How to make a DVD from non-commercial DVD

I belong to a choir and we have a DVD someone made for us to use in presentations to civic groups. How can I make a copy so more than one person can use it for our presentations? Sorry, I didn't find another thread on this? I do have Toast.......do I need it? Thanks in advance Janieg

Editing material from a commercial DVD

I'd like to mess around with footage from a commercial dvd...in this case a nice quality criterion disk. This is my own dvd and this is strictly for the practice and personal use. How do I transfer the movie to FCP for editing? I've used Handbrake to successfully rip the movie into both Mpeg4 and Avi files (Mac the Ripper is not yet available for Universal). When I file/edit/import/files for either of these formats, I get the following message:
File Error: 1 file(s) recognized, 0 access denied, 1 unknown.
...so the question is, how do I get this to work? Am I formatting all wrong?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Completely understand about the 1st Problem. I will speak of it no more.
2nd Problem solved...again, by searching the forums and culling, culling.
The solution is to import the original footage from iMovie into quicktime, then open with FCP.
I am, however, running into a problem of rendering that footage. The quick fix is to use "unlimited RT", which allows me to actually view the footage, make my edits, etc., but I will eventually have to render at some point. If you have suggestions, please post...otherwise, I'll probably find the solution searching the forums.

Can't create disk image of non-commercial DVD

I am trying to create a disk image of a 3.7 Gb non-commercial DVD instructional video using disk utility.
I can only get about 70 per cent of the way through before the reading/writing of the DVD content freezes for a few minutes, and then I get the message:
"unable to create -- copy.cdr - input/output error."
I have tried repeatedly on both my MacBook and desktop Imac with no ability to clone an image of this DVD. (Same results when I try to do the same thing with Roxio Toast 8.)
Are there any workarounds or perhaps a method of determining definitively if the source DVD is copy-protected ? Otherwise, what is causing these repeated input/output errors ? ? ?

I'm giving up on this particular DVD, not worth any more time tryin different permutations that al seem to fail.
I would have thought someone would have been able to write a software program that will copy ANY DVD --even one with errors in file names etc, since that's what copying routines are supposed to do. This DVD I am trying to copy plays just fine on the Mac, auto-starting DVD player when it is inserted and there are no problems wth either audio or video thru multiple chapters. So the disk can't be THAT bad if it is supposedly error-prone. and yet I get errors when trying to make a simple mirror image of this dame DVD. Go figure ????
If it has such terrible errors, why does it play fine on the Mac and on our living room DVD player as well ??
How do I copy it ??? - "errors" and all . Is there software that will ignore "errors" and just copy the darn thing errors and all ?

I did not read the rather long post. If you wish to reinstall OS X 10.4, use your software install DVD. Backup is essential. To minimize your risk, I would use an archive and install:

In that way, you will have a fresh copy of OS X and your current settings will be preserved.
Incidentally, I do not agree that the printer problem is best solved by reinstalling OS X. I have had HP printers for sometime and, on one occasion, had difficulty after an upgrade. HP technical support walked me through uninstalling all traces of the HP driver and then reinstalling.

I have a film in a proyect made with a miniDV camera in my old Premiere 6.5
It has 68 minutes and after exporting it with the Microsoft DV AVI compressor in 100 % quality and not compressing the audio, it ended in an AVI of 14 Gigas.
I would like to obtain a DVD of the best quality in audio and video possible. How can I do it? SHOULD I EXPORT IT FROM THE PREMIERE 6.5 WITH ANOTHER COMPRESSOR OR IN LESS THAN 100% QUALITY WITH THE SAME DV AVI COMPRESSOR ? my INTENTION IS TO USE THE NERO VISION AFTERWARDS... I HAVE THE NERO VISION 4...-. FROM 2007- WOULD IT BE OK OR IS THERE A BETTER ONE? - I know there are newer ones...but better?

I have now seen that one of the options for exporting from Premiere 6.5 is Adobe MPEG encoder. So Do you guys think it would be a good idea to do it with that, Or Would it be better AVI or DV AVI compressor from Premiere before making the DVD?
I have the Nero Vision 4.9.6.6 But I may be able to look for another one if you think it is better...

Error in Copying a non-commercial DVD using Disk Utility

I have a non-commercial DVD. I am using Disk Utility to make an image and reproduce the DVD. It consistently runs through the cycle and at the very end I get a dialog box:
STOP "Input/Output Error"
Any ideas? I really would like to make back up copies of this video event.

OK, well sorry to disagree with you but:-
1. Using windows 7, the download does not provide a save but only a run option.
2. In the MS predownload instructions you copied it refers to the readme text next to "the ISO image"
3. This is a copy of the read me file attached:-

As you will see it refers to the downloaded .iso file. Nowhere is there a reference to a msi. As there was only a run function on the downloaded file, it could not be saved. How is an ordinary Windows user meant to interpret the instructs
if the download function does not work? What you do is try and follow the instructions and produce a load of frigging coffee mats, as it seems did many of the posters on this thread. Are we all illiterate?
If Microsoft could think in the way of a user it would help a lot of people.

Ah, but wouldn’t it be ever so much easier to explain if you actually provided (a lores of) the image in question?
And how do I make the background transparent?
Preferably with a Layer Mask and then saving in the appropriate file format (psd or png24 for example support transparency).

I am designing work-flow of my application through BPEL(JDeveloper), I am making different BPEL projects for different functions, like sales manager got the order from sales person and sales manager either approve it or reject it, if he approve it it goes to Production manager and he ships the goods, now I want to keep sales person, sales manger,production manager in seperate BPEL files and want to get the output of sales person to sales manager and sales manager to production manager please help me in dong this.
I was trying to make partner link in Sales manager of sales person and getting the input from there. I dont know this is right even or not, if it is right I dont know how to make data flow from one application to other.
Experience people please guide.

Yes you can do this.
If you each integration point to be in different process, you have to create three BPEL process.
1. Create a Async BPEL process 'A' which will be initiated when sales person creates the order.
2. From BPEL process 'A' call a ASync BPEL process 'B' which has the approval flow. Depending on the input from process 'A' the sales manager will review the order in workflow and approve or reject and send the result back to process 'A'.
3. Based on the result from workflow, invoke the Sync BPEL process 'C', where you can implement the shipping logic.

As you have found in the View Menu of iChat is the option to Display the Recipients Bar
This bar when clicked will display the Screen Names that you know for your Buddy and your own Screen Names.
The Buddy's names are in the "To:-" section whilst your own are in the "From:-"
Example pic from my iChat 6
The Chat window has to Be Open.
The Buddy's current name becomes a Drop Down that show the To and From names.
It appears to allow you to Connect Google or Jabber IDs to AIM Buddies but the tick will move to any valid Account if you change either the To choice or the From choice.
AS you say about the add Buddy drop down that appears - when your Buddy list are displayed as one an extra drop down appears fro you to Select the account/list it is joining as a Buddy

Only you can decide what you want to delete to free up space on your PB, Personally I think you'll find 17 GB won't go very far when you start to add video.
Consider an external drive. Don't forget if you let your free space fall below 10% of the total size of the drive you will risk corrupting your directory structure or causing other damage which may result in a loss of data.

I don't even know if this is the right forum but I've tried searching in iTunes & iDVD and can't find the answer.
Is it possible to download a short section of audio, a song for example, from a DVD of a mainstream Hollywood movie? If so, how? Can I save it in iTunes so that I can listen on my iPod?

Commercial DVD's are encrypted to prevent just such a thing.
It is ILLEGAL to break this encryption.
