How to make a DVD disk image to be burned from a PC?

I need to make a DVD with DVD-SP, save a disc image, upload it have someone on a PC download it and burn it.
Is this possible? Anybody been succesful at this?
thanks

If they have a burning program that recognizes VIDEO_TS files, no problem.
You need to remove two files from VIDEO_TS first called .LAY and .LAYOUT. They are only required by DVD SP and not the final disc.
To be safe make a top level folder called NAME_OF_FILM (max 32 characters) and put VIDEO_TS in there together with an empty folder named AUDIO_TS.
Actually, DVD SP should generate this for you it will be where ever the Build folder is set to be saved in Preferences.
Don't make a Mac disk image. PCs can't read them. A .zip file or ISO (Toast makes them) is probably better.

You first have to make that iMovie project into a DVD project in iDVD, then save that as a disk image, and burn the disk image in Toast.

You need to have the disc in order to create disk image of snow leopard installer disc. What did your machine ship with? If something later than SL, then why? If earlier, then you can buy the SL installer disc and make the disk image.

I hope all this is clear.

Yes, that's correct, at least not directly. You can create a blank disk image, copy the file to the mounted disk image, then burn the image to a CD/DVD.
Open Disk Utility and select Blank Disk Image from the New menu. Provide a name, Save location, and select the image size from the drop down menu. Leave Encryptions at None and Format as read/write. Click on the Create button.
After the image file appears the "removable" disk should be automatically mounted. If not double-click on it to mount it. A "removable" disk icon will appear. Drag the file you want to place on the disk image to the "removable" disk icon. The eject the "removable" disk icon. Now select the disk image file in the DU left side list and click on the Burn icon in the DU toolbar. Be sure to have a blank disc ready.
The above is actually the "long" way to do this. A much easier way is to simply insert a blank CD or DVD into the optical drive. The Finder will pop up a dialog asking what to do. Select the option to mount on the Desktop. You will now see a disc icon on the Desktop. Drag the file you want to burn to the CD/DVD, right-click or CTRL-click on the disc icon and select Burn from the contextual menu.

  • How I make a boot disk

    Hello.
I'm an absolut Linux beginner and I tried to install archlinux on an external HDD, because my internal windows drives are dynamic logical Volumes and this doesn't work with Linux.
After the installation from the CD I noticed that I cannopt boot from USB HDD because of the BIOS.
How I make a boot disk (floppy) now ? The wiki guide doesn't help because if I boot from the installation CD I don't have the command fdformat and the command pacman - S grub works neither.
    Can you help?
    Best Regards

Excuse by bad language please, I'm not english!

    Ok,
I found a grub boot disk on the net, it was a super grub boot disk. I deleted nearly all files and just copied my files from /boot/grub in the grub directory of the floppy disk. I used the windows tool "explore2fs" to get acces to my boot partition with the grub directory.
    Her is my menu.lst:
    # (0) Arch Linux
    title  Arch Linux
    root   (hd2,0)
    kernel /vmlinuz26 root=/dev/sdc1 ro vga=773
    initrd /kernel26.img
    # (1) Arch Linux
    title  Arch Linux Fallback
    root   (hd2,0)
    kernel /vmlinuz26 root=/dev/sdc1 ro vga=773
    initrd /kernel26-fallback.img
    # (1) Windows
    title Windows XP
    rootnoverify (hd0,0)
    makeactive
    chainloader +1
It doesn't work, because the hd 2,0 is not found from grub. (Selected disk does not exist)
It seams that grub is not recognizing my usb hdd at start up ?!?! but this cannot be, because during the installation process it is.
    Many Thanks
    BX-8017
PS The possibility to boot Arch with the Windows Bootmanager is interesting. Maybe we can discuss this later.....

How to make a colorful Gif Image for Happy Holi 2014

Okay, I know this doesn't answer your question, but don't get me wrong. A logo is meant to be the way it was designed - upright, no flipping/ swiveling animation. Why exactly do you want to let your logo turn around?
If its to grab attention, why dont you consider animating the area on which your logo sits (header)? Or maybe add nice transitive slideshows on your main content area to add more interactivity?

  • How to make iTunes read the song's name/singer from the file's name itself?

    Hi everyone,
So I have this file with songs from everywhere. I spent quite some time now to make sure that the structure of each file's name is as such : "Singer - Song name", hoping that everything would be read by iTunes accordingly. However, either iTunes read it well, or it didn't read it at all ("Singer - Song name" appearing in Title alone), or iTunes read the "media" of the file (ie. what the guy I downloaded it from wrote for it in the Preferences, which usually is in capital letters or with a bunch of weird underscores). As I'm OCD and need everything to be neat, I'm highly tensed right now. I really want everything to be neat and clear!
So, how do I make sure that iTunes reads the files' names such that it knows the structure is "Singer - Song name"? Thanks.

iTunes doesn't use file names to determine how music appears in your library,  Rather, it uses metadata that is split between:
data elements that are embedded within the media files
data elements that are included in the entries in the iTunes database
No amount of reorganization, renaming or other manipulation at the file level will make any difference to how songs will appear in iTunes.  Using your example:
the value of the track number element is 1
the value of the artist element is "Elvis Presley"
the value of the song name element is "Blue Suede Shoes"
Depending on how you configure iTunes then the file name is either:
completely independent of iTunes (i.,e., the file containing this song could be xyz.mp3)
dependent on the metadata managed by iTunes, (i.e., when you have these two options set:
then iTunes will set the file name to be 1-01 Blue Suede Shoes.mp3 where:
the file is in a folder called "Elvis Presley" (the name of the album)
that folder is in one called "Elvis Presley" (the name of the artist) which is in iTunes Media\Music
Going back to your question "How to make iTunes read the song's name/singer from the file's name" the answer is simple - you can't, as this is not how iTunes works.  There are some third-party utilities that you can use to set some metadata element values based on parsing of file names which might be a useful first step.  However, to use iTunes effectively you should really forget about / ignore file names - manage your media using appropriate metadata and allow iTunes to look after file names behind the scenes.

  • My DVD will play DVD's but will not burn from FCP

my DVD will play DVD's but will not burn from FCP also the Finder does not recognize when I load a black DVD

    You need DVD burning/Authoring software.
EIther iDVD or Roxio Toast or try freeware burning software Burn for OS X.
iDVD is no longer available, but the last complete version that still works comes with Apple's iLife '09 apps.
You would need to search for this on online sites like Amazon to see if you can still purchase.
You install the iDVD app and all the authoring themes by doing a custom install of the disc and ONLY installing the iDVD app and iDVD themes.
Here are a few copies of this for sale on Amazon U.S. site.

  • How do I compress a disk image (or DVD)

I have a DVD that's 7.6GB and I want to compress it and save it on my hard drive. It's a concert DVD (copyright protected I'm sure) so I want fairly simple access to it after compression. I made a disk image of the DVD and then saved the disc image to the desktop using Disc Utility. A disc image file that ends with ".CDR" is created and saved on the desktop. I have no problem opening the resulting file (.CDR disc image) and getting it to play in the DVD player or anything like that, however it's still a 7.6 GB file. Is there a way to compress the disc image? I read a post about dragging/dropping the disc image from the desktop into terminal (which I've never even opened before today) and then terminal would automatically compress the disc image. Is this correct? If it is, where is the resulting file (the compressed disc image) then stored? Is this even the easiest way to compress a DVD? Do I even need to make a disc image first, or is there software that will automatically compress the DVD for me and allow my DVD player to open it? It seems like there ought to be an easier way. What am I missing here? I'm not going to save a DVD (or disc image for that matter) that takes up that much space (7.6GB) on my hard drive. Thanks for any help. Michael

Copy protected DVD's (if that is what this one is) make copying difficult by intent. You can try MactheRipper to "rip" it to unprotected form, but please read & heed the caution about the legality of doing so at the developer's web site.
This app may or may not remove any copy protection, since DVD makers understandably sometimes modify their schemes in an attempt to defeat apps like this one. You may also need to make decisions during the ripping process that may affect the way the content plays. IOW, this isn't a 'one-button & your done' sort of thing.
That said, any unprotected DVD can be compressed in various ways by various apps, but you should be aware that compression affects playback quality. Different apps give you greater or lesser control over this & it may well be that compressing the content to a size acceptable to you results in quality that isn't acceptable.
The commercial apps Popcorn & Toast Titanium 7 are probably the easiest to use for this, but that is because they mainly are intended to compress 'jumbo' DVD's down to a size that fits onto regular ones, about 4.7 GB. For better control of compression vs. quality, you will probably have to use more 'geeky' stuff and/or use MactheRipper to discard whatever is least important to you.
If all this sounds like too much trouble, consider investing in more drive space for your .cdr files or just buying extra copies of the DVD's you need to archive.
