How to make a spot chanel in photoshop

Hi,
I need to create a two color photoshop ad (black and PMS 304) and the colors have to be separated out. Need to make a spot chanel for the PMS 304. Can anyone please tell me how to do it.

How to correctly use spot colours in Photoshop?

Hi,
Using CS2, I've created one of those swooshy Macintosh Panther wallpaper images, with various layers of sweeping lines and tinted gradient arcs.
Now I want to create the image using just tints of pantone 519 but I'm unsure of how to work with pantone colours in photoshop. I've pulled up the solid coated pantone library and located the swatch, but how do I specify various tints of this colour?
I've searched the forum and come across spot channels, and have read the photoshop help entry on this, but still can't understand how to do it. From what I've read, I make a selection, then create a spot channel of the colour and set the solidity to 100%. If I want an 80% tint, I just adjust the solidity to 80%. Is this correct, or is the solidity more like transparency than tint?
In addition, how do I create a gradient between these two colours?
Final question - I have an element I want to import from Illustrator that uses the same spot colour. Do I have to deal with this any differently to the normal copy and paste as a smart object?

Why not just mode grayscale (or better yet a black and white adjustment layer, then mode grayscale), adjust levels, new spot channel, move dot from gray channel to spot channel? If it was made in RGB 519, your green channel is probably best to make the move to grayscale. If you're working in CMYK, then the magenta channel (unless of course you're using pictures with UCR/GCR).
 
 I guess I don't understand how you can say "I'll set it up best in CMYK" but can't get it to one color.
 
 Here's the tut version using the green channel only. If you do some channel mixing, I'm sure you could get something a little nicer.

How to make an icon image using Photoshop

I found out how to do this recently so I decided that I wanted to make a tut for those who don't know how to make an icon image. This icon image is for the libraries tab on your computer. Under the libararies tab there is Music, Pictures, Documents, and Photos
First you will need the ICO (Icon image format) Format extension for photoshop which can be downloaded here:

Once you have that all set you can now launch photoshop to create your icon image. Once you have launched it, create a new document with the size as in the image below.

Create the image you want. I used a simple one by using the custom shape tool by pressing "U" on your keyboard and with the
basic blending options.

The reason why the image is pixelated is because it is an icon image. Since the image is only 256x256 pixels when you zoom in on it that will get you the pixely result. The reason why I zoomed in is so you can see it. But don't worry this is no the end result. Just continue reading and you will see.
So once you have created the icon go ahead and press
file>save as>(under format choose the ICO)>and choose the name that you want to name it. And save it in your C: drive. You will see why to save it in your C: drive in a sec.

So now that you have created the icon and saved it now you can create the new library.

Name the library whatever you want I named it "Sample" for tutorial purposes. Notice how it gives you a default boring icon image for your library.

So now once you have created and named your library now it is time to get the icon image into place.
Go to computer/c: Drive/users/YOU/ And now once you have reached this area you will need to access a hidden folder named "appdata" to do so press "Alt" then a menu bar will show. Click
tools>folder options>and view. Find the option to view hidden folders then press apply then ok. Now we shall continue so AppData>Roaming>Microsoft>Windows>Libraries
Now you should see all the libraries including the one you just created.

Once you have reached your destination then open a new text document with notepad and drag the library you just created in notepad. The result should look like this:

once you have reached this point click at the end of the second to last line down then press enter and enter in this information

Once you have entered that information go to file>save and the icon image should appear on the library you created.

It is Windows only because all those screen shots are exclusively Windows, the file structure and paths do not resemble those of the Mac in the least. As a Mac user, there's nothing I could take from your tutorial. Sorry,
No drives named with letters like C: on the Mac, for instance. No backward slashes either, ever. No such paths either. No "Notepad" on the Mac, we use TextEdit; but such a text editor is not remotely needed on the Mac to make and/or edit icons. Etc.
Those folders are not even called "Libraries" on the Mac… Nothing resembling your tutorial at all.
The icons in the Finder's Sidebar are not customizable at all in recent version of OS X.

How to make a spot swatch with specific name by using AppleScript?

I am trying to create a script in AppleScript to make a new spot color swatch that must be the COLOR TYPE : SPOT (with specific values). I've got it to make a global process color but can't seem to make a spot swatch. I'm using the script below :

You are close but missing the last property listed in the JavaScript… It translates to… 'color type:spot color'

BTW… The use of JavaScript in the CS apps is more common because of its 'platform independence' There is a toolkit supplied along with the CS install.

How to make a "plaid" pattern in photoshop

I've seen the method they use in Photoshop Elements, by using the marquis tool to select a sliver of a photograph and pulling with the Move tool to stretch it to the length of the page. How can we do this in Photoshop since the move tool seems to have a different application.

I think there is something I'm doing wrong in the "layer" part of things. As I say, when I bring this image into Illustrator, I can grab and pull (I would assume it rasterizes the image) but no problem in Illustrator, Just can't make it happen in Photoshop. Am at work now, so I'll open your suggestion when I get home and try again. thank you for the feedback.

After suffering many crashes and terrible performance of Photoshop CS4, I want to switch back to Photoshop CS3. But there is one thing that holds me - Bridge CS4 is so damn good, that I still want to continue using it. Unfortunately, Bridge CS4 doesn't have the Automation scripts that use Photoshop CS3, it only can run them with Photoshop CS4... If I remove Photoshop CS4, the Automation menu just disappears from the Tools menu in Bridge
Please help, is there any way I can run those Batch automations on from Bridge CS4 on Photoshop cs3? I'm not a programmer, so please be more clear, if it involves altering some files...

There's a lot implied here, but you're not going to get around having to do the following in general:
Use an unmarked map as a background.
Draw shapes on layer(s) above the background and make them partially transparent.
Obviously the key is to draw shapes that express the "cone of uncertainty" exactly as you want it to look, and with a minimum of fuss.
I'd suggest drawing shapes with Path tools, then filling the shapes, applying a stroke (for the edge border), and using masking to hide parts you don't want to show (or which overlap with the other parts you're drawing).
Are you needing to do this over and over or just once?

How do you make a 3d octagon in photoshop cs4 extended?

How do you make a 3d octagon in photoshop cs4 extended that you can map artwork to? I've been searched online for a solution that doesn't involve using a 3D program but can't find anything. Can't you extrude a shape like in Illustrator, or exporta true 3D shape from Illustrator that will work? I'd use Illustrator but the mapping thing is finicky, and doesn't alow wrapping images around angles. (now someones going to say: "Don't mention any other programs in a PHotoshop forum!" Yeah yeah, there should be a forum then about using different Adobe programs together.) End of rant, any suggestions much appreciated.

It turns out that I got a message that this update had already been installed, which led me to more carefully look at the Bridge window and (finally) see that the Output module had a Quality dropdown: Full, 300 ppi, 150 ppi, 96 ppi and 72 ppi. Thanks! I decided to compare the CS4/Bridge results to those I got in CS2 with its convenient File/Automate/PDF Presentation/Multi-Page Document routine that I like.
My project was an 8-page PDF made from scanned pages of handwritten notes into which some fairly small type had been insert using the Photoshop CS2 Type tool. In Photoshop CS2, I had settled on "medium quality" JPEG compression as giving a "reasonable" file size (about 7 MB) and "very good/excellent" image quality. I experimented with making the PDF in Bridge, using all five Quality levels. See table below. The Bridge "good minus" file was about the same size as the file produced in CS2, which I judged to be "very good/excellent" and slightly better visually than the 300-ppi, 23.5-MB Bridge file.

I appreciate that you may not be all that interested in these observations, but it seems to me that Adobe has done us no favors in the multi-page PDF department in going from CS2 to CS4!

I had already done this some time ago, in order to get in CS4 the File/Automate/Contact Sheet II feature I liked in CS2. It does not appear to me that this plug-in has anything to do with make multi-page PDF's. Perhaps I'm missing something.
