How to make a 2nd,  new Photo Library the default on open

well, we've now reached 15,000 picts on my iPhoto and you know what that means.
I read MISSING MANUAL (pogue) and now how, with option-boot up, to create a new photo library. Very cool.
HOWEVER: I wish this new library to be the default library when I open up iPHoto 5.
How do do?
JON

JON,
iPhoto opens the most recently used library by default. So all you have to do is create the new library. When you Quit iPhoto, it will be set to open that library the next time you launch. If you want to open a different library, you will have to Option-Launch to select it.
Also, you might like to check out iPhoto Library Manager. It facilitates switching among iPhoto libraries. Plus, it allows you to transfer rolls and albums between libraries while preserving the keywords, ratings, titles, and other database information.
Regards.

How to make more albums in photo library?

If you do not have iOS 5, you have to use subfolders in your one photo syncing folder. You can have one level of folders in the syncing folder and each folder is an album.
With iOS 5 you can create albums in the Photo app.

  • How can I (automatically) import new photos of the photostream on my local disc (Mac)? Don't want to use new icloud service. Simply import.

    New Photo app on Mac.
How can I (automatically) import new photos of the photo stream on my local disc (Mac)? Don't want to use new icloud service. Simply import.
With iPhoto every new photo was automatically imported and saved on my local disk (with "full resolution" that's what I only need). In the new photo app I have still my photo stream and when I move a photo (drag and drop from the photo stream) to a new album it indicates a (plus). My understanding is that the photo is now copied to my local disk. But when I deleted the photo in the photo stream it was also deleted in the album !?
If that is the case I can use the photo stream only until I reach the max of 1.000 photos, then I have to delete photos and I will have no copy left.
How can I "physically" copy a photo of the photo stream to my local disk? I just want to "transfer" all pictures taken with Ipads, Iphones to my central storage on the Mac. Please don't propose to connect it via iTunes (cable) to the Mac.
    Any other suggestions?
    thx

The amazing device cannot do it because no amazing developer has written an app for it.  There is some interest, others have asked, but i have a hunch that the market is fairly limited, and no developer has jumped at the chance just yet.
Any sort of tethered approach means try to feed the material to the pad thru the cck.  Which means the app would have to use the allowed/existing cck pathway in a manner that does not violate the sandbox rules.  That may be the problem.

  • How can I return my new tab to the default blank page?

My brother did something which made the new tab page a Yahoo search page. I'd much rather it be the blank page, selecting the address bar. I downloaded the newtabURL add-on and selected the option blank page, highlighting the URL, along with some other stuff and saved it. When I restarted though, Yahoo was still my default new tab option.
I have no idea where this is coming from, I've checked my add-on list, control panel, and extensions list and cannot find anywhere he set Yahoo to do this.
Thanks in advance for your help, and please state some of the obvious solutions I might have overlooked.

Start Firefox in <u>[[Safe Mode]]</u> to check if one of the extensions or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox (Tools) > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).
*Don't make any changes on the Safe mode start window.

  • How to make your folder list appear at the top when opening a finder window

Sorry if this has been asked before but couldn't find it in the threads... About the only thing I miss from Windows, is the way file mgr displays list in folders, i.e. starting with folders, then listing the files.
Any way we can do this in Leopard?? The closest I get is by displaying content in list, then sort by type, but obviously my Adobe documents are listed before my folders... I'd really love to get my folders on top.
    Thanks for the help!
    Jean-Francois.

FYI, I found this trick posted at another board:
Sorting by kind with folders at the top can be done in Leopard with a little hacking:
    OBLIGATORY WARNING:
If you're not comfortable with this, don't do it!
With that out of the way:
    - navigate to: /System/Library/CoreServices/
    - right-click Finder.app and select Show package contents...
    - navigate to: Contents>Resources>English.lproj
    - backup InfoPlist.strings
    - open the original InfoPlist.strings in a text editor
    - locate the line that says:
    Code:
    "Folder" = "Folder";
    - add a space at the start of the second "Folder":
    Code:
    "Folder" = " Folder";
    - save the file
    - reboot or relaunch Finder
The space in front of "Folder" forces folders to the top of the list when sorting alphabetically by kind.

  • How do I set Adobe Reader 9 as the default to open emailed Adobe pdfs?

I have Reader 9, and I used to have Adobe Pro XI but I let the subscription lapse. Now I can't open any Adobe pdfs that are emailed to me and all I see is a messge saying that I need to renew my subscription. Help!

Changing the default application for the OS should also change the file type association for PDF files.
    For Windows XP
Start-> Control Panel-> Folder Options-> tab File Types
For Windows Vista and Windows 7
Start-> Default Programs-> Associate a file type or protocol with a program
    For Windows 8
Start-> type: “Default Programs”-> Associate a file type or protocol with a program
    For MAC
Right Click (Ctrl click) on any PDF file -> Get Info -> Change open with.

  • How do I populate a new iPhoto library from my default library?

How do I efficiently move large numbers of photos between 2 iPhoto libraries?  I want one for personal use and one for business.  Right now everything is in one iPhoto library.  I was able to create a second, business related library, but couldn't figure out how to move large numbers of photos from the default library into the new (presently empty) library.  I tried import and export but those functions weren't available.

    Easy way:
Use  iPhoto Library Manager to move photos, files, all versions and metadata between libraries. The Free version will move approx 20 at a time. Purchase ($20) will remove any restrictions.
    Alternative:
Export the Photos from one Library (File -> Export) to folders in the Finder, then import them to the other library. You won't get versions or Faces metadata this way.
Or, do you need a second library? You can easily distinguish Work and Personal files in a Library with a simple keyword.

  • My iphone storage is full due to my large photo library. As I want to go on taking more photos, if I back up my phone to icloud, can I then delete all my photos from my iphone to make room for new photos?

My iphone storage is full due to my large photo library. As I want to go on taking more photos, if I back up my phone to icloud, can I then delete all my photos from my iphone to make room for new photos? Or will the next time I back up lose all those previously backed up as it is a 'new' set of data?
I just want to find the easiest and safest way of not losing all my photos while being able to take more than my iPhones storage worth as it is already full - can someone help me please? I thought icloud was the solution to not uploading my photos to the mac but I'm not sure if the way it's going is working and don't want to delete photos or lose my phone and then find out what I'm doing isn't actually storing my photos permanently. Thanks

    Hey EmilyEliza,
As you are clearly aware, it is important for you to have backups of your important data, including all of these photos you are currently keeping on your iPhone. While it is possible to use iTunes or iCloud to do backups of your iPhone, the problem becomes how to access those backups if you have deleted the photos from your iPhone. Once you have done the backup and then removed the photos from the iPhone, the only way to access the photos is by restoring the backups to the phone. See this article for information about backups made from the iPhone -
Back up and restore your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch using iCloud or iTunes - Apple Support
If you want to easily access the photos once they are off of the iPhone, another approach to this would be to import your photos from the iPhone into an application on your Mac, such as iPhoto. To learn how to do this, use the steps in this article -
Import photos and videos from your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch to your Mac or Windows PC - Apple Support
Once those photos are on your computer, it is still important to back up those photos to somewhere else, so you can be sure of their safety before removing them from the iPhone. Your Mac’s Time Machine application is one method of doing this -
Mac Basics: Time Machine backs up your Mac - Apple Support
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.
    Happy computing,

  • I am having macbook air recently my iphotos did not open and was showing report apple and reopen but i came to know that by pressing alt and iphotos i open an new photo library and stored the pics but now how can i get the pics which i had in the earlier

i am having macbook air recently my iphotos did not open and was showing report apple and reopen but i came to know that by pressing alt and iphotos i open an new photo library and stored the pics but now how can i get the pics which i had in the earlier photo please help me to recover my photos

    Well I'll guess you're using iPhoto 11:
    Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Repair Database. If that doesn't help, then try again, this time using Rebuild Database.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. (In early versions of Library Manager it's the File -> Rebuild command. In later versions it's under the Library menu.)
This will create an entirely new library. It will then copy (or try to) your photos and all the associated metadata and versions to this new Library, and arrange it as close as it can to what you had in the damaged Library. It does this based on information it finds in the iPhoto sharing mechanism - but that means that things not shared won't be there, so no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your events, albums and keywords, faces and places back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.

  • How do I upload folders to new Photo Library?

i have 13,000 pictures in 600 folders on my PC and I want to convert them all to the new photo library in iCloud.  The Icloud browser app won't allow me to select folders to upload.  I have to open each folder and upload individual photos.  Then I will have to create albums and put all the photso in the albums?  This will take forever.

I'm having the same problem as Keithj999.
Your solution is not viable, as it only pertains to Mac computers, and this is the PC thread.
The problem: We have a PC computer.  We have a lot of photos on the computer which need to be uploaded into the iCloud library.  The only way this seems to be able to be done is via the iCloud website.  When going through the iCloud website to upload into the iCloud Library (NOT photostream, as my understanding is everything there deletes after 30 days..) from a PC computer, you can only select one photo at a time to be uploaded.  Having thousands of photos, this clearly is not a good solution to the problem..
The desired outcome to the problem: To get thousands of photos from a PC computer into the iCloud Library in an efficient manner.
The solution for the desired outcome:  ???
I've been looking for a few hours now on how this might be achievable, and I have yet to find a solution.

  • How to make changes to actual photo files?

I have searched and still can't find the answer. I am trying to create my main iPhoto library so that when I edit or delete or move a file within the iPhoto application, it edits, deletes or moves the original file in the Pictures folder. I have copied over all my photo folders into the Pictures folder on the hard drive, then I have started iPhoto and am prompted to create a new library since none exists by importing my pictures folders with the import option set to copy. This did not allow me to make changes to the originals by editing them in iPhoto. So I deleted the library and started again with import option set at not to copy. Made no differenece. What am I missing? How do I create a new iPhoto library so that any changes I make to my photos in iPhoto happen to the originals also?

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. You're not missing anything. You can't do what you want to do. iPhoto follows the prime directive of good digital asset management and keeps the original file untouched as a digital negative. Any editing creates a modified version which is kept in the Modified folder. This way you can always go back to the original version to start a different edit/crop, etc. If you cropped an image to 4x6 to print and then later wanted an 8x10, you'd have to further crop the image, this time the 4x6 image to get the correct proportions and that would severely reduce the resolution and quality of the image.
If you want to only work on the original files then you'll need a different application, perhaps an image browser and a 3rd party editor.
    Do you Twango?
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've written an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 08 libraries. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

  • IPhoto Help tips don't help create new Photo Library

I have 35 photos of folks associated with the magazine I edit. I created a separate album for them in the present Photo Library, but I would like to disconnect them from there and keep them in a totally distinct Editorial Photo Library. The Help tips for iPhoto allow for this action, but in my attempts to make it happen, iPhoto would not launch; it continues to launch only in the original way, with the lone Library and the usual albums with all their photos.
Not wishing to risk loss of hundreds of photos, I abandoned my attempt. All I really want to accomplish is to house the Editorial photos in a completely different place. This collection will expand as the magazine takes on new contributing authors, but I don't want any of these photos intermixed with my personal albums. Part of the reason for this is that I wish to preserve my method of captioning personal photos with numerical prefixes. This is the only sure way I have found to have photos sort strictly chronologically; no alpha method works worth a fig. I would still prefer that the default launch would bring up my personal Photo Library; but it would sure be nice to be able to toggle to the only other photo library that I intend ever to use.

I'm not sure which tip you're following. When you change the name of the "current" iPhoto library, the next restart cannot open in the renamed library on its own. Your choices are to create a new library, or locate an existing one. If you follow the steps in the iPhoto Help topic "Creating a new photo library", I don't see how you can go wrong.
To bring up a library other than the current photo library, you would follow the instruction in the iPhoto Help topic "Switching between photo libraries". If you want to keep your several photo libraries all together in the Pictures folder, you just need different names for each of the iPhoto Library folders.
Export the 35 photos (simply drag them from the iPhoto window) to a temporary folder on the desktop, then restart iPhoto with the new library and import the contents of the temporary folder. You can delete the photos from the initial iPhoto collection any time after you've successfully exported them.

  • How do I create a new calendar for the current year, using last years calendar's birthday's/photos and comments from the lower pages?

Each year for the past 5 years I make a family calendar and send copies to all he family members around the globe.  I hate that I have to recreate all the birthdays and special occasions from scratch, and re-drag all the photos onto these dates, in the lower half of the page of each month on the new calendar.  How can I create a new calendar for the current year and port all of these photos/comments into the new calendar from last years calendar, to save having to redo all this work!!  I am not talking about the upper half page of the photos only...I am referring to the calendar page of each month.
    Thanks in advance.

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. Open iWeb so you see your original site in the left hand pane. Use the File->New Site menu option to create a new site. Give it the name you want.
Now select a page in your original site and type Command+D. That will duplicate the page. Drag the duplicate page down to the new site and rename it as needed. Do that for the other pages you need in the original site.

  • I have 2 photo albums on my iPhone that i want to delete. One is called "Photo Library" the other is called "iPhonePics". I cannot delete any of the photos in either album. How do I delete the photos and/or the albums?

I have 2 photo albums on my iPhone that i want to delete. One is called "Photo Library" the other is called "iPhonePics". I cannot delete any of the photos in either album. How do I delete the photos and/or the albums?

You can uncheck multiple songs by selecting all the songs you want to uncheck, then right-click and choose "uncheck selection".  Also, make sure that you have checked "Sync only checked songs and videos" on the Summary tab of your iTunes sync settings or the sync process will ignore your selections.
You can remove all the photos from your camera roll using Preview on your Mac.  Connect your phone to your Mac, open Preview, go to File>Import from iPhone.  When your photos appear in Preview, select the photos you want to delete, then click on the icon at the bottom showing the red circle with the diagonal line through it (see image below), then click Delete.
To remove photos from the Photo Stream album on your phone you'll have to either reset Photo Stream (deleting all the photos from iCloud) or turn off Photo Stream on your phone.

  • After creating a new photo library....

Just got my MacBook last week, everything was fine until I tried to learn more.
I have created a new iphoto library, creating some additional login names, do some settings to expose/spaces....
Now I have faced some problems:
    1. RAW file could no longer be edited
    2. RAW file opened appears very blur
    3. RAW file opened cannot be seen after flipping forward and backward to other phots (appear as white screen in window format, appears as black screen in full screen mode)
I am wondering whether could this be related to some settings that I have set unintentionally?
    Additional questions:
    - how do we remove/delete additional iphoto library?
    - how to move photos from 1 library to another?
    please help....

    TD
I was exploring and trying to create a new library, I first drag the original 'photo library' to 'document' folder in the Hard Disk and rename it, then create a new photo library and drag back my 1st library into iphoto. when restarting iphoto, hold down the option key and select to open in the 1st library (the one renamed)
other than that didnt do any thing else.
is there any mistake in my above steps?
When you mentioned 'elements', do you mean the photo inside?
    Called up applecare, was guided:
    1. drag and put all the very first photos imported (inside 'Data' folder) into Desktop
    2. thrash all the iphoto library
    3. go library>preferences and trash com.apple.iPhoto.plist
    4. create back iphoto library and drag back all the photos from the Desktop
the major problem here is that all photos now becoming JPG (guess all RAW converted to JPG in the Data folder) and all <50KB.
now I have loss the RAW file and dont think the quality of JPG will be good when developed...
I still yet to try again RAW file editing in the new library created. will update after I got home later.
