How to maintiain windows in workspaces (Ubuntu) after program / computer restart

This is another variation of a question I asked over at Ask Ubuntu, though couldn't get an answer:
http://askubuntu.com/questions/580351/maintaining-windows-in-workspace-after-program-restart
I ask the same question here, though also this one: could this be a feature some time in the future?
Thanks for any advice!

    Hi,
According to your description, in my opinion, it seems like not bcd file problem. It's PC itself problem, maybe a hardware problem, also can be system componments corrupt.
Can this PC startup successfully if you choose reboot or shutdown PC? Or this problem just occures after resume system from hibernate?
For Windows boot process knowledge, you can refer to the contents of the link below for more details:

For your problem, in my opinion, it would be better to use System installation to fix this system file for test.

  • How do I download my subscriptions again after my computer was wuped out?

How do I download my subscriptions again after my computer was wuped out?

Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store - http://support.apple.com/kb/ht2519 - enabled with iTunes 10.3 and newer; not available in all countries; only apps, books (not audiobooks), music, and t.v. shows (not movies).
If you're not in a place with iCloud yet, either wait until it is available (maybe), or use your backup drive (which you should always have and iTunes Store notes you should maintain since a second download, until recently, was not available anywhere and still isn't for some media).

How do I get my Purchases back after my computer got wiped, Can I re-download them for free? and how?

You buy one and only one download of music/vids/tv shows/movies.  It is your responsibility to move/copy/backup your purchases.
It has always been very basic to always maintain a backup copy of your computer for just such an occasion.
Use your backup copy to put everything back.
If for some reason you have failed to maintain a backup ( not good), then you can transfer itunes purchases from an ipod:  File>Transfer Purchases

Beware!  When you initialize your boot disk be sure that you specify "Journaled" and not "Case-sensitive, Journaled". Previous OSX installers would check this and give an error message. Mavericks does NOT! If you install using "Case-sensitive" many apps will not work.

  • How to make Windows Update work properly after a fresh XP Home Installation

    1. Set up Boot Camp 60 gig partition.
    2. Install full copy of Windows XP SP2 on the Boot Camp partition.
    3. Using the OSX Disk, Install the Boot Camp 2.0 Drivers for Windows.
    4. Download the Boot Camp 2.1 Update from apple.com and install it.
    5. In Windows, run the Apple Software Update.
    6. In your Windows systray, you probably have notice of "automatic software updates". Install them from the systray notification and they will install correctly.
    7. Now manually visit Windows Update. You can view all available updates but if you try to actually install any updates this way you will hang immediately at the "Downloading" status. No actual download even starts.
This problem will persist across reboots, etc. It will occur if you try to upgrade from Windows Update to Microsoft Update, and even if you then uninstall Microsoft Update and go back to Windows Update.
The only action that corrects this problem is to perform the following steps:
    1. In Windows, choose Start > Run and enter "msconfig".
    2. In the MS Configuration utility, choose to restart Windows in diagnostic mode. (You must perform the following step in diagnostic mode or some of the files you need to delete will be locked by some running service or whatnot.)
    3. After Windows comes up in diagnostic mode, open the C:\Windows\Software Distribution. Delete everything inside that folder (but not the folder itself).
    4. Run msconfig again and select to restart Windows in normal mode again.
    5. When Windows comes up in normal mode, it recreates the entire default contents that you just deleted in the previous step, and Windows Update will now work properly.

I kept running into this same problem with Windows Update every single time I restarted into Boot Camp from the OSX side of things. (System Preferences > Startup Disk > select Untitled > Restart.)
I could clear the problem every time by rebooting (while in Boot Camp) into Diagnostic mode, clearing the contents of the C:\Windows\Software Distribution folder, and then restarting back into Normal mode.
On a hunch, one time I did not bother with the above steps, but just restarted Windows (Start > Shutdown > Restart). Whaddya know? That worked to clear the problem with Windows Update too!
So at this point I think the root cause of the problem is something about Boot Camp itself, particularly when you first switch from OSX over to your Boot Camp partition. It is 100% repeatable that Windows Update will run and find your various uninstalled updates, but if you try to actually download any of them, the process will hang right at the start of "Downloading".
Simply shutting down and restarting Windows while already in Boot Camp solves this problem completely.
It's also interesting to note that if you use VMWare Fusion to run a VM of your Boot Camp partition you do not have this problem at all. Windows Update will run perfectly each and every time you run your Boot Camp version of Windows under VMWare Fusion. You only need to do this restarting of Windows if you are actually in Boot Camp.

  • Windows Time source resets after service/server restart

We have two completely separate domains.  Our main domain has 4 DCs: the PDCe is looking to an outside source for its time source and the other 3 DCs are looking to the PDCe for their time source.  The second domain, our DMZ, is setup the exact
same way.  The PDCe is looking to an outside source for time and the other 3 DCs are looking to the PDCe for their time.  If the Windows Time service is restarted or the server is restarted (during patching, for example), the time source changes
from the outside address to "Local CMOS Clock".  From there, everything else will get thrown off.  And now that I think of it, they might also revert to "Local CMOS Clock" after the service is restarted.
I configured the PDCe using the following command, which completes successfully:
    w32tm /config /manualpeerlist:0.pool.ntp.org /syncfromflags:manual /reliable:yes /update
I can then run w32tm /query /status and confirm the setting is correct, but if I do the recommended "net stop..." and "net start..." commands, it will revert to "Local
CMOS Clock".  If I leave it alone and the server reboots, it will again revert.  This problem does not exist in our main domain.  I have the appropriate rights and I don't see anything in the event logs that would indicate what the problem
    is.  Thoughts?
    Chris

so the first thing is that only your PDCe should be going out to the internet (or another reliable NTP source) to get the time and that's done with:
    w32tm /config /manualpeerlist:0.pool.ntp.org /syncfromflags:manual /reliable:yes /update
all your other DCs then go to the PDCe to get their time and we do that with:
    w32tm /config /syncfromflags:domhier /update
so when you say you tested it on "test DC", you need to ensure the right settings are being pushed relevant to that DC's role and I'm not really certain about this test environment you have here
reading up on this, it all keeps going back to VMs doing time sync with the host, GPOs, scheduled tasks, or startup scripts
you can check the Systems event logs though, there will be messages in there stating why it reverted back to local cmos. it might do it if it can't reach the time source you specified and that part is normal but you need to check the logs first. even a successful
time sync message will help eliminate some of the causes
I think unregistering/registering the service starting with your PDCe should make it stick, as long as it can actually communicate with "0.pool.ntp.org".  to verify this and to make sure UDP port 123 is open, run "w32tm /stripchart /computer:0.pool.ntp.org"
    - if you get a time chart then communication is fine but if you get something else then you may have problems hitting that source and it's reverting back to cmos.

  • How can I get my photos back, after my computer crashed and now I can only preview them?

Before my computer crashed I had saved my photos on my WD My passport but I think it was only saved like a preview. Once my computer crashed I brought my pictures back to the HD Imac Computer but now I can see them but I can't save, print or export them. Is it possible for me to fix this and if so how?
    I appreciate ALL help.
    Thank you:)
Here is an example of some:

I had saved my photos on my WD My passport but I think it was only saved like a preview.
We need to know more, to be able to understand what you have done.
How did you save your images to the external drive? Did you copy your Aperture library there?
Is your Aperture library referenced or managed - did you store the original image files outside the Aperture library or are they included in your Aperture library?  If you have referenced images, did you back them up too?
The error message you are seeing, shows that Aperture cannot find the original image file. That is indicated by the yellow warning badge with the arrow.
If your Aperture library is referenced, you need to restore your backed up original image files as well from their backup, and then use the the command "File > Locate Referenced Files" to reconnect the image versions with the missing original files.  Do you have a backup of the originals? If you cannot restore your referenced originals, you can turn your previews into new originals; post back, if you need help with that.
If your Aperture library is managed, and all your originals are included inside your Aperture library, try if the Aperture Library First Aid Tools can fix this:
Repairing and Rebuilding Your Aperture Library: Aperture 3 User Manual
Check if the "Masters" folder inside your Aperture Library contains any image files: Crtl-click the Aperture library and use "Show Package Contents". Are the missing original image files inside?

  • Windows Can't access after program bugs out.

Anytime I run a program and the program bugs out on me it will then start coming up with the "windows cannot access" error. It only happens if the program bugs out. At that point i'll uninstall the program and reinstall it but it still will catch
it as a windows cannot access. I'm starting to think it's a virus but i'm not sure.  All i know is that once this happens, no matter what i do, the program becomes useless and unable to be used at all.

    Hi,
For this problem, would you please provide the screenshot for this phenomenon?
To find the reason of this problem, it would be better to use Process Monitor to caputer the process of open the program. When this problem occures, stop monitor, then find the access deny message in Process Monitor. If there is any updates, please let us
    know.

  • How to enable Windows 7 ISO file for iMac Computer

    ** extremely urgent
    Dear Sir or Madam:
Due to my misunderstanding,an Apple Customer has purchased Windows 7 ISO file for his iMac Computer.
But, the fact is that Apple only allows this on computers that support booting from an USB drive (aka they don't have optical drive).
Though, whether i can adopt an non-recommendation folk prescription, i.e."http://www.codez4mac.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=212&t=61921"?
Are there any risk there ?
    Please correct me ASAP.
    Thank you !

Meanwhile, are there any risks there?
I doubt any "risk", only very likely thing is that OSX updates will likely rewrite the supported Macs file & if you had need to install Win7 again from ISO, then you'd need to edit that file again.
I think there was mention of this by Mike Breeden today, but the site is not available for the first time in years right now...

Could Apple Developers keep an eye on this?
