How to logon to oracle at home

I am running Windows 2000 and I downloaded a copy of Oracle but I can't seem to logon. What kind of username, password and host string should be used for SQL Plus? Thanks

Which version of Oracle are you talking about? I infere you are talking about the regular Oracle 10g.
At install time the Oracle Universal Installer asks you if you want to install a database, it is in the easy mode. If you selected not to install database (non default) you
How did you install? With the next, next, next ... strategy? At least you should have provided the name of the database. So a database should have been created. Check at the windows services, which Oracle services were created after the installation. Post the list you see, probably there is no need to create a database.
And certainly, consider the previously posted advice, Read the introductory 2 day DBA manual.

  • How to install oracle multiple homes in the same path

    Hi,
In my environment i have multiple oracle home.
    for ex:
    /u01/oracle/product/10.2.0.3/
    /u01/oracle/product/10.2.0.4/
    /u01/oracle/product/11.2.0.1/
The above are the oracle default home paths
now i want to install 11.2.0.2 in the same path with different folder under the same name version
may i know what are the pre-request parameter that i need to check in solaris 64 bit
And i want to install oracle software alone
while installing oracle software alone how about the file /var/opt/oracle/oratab and oracle oraInventory files
whether it replace the old version oracle file. Please clarify
    Thanks in advance.

    Hello,
By default, the Oracle Inventory directory is not installed under the Oracle Base directory.
This is because all Oracle software installations share a common Oracle Inventory,
...The Oracle Inventory should be shared by all Oracle installations on the Server. So its location is unique.
However, you may have several Oracle Base directories.
Oracle Base is the root directory of the Oracle installation and may change from one major release to another one. However, the same Oracle Base may be used for several installations:
    http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E11882_01/install.112/e17163/glossary.htm#g998168
Also, by default OUI suggest you the Oracle Base directory. In general you have something like "/u01/app/oracle". But you are free to set the Oracle Base directory you prefer.
    Hope this help.

  • How to install 2 oracle homes on singl windows host

    Hi Experts,
I am planning to install two sap R/3 4.7 ext200 SR1 instances on windows 2003. I already installed DEV instance & planning for QAS.
I am confused about how to install two ORACLE softwares on single windows host.
I search on internet there for windows they are pointing to the registry value
    \HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
    Software\Oracle\inst_loc.
I am not able to understand what I have to do with this ?
Can you please help me to understand & execute this.
    Thanks,
    Sachin

    Sachin,
Go throuth this link to understand more about Oracle Inventory and Oracle Homes software update.
    http://cs.ifmo.ru/~ad/Documentation/oracle-10g-lib-doc/em.101/b12140/3_oui_oracle_homes.htm#i1005634
The current entry is picked from the PATH vairable of the system and user that you have logged on. This is because you have already done 1 Oracle Installation on the host.
Keep in mind that you choose the correct oracle home while installing and in future updating Oracle software (patchset, Interim Pactches...)
You can give a seperate path for Oracle Inventory. Just go thru to the existing folder of OraInventory in Program files you will understand it better.
It is used to install and update the Oracle software in the oracle home that you will choose in your next step.
    All the Best,
    Nilesh

  • How to determine Oracle 10g Home programatically?

With the Oracle 9i client, I was able to figure out (in a program or install script) where the Oracle 9i home folder was by looking at the registry key /HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/Software/Oracle/Oracle_Home. However, I don't see anything like this for the Oracle 10g client. I see a branch entitled KEY_OraClient10g_home but I don't think that is consistant across all Oracle 10g client installs (i.e. I think I entered the name OraClient10g_home when I installed the client).
So... is there a way (programatically) to determine what the 10g home folder is? Thanks.
    Tom

I just checked a fresh install of 10gR2, and a hybrid we have that is running 9iR2 with a 10g client in place. If you are looking for 10g home information, you will want to enumerate keynames under the HKLM/Software/Oracle key. You are looking for keys that begin with KEY_. These are likely Oracle homes.
While it is true that you can name your Oracle home what you want to, Oracle seems to prefix KEY_ to its home names the way 9i would create keys named HOMEX to describe the homes. Underneath the KEY_ key you will find the values ORACLE_HOME, ORACLE_HOME_KEY, and ORACLE_HOME_NAME that will give you all the information about the home that you might need.
While this means you have to write a loop to check for potential homes and a test to check for the value name you want to use, it should probably work. Worst case scenario is that you write a loop to iterate through the child keys under HKLM/Software/Oracle and check to see whether each key has the value ORACLE_HOME. Oracle names that value and sets its value, so you should always find it.

  • How do I install Oracle Service Bus?

Much thanks to anyone who can help! I have been a developer for 20 years and I have never had so much trouble with run a setup program.
I am trying to install Oracle Service Bus 11g on a Windows 7 machine. I have successfully installed WebLogic 10.3. The Oracle Service Bus installation program wants me to enter the paths for Oracle Middleware Home, Oracle Home Directory, Weblogic Server Location and OEPE Location. No matter what I enter for these I am told they are incorrect. For example:
Specified Weblogic home location is not a valid location.
Let's concentrate on just the Weblogic home location. I have tried every directory and sub-directory where Weblogic has been installed. No matter what path I enter, I get the error message above.
Setup defaults this path location to C:\bea_default\wlserver_10.3 so I tried copying everything to this path. Still I am told the location is not a valid location. How does anyone ever get this to work? What am I doing wrong?

    Hi.
I have exactly the same problem than 786801. In the "Specify Installation Location" screen of the Oracle Service Bus installation process, after providing the correct paths, the message "INST-07248: Specified Weblogic home location is not a valid location" appears.
WebLogic Server 10.3.3 is installed in /opt/oracle/middleware
The folder wlserver_10.3 exists under that path, so I'm entering /opt/oracle/middleware/wlserver_10.3 as WebLogic Server Location.
In addition to the WebLogic Server, I have installed SOA Suite 11g without problems. The database schemas for that products have been created with the Repository Creation Utility.
I don't know what to do. Any help would be so much appreciated.
Here are some lines of the installation log, where the problem appears:

  • How to select active Oracle ODBC Driver programmatically?

    Hi,
My application creates ODBC DSN to connect with Oracle 10g database server. I need to find out Oracle Driver installed on the system programmatically. I am trying to read KEY_<PRODUCT NUMBER> registry key and eventually searching ORACLE_HOME value. This helps me in searching Oracle Driver in ODBCINST.INI registry key. (Oracle in OraDb10g_home1)
If multiple Oracle clients are installed on the same system, multiple KEY_<PRODUCT NUMBER> registry keys and oracle drivers would be available. I am not sure which and how to select the current active oracle driver.
    Oracle in OraDb10g_home1
    Oracle in OraDb10g_home2
Can anybody help me out? Can I use inventory file (inventory.xml) to determince current active home directory? Reading PATH environment variable to identity active home directory would be tedious.

I want to automatically start the oracle database at the time linux server and shutdown the database on shutdown linux server.

    Hi,
    I can share my scripts:
    1) /home/oracle/start_oracle.sh
#Script should be ran as Oracle user
    cd /tmp
    export ORACLE_SID=orcl
    export ORACLE_HOME=/oracle/ora9i
    lsnrctl start
    sqlplus -S /nolog <<ENDSQL
    connect / as sysdba
    startup
    exit

    emctl start dbconsole
    isqlplusctl start
NOTE: emctl and isqlplus are optional
    2) /home/oracle/stop_oracle.sh
#Script should be ran as Oracle user
    cd /tmp

  • How to install two oracle database on one system

i want to install two oracle databases on single system how it is possible
how i can manager oracle home and is this possible to install two different version of oracle in single home or single system forexample oracle 9 and oracle 8 .
    A.R

    Hi,
yes, u can have more databases on a single machine and they can be of different versions.
You have to use and initialize the correct ORACLE_HOME to create the DB of the version U use.
For ex, u have 2 homes:
    C:\Oracle\Ora817 8i home and C:\Oracle\ora920 9i home
Normally, using OFA, imagine that You want create 2 db, TEST_8I for 8i home and TEST_9I for the 9i home, You shold have:
    C:\Oracle\Admin\TEST_8I\<<OFA DIRS>> and C:\Oracle\Oradata\TEST_8I for 8i DB adn C:\Oracle\Admin\TEST_9I\<<OFA DIRS>> and C:\Oracle\Oradata\TEST_9I for the 9i version.
It is important, when You create the DB, that u use the executables of C:\Oracle\Ora817\bin to create 8i db and C:\Oracle\Ora920\bin for the 9i one.
Then U can use the 9i listener to manage both instances
    Hope this helps

  • How to check the Oracle Release?

    Hi,
How to check the release version in Oracle AS ?
    And
How to find what oracle AS release has happened in year (example 2005)?
    Best Regards

There are a couple of ways I use to find the version:
    1. Open the Oracle Universal Installer on the machine where the OAS is installed, click on Installed Products. That should display the product and the version number.
    2. Set the oracle environment variables, then run the command below
    +$ORACLE_HOME/jdk/jre/bin/java -jar $ORACLE_HOME/j2ee/home/oc4j.jar -version+
This should display the version of the OC4J which generally is the version of the OAS (unless you have applied any one-off patches)
Have no idea about the second part of your question. Sorry.
