How to make a semi-ransparent layer?

Hello everyone,
I am making my own website with Dreamwaver. I am a totally
new user and have no IT background. So could anyone here kindly
help me with my question:
In the main page I would like to use two layers with images
inserted. The second one will be a semi-transparent image which is
made in Fireworks. I would like to let this layer cover the first
one. Because it's semi-transparent, so i should still be able to
see the underlying image... I did all this, but finally in the IE
the second layer is NOT transparent at all.
I don't know where the problem is. Please, if anyone knows
the solutions or have any suggestion, let me know!
Thanks!
Inca

I'll show it to you my way:
1. Type the text and click the layer mask icon. The layer mask should be all white and have a small border. That indicates the mask ist active.
The foreground color should be black and the background color white.
2. Choose the gradient tool. Open the gradient window. Choose the first gradient, "foreground to background" = black to white.
Change the white color to gray.
3. Check the layer mask > is it active?
Apply the gradient from right to left over your text.
See the thin line in the screenshot.
4. On your layer mask appears the gradient, left starting with gray and right ending with black.
The advantage of this method is that you can change your text without  modifying the gradient.
The black color on the layer mask hides the text, the gray color makes the text more or less visible and white color means full visible.
Hope it helps.

  • How to make green the default layer colour?

    With no documents open, the layers panel is blank. How can I therefore access it? I have alot of pmd files I now open in cs4, but need a green default layer. I'm beginning to think this cannot be done. Any thoughts? please and thanks

    A One-line javascript to set the color of layer #1 to green
    (But I bet Harbs could make it perform "on open", which I've steered well away from so far.)
    app.activeDocument.layers[0].layerColor = UIColors.GREEN;
    If you have more than one layer and want to have the full range of UI supplied greens, try this:
    var colors = [ UIColors.GREEN, UIColors.DARK_GREEN, UIColors.GRASS_GREEN, UIColors.GRID_GREEN, UIColors.OLIVE_GREEN ];
    for (i=0; i<app.activeDocument.layers.length; i++)
         app.activeDocument.layers[i].layerColor = colors[i % colors.length];
    Apart from that, it's also possible to use RGB colors to set the layer to any tint of green you can imagine.
    You like being green? I've heard it isn't easy.

    I'm not sure off hand since I rarely ever have used layer comps, but I believe you need to flatten them before being able to use them in an animation...

  • How to make a transparent text layer over a photo that scrolls?

    I looked through the Adobe Inspire Magazine, and found something really astonishing: the editor's added a text-over-photo effect multiple times throughout the magazine (See http://inspire.adobe.com/, october 2014. Has to be on the iPad to see the actual effect. "It's about the stories" by Dan Cowles features this effect).
    I was really baffled to see it, as it fits my current project perfectly. I'm building a book about a recent trip to Iceland, which will be released for the iPad in the nearest future. So far, I have used Adobe InDesign CC to create pretty much the entire book, since I know little to nothing about programming.
    My question is, how did they (he) do it?
    Is it possible to do for someone with pretty limited knowledge? If it is, how can I do it?
    Thanks a lot!

    Since Adobe Inspire is made using DPS, then you can do everything that it does.
    At the top of the help document, Digital Publishing Suite Help | Digital Publishing Suite Help, there are links to topics like Getting Started, Design and Layout, System Requirements, etc. Read them over to gain an overview. Also, download and review DPS Tips from the App Store.
    If you are using Creative Cloud 2014, you should already have DPS Tools available to you. DPS is supported for InDesign version 6 and greater. I have found DPS pretty straight forward to use following the information given in the documentation along with help from this forum and DPS Tips.

  • How to make picture in picture video semi transparent?

    I do know how to make picture in picture semi transparent if I import a photo instead of a video. However, if I import an video and want that video to be semi transparent at the right top cornor, I can do so with imovie? I know I can make the second video semi transparent if I use cutaway instead of picture in picture. However, I do not want the second video fill the whole screen, just the right cornor of the whole video.
    Please reply if you know how to do it in imovie. Thank you

    your wording confuses me ... what exactly do you want to accomplish:
    a cut-away replaces video, but keeps audio - that has nothing to do with 'transparency' (??)
    for sure, you can place and resize a PiP anywhere on the screen (pic#1)
    or, do you mean by 'semi-transparent' keying a PiP? (pic#2) A color-key within a PiP is not optional in iMovie; although, I tested it: if your source video contains 'alpha transparency', iMovie support that either.
    https://sites.google.com/site/karstenschluter/im09-counter
    or, do you want to manually change the compositing mode (pic#3)? That, indeed is not optional in iMovie.
    or, did you mean by 'just a part' cropping a PiP/second layer (pic#4)? Again, not optional in iMovie, complex compositing effects are habitat of professional tools such as FCPX.

  • How to make a plane semi-transparent

    Hi everyone. I am new here, and would like to thank you in advance.
    I am trying to make a semi-transparent plane using 3D with QuadArray. Have set TransparencyAttributes accordingly; and have even tried TextureAttributes. It just doesn't cut it.
    Without setting transparency, the plane is visible both sides. But once transparency set, it becomes invisible.
    Can anyone give me some ideas? Thanks!
    Here's the code snippet dealing with this plane:
    Appearance ap = new Appearance();
    TransparencyAttributes transparency = new
    TransparencyAttributes(TransparencyAttributes.NICEST, 0.5f);
    ap.setTransparencyAttributes(transparency);
    PolygonAttributes cullAttribute = new PolygonAttributes();
    cullAttribute.setCullFace(PolygonAttributes.CULL_NONE);
    ap.setPolygonAttributes(cullAttribute);
    TextureAttributes texture = new TextureAttributes();
    texture.setTextureMode(TextureAttributes.BLEND);
    ap.setTextureAttributes(texture);
    Point3f points[] = new Point3f[4];
    points[0] = new Point3f(-0.2f, 0.2f, 1.0f);
    points[1] = new Point3f(0.2f, 0.2f, 1.0f);
    points[2] = new Point3f(0.2f, -0.2f, 1.0f);
    points[3] = new Point3f(-0.2f, -0.2f, 1.0f);
    QuadArray planeVertices = new QuadArray(4, QuadArray.COORDINATES|QuadArray.COLOR_3);
    planeVertices.setCoordinates(0, points);
    Color3f colors[ ] = new Color3f[4];
    for(int i = 0; i < colors.length; i++){
    colors[i] = new Color3f(1.0f, 1.0f, 0.0f);
    planeVertices.setColors(0, colors);
    Shape3D plane = new Shape3D( );
    plane.setGeometry(planeVertices);
    plane.setAppearance(ap);
    ********************

    I just found that if I leave the colors undefined for the plane (a Shape3D); that is, remove the QuadArray.COLOR_3 flag, then the transparency works. Unfortunately, in that case, I can only have a white plane, and there's still no way for me to add color to the plane with its transparency maintained.
    The right way seems to be using QuadArray.COLOR_4 flag instead. But somehow I can't get it to work. That is, no matter what value I am using for the Alpha value, the plane just remains opaque.
    Can anyone give me some suggestions? Thanks a lot!

  • How to make the eyedropper sample non-transparent color of a transparant layer?

    I have an image of a flower I am trying to paint.
    I put the flower as the top layer at 50% opacity to use as a guide.
    Then I am trying to paint on a layer below that.
    I would like to be able to use the eyedropper on the original image but for it to pick up the full color and not the %50 opacity version of the color.
    I saw this done in a demo but can't seem to figure it out.
    I tried setting the eyedropper options to "All layers no adjustments" but it's still only picking up the lighter version of the color.
    Any suggestions?

    Another option might be to make a fully transparent layer on top to paint on, and get your color from a fully opaque layer below.  I have painted with the Mixer Brush quite effectively this way, though it's not incredibly speedy.

  • How to Make Hair Appear in Front of and Behind an MC Object?

    Hello again,
      I am making a character with lots of hair. I would like to know how to make the hair appear both in front of and behind the Movie Clip object.
      I'll explain further. I have the "frontHair" connected to the "head" MC. When I pivot the head, a bare spot shows in an outlined shape of the arms/legs/torso. I thought I'd remedy this by making "hairBack" and then layer it behind the object. This opens up a can of troubles.
      I can't seem to get the "hairBack" to appear behind the torso and arms. Also, the "frontHair" is now blocking me from grabbing onto the arms and legs.
      It's crucial that this character has all of the hair, but I can't seem to figure out how to make it happen.
      Please, help!
    Thank you,
       Mike
    p.s. While returning from a beer run, I thought about masking. I'm still trying to work out the logic on this one.

    Thank you for replying. II didn't know which specific layers and objects you were referring to, but I figured out the problem I was having.
      I used only one newly created "hair" object and set it to "Guide" to get it out of the way (in a sense). I then selected all the body parts (movie clips) that I could and selected "Move to Front" for each one. I used the Selection Tool to move the head (with connected hair) out of the way. After doing this I was able to select the "torso"; which was previously hidden behind the Armature Layer. I then put the head back in place and I was set to roll.
      Ah, but then I encountered another error. My animations are set to 24fps, but they are moving at least 10 times slower. This happens within Flash and in the exported swf files.
    The topic deals with "text field variable names" errors and compiler errors dealing with "Symbol 'fps' ".
    This is the address to that topic. http://forums.adobe.com/thread/1009225
    Thank you (again),
      Mike

  • How to make a slide show or edition including mpeg and other formats

    Hi,
    I am i bit puzzled by the use of iphoto/imovie/itunes.
    I have a Sony camera which generates jpg photos and mpg videos; besides, i have 3gp and mp4 videos from cell phones.
    Firstly, i imported all of them to iphoto. I used a automator workflow to help importing from hotsynced Palm centro files, to discover the first problem with the 3gp files: they could not be iported by workflows.
    Still, they could be seen in iphoto, but then i tried to make a slide show. My idea was to put the photos and videos of a certain event to be watched together, or at least to be able to watch the videos in a sequence, without having to click on each one.
    I didnt get it in iphoto, so i switched to imovie. it was even worse, since it cannot import the mpgs and the 3gps (the jpg photos were ok). What could i do about that? is there any converter or other way?
    then i tried the itunes, and it was the opposite: it imported and played in sequence the mpg videos, but not the photos. This is a workaround anyway, since the program expects to play movies, and makes my daughter a "star", but that`s ok, she is one to me.
    i'll be thankful for hints on how to make the imovie compatible with the 3gp and mpgs, or finding some way to do this edition in iphoto or even with itunes.
    regards

    I see, it sounds reasonable , i think i will buy the pro and try.
    QT Pro ($30) and MPEG Streamclip (free) complement each other. In many cases one can do things that the other cannot. For instance, MPEG Stramclip can handle/edit multiplexed formats while QT Pro cannot. QT Pro allows layering of data tracks while Streamclip does not. Streamclip merges file streams more easily than QT Pro but QT Pro allows the "Movie to MPEG-4" export to "passthrough" the video while Streamsclip does not. And so on and so forth...
    I was referring to the mpegs from the Sony camera, of which a have hundreds, shot in the last 3 or 4 years, mainly from my 5-year old daughter. Is the above true to these?
    That still doesn't help. By "sony camera," are you referring to a still digital camera (multiplexed MPEG-1) or a Sony video camcorder taking MPEG-4/AVCHD with AC3 audio in an MPEG wrapper, a Sony DVD/HDD camera storing some kind of MPEG-2/AC3 files. On a Mac, the extension MPG normally refers multiplexed MPEG-1 (or MPEG-1 audio layer) files while MPEG normally refers to multiplexed MPEG-2 video content with MPEG-1, layer 2 audio (MPEG2/MP2) but may also refer to files with MP3 or AC3 files in an MPEG, VOB, or TS wrapper. In addition it may loosely refer to elementary M2V video streams (M2V video file paired with a separate AIFF or AC3 file), a standard MPEG4/AAC file (in an MOV or MP4 wrapper) or a standard H.264/AAC file in MOV, MP4, or M4V wrapper). Since the handling, conversion, editing requirements vary with each type of file, it becomes important to what specific kind of content/file container we are dealing with here.

  • Shape group disappears when I make it a 3D layer ...

    So, a strange thing is happening.  I've got a corporate logo that was sent to me as an Illustrator file.
    I dropped it into AE, and selected "Create Shapes from Vector Layer."  So far, so good.
    The instant I click to make it a 3D layer (Ray-traced), the shapes vanish.  The wireframe is there, but the shapes themselves aren't visible.  I can extrude the shapes--which is why I made the layer 3D in the first place--but they're all in wireframe mode and I can't figure out how to see them.
    When I create a shape from scratch using the pen tool--in the same composition--I can see it no problemo, extrude it, light it, and everything looks great.
    No idea why this is happening with my converted shape group.  Thoughts?  I'm using the latest version of After Effects CC.

    Thanks guys, I figured it out.
    The problem is that my original graphic was black.  I applied a tint effect to change all the black text to white, and THEN I converted the layer into shapes ... but apparently After Effects uses the orginal color as the shape's fill ... and against the black background of my composition, the shapes appeared to vanish.  I switced the fill to white and now I can see the shapes like a normal human being.
    It usually IS something stupid like that, I guess ...

  • How to make visible value attributes of a Search Node

    Hi All,
    We have a requirement to enhance the search context node SEARCH ( Dynamic Query Object SVYQ ) of component SVY_S.
    But the enhancement category of Attribute Structure CRMST_QUERY_SVYIL is 'Can't be enhanced'.
    So we are adding value attributes to this context node. How to make this value attributes available in view configuration tab?
    Please suggest a better approach if there is any.
    Thanks in adv.

    Hi  Suchindra,
       You assign these  enhanced  attributes to design layer. so you can see these fields in Config tab.
    How to do:
    IMG->Customer Relationship Management -> UI Framework -> UI Framework definition -> Maintain
    design layer
    Here include the enhanced attributes and then go to component work bench and in context attributes right click assign the desing layer, selct your attribute and  in the bottom click on SAVE button.
    Then check it in configuration tab your attributes will available in show available fields.
    I hope this will solve your problem
    Regards,
    Sagar
