How to make folders stay collapsed in list view in finder?

could someone please tell me if there is a way to make folders stay collapsed next time you open that particular folder (like they used to in tiger)
let me explain this in more detail
back in tiger, when you were in list mode, when you press right arrow on a folder it was expanding its contents, but the next time you open that folder those folders were collapsed, whereas in leopard it remembers the folders you expanded and they stay expanded forever (or until you collapse them all again manually)
i think its a lot more logical for them to stay collapsed next time you're opening that folder because if you have a lot of subfolders and they're all expanded when you open the folder next time its huge, the side scroller bar is tiny and its very difficult to find your stuff
if someone has a solution for this it would be greatly appreciated
thank you very much

thanks for your reply
actually CMD+A & CMD+left arrow only collapses the folders of the folder youre in, and not all the levels of subfolders that youve opened
if i could do CMD+A & CMD+left arrow to collapse all the levels of expanded subfolders that would be fine but imagine how much time it would take to locate everything that youve expanded and collapse it manually if you have about 10 levels of subfolders?
i find this incredibly frustrating, has anyone else got any suggestions?

  • How to add custom columns to the list view in Finder

    Hi,
    I'm looking for a way to view additional file details in the list view in Finder, for example audio bit rate, so I don't have to do "Get Info" for each file separately. I couldn't find a way to add columns other than the ones listed on the view options dialog.
    Can anyone help me find a way to do it?
    Thanks,
    Tal

    Have you checked the Help menu for what you want to do? I found this in Apple support - List View Options
    Check the AppleScript Forums. There is probably a script that you can use.

  • Finder folders stay open in list view

    I am having a problem with the Finder. When looking at folders in list view, certain folders stay open every time I look at a certain directory. If I close the folders and re-open the surrounding folder, the triangles are back down again! These are folders I had open a week ago and I don't need them open any more. It is very frustrating to open a folder, and have five open folders within it that I don't need open! I have to close them several times a day!
    How do I make it so that my Finder rembers that those should be closed? I am not sharing files or folders with any other computer or user.
    I had this problem on my laptop and I thought that maybe my external HD had some indexing issues. But now it is happening on my brand new imac with folders in the hard drive.

    Maybe some of the invisible .DS_Store files in your folders are corrupt.
    Launch your Terminal and paste the blue code below into it.
    Press Return and type in your password - press Return again and wait for the word 'done.' to appear.
    Then quit the Terminal.
    sudo find / -name \.DS_Store -exec rm -fP {} \;;echo done.
    Next, relaunch the Finder - press Command Option - click and hold down the Finder in your Dock and select Relaunch.
    Good luck,
    Tom

  • Links - How to reorder links within a folder. Also, how to make folders open in a tree view?

    I'm working on a portal in Sharepoint 2007. It appears that I can only have one set of "Links" on a page, so I am grouping my related links into folders. I'm having two issues with this...
    #1. I need to change the order of the links within a folder. When I try to Change Order under the Actions menu, I only get the main list of links, not those within the folder. How can I reorder links within a folder?
    #2. When I click a Links folder, all links go away, except for the links within that folder. Is there any way to make the Links list work in a Tree view?
    Sorry for the newbie questions, but I've not worked much in Sharepoint and I had this project dropped on me.  :(

    Hi,
    For Question #1,

    Hope it helps!

  • How to make folders

    This might have been answered in a different topic but i was just wondering how to make folders in Mail. I don't know if you can but... just a folder i can name and have it say "Friends" and then put the email from my friends in that folder.

    At the menu bar, go to Mailbox and select New Mailbox.
    If you are accessing a .Mac type account or an IMAP account with Mail, the location options are "On My Mac" which is stored locally on the hard drive or the .Mac or IMAP account which will create a server stored mailbox.
    If you aren't accessing a .Mac type account or IMAP, "On My Mac" is your only location choice.
    Enter a name for the mailbox and select OK.

  • How to make folders in photo?

    How to make folders in the photo app pre-loaded on the IPad?

    Whne you are in the screen where you can select which Album to view, there should be an Edit button top right of the screen - tap that and then tap the New Album button that will then show top left and name your new album. You will then be shown thumbnails of your photos so that you can 'copy' those photos into that new album.
    From what I understand with how it works, those photos won't be moved into the new album, instead they will remain in the original album and a pointer to them will go in the new album - so if you then delete the photo from its original album it will also be removed from all new albums that you've 'copied' it into.

  • HT5772 How do I delete podcast episodes that I don't want to keep without having them stay in my List view in iTunes and clog it up?  I have some episodes that I've listened to that I want to keep, but others I want to delete.

    Using iTunes on my MacBookPro, I find that when I want to delete selected podcast eisodes, they still stay in my List view with the cloud symbol next to them. I don't want them in my List view. I want them gone. I don't want to download them ever again. I do keep some episodes so I don't want to do the draconian thing and delete all podcast episodes once I've heard them. The other problem I have with trying to delete episodes is that some podcasts then have the same episodes pop back up as though I haven't listened to them. I've deleted a bunch of Science Friday episodes only to have them download again ready to hear. Not only that, but some episodes will finish playing or stop playing in the middle of an episode and a random podcast will start playing. Think! does that. GAH!!
    Does anyone know a workaround? The same nonsense happens in any iTunes view I try.
    <Edited by Host>

    You can delete photos from individual albums but not from the camera roll.  If you try to delete a photo from camera roll it will be deleted from all other albums ("locations") that contain the photo.  This is because the actual photo is in the camera roll (the albums only contain links to the photo in camera roll, not the actual photo).

  • JavaFX 2.0 : How to make a stage fit into browser view area?

    Invoking a JavaFX 2.0 applet from browser results in white spaces on the right and bottom area of the browser. This happens when the JavaFX stage resolutions is lesser than that of browsing desktop resolution. In a client/server model, usually server components doesn't know about the client resolutions. So how to make a stage fit into browser view area?
    Also I think, setting the primary stage to full screen mode is not what I want to achieve, as this mode overlays the browser window.

    Try typing 100% into the width and height fields. Alternatively, you could use Javascript (no connection to Java in spite of the name) to create an event to resize the applet to the window's size.

  • How do I get the reminders, in list view, to display in date order?

    How do I get the reminders, in list view, to display in date order? I can't seem to get them to display in date order on either my ipad or iphone.
    Yes i know I can look at date view, but i don't like that view. I excepted the list view to display all reminders in date order.
    Thanks!

    You need to create a stringwriter, wrap it in a printwriter, then print to the printwriter, then convert the stringwriter to a string.
    Here's an example:
    StringWriter sw = new java.io.StringWriter();
    PrintWriter pw = new java.io.PrintWriter(sw);
    e.printStackTrace(pw);
    String strError = sw.toString();
    I hope this works. I didn't test the above code. I don't think I'm leaving anything out, but it's been a while since I've done it. Either way, it should get you on the right track to get what you need.
    Hope that helps.
