There are two ways: "Save as.." usually optimises size, but there is also "Optimize PDF" in the menu with many options what to exclude and to reduce in quality. Be careful here, as pictures can become very bad.
A note: the size of a PDF vastly depends on from what source it is created. For example, if you draw some vector graphics in Visio and print to Adobe Printer, the resulting PDF is usually quite small in file size. Opening it in Illustrator and saving it again after you, let's say, just moved one line, can make it 10x as big. This is due to big overhead, Illustrator creates and this can not be reduced anymore in Acrobat later on. Sometimes it helps to convert or "save as" such an inflated PDF to a different format like EPS or HTML and print or convert again to PDF.
So, if you created the PDF yourself and you still have the source, you may adjust settings in the export/print dialog to make it smaller.

You need Adobe Reader or Adobe Acrobat or other PDF reading application installed on your system. Then just double click on the form or publication wanted and follow the prompts as needed.

  • How to make Smaller Pdf Files?

Hello. Previously I had asked a question on how to fit multiple pages into ONE pdf file. My questions was answered by advising me to download a program from Monkeybread Software, which I did, and which worked fine.
I now have a new problem. I have about 25 letters that I want to put in ONE pdf file, however each page is about 2.5mb after being scanned, therefore 3 pages when merged into One pdf file totals almost 10mb which is too large for sending on most servers.
The question then: Is there anyway these files can be made smaller so that all 25 pages could be put into the one pdf file and the size of that file be kept at a maximum of about 7mb?
(For info, the way I am making the files, is to scan one page and send it to my printer which has a 'Save to pdf' file on it. I then save that to the desktop and then drag each pdf into the Monkeybread program in order to merge them into one pdf) Hope this makes sense and that someone may have an answer for me. Thanks.

Some scanner software has a setting for "line art" that sees only black and white--no grays. I find that works best for scanning typed letter and the like. Makes very small files even at 300 dpi, which is as fine as you need for text.
The choice of resolution depends on how you intend to use the resulting pdf. For on-screen viewing, 150 or even 72 dpi is acceptable (except for those with vision challenges), but will not print very well. If you intend that the file be sent to others who will print it out for reading, then a line art setting (if available) at 300 dpi will result in decent print output without making a gargantuan file.
In the long run, having a scanner capable of optical character recognition (OCR) may work best because you can then paste the resulting files as plain text into one word processing document. A text-only WP file of 25 pages is doable for most mail servers. Remember: when using OCR, check the final document for scan errors. Example: the letter "i" may get picked up as a capital "I", the number 1, or an exclamation point ( ! ). Usually such errors are minimal and are often flagged by the WP program's spell checker.

  • Make a pdf file downloadable in iWeb

I have nearly completed my website in iWeb. It is still under construction and I've not published it yet.  I have PDF files that I want to make downloadable by clicking a hyperlink on my website. I've followed the instructions correctly, as best I can tell, by using the link to "File" in the Link inspector but I don't think that its working. I am able to pick that file from the Link Inpsector without any problems. When the hyperlink is enabled and the link is clicked, nothing happens. Other hyperlinks that I have on my website that are linked to external web pages work fine. When clicked Safari goes to them like it is supposed to.
The PDF files I have are on my local HDD in a folder I created for them. I have it named iWeb support. Using iWeb 3.0.4. This is the first website I've made and perhaps when it is published it'll work like it's supposed to but I'm worried that it isn't working while under construction. Any help greatly appreciated.

IX Webhosting and HostExcellence are owned by the same people and offer the same prices, features. The only difference between the two is that HostExcellence has a toll free number for users outside of the US.  Not a big difference unless you don't live in the US.

  • How to make a jar file downloadable with IE

    hello,
    I just bought a website:
    http://www.frozenfountain.net/
and I put a jar file on it called Logo.jar
Using Mozilla, the jar file downloads as expected, but with Internet Explorer, it tries to download it as .zip file.
How do I get it to download as a .jar file with IE?
    thanks

Just post a link to the Jar. Mozilla will download
it as a jar. Windows will download it as a zip.
Only one link. No problem, really. ;-)There is a problem. People who arent as good with computers as you are won't know how to run the jar file after downloading with IE.
At school, I told someone to download the file, which they did with IE. It downloaded to desktop as a zip. They extracted and were left with a bunch of .class files.
On a sidenote, how do you draw text with a gradient?

When I click on a pdf file to open from a website, Explorer tries to open the pdf, but reloads the page then errors out.  I am running XP pro with the Adobe Reader X.  I have tried to uninstall reader and re-install.  My registry is using the correct file.  The associates show reader as the default program.  I don't know where else to look.
    Thanks for your help.

What is your Adobe Reader version and your browser. If you are using Internet Explorer, use it in 32-bit mode.

  • How can I make a PDF file from each folders with layers, where each page is a each folder?

How can I make a PDF file from each folders with layers, where each page is a each folder?

I found an answer to my own question. A work around of sorts.
Download Photoshop Elements 6 for Macintosh. With PSE6 I made a slide show with 550 images 1920x1200, without thumbs. I ran into one problem making the slide show. My images contained 4 images which had not ben created by Photoshop and could not be included in the slide show. Opening the images in Photoshop CS4 and re-saving them still did not make then acceptable. Not a big deal. I probably could have fixed the four images by stripping all EXIF data before opening them in Photoshop. BTW, PSE6 made the slide show in demo mode.
I hope the bug in Photoshop CS4 will be fixed in Photoshop CS5.

Do you have images on your PDF? You might want to use smaller images (smaller in file size and not in necessarely in image dimension).
I'm not sure what else could be done to make your PDF form smaller. How big is your form?

  • Just upgraded to Lion, can't open any pdf file downloaded from internet that was fine with Leopard. How can I overcome this obstacle ?

Just upgraded to Lion, can't open any pdf file downloaded from the internet that was fine with Leopard before. I just got a black screen when I clicked on a pdf icon on a given internet site, and same happened with several sites that I visited. How can I overcome this obstacle ?

Try two things with Safari not running:
    1) Launch Adobe Reader, open its preferences, select the Internet category, and check the values under "Display PDF in browser using".  If it's checked, try unchecking it.
    2) Look in /Library/Internet Plug-Ins (at the top-level of your boot volume) for something names AdobePDFViewer.plugin.  If you see such a file, try moving it to a folder named "Disabled Plug-Ins" (if such a folder exists) or onto the Desktop.
    Then see how things work.

How can I make the pdf file size smaller?

    Hi vickyb,
Reducing the file size of PDF requires Acrobat (one way is by choosing File > Save As > Reduced Size PDF). If you don't have Acrobat, you can try it free for 30 days. See www.adobe.com/products/acrobat.html for more information.

You will havwe to sign up for some service that supports rights

to create your own ePub stuff using Digital Publishing Suite. In any case,
it will probably cost you money upfront before you make any revenue.

  • How to view a PDF file

Hey, i was wondering if anyone knew how to view a PDF file in Java? I'm trying to make a button that will open a PDF file. Is there any other way without downloading an extension?

    Kandyman wrote:
The thing with downloading extensions is that they are not free. Some are trial version. iText and Jasper are probably free and stable to a great extent. Plus they allow you to play with PDFs, Excel, Bar charts, Pie charts, CSV etc etc without the hassles of the heavyweight Swing.
