How to Lock a Mac at A Certain time

Hello,
I would like to know how to lock my son's computer at a certain time. But when I go under parental controls, his account does not pop up. is it b/c he is the admin on the computer. Not sure on that one. Can someone please tell me how to lock out my son's account at a particular time?

First you must remove him as an admin. Change his account to 'standard.' Under System Preferences > Users & Groups > Uncheck 'Allow This user to Administer the Computer' for your Son's account under his name. He must be logged out from his account. If you run into problems, see this thread:

Just place the Elapsed Time VI inside the WHILE loop, and wire the 'Time Has Elapsed' output to the conditional terminal in the lower right corner (which should be set to 'stop if true' by default).

I think there's a way to coerce the Setup Assistant to run once again like on First Start, but requires erasing a couple of files in the drive. Don't know which ones right now.

Requirement: 1. After the creation of a certain task, a mail should go to the user... this I have done using the Java Mail API.
*2. After 2 days if the user don perform certain task, a reminder mail should be send to him EVERYDAY after the INITIAL 2 days.*
how to achieve this in the Java mail.. I have heard of Java mail Schedulers but I am not able to find it.. If you can give me some guide or some steps or some article for this I would be very very gratefu to you.

Nope. It means that if you want to schedule something, use code which does scheduling. Like Quartz for example. Bear in mind that the "something" in this case would involve sending an e-mail, but your scheduler wouldn't care about that.

Hello dfreer. In the Energy Saver Preference Pane in System Preferences, you can schedule your mini to wake from sleep or startup at a scheduled time every day by clicking the "Schedule" button.
To start a program at startup, just go into the Accounts Preference Pane, and click the "Login Items" to add an application to open automatically at startup. To do anything fancier with this application when it opens, you might need to look at Automator or Applescript.

How to change the scenegraph after a certain time

I want to have an object appear in one of my 3d-applets after 30 seconds. How do I do this? It would be easy in regular Java, but since the scenegraph is precompiled, it makes it more complicated in Java3D.

Actually, it wouldn't be that difficult at all.
Here's the trick: The scene graph as a whole isn't necessarily precompiled. You actually compile the BranchGroups in the scene. And branch groups can be added or removed at ANY time (provided the right capabilities are set).
You can add it later in several ways:
You could override behavior to count out 30 seconds (w/ or w/o using an Alpha), and add the item.
Or you could do it from your application, using a TimerTask, or implementing your own thread to do it.
Another idea, instead of actually adding the item 30 seconds in:
You could add the item right away and set the appearance invisible, and set it visible when 30 seconds is up.
Another thing you could do is modify the culling at 30 seconds in, so the 'visible' faces aren't rendered until 30 seconds have passed.
The bottom line is, you can always change the scene graph after it's been compiled and is live AS LONG AS you have set the appropriate capabilitiy bits.

If you cannot remember the passcode, you will need to restore your device using the computer with which you last synced it. This allows you to reset your passcode and resync the data from the device (or restore from a backup).
If you restore on a different computer that was never synced with the device, you will be able to unlock the device for use and remove the passcode, but your data will not be present.
You may have to force iPad into Recovery Mode

Anyway, what you can do is to block all websites in your router configuration. Set router password and nobody can change anything so you will have full control over content that should not be visible for your kids.

This happens in part with some Mac files that contain both a resource and a data fork. Windows doesn't know how to handle these files and breaks them apart. Also, Mac OS creates certain hidden files used by the Finder that also get transferred but are no longer hidden on Windows because Windows does not recognize the "." preceding a filename as the Unix shorthand for "invisible."
There are a number of free utilities you will find at VersionTracker or MacUpdate that can prevent this and the hidden files from appearing on the Windows drive.
Zipping files before transfer will also prevent the problem from occurring.

Yes I have used the clock/timer/ countdown - great to restrict how many minutes of iPad usage they get a day.
But as my child requires the iPad in school for class lessons the usage at school varies maybe 30 mins 1 day and a few hrs on other days
I want the ability to say set the iPad to not work between say 7pm and 7am, ( unless a passcode is entered) so my child isn't playing games on it in the middle of the night...

The Mac App Store was released with 10.6.6. It is most certainly on 10.6.8.
The Mac App Store has nothing to do with iTunes. You access the Mac App Store from the Apple menu:
You don't need an install disk inserted for the Recovery HD or Internet Recovery.
If your Mac came with Snow Leopard installed, then it likely doesn't have internet recovery. There were EFI firmware updates that enabled the recent ones to have internet recovery. So, if that is working (ie you get to the internet recovery screen holding down cmd-R), but your wireless password doesn't work, then disable you wireless password for the moment.
Or, is it your AppleID password that doesn't work?

I like to retrieve a file from the FTP server using Apache Commons Net libraries.
for example if the file size is 20MB. When the file is in the progress of copying or transferring from the FTP server i need to lock the local file which is in our local directory so that no other process will use the same local file which is in the process of copying otherwise partially copied files will be used by another process.
the file should be locked when it was in the progress of copying from the server. I have an automatic process which will access file objects at certain time and try to process the files.
I like to know the simplest and easiest way to lock and unlock a file object locally which is trying to copy a file from the FTP server which is of huge size.
And also i like to know how to lock and unlock a file in general?

And once you get Mac OS X 10.6 installed, update it to at least 10.6.6 which was the first version to include the Mac App Store (the latest version is 10.6.8). The DVD you get will almost certainly be only 10.6.3. You can update from 10.6.3 to 10.6.8 via Software Update, or you can download a standalone Combo updater (Support tab above, then Downloads).
