How to make favorite site a desktop icon

I am dragging , bookmarking, etc. I cant get my work site to be a desktop icon. I know this is easy, I just cant figure it out. HELP

Drag that icon for whatever site your on and drop it onto the Desktop, it will create the shortcut icon.
You can then place it into folder (off your Desktop) and then drag it's icon from there into your Dock near the Trash can to create a short cut, or drag the entire folder of site shorts there and click on it and select from that.
Most people use folders in their browsers toolbar that are menus with sub-menus, this way they can organize them and export the entire batch.
If you click on the book looking icon in Safari on the left, that is so you can organize bookmarks.

How to make a website for desktop and mobile

I just have a question about, for example, washingtonpost.com. I know in CSS you used to be able to put that "/media" and "/screen" command in head and when the page loads, it detects the device and sends you to either mobile or desktop.
I went to WaPo and I can't seem to find that any more. So using WaPo, is this still how it's done? I just need to test a basic web page in DW4 and then test how it looks on desktop and then my Galaxy Note II so I know I'm moving along correctly before expanding out.
Any advice, help, and tips are appreciated.

media="screen" or media="print" is part of a css link in the head of a page and allowed one set of rules for print and another set for screens.
It was the precursor to "Media Queries" which is what you're looking for.

Basically, you make one site in html, then 2 stylesheets that control the site depending on the viewer device. You use the pixel width of the device or browser window to determine which stylesheet is used. When they're on a desktop, stylesheet1 is used, when they move onto something smaller, stylesheet2 kicks in.
The basics are pretty simple, getting the most out of it takes practice.

Linda, as far as the images go I edited them in Photoshop.
I saved them as jpegs using the quality slider set at 8
(never less for quality reasons).
The actual image "dimensions" in general are 280pixels x 421pixels
depending on orientation and 72 ppi in image "resolution" .
I think if you keep images no larger then 450pixels for general viewing
they should load fine.
The images that are the Page Headers are however W700xH400 which is the size of the default place holders in the templates, or 700x120 for the narrow ones.
I hope this isn't getting too technical, I've even considered doing QuickTime tutorials.
Derekbalsey: I'd say use the shapes and do things like adding strokes to a shape and use white or no fill or a complimenting color to fill it.
I will be updating the site tonight, nothing major, just slight changes to the page headers and adding some photos until I get some more "pro" looking ones I hope.
We'll see ho fast those load as they will be larger.
My goal is to use simple shapes and good colors, as i don't really know how to create animations and the likes.

I am forced to start up my iMac 10.6.8 using PRAM. However when it starts up there are no desktop icons showing, only the dock shows which gives me limited internet access. Can anyone help me recover desktop icons?

Reinstall OS X without erasing the drive
1. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions
Boot from your Snow Leopard Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list. In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive. If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the installer.
If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior and/or Tech Tool Pro to repair the drive. If you don't have either of them or if neither of them can fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall OS X.
2. Reinstall Snow Leopard
If the drive is OK then quit DU and return to the installer. Proceed with reinstalling OS X. Note that the Snow Leopard installer will not erase your drive or disturb your files. After installing a fresh copy of OS X the installer will move your Home folder, third-party applications, support items, and network preferences into the newly installed system.
Download and install Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1.

How do I change application/dock/desktop icons?

I recently downloaded a set of icons I'd like to replace my current icons on my desktop/dock. However, I'm having some problems. I've searched for the process to switch them I'm aware that you have to go to the Command+i option, copy the icon in the left, then go to what you want to switch and paste it to the icon in the left there. However, I think I might be having a problem changing it to the icon because after I get the info window open, the icon in the left is not the actual icon I'm trying to change it to. It looks like this:
Instead of changing to the icon/picture I want, it changes to the identification of a .png/.ico image.
Am I making any sense? And if so, can someone please help?

I don't think I am exactly sure of your problem, but I'll comment anyway. The procedure for changing an icon is, kindof, how you have described it; select the item with the icon you want to use and choose Get Info. Then select the icon in the Get Info window, by clicking on it once (in the upper left). This will cause an outline to appear around it. Then select Copy from the edit menu. Now select the item you want to change and repeat that same procedure, except, select Paste from the Edit pull down menu, in place of Copy, after you have selected the icon in the Get Info window.
For changing System icons, you'll need something like CandyBar.

Help, how to make Finder to refresh custom icon programmatically

I have two file both are same name, e.g. 1.rtf, but with different custom icon.
When I copied the first 1.rtf to an USB drive, the custom icon was displayed correctly.
However, when copied the second file to the USB drive to replace the first file, Finder still showed the custom icon of the first file.
How can I solve this issue and how can I make Finder to refresh the custom icon programmatically.

but result is same. The following is my experiment
STEP 1: copy 1.rtf to USB drive, the result is OK.
STEP 2: copy another 1.rtf to USB drive, Finder still showing the 1st file icon and a little bit blurred
STEP 3: copy 3rd file without custom icon, the result is OK
STEP 4: using following code to set its custom icon, the result is still show the custom icon of the 1st file
[[NSWorkspace sharedWorkspace] setIcon:image forFile:[filePath stringValue] options:nil];
It seems that Finder will has some cache to store file's custom icon. If use "Force Quit" to relaunch Finder, it become correct but how can I use program code to refresh it without "Force Quit"?

How to make my site stream faster?

I didn't know where to place this post so I started at this forum.
I have a website www.RideTheSpiral.net
which is a flash based site that hosts .flv video files.
These files are all 1000 kbps or less but they still take a long time to stream therefor the viewer loses interest and clicks away from the site.
I am searching for a solution to this.
And before you say it no I do not want to use You Tube.
I would like the videos to be contained within the site.
Is it the server maybe? I don't know.
Can anyone offer a solution?

it could be few problems or one of them.
Website is loading slowly too, so it could be hosting issue; It depends where your servers are located (in which country and where your visitors are coming). In example if my website would be hosted in Europe and my main visitors are coming from USA, they have more problems loading my wepage that users from Europe.
Another thing, there is possible that your website is coded not very correctly, he try to load all website with all flash movies and graphics at one time.
Third problem could be because you have both problems, yes it sounds not very good. Then you need to find out which one is bigger.

Hi,
No need to customize the ibeCCtdMenu.jsp to remove the icons, It is enough to change the Profile option "FND Branding size" to the value "Medium" or "Small".
After changing the profile option value, bounce apache. The links will be dispalying now without icons. Try out this!!
