Do you have Pages? It's an excellent app to make collages. You can create a canvas with Pages, drag the photos you want from iPhoto into the open Pages window, resize and position the photos as needed.
I belive the demo version of OmniGraffle - The Omni Group will let you arrange up to 10 objects on a page. I use it to create this 96 photo collage poster:
But Pages would be easier to use if you have it.

How to make copies/duplicates of photos in LR4 - NOT Virtual Copies

Can someone tell me if there is a SIMPLE way to make a copy or duplicate of a photo in LR4. In otherwords, you have a photo image in one folder and you want to make a copy and move it to another folder or subfolder and that copy is identical in EVERY aspect to the original photo and can be edited, manipulated, etc. without affecting the original. I can find nothing on this subject - all I keep getting is this VIRTUAL COPY which is NOT like the original and cannot be moved without the original (Master) going along with it. What's the problem? Every image program I know of can do this. BTW this in on a Mac Lion (10.8.4). Thank you, Brad

I do this regularly, but only for testing purposes. Note: Some people don't want to use virtual copies, because they are handled as "2nd class citizens" by Lightroom (e.g. not saved in xmp, and must tag along with master base copy...).
That said, I agree that care should be taken when having multiple (real) copies of same file, especially if they have the same filename (which I don't recommend, unless you really know what you are doing, and why...).

Double click the layer icon in the layers panel. Then hit the create mask button at the bottom of the panel (lower red circle). Then with the layer mask selected (upper red circle, notice the black outline shwoing you are working the mask, not the layer), use the gradient tool to make a gradient as shown in the icon preview. Then save for web as PNG24.

How to make a selection in one photo and move it to another photo

I have always used Photoshop Elements, from 7 up to 12. I just bought Photoshop CC. I am totally confused over it. There's not photo Bin, that is where I use to drag from the open photo down to the one I wanted the selection in. I tried doing it
by making the pictures smaller and dragging them down to the bottom, but then things got messed up and every time I opened another photo to use it open on top of the previous one. To me this is important as this is what I have done
in Elements all the time. I can learn the other stuff about Photoshop later, but this one thing is important to me to be able to figure out. I make pictures for people who have lost their pets or for birthdays and use a lot of digital scrapping stuff in
them. It's always been easy to do so, but now I am totally in a daze over how to do it. Always wanted Photoshop, but I only have 30 days to decided if I like it and if I can't figure this one thing out I will have to return the program. Can someone
point me in the right direction for some tutorials on how to do this one thing?

In the menu Edit there is an item Scripts and there is an Item Load …
If you want to rescale, rotate, … parts of your composition you should work with Smart Objects.
So see if Photoshop > Preferences > General > Palce or Drag Raster Images as Smart Objects is checked and then use File > Place to put the elements into your layered file.
Whenever you need to adjust one select it in the Layers Panel and invoke Edit > Free Transform (cmd-T).
The advantages of Smart Objects are numerous:
• multiple instances of a SO in a containing document that update simultaneously on saving an edited SO (please note that for a SO to maintain a connection to the external file one needs to use File > Place Linked instead of File > Place Embedded )
• the possibility of placing vector content as Vector Smart Objects (though this will output as pixels)
• non-destructive application of Filters
• non-destructive application of transformation, warp, puppet warp (not all of these are available for Vector SO, but by converting such a one to a regular SO they become applicable)
• combination of elements of different color spaces
• the ability to Replace Contents of SO (for example when faking as-of-yet non-existent products by mapping packaging design elements onto images of a blank container and the design is likely to change)
• Stack Modes for certain combinations of photographic images

How to make slide show out of photos

I have about 60 .jpg's I like to make into a slide presentation. What I would like to be able to do is give a friend/relative a disk and all they would have to do it....well, nothing. I'd like it to open on my image number 1. I would like the image to stay on the screen until it's manually advanced by "clicking" on it or on and "advance" button. It seems like it should probably be easy, but I can't figure it out. I'm not adverse to using third party software. I want the images to be as clear as possible. Am using OS X Maverick with 32 GB of ram.

There are many ways to produce slide shows using iPhoto (see this: http://support.apple.com/kb/PH2423 ), iMovie or iDVD and some limit the number of photos you can use (iDVD has a 99 chapter (slide) limitation).
If what you want is what I want, namely to be able to use high resolution photos (even 300 dpi tiff files), to pan and zoom individual photos, use a variety of transitions, to add and edit music or commentary, place text exactly where you want it, and to end up with a DVD that looks good on both your Mac and a TV - in other words end up with and end result that does not look like an old fashioned slide show from a projector - you may be interested in how I do it. You don't have to do it my way, but the following may be food for thought!
Firstly you need proper software to assemble the photos, decide on the duration of each, the transitions you want to use, and how to pan and zoom individual photos where required, and add proper titles. For this I use Photo to Movie. You can read about what it can do on their website:

(Other users here use the alternative FotoMagico: http://www.boinx.com/fotomagico/homevspro/ which you may prefer - I have no experience with it.)
Neither of these are freeware, but are worth the investment if you are going to do a lot of slide shows. Read about them in detail, then decide which one you feel is best suited to your needs.
Once you have timed and arranged and manipulated the photos to your liking in Photo to Movie, it exports the file to iMovie as a DV stream. You can add music in Photo to Movie, but I prefer doing this in iMovie where it is easier to edit. You can now further edit the slide show in iMovie just as you would a movie, including adding other video clips, then send it to iDVD 7, or Toast, for burning.
You will be pleasantly surprised at how professional the results can be!

I want to get all my keywords embedded. I think a workaround is to make a smart list that has all my photos which contain any key word. Export all these photos. Then import them back in using auto arrange by event.
How do I make a smart list that contains all photos with any keyword (I dont see that as a choice) and will this workaround work?

In the Photos window turn off the Event Titles so all you see are the photos. Then sort by keyword, ascending or desending. The photos without a keyword will be at one end of the display of photos. Find all of the photo without a keyword and batch add a new, unique keyword. Then make a smart album with the criteria Keyword is not "XXXX".

TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've written an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. If you want DIY, edit a still into the timeline. Option drag (to duplicate) the clip to the layer immediately above the primary storyline; repeat 3 more times so you have 4 identical clips connected to the original clip on the primary storyline.
For each clip, select, and resize with the transform function. Reposition as necessary. Either keyframe the moves into the correct position in the frame or keyframe the opacity if you want them to appear sequentially.

How do I stop duplicates of saved photos from being imported into iPhoto?

When I sych to iPhoto, I get duplicates of art work that I have in "Saved Photos". iPhoto doesn't screen out art work that I have created and added before making a lot of work to delete all the duplicates.

Photos you take on your iPhone are normally displayed in the Last 12 Months section of iPhoto. If you are using iPhoto to archive photos copy the photos from there to other albums in iPhoto instead of syncing them.

How to make a duplicate CD?

I have lost my copy of Director MX 2004 (MAC) CD. My program is registered with Adobe but I am told they cannot send me a duplicate CD because it is too old. I have the program installed on my Mac at work but I want to take it off and put a copy on my machine at home. I don't know which files to copy and where to put them on my machine at home. Customer service have not been helpful. Can someone please advise.

I do not think you can do what you are asking. You can duplicate the installation CD only if you have the original CD to duplicate. You can not simply copy the installed files from one machine to another and expect it to work. You need to install it from the CD.
You may be able to find the installation media somewhere on the web, but if not, then you should contact Adobe. This is their preferred contact method:

By they way, this forum is not actively monitored by anyone at Adobe (or at least, they very rarely make any comments here). Most everyone here are just users of Director. That link I posted above should get you to someone at Adobe who may be able to help you.

How can I find duplicates in my photo library

I have imported old photos from discs. Some of them had duplicates on them. Is there any way to find and eliminate duplicates. I have several thousand photos and not all of them have been identified in any way (eg.date, label, etc.) that would help me.

How to make sense of the multiple photo subfolders in my iphone?

I used to manually copy and paste newly taken photos from my iphone into my computer. Ever since I bought iphone 6, there is suddenly an onslaught of subfolders created, with seemingly no patterns how the photos and videos are sorted. I am now unable to download the photos from the iphone to my computer because i cannot find the most recent pictures taken. See screenshot of the multiple folders in my phone!
help?! On the related note, how does sync photos work? will that help solve my problem?

How to make smart album from path photos

So I'm trying to make smart album for all of my Path's photos stored in my iPhoto library, but I find it difficult to determine proper filter.
I have tried to make smart album from instagram's, with this: Any Text - contains - instagram
But it doesn't work for path photos.

Yeah, I understand. I have to put the keyword first, the problem is sometimes I transfer almost around 800 photos at once. I haven't had much time to sort every photos and put the keyword on every Path photo. Beside so many photos in my library, and not well-organized. Also I have tried any possibilities of relevant criteria in smart album. But still zero result.
So, before I actually take the time to organize my thousands of photos manually, I was thinking maybe there's another way, simple and smart one, with this smart album feature. Anyone?
