How to make iPhone silent

I had my iPhone ringer switch set to off today but when I went to a web page, it started playing the sound from the a page through the iPhone speaker. It was quite embarrassing. How do I put the phone in a mode where it will not make sound no matter what I am viewing?

Turns out that when my iPod Touch was restored, the restrictions had been turned ON for Facebook and several other apps. This is what was preventing the Facebook app from accessing my Camera Roll for picture downloads. This is odd since all of my iPod backups would not have had those settings turned on. This is also the first time this has occurred given the few times I've had to restore my iPod Touch.
Anyway if you experience the same behavior from your iPod or iPhone with iOS 8.0.2, just go to the General settings and review your settings under Restrictions. Once you set them to allow for changes, you should be back in business.

There is not. You can't use the iPhone in disk mode like the iPod.

Thanks very much for your quick response to my posting. I would advise that I have already set the to the brightest display. But it seems that the cover that I am using is not a clear screen put is slightly dark. So I was just wondering if there is any app that I could use to make the iphone brighter.

Is it possible to configure FF (Thunderbird,..) to ''silently'' apply updates to itself, its plugins and add-ons, without bothering the user all the time (asking and waiting for approvals), displaying update screens, etc ?
Windows Update, Chrome and Apple manage to do this silently (in the background). I understand most of us here want to see whats going on, but in my case my parents only get more confused! And for safe surfing, i tell them NOT to OK anything which they don't know or expect.....

Towards the bottom of the article you will find how to have FF update with out popping up a update dialog panel. Remember that almost all updates will want you to restart FF though you can restart at a later time.

I now have the updated ios 6 version on my 3GS iphone. I can't send a photo now over imessage. I have tried resetting, I have turned cellular data on and off. I have over 7GB available. I've tried turning 3G on and off as well as data roaming. I have the mms on and not sms. I have icloud photos on so it can get to pictures on camera roll and stream. Why won't this work?! It did before- I don't care how that could be "coincident" with the upgrade. I can't change the APN on my phone. I think what the chap was asking for is this.
In Canada, Rogers & Fido provide a service called name display. It is just like call display but it displays the callers name that they have registered with their respective providers.
All the other phones on the network including some really really old phones will display the name.
I myself have this feature on my line but does not work with the iphone. My guess is this is something that they will have to implement but don't hold your breath as not a lot of other providers provide this service yet so see no need for apple to include this. I much rather like everyone else see a "Copy, Cut, and Paste" feature first. =)
