How to make ITunes silent during movie pause?

I just recently updated to Lion, and to ITunes 10.4.1.  There's an annoying "new" feature.
In old versions, when you paused the movie, you would hear silence.
Now, in this version, when I pause, I hear noise.  E.g., for Inglourious Basterds, I hear the piano theme music;  for Star Trek, I hear the sounds of the bridge (hums, beeps, etc.).
I don't like this new feature, because if I pause a movie and want to say, surf the web or run other apps, I *don't* want this annoying background track.  I know I can just hit "mute" inside the ITunes movie window... but really... that is an extra step.  Shouldn't there be a way to disable this "feature"?
Any advice would be most appreciated.

Is this an iTunes movie purchase or something you added yourself?
Is it an iTunes Extra movie?

Hmm.  Thanks for responding, Chris CA, but the stock answer of "update your software" (equivalent to tech support's stock, "try rebooting" answer) is not going to help.
It's not the equivelant at all and it was not simply a stock answer.
You said you "just recently updated" yet you are running old iTunes software on an old OS.
Shouldn't there be a way to disable this "feature"?
If this was a feature of iTunes, then maybe yes. However, as noted, I have never heard of this and it is not a "feature" of 10.5.2 (nor any other version as far as I can tell).

How to make iTunes recognize the music library in my external hard drive after instaIling Yosemite? I tried re-setting the media folder location, but it didn't work. What else should I do?

The issue is not related to the external drive. iTunes Match has difficulties matching tracks ripped fom CDs because they may differ slightly from the versions on sale in iTunes. You can try the match again. Otherwise do a search of this forum. There are already many discussions on this subject here that may help you.

  • How to make iTunes read the song's name/singer from the file's name itself?

    Hi everyone,
So I have this file with songs from everywhere. I spent quite some time now to make sure that the structure of each file's name is as such : "Singer - Song name", hoping that everything would be read by iTunes accordingly. However, either iTunes read it well, or it didn't read it at all ("Singer - Song name" appearing in Title alone), or iTunes read the "media" of the file (ie. what the guy I downloaded it from wrote for it in the Preferences, which usually is in capital letters or with a bunch of weird underscores). As I'm OCD and need everything to be neat, I'm highly tensed right now. I really want everything to be neat and clear!
So, how do I make sure that iTunes reads the files' names such that it knows the structure is "Singer - Song name"? Thanks.

iTunes doesn't use file names to determine how music appears in your library,  Rather, it uses metadata that is split between:
data elements that are embedded within the media files
data elements that are included in the entries in the iTunes database
No amount of reorganization, renaming or other manipulation at the file level will make any difference to how songs will appear in iTunes.  Using your example:
the value of the track number element is 1
the value of the artist element is "Elvis Presley"
the value of the song name element is "Blue Suede Shoes"
Depending on how you configure iTunes then the file name is either:
completely independent of iTunes (i.,e., the file containing this song could be xyz.mp3)
dependent on the metadata managed by iTunes, (i.e., when you have these two options set:
then iTunes will set the file name to be 1-01 Blue Suede Shoes.mp3 where:
the file is in a folder called "Elvis Presley" (the name of the album)
that folder is in one called "Elvis Presley" (the name of the artist) which is in iTunes Media\Music
Going back to your question "How to make iTunes read the song's name/singer from the file's name" the answer is simple - you can't, as this is not how iTunes works.  There are some third-party utilities that you can use to set some metadata element values based on parsing of file names which might be a useful first step.  However, to use iTunes effectively you should really forget about / ignore file names - manage your media using appropriate metadata and allow iTunes to look after file names behind the scenes.

By default, a playlist will be created in iTunes called "Voice Memos" and those files will be transferred there automatically. The files themselves can be found on your computer in your iTunes Music folder in Unknown Artist > Unknown Album.
It may be worth working through any trouble shooting articles on that site.

  • How to make iTunes detect the new location of music files?

Hi everyone. I moved all of my music to a different location on my hard drive, and I changed the location in iTunes preferences, but it doesn't seem to detect this, so my library is empty now. I saved an itl, xml, and temp file as well, but I don't know what to do from here.
I also tried dragging the new music folder onto the "Library" entry in iTunes, and this added everything, but I no longer have my ratings, playlists or anything like that.
Is there some other way to have iTunes detect the new location? And can I get back my ratings and playlists?
    Thanks.

    Dear Michael, good day!
    1. As per your instruction, I turned off iTM.
Small discrepancy – where are two screens with iTM switch:
-Settings > iTunes & App Store.
    -Settings > Music
    I switched OFF in both.
NB: I turned device to English for convenience.
    2. My next step was Setting > General > Usage – tapped {Music};
{All music} screen appeared; I swiped it and taped Delete.
    3. I performed “hard reset” …………………………………..
    4. Switched back On iTM
    5. Taped Music app on Home screen
iTM has started –  (it took 18 minutes  to completed, 60 mbps Wi-Fi speed )

  • How to make iTunes support more than just one harddrive

The title of this topic says it all: How do I make iTunes support more than just one harddrive? I cannot afford to buy a really huge drive just because iTunes doesn't support more than one.
There must be a way around this! Anyone?

I sure hope so. I run iTunes on an iBook G4 with limited space. I've got about 15gigs of music on an external harddrive. I only use the harddrive at home so I like to keep a handful of albums with me on the lappy. There should be some way to designate a primary folder on the laptop for imports, and a secondary (external or whatever) for the bulk of the library. Maybe some nifty way to do quick transfers between them within iTunes. Like a relocate function.
Say I want the new death cab for cutie album on the laptop this week, but next week I want to swap it out with something new that comes out. It would be nice to highlight an album and select "transfer to secondary" so that iTunes can move the files for you, keep them organized, and keep track of them.
    That doesn't sound so difficult...

  • How to make Itunes read moved files

I have moved all my music from the Itunes media folder into my external HDD to free up some room on my laptop after finding out that Itunes makes a copy of the original file and puts it in its own folder in Itunes which after finding out that it does that I have 2 of the same files which is taking up about 70% of my HDD space. HDD C drive is only 75gb and for whatever reason my D drive is 200gb. So how do I make Itunes read my external HDD instead of my laptops hdd?
If more clarification is needed I will provide.

It is generally best to move the entire iTunes folder as a unit. If you wanted to move your media to a new path what you should have done is edit the media folder preference in iTunes and then consolidate to that new path. Moving the media first by hand and then trying to fix iTunes is generally the wrong approach, and there are disadvantages to splitting out the media folder.
Options are to move everything back where it came from, consolidate to a new path, then delete the originals that iTunes leaves behind. Alternatively you should be able to use my FindTracks script to reconnect the relocated media to iTunes. See this post for an explanation of how it works. Or it may be possible to reassemble the library files and media folder on the external drive so that they are in the same shape as if you had moved the iTunes folder over in one step. See Make a split library portable for more background.  My recommendation is that you take this last approach.

  • How to make iTunes add a folder without creating duplicates?

    Hello,
I have a PC running windows 7.  I keep all my music in one folder on a NAS device.  I am getting more and more fed up with Windows Media Player (WMP) and I would like to move to iTunes.  This move, however, appears to be as painful as using WMP.  Please help if you can.  I have used iTunes before so I have an existing music and video library and I also have a number of playlists both with music and videos.  I cannot afford to start from sratch, i.e., to remove and readd everything; it would be too costly.  I have two major problems with iTunes:
    1. When I try to add files that already exist in the iTunes library iTunes happily adds these file and creates duplicates.  I cannot find a knob that would prevent iTunes from creating these duplicates and simply ignore any found files if they are already present in the library.  All such duplicates point to the same file on disk.  I am really scratching my head over this as I would think that this would be a very basic thing to do/allow, yet it does not seem to be possible.  Is it me missing something simple here or is it Apple telling me that this is how it must be...???
All I want to do is to add the top folder that contains all my music without having to deal with thousands of duplicates.  I cannot add the files one-by-one because there are too many of new files there and if I remove all the files and re-add them all my lists will likely become empty (tried it on one list and, as expected, the list got emptied once I removed the files that were in the list).  Hmm, is this asking for too much?  Please help.
    2. I do not seem to see a way to tell iTunes to monitor for new media files.  WMP allows you to specify folders to monitor.  You add a file to the folder and the file gets added to the library.  What is wrong or bad with this concept (other that it would not work if duplicates were handled)?  Why does iTunes not seem to support that?
    Thank you,
    Peter

tt2, thank you for your reply.  Let me restate your answers the way I see them.
Problem #1:  You said that "iTunes only creates duplicates if you ask it to...".  Well  my goal is not to create duplicates but to avoid them and the problem with iTunes is that it does not seem to offer an easy way to do this.   Do not get me wrong, I like iTunes but let's call black black and white white.  So the way I read your answer is: no iTunes does not support a way to add the same folder twice without creating duplicates.
Problem #2: The answer to the second question is also no, iTunes does not offer any way to monitor for new files in a folder or folders.
I wish the above were incorrect but from what I hear and from what your wrote I conclude iTunes does not support any of that.
You offered external to iTunes solutions for both problems.  Thank you for that!  I did not know about this tools.  Having said that my iTunes music files are on a NAS device (files not copied to iTunes library), my video files are on NAS but (because of the necessity to convert to iTunes supported format) they were transcoded and stored in iTunes library, my iTunes Store purchases (music) are in the iTunes library and on the NAS (backup - likely duplicates).  In short it gets messy very quickly and after reading the NAS and multi-path warnings for the DeDuper tool I am just not jumping on the idea of using it - there would be physical duplicates and I would not want any physical files to be deleted.  tt2, do you know if the DeDuper offers a mode where it would present the user with a list of duplicates and allow the user to decide which dups to remove before doing anything?  I basically would want to remove the dups from the library but without deleting any physical files.
I will have a closer look at the iTunes Folder Watch program.  Unless I am misinterpreting something I think it should do what I want to do.
So again, thank you for your answers and suggestions with the external tools.  It is just too bad that iTunes does not support what I (and many others) need natively.

  • How to make quicktime h.264 movies repeat indefinitely on iPod third gen

I created some QT H.264 movies for my wife's 3rd generation iPod so that we could play them in our nursery. But they only play once -- I would like them to loop continuously on the iPod. The 3rd gen iPod has a repeat setting, but that only seems to apply to music. I thought that there was a QuickTime Pro export setting for "loop continuously," but I can't seem to find it.
Can anyone help me out here?

In iTunes add the movie to a playlist or create a playlist with the movie.
    Sync the iPod.
Set the iPod to *repeat all*
In the video section select the video in the videoplaylist and play it. It repeats.
