How to lock the screen in OS X?
im new to Mac. been a PC user for over 10 yrs. I'm just wondering if OSx has a similar shortcut to lock the screen just like what you can do with "windows key+L" in XP.
I know i can do that with screen savers or just log off. But i just wanna know if there is an easier way. Thanks.
What about using the Sleep command?
APPLE > SLEEP
It puts your display and computer asleep. You can set it so that it requires you to insert your password to awake the computer from sleep mode or even your screen saver for that matter.
Open System Preferences then go to Security section. Then find the check box that says "Require Password to wake this computer from Sleep". Check it.
There's also an application that locks it and sets an alarm off when it is touched, tracked pad moved, keyboard or taking out your power adapter. It's called iAlertU. iAlerU - Version Tracker. You use your remote.
Open it in your applications folder. It's then added to your menu bar. Hold down the Menu button for 2 seconds on your apple remote until you hear a car lock sound. Do the same to unlock it.

Launch “Keychain Access” located in /Applications/Utilities/
From the ‘Keychain Access’ menu, open Preferences
Select the checkbox next to “Show Status in Menu Bar”
Now that the lock menubar item is enabled, you’ll find a little lock icon in your menu bar. Once the menu item is enabled, just click on the lock icon and select “Lock Screen” to immediately lock your Mac OS X desktop.
Now a keyboard method.
If you have your security preferences set to require a password after sleep or screen saver begins (System Preferences > Security) then you can use the power button, then type "s" to turn sleep the system. It won't start the screen saver, but the display will go dark and you will need to enter your password to wake it up. I've found it takes a short time though to actually enter a password required sleep. If you wake right away, then no password is needed. -

I know how to choose to lock the screen in landscape position, though now in iOS7 it doesn't lock. I've tried restarting from various settings (with it to start up in unlocked position, in locked position, in upright position etc.)

How to Lock the Screen on a MacBook Pro with Retina
Hello everyone,
I would like to know how to do something to my computer so that the next time I want to get on, I need to enter in a password (I believe that it is called locking).
On a normal MacBook Pro, I believe that simply closing the screen works, but it doesn't work on my Retina display MacBook Pro.
Do you have any advice for me?

How can you lock the screen on iPhone in iOS 7 while talking on the phone?
I am struggling to figure out how to lock the screen of my iPhone 5 during a phone call. In iOS 6, I was able to push the top "on/off" button to lock the screen. In iOS 7, I am able to do this ONLY while using the speakerphone. If I push this button while talking on the phone regularly or using a headphone, it ends the call rather than locking the screen.
I have found that I am muting calls and disconnecting calls accidentially with my "face" while holding the phone b/c the screen is so sensitive. Does anyone know a way around this?I dont know of a way round this, but im having the same issue of puttig people on hold when putting the phone up to my ear.

How do you lock the screen on iphone 4 while on a call? I mute calls, activate face time and I have even called someone by accident during a call. I know there has to be a way to fix this. Please HELP!
It locks automatically when you hold it to your head.
If it fails to do this, then remove the case and see if it solves it.
If it does not, then do the basics - restart, reset, restore.
If that does not solve it, then make an appointment at the genius bar. -
how can i lock my screen on my iphone that was stolen tonite, i already suspended the service to the phone, but apparantly there is a way thru icloud to lock screen and when i log into icloud, i do not see the option to select devices. if so, that is where i can lock the screen, but i can not seem to get to that.

I will +1 Pixelan's products. They are great, simple, and have about the best support that I know of. When you explore, say Pixelan's SpiceMaster, dig deeply. Things appear rather mundane, on the surface, but there is so very much power lurking, just below the surface. - Charge the iPod for half an hour. Then reset the iPod:

In iSO 6 while talking to some one I could lock the screen in the middle of the call and I could continue the call, this helps me in may ways
1. I dont press the key board accidentally so that key presses wont be sent to IVR if Iam talking to a customer care or bank ect..
2. once I lock the screen while talking to the other person, accidentally I could avoid pressing End button, as it is touch screen and an accidental skin touch ends the call?
3. How could I reject the call if I dont want to receive the call using touch screen in iSO7 if possible?

Hi! I really couldn't find no way to lock the screen, except pressing the top button (what only cancel any touch you do in the screen).
That's an old discussion about (failure vs feature), but I wonder about if you are running, you can let the screen locked and still change or pause the song by pressing the buttons on the side of the iPod)

RitaPress and release the power button so the screen goes dark and your phone is in "sleep mode". It must also be connected to your wifi and an external power source such as your wall charger.

The iPhone has a proximity sensor located on the top of the phone near the earphone speaker that is supposed to automatically turn off the screen when it is close to your face while on a call, to prevent that very thing from happening. If your phone isn't doing that, try cleaning your screen. Also, if you put a screen protector on your phone made for a different model it may lack the cut-out that is supposed to keep it from blocking the sensor. Try removing your screen protector to see if that helps. If it does, get another screen protector.
