How to make a collage of photos?

I would like to be able to make a collage of about 5 photos. Can this be done in iPhoto (5.0.4) or is there a freeware program that will do this?
If so, once the collage is made, can it be used in iPhoto similar to a single image?
Thanks

Hi Herschel,
You will need a graphics program such as PhotoShop Elements.

I am pretty sure you can do it with Appleworks or Pages or something similar also. You would send the document to Print and save as a pdf, then send the PDF to iPhoto.

Do you have Pages?  It's an excellent app to make collages. You can create a canvas with Pages, drag the photos you want from iPhoto into the open Pages window, resize and position the photos as needed.
I belive the demo version of OmniGraffle - The Omni Group will let you arrange up to 10 objects on a page.  I use it to create this 96 photo collage poster:
But Pages would be easier to use if you have it.

If you do not have iOS 5, you have to use subfolders in your one photo syncing folder. You can have one level of folders in the syncing folder and each folder is an album.
With iOS 5 you can create albums in the Photo app.

  • Z10 - How to make the built in Photo app see photos on the SD Ram

    Hi,
Was using my Z10 for recording video when it reported memory problems.. No problem. I baught it a 64 GIG SD ram to address any memory problems.. Perfect, all photos and videos now go to the SD ram.. BUT.....
Neither the photos nor the videos appear in the lists of content in either the built in Photo application nor the Videos application. To see them I have to go to File Manager and view files stored on the SD ram were they have been recorded as expected and can be seen. Often when you go to see a video or picture in the File Manager to view a photo or video, no thumbnail of the photo is present! instead you get a generic icon that the file is a photo and you have to open it to see what photo or video it is. It isn't until some time after the thumbnails are properly updated. It also puts both photos and videos in the Camera folder on the SD ram instead of the associated folders on the SD.
I was at the telus store while 2 telus reps struggling to find any way to get the photo app or the video app to display the SD ram content. They commented that Blackberry indicates it supports up to 32gig in SD ram but the fact that it is recording and retrieving properly indicates 64 gigs works too at least for this purpose.
The Question: How does one tell the Photo and Video app to display camera data on the SD ram?
    Thanks,
    The Manx

I've had issues with the 64gb cards also, one worked and another did exactly as you described.
Some users have had to format the 64gb card to FAT32 to make it work.

  • How to make iPhoto the default photo program

I belong to a photo sharing site where I upload photos. When I click "browse" at the site, iPhoto automatically opens and I can select and upload my photo. A friend with a new Mac does the same thing - clicks "browse," but iPhoto doesn't open.  I think she needs to somehow make iPhoto her default, but I can't figure out how to do that.

Do you mean to upload to the site?
There are many, many ways to access your files in iPhoto:   You can use any Open / Attach / Browse dialogue. On the left there's a Media heading, your pics can be accessed there. Command-Click for selecting multiple pics.
(Note the above illustration is not a Finder Window. It's the dialogue you get when you go File -> Open)
You can access the Library from the New Message Window in Mail:
There's a similar option in Outlook and many, many other apps.  If you use Apple's Mail, Entourage, AOL or Eudora you can email from within iPhoto.
If you use a Cocoa-based Browser such as Safari, you can drag the pics from the iPhoto Window to the Attach window in the browser.
If you want to access the files with iPhoto not running:
For users of 10.6 and later:  You can download a free Services component from MacOSXAutomation  which will give you access to the iPhoto Library from your Services Menu.
Using the Services Preference Pane you can even create a keyboard shortcut for it.
For Users of 10.4 and 10.5 Create a Media Browser using Automator (takes about 10 seconds) or use this free utility Karelia iMedia Browser
    Other options include:
Drag and Drop: Drag a photo from the iPhoto Window to the desktop, there iPhoto will make a full-sized copy of the pic.
File -> Export: Select the files in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Export. The dialogue will give you various options, including altering the format, naming the files and changing the size. Again, producing a copy.
Show File:  a. On iPhoto 09 and earlier:  Right- (or Control-) Click on a pic and in the resulting dialogue choose 'Show File'. A Finder window will pop open with the file already selected.    3.b.
b: On iPhoto 11 and later: Select one of the affected photos in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Reveal in Finder -> Original. A Finder window will pop open with the file already selected.

  • How to make changes to actual photo files?

I have searched and still can't find the answer. I am trying to create my main iPhoto library so that when I edit or delete or move a file within the iPhoto application, it edits, deletes or moves the original file in the Pictures folder. I have copied over all my photo folders into the Pictures folder on the hard drive, then I have started iPhoto and am prompted to create a new library since none exists by importing my pictures folders with the import option set to copy. This did not allow me to make changes to the originals by editing them in iPhoto. So I deleted the library and started again with import option set at not to copy. Made no differenece. What am I missing? How do I create a new iPhoto library so that any changes I make to my photos in iPhoto happen to the originals also?

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. You're not missing anything. You can't do what you want to do. iPhoto follows the prime directive of good digital asset management and keeps the original file untouched as a digital negative. Any editing creates a modified version which is kept in the Modified folder. This way you can always go back to the original version to start a different edit/crop, etc. If you cropped an image to 4x6 to print and then later wanted an 8x10, you'd have to further crop the image, this time the 4x6 image to get the correct proportions and that would severely reduce the resolution and quality of the image.
If you want to only work on the original files then you'll need a different application, perhaps an image browser and a 3rd party editor.
    Do you Twango?
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've written an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 08 libraries. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

  • How to make my own custom photo album background from scanned image?

I know how to use the custom backgrounds within photoshop elements 5.0 but I would like to create my own. I have scanned a map of Big Bend National Park that I used as a DVD title menu and would like to make a photo album and use the same scanned map as the backgroud for all pages. Is that doable in elements 5.0? Can I just add the scanned image into the custom folders somehow?

My thought is to create a single thread, and within
that thread continually pull from a static array
casting each to an EventObject type. But I am confused
also as to how to dispatch the events to their
appropriate listeners. This is commonly known as a ProducerConsumerQueue: you have multiple sources of events, and multiple consumers for those events. The queue mediates between producers and consumers.
In the case of an event thread, the queue runs in one thread, and all the producers run in other threads. In the case of the Swing/AWT event thread, the producer is the GUI code in the JVM, which receives OS-level (considering X an OS for the moment!) window events and then puts them on the queue, associated with the correct object.
You'll find a LinkedList a better choice for the queue than a static array, as it can grow or shrink without bounds. The consumer side calls removeFirst(); if nothing's in the List, it calls wait(). The producer side calls addLast(), followed by notify(). Needless to say, you'll need synchronization, but you don't want to synchronize your listeners ... that's a fun problem that's left for the reader.
The various listener lists can be maintained with Maps, where the event object is used to lookup a list of listeners. In a GUI environment, the event object has to maintain the source as well as the event object; in a non-GUI environment, it typically only holds the event type.

  • How to make a 2nd,  new Photo Library the default on open

well, we've now reached 15,000 picts on my iPhoto and you know what that means.
I read MISSING MANUAL (pogue) and now how, with option-boot up, to create a new photo library. Very cool.
HOWEVER: I wish this new library to be the default library when I open up iPHoto 5.
    How do do?
    JON

    JON,
iPhoto opens the most recently used library by default. So all you have to do is create the new library. When you Quit iPhoto, it will be set to open that library the next time you launch. If you want to open a different library, you will have to Option-Launch to select it.
Also, you might like to check out iPhoto Library Manager. It facilitates switching among iPhoto libraries. Plus, it allows you to transfer rolls and albums between libraries while preserving the keywords, ratings, titles, and other database information.
    Regards.

  • How to make different folders in photo album

I have been addings photos in album. Now I want to make different folders in the album but unable to do so. Please guide.

I may be misunderstanding what you want to do,
You can create albums on the iPad in order to organize photos but I believe that you must be running iOS 5 at least. Your tagline shows iOS 4.3.2. It's been quite a while since I was running iOS 5, but I'm pretty sure it was introduced in iOS 5.
If you are running iOS 5 or higher, launch the photos app and tap on Photos, then tap on the Edit button in the upper right. Select all of the photos that you want to place into an album by tapping on them. Then tap on Add To and choose Add to New Album. Name the new Album in the popup window and then tap Save.
If you are not running iOS 5 - you have to import the photos from the camer roll to your computer, creat the albums on the PC and then sync them back to the iPad via iTunes.
    read about importing photos here.

It seems those photos are corrupted in some way. You mentioned that they were put there with the iPad camera connection kit

Are you able to interact with these photos at all on your iPad. Open them, Zoom, etc... If so will the share button work?

  • How to make copies/duplicates of photos in LR4 - NOT Virtual Copies

Can someone tell me if there is a SIMPLE way to make a copy or duplicate of a photo in LR4. In otherwords, you have a photo image in one folder and you want to make a copy and move it to another folder or subfolder and that copy is identical in EVERY aspect to the original photo and can be edited, manipulated, etc. without affecting the original. I can find nothing on this subject - all I keep getting is this VIRTUAL COPY which is NOT like the original and cannot be moved without the original (Master) going along with it. What's the problem? Every image program I know of can do this. BTW this in on a Mac Lion (10.8.4). Thank you, Brad

Or same (or different) location, and do rename.
I do this regularly, but only for testing purposes. Note: Some people don't want to use virtual copies, because they are handled as "2nd class citizens" by Lightroom (e.g. not saved in xmp, and must tag along with master base copy...).
That said, I agree that care should be taken when having multiple (real) copies of same file, especially if they have the same filename (which I don't recommend, unless you really know what you are doing, and why...).

  • How to make a copy of photos taken on iPad camera?

I've only just got an iPad so forgive me if this is really basic but I want to make a copy of a photo I have taken with the camera on the iPad so I can edit one but still have the original. I've tried copy image but it doesn't seem to do anything, I'm not sure if it saves it somewhere else or it's just a copy and paste function?

What you are doing is a copy and paste function. After you copy the photo, it is placed on the iPad clipboard - which is invisible and cannot be accessed. The photo will remain in the clipboard until you copy something else which will replace the photo.
What app are you using for editing? I use PhotoPad for a little bit of editing and when I edit the photo and save it, it does not replace the original photo.

  • How to make a collage?

I've been looking around at various software programs but I'm still not sure I've found anything that'll work. If anyone can steer me in the right direction, I'd really appreciate it.
I'd like to create a collage consisting of small pieces of various photos. Is there a program where I could cut out these pieces, paste them onto a blank template or something and then print the whole thing in one fell swoop?
If possible, I'd like to be able to overlap the pieces like a traditional collage- like we used to do in junior high.
Thanks so much for any help.

There are some 3rd party applications that do that. Photoshop and Photoshop Elements have that capability. Go to VersionTracker.com and do a search for "collage". You'll get a couple of possible candidates.
If you plan on doing a fair amount of sophisticated editing, like this or similar, then Photoshop Elements is probably the best consumer application for the job. IMO.
