How to make direct DVD-to-DVD copy?

I'm hoping this is easier than I'm making it. I work for a small theater that films every show in a weekend on 4 camera angles plus a multimedia feed. We record every angle directly to stand-alone DVD recorders (5 DVDs per show).
I get requests from the directors to view the shows each week, and up till now, i've been dutifully using Disk Utility to make an image file of the DVD to the hard drive, then burn a new blank DVD, but this process takes about 25 minutes for every show, not to mention the disk space, and increased requests are making this too time-consuming.
*I've got 2 DVD-writable drives; isn't there a way in OSX to directly copy a non-copy-protected DVD directly to another DVD? Wouldn't that be a big thing on the new Mac Pros that have 2 internal Superdrives? I tried doing it in Finder by copying one DVD and pasting it in the blank DVD, but that didn't work.*
If not, is there software anybody recommends? Nero for the PC does exactly what I want but doesn't come in Mac. I'm not sure if Roxio Toast does it, and I haven't found a demo of anything else that works... (tried Fast DVD Copy, but it won't stop "analyzing media" and "Aimersoft DVD Copy for Mac" doesn't download a file that my mac will open.)
Thanks for the assistance!

So far as I can tell (and the only thing that comes up in Disk Utility Help) is the method which requires an image file to be fully written to the Hard Drive and then burned to a blank DVD. I'm hoping to get that down to one step, DVD-to-DVD...
Any thoughts? It seems ludicrous to me that OSX would not have this ability natively.

  • How to make duplicates of a DVD-R I made?

    I have a new 24" iMac and am trying to make copies of a DVD I personally made. It's on a DVD-R disc and whenever I've tried making a burn file, or another file to copy it into from the DVD inserted in the machine it seems to be only copying an alias into the destination file. I would like to d/l this onto my hard drive so that I can burn copies as my customers order them - one of the primary reasons I upgraded from my older Mac.
    When I look at the "permissions" it says I have read-only permission which simply isn't true. I understand the net-wide concern over duplicating copyrighted material but that's not the case here. I personally made this instructional DVD and had it burned by a buddy with a Windows machine, then have been making copies regularly in batches at his house. I bought the iMac so I would have a machine powerful enough to do it myself. Anyhow, when I make copies with his machine I simply pop the master in one drive and a blank DVD into another drive and hit copy and it makes me another one.
    So. Clearly the problem here is that the iMac thinks I have only read-only permission. What to do?? For the record, I am the original creator of every scrap of this instructional video and I've sold nearly 50 of them already, so no funny business going on. If it matters, I also have a master in +R format but nobody's ever requested it.
    Thanks in advance,
    DougM

    Unfortunately, when I followed the link it states
    that will only work if the disc was made with iDVD or
    another program.
    That simply means you can't use the listed method to copy a copy-protected DVD.
    What the article has you do is use Apple's Disk Utility application to create a disk image as a 'master disc' that can be used with Disk Utility to make copies on a Mac. That's how it's done on a Mac.

  • How to make project across two DVDs with one DVD menu

    Hi!
    I’m working on a large project (3 hours of video with about 10 chapters, over 50 pictures in a playlist, and special feature chapter) and wondering is it possible to make an project across 2 or more DVDs, but to have menu only on first one? I’d like to make an project that comes with menu only on first DVD and when you click on e.g. “special features” button, then you get the message “please insert DVD 2″
    Is it possible and how to make something like that?
    Thank you!

    I would have EACH DVD begin with a menu. Somebody will insert DVD 2 first no matter how you label things.
    Yes, you are right! People just don't want to read, but I'm making an animated menu in AE and it'll take about 300MB (rendered in .mpg). That is what I want to avoid on other DVDs to save some space. You just gave me an idea so I'll make some small menu for other one or two DVDs with just a few informations about what DVD is inserted and what DVD you need to insert if you want to watch something else from that project. Thank you!
    I just have to learn better Encore and its capabilities and limitations (if I have time )

  • How to make a self-playing DVD from FCP project of 75 minute film.

    A Quicktime film has been made in Final Cut. It is about an hour and 15 minutes long. It needs to end up on a self-playing DVD.
    Maybe this is a question for the FCP boards (or for DVD SP, which I don't know well): What's the approach to get this project to DVD?---having it look best on the DVD. Are there compression best practices?

    Or you may be able to make a Kiosk mode DVD from a QT file / folder using iDVD. (btw ...I've done this successfully thru iDVD6 but I have not yet tried it under iDVD08):
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=4764361&#4764361
    Please note that this approach is the only way I know of to make a DVD (w/in iDVD) that plays by itself and with no menu whatsoever. Hence the DVD will always play in a continuous loop until you press stop or eject on the remote. Or if you prefer you can also use Roxio Toast which has a similar feature.

  • How to make High Quality HD DVDs from iMovie11 Toast 10 Titanium Pro?

    I was searching all over the net to find answers to a problem that I have with film making at home. I'm trying to become an Indie film maker on a small amount of money to start out, so to speak. I've asked Apple over and over for some help, but they say - we can't because we don't support third party solutions. I have iMovie 11 and iMovie HD 6. I use AVCHD 1080i camcorders and a GoPro HD Hero for time lapse shots. Toast 10 Titanium Pro and a external LaCie d2 Blu-ray Drive also external hard drives. I'm trying to make high quality HD dvd's and then Blu-ray disks later also for my ( high elevation mountain video) demos. Codec/compression - bit rate/data rate - key frame - sample rate and what software to use or not is all confusing me. I've tried and I'm still not making video that looks as good as it did when first imported into iMovie. Can anyone please help me out with this mater. Thank You Good Day

    Good FAQ type information [is at this link|http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2424451]
    In general, import to iMovie in FULL, not LARGE.
    Export from iMovie using the SHARE menu. Use the 1080P Preset. You can SHARE/iTUNES, SHARE/MEDIA BROWSER, SHARE/MOVIE..., or FILE/FINALIZE PROJECT. All will use the 1080P preset.
    You can also SHARE/EXPORT TO QUICKTIME, but I would not recommend it unless you know what you are doing.
    Drag this file into TOAST 10 with BluRay plugin.
    Check FILE/PROJECT PROPERTIES in TOAST to make sure you are burning at highest quality.

  • How to make direct selection handles visible against pasteboard?

    When I go to transform/resize images inside frames using the direct selection tool, I can't see the handles of the actual image because they are white against a white pasteboard.  I am using InDesign CS5 (ver 7.0.4) on a Mac. I have been using InDesign for a few years and never noticed this was a problem; all of a sudden, the handles seem invisble. I don't remember what the color scheme was before. (Maybe I am losing my mind). Did the colors change with an update? There is an option in preferences to select the color of the pasteboard, but this doesn't seem to have any effect. In the meantime, I can't find the handles to resize/transform images. I can input a percentage for scaling, but this is only useful sometimes. How do I make direct selection handles visible against the pasteboard?

    Not specifically a path. When I select an image in a layout with the selection tool, yes the frame border is the color of the layer. When I select the same image with the direct selection tool to see the full extent of the uncropped image, the border of the image is white with white handles. Since my pasteboard is white, I can't see the image border when it extends off my color layout and onto the pasteboard.

  • How to make copies of existing DVD's

    I have a iMac 21.5 with OS 10.6.8. Many people send me DVD's that have been created on their PC's. These files ARE NOT COPYRIGHT and are mainly old record files of events. Some are copies of home movies that have been created from VHS to 2 hour DVD's. I don't want to download to my harddrive, and then copy if possible.
    Some are still vintage photo files, again NOT COPYRIGHTED, but large size.
    I can read and see all, and now want to share the same with my comments added. HOW DO I MAKE A COPY OF THESE DVD'S directly to a new DVD so I can send on to other friends?
    Do I need to buy a DVD BURNER so I can copy the data to new DVD's and DVD-R's?
    Same question for large photo files that I have received in a memory stick format. Thank you.
    JIM GESSNER

    Are these videos copyrighted?
    Just kidding, no one here would ever assume otherwise.
    1. Insert the DVD/CD;
    2. Open Disk Utility, and select the DVD/CD from the left side list (select the DVD/CD icon on top);
    3. from the DU File menu select New | Disk Image from Disk 1;
    4. Choose to format the disk image as DVD/CD Master, name the disk image and click Save;
    5. When the .cdr file is finished select it with mouse and press COMMAND-I to open the Get Info and check the box to lock the file;
    6. Choose the .cdr file from the left side list, click Burn, and insert a new, blank DVD or CD.

  • How to print direct onto CD/DVD using HP PhotoSmart C5280 printer?

    Hi,
    I have spent my day attempting to find suitable software to design and print DVD covers direct onto the printable DVD surface.
    My HP PhotoSmart C5280 printer has the ability to load DVD/CD into it for printing directly.
    I have tried using the HP PhotoSmart Studio software and iWinSoft Label Maker but haven't paid for it yet as I can't get it to print on the actual DVD.
    They both try to print and look and sound as if they are printing but no ink ends up on the disc.  I have genuine HP cartridges and high quality printable DVDs.
    If anyone can help me I would really appreciate it as I need to print personalised covers on my wedding DVDs for the guests and get them sent out for Christmas!
    I don't really want to spend more than £20 and preferably nothing of course!
    Thanks in advance,
    Bradders

    Hi,
    To print from your ipad, both the printer and ipad must be connected to the same wifi network. Once this happens, when you select the print option you'll see your printer.

  • How to make a Recovery Image DVD for my Satellite A200-1GB?

    Hi Experts,
    As I have wrote before I divided my HDD 2nd partitions in to 2partitions.
    Now I want to make a recovery DVD except the manufacturer provided DVD.
    The reason I want that is the USER MANUAL says when we are restoring by the manufacturer Provided DVD it will FORMAT all the Partitions and revert the HDD to original state (When it come it has two partitions).
    So now I'm trying to make a Recovery DVD to recover the notebook with out FORMATTING the second partitions.
    I just want to format only the C drive and install the Vista OS and other manufacturer provided software.
    Then the other drives will be safe and the data on those partitions will be safe.
    I kindly request you to help me on this.
    It's better if anybody can give me the instructions for that operation.
    Thanks !!!! :8}

    Hello
    It is pretty easy but you need right and Vista compatible program. I use WXP Norton Ghost but on this page you can find useful info about latest and Vista compatible version.
    I will obtain the same for me. It is very good program and I can really recommend Norton Ghost.

  • How to make file playable on DVD-player

    Hello all,
    I am new to Premiere Pro CS4. I have to make a videofile of approximately 13 minutes, which is playable on a DVD-player (type LG DV9900). The source format is 1440x1080p, and I really wish to keep this quality. There will be no sound or music whatsoever.
    Could someone help me to choose the correct videoformat. I would also like to have a good fps (to assure a smooth image). The videofile has to fit onto a regular DVD (4,7GB). At this moment I have a .wmv-videofile in good quality (438mb with fps 50), but unfortunately my DVD-player won't play it.
    I already tried it with .avi (Divx codec), but then the file is WAY to large.
    Please help as it is quite urgent, trade fair is about to begin on monday :).
    Thanks
    Oliver

    On a related note, would this setting be good if you wish to play the video on a DVD player with upscale capabilities?
    I have a 20 minute video that was shot at 1920 X 1080. I'd like to encode the video with the highest settings that a DVD can handle. I figured a upscaling DVD player may require that the DVD be encoded in a special way - or maybe not.
    Can anyone help me determine what settings I should encode my video onto a DVD?
    thanks!

  • How to make template for avery dvd labels?

    Can one make a template to print avery dvd labels?

    You have all your versions wrong.
    The current Mac OSX is now v10.9.2.
    We have no idea what version of Pages you are talking about or what is happening when you try to open them. Possibly you have Pages '08 files which Pages 5 will not open.
    Any older version of Pages should however still be in your Applications/iWork folder.

  • How to make an iMovie edited clip copy elsewhere in EDITED format?

    OK- here is the rub. I have been importing horridly long analogue clips which span a decade and often the clips run on and on- some as long/large as 32GB.
    Now- I have noticed that when I have imported a sequence (and this one is called Clip 3 and is 12.3GB) and have chopped it up into wee dated and categorised clips within the one iMovie project when I come to take, say a 3 minute segment which is all nice and edited (black overlaps cut away and blips removed) and copy it to my desktop for use elsewhere I am ACTUALLY copying ALL of the original 12.3GB Clip 3.
    IS there anywhere to make the edits, paring-down TAKE on the iMovie side so that what I export is JUST that wee exerpt from that original clip, or not?
    It irks me that if I am trying to get 2 minutes of footage already edited from that 44 minute one I STILL get ALL of the 44 minutes exported. Bloaty, bloaty, bloaty... And yes- I have emptied trash (so the black gaps and blips are GONE, I thought) and I have saved the project after the edits.
    I must be missing something fundamental here, right?
    Ta muchly for help

    Let's keep your relatives' sporans out of this! LOL!
    You say you have decade's worth of VHS to deal with. So did I a year ago.
    I started taking home videos in 1986. After editing by such means as were available then, I would transfer them to VHS tape, for my self and extra copies to relatives. I would then delete the original camera tape in order to save money. Bad move! I stopped doing that in about 1990, and have retained all original tapes ever since.
    But, like you, I had priceless home videos from way back when to transfer to DVDs for posterity. Like you, no doubt, I imported via an analogue to digital converter into iMovie, edited with a quantum leap in accuracy, with added music, and burned them to DVD.
    Unlike you, I did not attempt to import the entire lot at once! I did them in date order, mostly about one hour at a time, never more than 90 minutes, which was sometimes necessary for continuity reasons. Unlike you I set clips to import at 3 minutes each, having invested in David Pogue's 'iMovie 6 & iDVD 6 -The Missing Manual' which I got from Amazon. For the first two or three iMovie projects I followed the advice in the book, page by page. Now I am more confident!
    But now you are, temporarily at least, stuck with humungeous clips of epic length and ending up with iMovie projects probably exceeding 50GB in size.
    There is only one answer: start again with the proper settings. You will soon develop a workflow that suits your needs, without 'project bloat'. Just do one event/season/year at a time. DVDs are cheap, so make lots of them. Only we, the auteurs have the patience to devour more than an hour's worth at a time. Our audiences will quickly develop square eyes and instant insomnia.
    I am certain that I have a clip of 32GB but that cannot then be- as the Hi8 tapes are only 90 minutes long, right?
    Right. 90 minutes of tape = ca. 20GB of DV iMovie. But you said you were importing from VHS? You must have made the VHS from more than one camera tape? Or did you have one of those naff VHS video cameras?
