How to make a glow gradient in illustrator?

I made a shape and added a gradient to it, then I added a glow effect around the edges, how do I make the gradient inside of the shape match with the glow color? The glow effect is only 1 color, I want it to be a gradient like the gradient I made inside of the shape. How do I do this?

What is the color of each stop in the gradient you are using on the inside? Please provide a screenshot if that will help us understand what exactly you are trying to accomplish.
Outer glow is like a gradient, except you only define 1 color stop, and it ends at 0% opacity.

  • Using PS CS 6 how to make an oval gradient

    I just want to make a gradient, transparent to black, like a vignette only more so, on an image that is four times as wide as high. I can make a circular gradient, and start it at the centre using the ALT key, but I can't make it oval. I'm using PS CS 6, Win 7x64.
    I know this is simple, I even used to know how to do it, but the brain isn't responding. Can someone tell me what I'm missing?
    David

    Begin with the radial gradient (Step 1)
    Select the area shown in Step 2)
    Edit > Transform > Distort (Step 3)
    Image > Adustments > Invert (Step 4, is desired)

  • How to make a good gradient?

    What am I not understanding here? I want my gradient to look like this:
    I adjust the gradient controls (left) to something close to this, but the rectangle (right) looks noting like it:
    How do I get a smooth, wide gradient insted of a narrow band like above? What am I missing?

    You're seeing the default application of the shape gradient fill -- which is approximately 200px wide --- total! -- end to end. If you look a little further down the params, you'll see Start: X 0px   Y  100px  and End: X 0px    Y  -100px... vertically oriented.
    You can either drag out the X's and set the Y's to zero for a horizontal orientation, or easier yet is to go into the Tools menu and select Adjust Item you'll get the onscreen controls you see below.
    You can drag the triangle shapes around on the screen to adjust your gradient end points and drag the small squares ("tags") to adjust the color ranges.
    You can double click on the line with the Adjust Item tool to add more colors, or right click on the line to pop up a contextual menu of other options (like adding opacity tags and a few other cool things like distributing the colors/opacities, or picking a preset gradient.)
    However, you still need to use the gradient tool in the inspector to set the "Middle" locations between tags.

    I know hot:
    1. Make the squares (use the Rectangle Tool), then I copy + paste it and try to position the new regtangle. And then I repeat this until I have enough squares.
    2. Then I color the squares with different colors.
    But is there esier way? It is ahrd to get the squares sometimes in to right position....
    And also, how can I get that curvey line/feel to my image?

    For the warp tool, look in Effect -> Warp -> Bulge (or whatever type of warp you'd like).
    Once you've applied the effect, go to Object -> Expand Appearance and you can color the squares as you see fit.

  • How to make colors look same in illustrator and Flash Builder

    We had a designer build out our UI using Adobe illustrator, and then tried to replicate the same hex color and alpha codes in Flash Builder- colors are looking very different on the same machine
    We have used basic web colors but the problem persists. Any pointers on why this could happen?

    Thanks Joan... we managed to figure out the cause to a large extent- problem
    arisen by the way the layers were built in Illustrator vs Flashbuilder. I
    still have the following questions, that we are currently handling via a
    workaround
    a) when I try to skin the container using SkinnableContainer, the skin
    doesn't take effect- but works, when I use same skin with a BorderContainer.
    Any idea of why this is so?
    The code used is as below
    <s:BorderContainer id="Banner" height="15%" width="100%"
    skinClass="mySkins.newskin1">
    <mx:Image id ="logo" source="assets/graphics/logo.png"
    x="{0.018Banner.width}" y ="{.09Banner.height}"
    height="{Banner.height*0.7}" maintainAspectRatio="true"
    width="{Banner.width*0.085}"/>
    <s:Label x="{0.065Banner.width }" y ="{.293Banner.height}"
    fontFamily="Copperplate" fontSize="34" kerning="on" color="#666666"
    text="EUREKA WORLD"/>
    <s:Label x="{.88Banner.width}" y ="{.293Banner.height}" fontFamily="Arial"
    fontSize="14" kerning="on" color="#666666" text="Help | Log Out"/>
    <s:Label x="{.865Banner.width}" y ="{.45Banner.height}" fontFamily="Arial
    Bold" fontSize="18" kerning="on" color="#666666" text="Welcome Gauri"/>
    </s:BorderContainer>
    Skin attached
    b) we are trying to replicate the design from Illustrator(exported in fxg
    format) and replicate in FlashBuilder. We would like to name the objects
    meaningfully so we can connect the front-end with names in the fxg code.
    Currently we see an objID. How do we name objects in Illustrator?
    c) When we use a mx:vbox within a repeater to display contents of an array,
    we had trouble skinning this for background color- compromise we reached was
    to have the background color in the mx:vbox with a skinclass for the border
    and shadow

    You may have to provide more detail about what you're attempting. The .woff font format and Illustrator are entirely unrelated. You need a font editor to output any flavor of font. The .ttf format is a specialized graphic format that also doesn't appear to be related to or supported by any of Adobe's products or intended workflows.

    Make your selection with one of the selection tools. I used the Magic Extractor
    Place the selection on its own layer, and make the selection active (CTRL+left click the layer thumbnail) - should see marching ants
    Go to Layer>Layer Styles>Style Settings
    Check outer glow and set the parameters for the glow.

  • How to make photoshop paths visible in Illustrator

    I work with images from various manufacturers of construction equipment and need to be able to put a stroke around the images at times. I have images from one manufacturer that are eps files with paths and they work fine but I have another manufacturer who supplies the images as tif files with paths and they do not appear in illustrator. Is there some trick to importing the images so that the paths are usable. Do I need to ask this question in the Photoshop forum instead?

    >...eps files with paths
    >...tif files with paths
    I assume you are referring to clipping paths, which are created in Photoshop and saved with EPS and TIFF files.
    Unfortunately, Illustrator does not recognize clipping paths in TIFF files. Page layout (DTP) applications, such as InDesign and QuarkXpress, do recognize TIFF (as well as EPS) file clipping paths, but, alas, not Illustrator.
    If you receive TIFFs with embedded clipping paths, just open them in Photoshop and resave as EPS -- or, better yet, create the desired background transparency in Photoshop and save as PSD for placing into Illustrator.
    If you need to do things to the clipping path itself, such as stroking, you can do it in Photoshop or use Export | Paths to Illustrator. Note that the latter creates an .ai file containing only the path, nothing else. But you can combine that path with the original image within Illustrator, creating, if necessary, your own clipping mask.
    If you don't have Photoshop, have your supplier save as EPS (or TIFF or PSD)
    and export the paths. That will give you the greatest flexibility within Illustrator.

  • How to make a gradient on two paths

    Hello,
    I am fairly new to Illustrator, although have used Photoshop, Fireworks and DW to some degree in the past.
    In CS4, I am trying to make a country map with different counties or states.  Using the map of the UK and including Wales, Scotland, and some of the counties as an example.  I need to portray the whole country, but only highlight a specific part of the land, along a train line and so quickly fade away to almost transparent in the further edges.
    Using the pen tool I have traced the country and county borders as paths. I then used the fill tool to make each country, or sea, a different colour.  Now I want to fade the edges of my map away to transparent to bring attention to the middle.  I have drawn another path on top and beyond the edge of the artwork and tried to make a transparency overlay and gradient in this path to make it fade to the edges.  However, this does not work as I had hoped for three reasons.
    1) the darkest edge of my 'fade path' does not blend into the country below but is quite an obvious line.
    2) the gradient is a different colour as it sits on top of other paths of different colours.
    3) the gradient is linear, from top to north, of radial, from a certain spot.  I need the gradient to flow out in all directions from a un-uniform 'blob' roughly in the middle.
    Can you please tell me how I can achieve my aim?
    3) I had one more query when tracing my map ...  I have two shapes and the paths align along one edge, think of the south border of Scotland, and the north border of England for example.  At the moment I have these two paths running alongside each other but not joined. So if I didn't draw my pen accurately, there are small pockets where they don't touch. Ideally I would like to borrow the other path line for a time then leave it as it continues on it's own route.
    Sorry if I mixed up the terms, I hope you can understand me.
    Hope you can advise which tools I should be using, or some tutorials I can follow?
    Thanks in advance.

    Thanks Mylenium. I've certainly learnt something from both replies.  I have now finished tracing the countries using your paste and cut method.  It was quite a tedious job!  I also found using the lasso tool and direct selecion tool that I could highlight just the area that bordered the next county/country.  My the latter stages I had to select multiples, join them and then add, delete more anchor points.  I'm sure there must be an easier way to trace an image!
    I tried the live trace, but the map I was using was too detailed it traced geography and not the borders.  Anyway, I'm there now.  Thanks for the advice.
    I think I'm on the wrong track with the 'blob'. I didn't mean the blob tool on AI, but was referring to the middle content of my map following the railway line, which is the bit I wanted to 'stand out' from the rest. I have perservered and think I'm getting somewhere with the gradients.
    Thanks also Skullmaster for the idea of gradient.  It wasn't working how I need, but from your link I found how to make a 'transparent opacity mask' which I have used with a photo in the background to some effect.
    It is a feature rich software and hard to know what to look for when I'm not sure of the terms.  Unfortunately I have a deadline for what I'm doing and this map is only a small part of it.  It will have to remain a work in progress as I slowly learn more techniques.
    I'm sure I'll be back with more ...

  • Why does Illustrator CS4 save pdfs with clipping paths and make rasters of gradient areas

    I am on a IMAC and upgraded to 10.6.8 Jan 2014. I am using CS4 Illustrator to create with. When i save my work as a pdf then reopen the pdf in Ill to make changes, the whole page has:
    A.) Multiple clipping paths around it
    B.) Most text has now become outlined. Not editable anymore.
    C.) Gradient areas have multiple clipping paths of the single gradient area
    D.) The gradient areas now become rasterized.
    This is very frustrating as now all of my marketing files, some 300+, are worthless. I don't know where to look anymore to find the problem.
    Please help.
    Thank you very much

    John,
    I have the presets as you have shown. I had been editing the supplied items as you suggested. Then figured i should ask the questions of those who are better than I.
    But still a bit confused as to why the new save places clipping paths around the document.
    Thank you John and Monika for your help.

    created by John Mensinger in Illustrator - View the full discussion
    I do a save as "pdf" in the format pull down tab. I save to a folder on the hard drive. Where is the "Illustrator editability" check box? I presumed it is in Acrobat some where
    but i seem to be lost.
    It is in Illustrator's Save Adobe PDF dialog, which pops up before the saved file is written.
    https://forums.adobe.com/servlet/JiveServlet/downloadImage/2-6439399-644928/450-397/Untitl ed-1.jpg
    Sorry i didn't mention this, but this seems to have occurred when using images and text from provided pdfs.
    That's a critical fact. If you didn't do the original save, the above is moot, and it's too late to exercise any control over the save process. Someone else failed to save for editability. The only thing you can do is clean up/repair the content, (release clipping masks, rebuild rasterized elements, expand objects, etc.), and save correctly as AI. Then, if necessary, re-save as PDF with the correct settings.

    >Illustrator seems to have more options to create effects?
    Suggest you are unaware of the fundamental difference between Illustrator and Photoshop. Photoshop is an raster image editor. It works by adjusting and moving pixels. Pixels are like tiny Legos that make up an image. Look closely enough and you can see the Legos. Illustrator is a vector graphic editor. It works by manipulating the shapes that an image appears to be made from.
    The web page you're looking at is a good example. Each letter is a shape that is scales to size and positioned according to the HTML layout instructions in the page's code. If you were to edit this page as a vector (Illustrator) you could be-size or reposition the frames that determine where text goes. You could edit the text, move letters and words around, change the font or the size of the text, and more.
    If you were to edit the page as a raster (Photoshop). You'd be more limited in some ways, since all you'd be working with is the image of the text, not the text itself. You wouldn't necessarily be able to do
    less. You'd be using different tools. If what you wanted was to edit the text or reformat it, then Illustrator would have the right tools for that job. If you wanted to blur the text or erase some of it as if wiping an eraser over the page, then Photoshop would have the better tools for that job.
    Without seeing the image you tried to post, I'm going to assume it's a realisitic looking illustration, like
    this one. That was drawn by a pro with years of experience with Illustrator and years more skill as an artist. If you want to make that image, you're going to have to go to school for a long time.

  • How to print effects/gradients in Illustrator CS5??

    I created various pieces for a project in Illustrator and now I want to send the files to the client for printing. My files are currently set to RGB color mode and I have a gradient and a few effects (specifically some textures) added to the different files. I noticed that when I changed the color mode to CMYK (for printing purposes) the effects & gradients were gone and I read up that they only work in RGB. So my question is how do I keep the gradients and effects intact so that I can print them? Don't they have to be in CMYK mode to print properly? I thought of possibly flattening it or converting the objects some how. I don't know what to do I'm at a loss. Oh the client wants the files in jpg format too. If you could also tell me how to set up the file for printing would be great. I'm still new at the printing side of things.
    Thanks in advance for the help.

    ashmic,
    Generally, if your uses of the artwork includes printing as in a printing house, you should start in CMYK because certain RGB colours cannot be reproduced in CMYK (you may use spot colours).
    If your printing is only on non PostScript printers as in most inkjets, you may be better off using RGB, because a non Postscript printer ultimately converts from RGB to CMYK, so CMYK artwork will be converted twice, first to RGB, then back to CMYK.
