How to make a VR html file autoplay via the Web Content overlay

Hello,
We have created a VR using Object2VR and have loaded the .html file via the Web Content Overlay panel in InDesign CS5.5.
We want this VR to play automatically on page load, so we have checked the box 'aut play' in the Web Content overlay panel, but it won't play automatically.
We've tried switching the auto play off in Object 2VR and switching it on in the Web Content overlay and vice versa and also with both on, but still we cannot get it to autoplay.
Any suggestions? Is this a bug?

DPS is no longer supported in 5.5 you need Indesign 6 or Creative Cloud.
Set you auto play delay for the web overlay to something other than zero seconds, 0.125 works, if it is set to zero seconds. Leave the auto play enabled for the VR.

CF Ajax - how to make a small form 'pop up' over the existing content

hi. i have a standard html form with quite a few elements
(selects, radio buttons, input fields, text areas etc)
some users will need the ability to supply additional data
but i only want the fields for this additional data to appear upon
request (to keep the form clean looking for the majority of users)
i want to make it when users click on an "add more detail"
button then the screen goes 'greyed out' and a new form appears
roughly 350px x 350px centred on their screens. ive seen this done
quite a lot recently and was just about to google javascript
tutorials to get started, then it occured to me i may be able to
utilise cf8's ajax tags to achieve this (which would be handy as i
really struggle with anything other than v basic javascript)
my requirements are:
1 button (or link) in my standard form that launches the
'more detail' form in a ?layer? over the top of the existing
content
2 when this happens the existing content is 'greyed out'
preventing uses from interracting with it until they either
complete this new form (or click the close button in that new form)
3 this form is to contain 2 text inputs and a submit button
4 i want to pass the data from this form back to the original
form when it is submitted (temporarily storing the data in hidden
fields within the original form) and will then ultimately pass this
back to the server when the original form is submitted
does anyone know if cfajax can help me with this (i dont need
the asynchronous server interaction stuff ajax offers only the
javascript to make my form pop up etc)
if not does anyone know what this behaviour is commonly
termed so i can google for it

Pdf files printing via the web

sorry incase i missed the obvious, but so far i couldn't find any infos on that topic:
is it possible to hand over dde commands over the web?
eg, instead of having a standard pdf link, hand over some ddes with it?

Autoplay on page load doesn't work in Web content overlays

I would like an audio file to play in a web content overlay and can't manage to make it play automatically when page loads. Because of different complications I can use neither the html-stack nor the audio overlay in Indesign. When I test the html file used in the web content overlay in safari on my computer it works but not inside the app.
I have also set the frame with the web content in indesign to "autoplay" in the overlay creator. This makes the audioplayer in the web content overlay visible on the page, but you still have to push the play button to start the music.
Has anybody had the same problem and solved it?

Apple does not allow autoplay within HTML, to avoid high data costs. There
might be a workaround using javascript, but you need to search for it.

Does anyone know what should go inside of "URL or File" field for the Web Content overlay if I need file from the HTMLResources.zip?
DPS documentation is very unclear/confusing (e.g. there is no ".html" at the end):
For the file inside of HTMLResources.zip with this path:
HTMLResources.zip/Cartoons/train1.html

Web Content overlays are nested two levels deeper than an HTML article. Example:

I'm getting an error "File URL for web content is missing or does not exist" if I enter this inside of the "URL or File" field:
../../../HTMLResources/Cartoons/train1

Update to the text below: I just realized that documentation explains how to call some file from the HTML content of the Web Content Overlay, not how to get the HTML content inside the Web Content Overlay. I can probably do redirect to the train1.html from plain HTML code inserted into Web Content Overlay. So there is no way to use link to the file as for the http://webServerPath/Cartoons/train1.html?
We have 1 html file that uses 1 image file, both files inside the folder inside HTMLResources.zip and I need to display that html, so:
HTMLResources.zip/Cartoons/train1.html
HTMLResources.zip/Cartoons/train1.png - referenced inside train1.html
If I use http URL, e.g.
http://webServerPath/Cartoons/train1.html
then everything works, if I try to set that URL to the HTMLResources:
../../../HTMLResources/Cartoons/train1
or
../../../HTMLResources/Cartoons/train1.html
I'm getting an error, even documentation explains what link should be used.
Workaround when we just use the local HTML folder also works.

HTML Web Content overlay - Android

Hey guys,
I am having an issue with a HTML Web Content overly swipe gallery with Native Android viewer.
The overlay is the second state of a MSO. The HTML is working as it should, but the 'close' button on the the second state that should make the MSO go to the first state doesn't work.
It is like the web content overlay is sitting on top of the DPS button. Everything is working in iOS.
Any ideas or known issues with Native Android viewer and HTML overlays???

You'll need to look at alternative solutions on Android if you want to get content out now. It's not an easy change to make due to the nature of HTML on Android and will take us some time to figure out what to do, or if it's even possible to resolve.

Short of dismantling and recreating a page how do i find out whats causing [Error: Invalid URL for Web Content Overlay]

Hi,
i received an indesign file to include in a folio that had links to the creators desktop where they had the assets for the web content overlay. When i try to update the folio i get the error message:
"Content generation error.
[Error: Invalid URL for Web Content Overlay]"
Which is fair enough.
The problem is, i have gone through and changed all URLs that I can see, but there is one somewhere, that I just can't find.
Is there a way to get a list of all web content overlays in a particular file? otherwise i will need to recreate the whole page again, and it has some pretty complex interactions which i rather wouldn't do.
I also cannot ask the original doc creator to just change the links as i'm sure he'll have the same issues as me, at not being able to track down the erroneous link.
The problem I have with DPS is that its not very transparent. you'll have to click on everything, and into every group to see what actions are on it, which can be extremely time consuming and frustrating when complex interactions are included.

I’ve found watching the process helpful to narrow down the page.
Working off a duplicate of the file, delete one layer at a time until you figure out what layer the problem is on.
From there it’s a bit easier to narrow down.

How to read a text/html file in java regardless of its encoding?
1. Is there any way to identify that a file (read using FileInputStream/or any other means with java.io package) has been saved with which type of encoding i.e. whether the file is using ANSI encoding or Unicode encoding or other?
2. Is there any standard way to read an encoded file (i.e. files having UTF-16 format for Asian locales character support) and un-encoded file (i.e. files having ordinary ANSI format) correctly without knowing the user input?
The problem is that while creating an instance of 'InputStreamReader' (ISR) we can pass the encoding type used (otherwise it takes the system's default encoding type), and the ISR expects the file to be in the same encoding format otherwise it reads it as some junk. But we don't know which file the user is going to pass whether it is Unicode (for Asian locales file should be in Unicode) with or ANSI coded (for non-Asian / English locales user generally uses ANSI encoding).

1. There is no reliable way of guessing the encoding of a file without that information. Thats why XML for example has very strict rules wrt. it's encoding (short form: use UTF-8 or UTF-16, if you use anything else, you'll have to specify it)
2. you might be able to make an educated guess if the possible range of encodings is limited, but it will probably never be 100% certain
3. The HTML file might have a header entry "<meta http-equiv..." that tells you about it's encoding. You could try to read the start of the file and see if you find that, then if you found it re-read the entire file.

What app have you used to create your ibook? Normally any app will have a menu item like File > Export that will give you the option of PDF, or you can use Print and there will be an option in the Print dialogue to Print to PDF.

With Flash, you can't do this.
Just with FlashBuilder and Air (something like HTMLLoader , not sure now)
I mean loading in a movieclip..
Of course you can open a page to display in a browser.

If I open the file with a specific computer, I have to conect the path of the remote machine, but if I don´t know which remote computer is going to run the aplication, how can I do it?)?

first you have to know progammatically the name of the remote pc connected to your server: this is a problem!
I did not find a straigth way, LV 6.1 doesn't allow much progammatic control on the remote panel connection feature, but I'm confident that in the next LV version this will be improved!
The point is that the Remote Panel Connection Manager (from the Tools menu) has all the informations about the connection: client name, server vi and whatever.
This application is embedded in the \PROJECT\REMOTEPANEL.LLB and consists of a set of password protected vis.
So here's the trick: use VIServer to grab data from the rpcm Get Server Data.vi when the Remote Panel Connection Manager is in run mode. By this you get all the informations (not only client name)o
f the remote panel connection. See my example.
By the way use client machine name to build the file dialog function input path.
If anybody has an alternative method it would be more than appreciated to share it.

I have designed a "website" in adobe muse and exported it as an html file. I am not sure how to send my .html file in an email!

Unfortunately, the answer is, you don't. The requirements for HTML displayed in an e-mail reader are very different than those for HTML displayed in a browser. The output of Muse won't work as an HTML e-mail. You could upload the Muse site as a website and provide a link to it in an e-mail, but the HTML generated by Muse is not suitable for direct display by an e-mail program.
