How to Make an External DVD Burner the Default

When I click "Burn" I'd like it to use my external burner instead of the built-in one. Is there a way to change the default burner? I was unable to figure out how.
The reason is because the PowerMac is located remotely from my station in a machine room, but the external burner is right next to me.

If you leave a CD, DVD, or some disc with data, in the internal drive, it should then use the external drive for burning. If you use good blank discs, such as Verbatim, there should be no reason to reduce the burning speed.

  • How to Make a 1 DVD with the content of 2 DVD's?

I have a project that rquires to re-edit the content of 1 DVD to spanish, and also add the original English DVD material into this new DVD, how do I create 1 DVD from my normal Encore project and and the other files from the English Version Disc, which by the way has links, PDF's, and Ineractual Player Auto Start stuff. I'm using Encore CS3, but I just downloaded CS4 on a PC XP. Thanks for your help.

Thanks for the reply. I'll respond to your questions...
I have a DVD (movie not ROM) with a 30 minute safety video in English. The DVD has an incredible amount of links that go from one menu to another to another, it's the most confusing and elaborate menu/chapter I've ever seen, well my customer wants me to translate it into Spanish, but now he told me he wants the English AND Spanish version to be in one disc. That's the problem. I can capture the movie. I can translate the script and do the Spanish voice over (just like in the old karate movies) I can create the new menu pages in Spanish and I can create the intricate links, so what do I do with the English version? I can't create the whole English version again, more like I don't want to is there another easier option?
Once I create the new Spanish project using Encore CS4 I don't know how to prompt Encore to attach the English DVD content with all the functionality of menus, chapters and links. I can attach movies, assets, etc. Can I attach anything else? This is what the DVD has inside:

  • How to make PS CC -- not CC2014 -- the default for 'Edit in' in Lr?

When I installed Ps CC2014 I had problems with it, and so uninstalled it.   I might reinstall it in order to get familiar with it.  But until certain panels have been converted to work in CC2014, CC will remain my 'go to' pixel editor.  With that in mind, I would want Ps CC to remain the default version of Ps when I select 'Edit in' in Lr 5.5.  However during the brief time I had CC 2014 installed, CC2014 replaced CC (which was still installed on my computer) as the version that Lr passed images to when I selected 'Edit in'.  Is there some way that Lr can be 'made' to think CC is the version it should pass files to even if CC2014 is also installed on my computer?
    Thanks for your help.

    David

    Quote:
If CC and CC 2014 are both installed on your computer. CC 2014 will be the default edit-in app, this is as design. You can add CC as additional External Editor, but cannot set it as default one. If you want to make CC as the default one, you need to uninstall CC 2014.
That's what I was afraid of, hence I have removed CC2014 from my computer.  There are a couple of panels I use which won't work in CC2014, hence I would continue to use CC in any event.  But if both are installed and CC2014 is the default, then to use CC as an external editor, I would have to render the image, who I not?

  • How to make a NTSC DVD for the USA

I want to put some movies on a DVD for some relatives to play on their DVD player in USA which uses NTSC I believe.
How do I convert my PAL footage to play on their machine in iDVD6?

    Hi Alexander
Two ways. One bad and one very good.
    • Burn a NTSC-project in iDVD - BAD AND LOSY QUALITY
    • Open Your movie in JES_Deinterlacer - Google it - it's free and let it convert Your PAL (25fps) project
to NTSC (29.97fps) then start a new iDVD NTSC-project and drop this new converted movie into
    this.
This should be enough - BUT You can do more.
    • Now Save as a DiskImage to eg Desktop
    • Burn this by Apple Disk Util tool or Toast™ - AT AN AS SLOW speed as possible eg x1, x2 or x4
    • Burn it on high quality media: I use Verbatim DVDs
    • Use DVD-R (not +R or +/-RW)
Doing the last steps gives a DVD that has less writing errors = Can be played on more types of player
eg. stand alone DVD-player or PCs
Yours - HAVE TESTED THIS and got a very good result - confirmed from US: Bengt W

  • Preview: How to make "Rotate without modifying contents" the default?

In Snow Leopard, the Preview application finally learned to modify the orientation of JPEG images by simply adjusting the orientation tag in the EXIF headers and (unlike previous versions) without touching the rest of the data at all. To use this feature, you have to rotate an image to the correct orientation, select "Save As" and then check the "Rotate without modifying contents" option before you click on the Save button.
Unfortunately this option does not seem to stick (I have to check the box again every time) and it is not used when you select "Save" or "Save All" instead of "Save As". So if you want to browse and rotate a large number of photos from a camera without an orientation sensor, you have to repeat the procedure above for every single shot taken in portrait orientation, or otherwise Preview will re-encode the rotated images at an arbitrarily chosen compression ratio and thus degrade their image quality.
Is there any way to make Preview
    a) keep the option selected and, more importantly,
    b) use it by default when selecting "Save" and "Save All" as well?

    B.  Associate the Rotate Canvas dialog box with a keyboard shortcut so even if it won't stay open I won't have to fish thru the Image menu to get it each time.
I'm not really sure if this is documented but you can navigate the entire menu using the keyboard. (I only have up to PSE 3 so I'm assuming it hasn't been stripped out of Elements yet.)
    Anyway...
On PC, press the alt key + I (for Image); the menu will pop up (notice there are underscores under one letter of each command--these only appear if you use the initial shortcut). The E is underlined in Rotate. Press E. The Rotate menu pops up. The C is underlined in Custom. Press C...rotation dialog will pop up.
    So Alt + I, then E, then C.
You can also input the number...if you desire changing rotation direction left to right hit TAB key (jumps to next field); then L or R which are underscored for left and right. Hit ENTER to accept or ESC to dismiss.
BTW, This menu navigation works for all the menus. You'll note there are two menus headed by F. The second one Filter will be alt + t.
Why is filter T? F was taken by file, I was taken by image, and L was taken by layers. The Organizer can also be navigated in this manner.
Edit: Some menu items will not have underscores but can still be done this way. They are easy enough to guess since you know they use letters in the word.  Example:  Unsharp mask. Press alt + T (to open filter menu); then S (for Sharpen); then right arrow key (opens the sharpen submenu); then U (for Unsharp Mask).
If on a mac, I believe you would substitute the opt key for the alt key.

i bough a new imac, this haven't dvd burner, i bought a external dvd burner but the imac havent a idvd and i need this program, no other one, how to download this and install?

    Hi
how to download this and install?
There are no free DownLoads !
There are no legal DownLoads at all !
If there is no iDVD on Your Mac (and it's not on newer Macs as Apple discarded it) then You need a program that can do this.
Your Mac can burn CDs and DVDs - BUT DVD as Data-DVDs not as Video-DVDs - they need a program to be encoded and STRUCTURED as such.
    • iDVD is part of the boxed version of iLife'11 and can only be bought outside Apple as on Amazon and e-bay
    • DVD Studio pro - Part of FinalCut Studio Pro bundle - this to has expired and can only be bought second handed. (High price and tough learning Curve - but best ever done.)
    • Roxio Toast™ - Not as elegant as iDVD - but has many other positive additions (I like it as 10-Pro incl BD-component) (now version 11)
    • Burn - only free alternative I know of on internet. Very simple - Just for doing a plain Video-DVD
    Burn http://www.digital-digest.com/software/Burn.html
only You can buy from Apple is
    • FinalCut Pro-X which also can burn to DVD but without any nice themes.
    AppleMan1958
You can also buy Compressor from Apple for $50 US. It will also create DVD and BluRay but without the nice themes.

  • Can I make my external firewire dvd burner the new second internal?

I have a lacie firewire 400 external dvd burner from a couple years ago. I just got a new macpro. Is it possible to remove the drive from that pretty aluminum enclosure and install it as the second optical in the tower? Could it be just that simple, or is it more complicated than that?
    Thanks,
    Josh

Sweet!! It worked. I set the new/old drive to cable select (by the way, that's what the factory sony was set as too), plugged everything in and it worked.
One thing to watch out for though...
When sliding the optical tray back into the tower, you have be careful not to get that ribbon cable snagged on anything. When I pulled mine out for the first time, I could tell that whoever (I'm looking at you apple manufacturer employee) slid it in originally, muffed up the ribbon cable a bit. It was twisted funny and creased like it was stuffed in there. There was some insulation scraped away also.
Not good I'm sure, but I got my drives in there and they are working. I shouldn't have to get in there again really though, so I'm not too worried.
Anywho, one less thing on the desk is great!

  • How to make content of DVD so that copies cannot be burned from it. uncopiable.

How to I format my DVD so that its content cannot be copied by others?

    Hi
You can't - or rather I can't - Only big companies as EMI, SONY etc can pay for that service.
So I made a small not on it.
    DVD Copy-protect
No there is non in standard iDVD.
The most common solution is to put a logo that stays on top of the full movie.
e.g.. Copyrighted to . Or made by etc.
Not even if You buy FinalCut Studio and get DVD-Studio Pro. You will not get this.
The Copy-protection in DVD-Studio Pro is just a flag set to alert DVD-producers
to make this in DVD-burning Companies.
There is such protections to Commercial materials and to astronomical costs.
And one can figure to what need, when there are no really secure Copy-protection.
One can only plead to respect the Copyrights

  • Choosing an external DVD burner all the time instead of the built in burner

I have the Superdrive but prefer to use the external DVD burner to save wear and tear on the Superdrive. When I pop in a blank DVD to burn, the drop down menu appears and I have to manually click on the external DVD burner. Is there something in the system preferences that I can click so that the external burner shows up and not the Super drive?

This is our resident iPhoto guru, Terence Devlin's, advice:
You can move your iPhoto Library to an external disk:
    1. Quit iPhoto
    2. Copy the iPhoto Library Folder as an entity from your Pictures Folder to the External Disk.
    3. Hold down the option (or alt) key while launching iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Choose Library' and navigate to the new location. From that point on this will be the default location of your library.
    4. Test the library and when you're sure all is well, trash the one on your internal HD to free up space.
Once that is done you can import directly into the iPhoto library on the external HD.

  • Adobe Elements catalog backup fails after 3 discs.  Message says something wrong with dvd writer.  I bought an external dvd burner and changed disc brands, still the same results.

Full backup of catalog stops after three discs.  I have changed disc brand and added a new external dvd burner but still get the same results.  What is wrong?

If you have the hard drive space, see if you can complete a back up to the hard drive instead. If that works successfully, it could be a buffer or caching issue with the burner. It could be running out of space because it is not clearing after each disk burn.

You will find internal optical drivers from OWC here. You will find external DVD burners from OWC here.
For the external drives, almost any Firewire burner will be supported by your PowerBook. Here are a few. You can further refine the filters.

  • Thinkpad X230 could not recognize external DVD burner

Hi, I received my Thinkpad X230 two weeks ago and was planning to make backup media.  However, X230 could not recognize my external DVD burner. It was not responding no matter which USB port I tried. The DVD burner works fine with my T400 and X201. Just want to know how to get X230 to work with the DVD burner so that I can make factory backup media. Thanks a lot!

    Hello,
Your external USB DVD±RW disc drive may require more power than can be provided via one USB port in order to burn DVDs.  Did the drive come with a "double-headed" Y-shaped USB cable to connect to two USB ports on the notebook?  If so, try plugging both of the large ends into the ThinkPad's USB ports and the small end into the external drive and then see if it is now recognized by the computer.

  • Can i use mac mini as external dvd burner for my ibook?

i was wondering if i could hook up my dad's mac mini to my ibook in target disk mode to my ibook and if that would allow me to use his mac mini as an external dvd burner. if anyone knows if this would work or how to do it, let me know, thanks

Yes and no. You cannot connect the mini to your notebook and use its drive as if it were an external drive. But you can transfer data from your notebook to the mini and then burn the DVD. And, if you can set up a VNC (that's what Leopard screen sharing is) you could even control the mini from your notebook. Not as transparent a process as having an external burner. And, considering the low prices these days, if you really need to burn DVDs rather frequently, buying an inexpensive DVD burner is going to be more convenient.
