How to make a special accent on 's'

This is not strictly a InDesign question, but this is the place to get the answers! I am busy with school books in 6 different african languages, and one of the characters needed is the letter "n" (in upper and lower case) with an accent that looks like a v over it. I know how to do the inverted v that would be alt i.
Who can work the magic?

Point taken! as I said I was busy on several African languages for one book, deadline Sunday so I apologise for not updating the people who are so ready for giving there help and advice.
The truth is I hit 'Alt s' (on a mac CS5) one keystroke and there it was! copy and paste into 'Find and replace you get 'ß'
But the publisher had supplied the various variations required in some languages in the Glyphs pallet and I do not know what happened to make this work.
Any body know?

I don't know why this is so difficult for me, but I still haven't been able to accomplish the layer concept.
I made a blank canvas (call it "Canvas").
I then opened the Layer screen and it showed the Canvas as the "Background".
Next, I opened a photo (call it "Flower") and made it a small size to easily fit the canvas and made it the same resolution as the Canvas.
Now, here is where I cannot understand what is happening. If I click on the "Flower" photo to drag it onto the canvas, the Background layer immediately changes from the canvas and shows the Flower photo. But, it still says "Background". No other layer AUTOMATICALLY happens. The only way I can change it to another layer is by right clicking on the Flower and the Layer option comes up giving me the ability to name it another Layer (say, Layer 1). However, doing this still does not show 2 layers in the Layer palette. All of the options such as "Group" and "Ungroup" are all greyed out.
Another thing I tried to make a layer is double clicking on the lock on the right side of the Background layer. This opened a new layer which WAS separated from backgound layer and had a new layer number. The problem here was that the Flower image was not here. It was blank.
I don't know if I am clear in my description, but I seemed to sense from the discussions of Old Toad and yours that new layers should be created simply by dragging and dropping images into the canvas labeled "Background". In other words, I cannot create individual layers with one being background (canvas), two being Flower, etc. Any idea what I am doing wrong? Maybe I am making the canvas incorrectly?

How to make a special 3D effect in a font

I am trying to put a special 3D effect on a font. I don't know how describe it, thus here is a link where you can see it:

I already know that the font is Agency FB. I don't care about the camouflage look or about the shadow. I'm just interested in the 3D effect. Can somebody tell me, how can I get this effect with Illustrator CS5?

As I (mis)understand it, you may:
1) Type>Create Outlines and Object> Ungroup;
2) Select all letters and Object>Path>Offset Path by a negative amount so you get the right width of the bevels between the inner and outer lettershapes;
3) Select the inner lettershapes, copy them, and hide the copies;
4) Select everything, change from fill to stroke, and Object>Compound Path>Release;
5) To rip the shapes apart, perform (the bare steps in the script/action James has made, see below):
5a) Select>Object>Direction Handles;
5b) Edit>Cut;
5c) Delete;
5d) Edit>Paste In Front;
6) To create the bevels, combine pairs of corresponding inner and outer paths (which formed segments of the inner and outer lettershapes):
6a) Select inner and outer path;
6b) Object>Path>Join;
6c) Select all and change from stroke to fill;
7) Show the copies of the inner lettershape paths hidden in 3).
Now you have all the parts as separate closed paths, and you can colour them as desired.
There may be less silly ways.

How to make keyboard do accent marks???

Ok. So I just got the Mavericks update. And now when I hold down a letter (in order to add an accent mark to it), it won't work anymore. Does anyone know how to fix this!?!? Because Apple sure doesn't. Please help

I have not moved to Mavericks, all my accents work as before using the option key, so if it has changed, try posting this in the Mavericks or I guess it is this one

All the things I have done in the past, previous to Mavericks have worked as normal with the option key and a mod key.
Like I mentioned before I do not as of yet have Mavericks. so I can not advise you in any certainty.

How to make a special sort?

Dear all,
I have suddently some business rules and I need some suggestions.
Assume I have a list made of "foo1", "foo2" and "big.foo1", "big.foo2", and "java.big.foo1", "c.big.foo2".
Or a list made of word or words seperated by dot.
Now I want to order them such that number of words is significant. i.e.
"foo1", "foo2", "big.foo1", "big.foo2", "java.big.foo1", "c.big.foo2".
For the same number of words, I don't care their order.

I have a xHarbour DOS Client program that reads, shows in the screen, and write "perfectly fine" a text with Brazilian accentuation stored in a CLOB field.

In order to my xHarbour DOS Client program works fine with this Brazilian accented characters, I must to set:
SET NLS_LANG=PORTUGUESE_BRAZIL.WE8MSWIN1252
And all is OK from my xHarbour DOS Client program.
My problem is because when I query this data manually using a SELECT from any client DOS/WINDOWS program like SQLPLUS, SQLDEVELOPER, TOAD, etc, I get bad characters instead the correct Brazilian accented characters.

Insert your font with SE73.
Then set in sapscript with paragraph or character format so that yoyur charracter is printed with the font you wanted.

How to make a stationery out of .doc or .docx file?

Hi,
I stumbled upon a website that has some nice stationery, in .doc format. and since there few free pre made stationery available for Mail.app, at least to my knowledge, because I think I almost downloaded every free stationery available out there that could be easily found via Google. I decided to download some of these .doc stationeries and try to put them in Mail.app, but first I had to convert them into .html format. so here is what I've already tried and did not work:
first I tried opening them in TextEdit, which supports .doc out of the box, only to find out that the pictures in the documents are gone to thin air. I tried saving it and then opening it with something else like Open Office, but the pictures were permanently gone.
then I tried opening the original documents directly in Open Office, you guessed right If you said they will look screwed, and they were, and tried to save them as html, they were screwed even more.
so I did a bit of research and found out that I could use Google Docs in order to convert the documents, I uploaded them into my Google docs and then tried to open them with it, but found it that Google docs can't handle the pictures (specially background pictures) either. as a result I did more searching to find a document converter and here is what I found:

http://www.freefileconvert.com/ was pretty good to convert the files into an .odt format. at first I thought yes I got the solution, now I can simply convert it to html using Open Office, but unfortunately, when I saved the document in html format and checked it in Safari to see how does it look, as If I would have done the same in MS Office with the original format, it looked pretty much screwed .
So I continued to look and I found a few other online services one of them asked me to pay a fee, I skipped to the other one which was http://docx-converter.com/. unfortunately the website wasn't functioning properly I think, at least for me (maybe someone out there has succeeded using it, I don't know.) and it didn't send me anything.
Finally I found http://www.zamzar.com/ that could convert .doc or .docx documents into html, or at least that is what it claims to do so, I tried it, and after I received the file via email, I found out it only contains a bmp image of the document's background. So much for the online conversion services!
But I decided I would give it a last shot using MS Office online, so I opened up my old Windows Live mail and went into my Skydrive, I uploaded the documents and tried saving it as html, but there were no save as html (after all an online copy of MS Office should have some limitations, otherwise few people will be willing to buy a Desktop version) but this didn't made me disappointed, since I already knew, that Neither Office Word can make a clear conversion, so I tried something different, while I was in Safari looking at the document in online MS office, I saved the page as Web Archives, then I opened the file with TextEdit, and after deleting useless links and pictures, I finally managed to get a clear document with everything that supposed to be in it. At this point I only need to know how to make use of this document to create a stationery with this raw file which is in Web Archive format. any ideas?

I'm a total idiot! How did I overlook http://www.zamzar.com/ functions? I think I might have mistakenly chosen convert to BMP instead of html. I tried it and the result was very good.
OK I finally found a good solution for this problem, so everyone out there that has the same problem, here is what I did:
1. OK if you have some .doc and .docx file formats and you want to convert them into something like .html or .odt, without having to reedit the code or getting a screwed document, use http://www.freefileconvert.com/ in order to convert them into .odt so they would look as they do in MS office just go to the website and upload your documents then choose .odt, then click convert, after a few moments you will get a link to download your .odt files. you can use and play around with your document in Open Office, I have tested it and it's really good.
2. Or if you want to convert them into .html with a clean code, and all the elements in it, simply go to http://www.zamzar.com/ and then ulpoad your documents, choose .html and enter your email address, you will have your .html files zipped and sent right in your inbox, then you could use Kompozer like me, or any other html editor, to make a template out of it. I tried it and the result was nice, now I have a bunch of nice html files that I can use to make templates and email stationery.

How to make project across two DVDs with one DVD menu

I’m working on a large project (3 hours of video with about 10 chapters, over 50 pictures in a playlist, and special feature chapter) and wondering is it possible to make an project across 2 or more DVDs, but to have menu only on first one? I’d like to make an project that comes with menu only on first DVD and when you click on e.g. “special features” button, then you get the message “please insert DVD 2″

Yes, you are right! People just don't want to read, but I'm making an animated menu in AE and it'll take about 300MB (rendered in .mpg). That is what I want to avoid on other DVDs to save some space. You just gave me an idea so I'll make some small menu for other one or two DVDs with just a few informations about what DVD is inserted and what DVD you need to insert if you want to watch something else from that project. Digital Signature Text is too big, how to make it take up less room?

I added a digital signature to a PDF and part of it is a real handwritten signature. The digital signature text was also added but it is taking up too much room on the signature line. I would like to make the real signature large and the text part of the digital signature smaller. I cannot seem to find oout how to make this happen. Is it possible? If so, can someone please supply the steps?

I've got tiger in ok, running fine - bought family pack and have done 3 installs without problem, so that's the good news ....
I did a major reshuffle and toss-out of files before I installed - bought 80gb mobile external hard drive - and did install with 5+gb free, so after it had about 3gb free, then all of a sudden I went down to less than 1gb
I've been in a hunt for more files to throw out (a nice find were the old ipod updaters that were eating 500mb) ....
If I want to throw out most of the language files (for instance) ... where are they ? (I did search for danois and found nothing, so .... buried ?)
any other suggestions for things to throw away .... I've pretty much eliminated 90% of all things classic, for instance ....
and - do you have ideas for why space seems to disappear so fast .... I'm not doing anything special, but wham, 2gb flies away to ???

Function Modules
Function modules are procedures that are defined in special ABAP programs only, so-called function groups, but can be called from all ABAP programs. Function groups act as containers for function modules that logically belong together. You create function groups and function modules in the ABAP Workbench using the Function Builder.
Function modules allow you to encapsulate and reuse global functions in the SAP System. They are managed in a central function library. The SAP System contains several predefined functions modules that can be called from any ABAP program. Function modules also play an important role during updating and in interaction between different SAP systems, or between SAP systems and remote systems through remote communications.
Unlike subroutines, you do not define function modules in the source code of your program. Instead, you use the Function Builder. The actual ABAP interface definition remains hidden from the programmer. You can define the input parameters of a function module as optional. You can also assign default values to them. Function modules also support exception handling. This allows you to catch certain errors while the function module is running. You can test function modules without having to include them in a program using the Function Builder.
The Function Builder also has a release process for function modules. This ensures that incompatible changes cannot be made to any function modules that have already been released. This applies particularly to the interface. Programs that use a released function module will not cease to work if the function module is changed.

You can execute function module in SE37ie you can perform the activiites defined in the function module by executing it.
By deleting BOM you mention the FM name in se37 and execute. In some function module it will ask input parameters as developed in the program , you have to give the input parameters and execute.

How to make multi-box fields for name or address in a PDF form to be filled in?

I would like to know how to make fields for name and address in a PDF form.
I am now using Acrobat 8 Pro on Windows Vista. I have downloaded a form in the format of a PDF file. Basically it is just a file holding images of pages of the document, and there are no fields for me to type something on it using computer. This form will be used frequently by me, but I don't want to print it out and fill it in every time by hand. I want to fill it in in the computer and print copies of it when needed. The output will then be much more neat and tidy.
I have seen PDF forms with blanks for typing name and address, which means the form can be filled in on the computer before printing. They are special, as these blanks allow users to type name and address with every character occupying a box in the field, which consists of ten boxes or so. These are not ordinary textfields. I want to make similar inputting field as well.
Does anyone knows something about making these input fields with each character using 1 little box in the multi-box field? Any ideas are appreciated.

How to make a pdf editable and save for print

Hi,
I just joined Adobe Cloud and it's been a while since I have used acrobat. I have made a brochure that I need a couple of things to be editable on. See below. I need the two areas highlighted in red to be editable for different locales/people. My questions are:
A) I assume Acrobat is the way to do this. I also have FormsCentral if that works better. Can someone tell me how to make these two fields editable?
B) What program do they edit with? Acrobat Reader?
C) How do they save and output it for print?

This is not about what Acrobat can or can't do - and you just said they won't have it anyway. It's about the limitations of PDF. A proper solution is to develop (at some expense) a server side PDF generator that takes the user's input and makes them a custom PDF. I don't know if you can just subscribe to a service to do this. If you aren't going to have them use Acrobat, form fields are your only option. Be sure they (and you) understand the limitations and that they must use Reader (not one of the many other PDF viewers). Be sure you understand about reader enabling: many versions of Reader CANNOT SAVE filled in files unless they are specially prepared.
So back to your original question: how do you make the fields editable: with the Forms function in Acrobat. You may have better luck in the Acrobat Forms forum.
