How do I clear the
screen?Write enough blank lines so that what's visible scrolls off the top.
(Im playing with console mode)Don't waste your time trying to make your console input and output pretty. Java doesn't have the facilities for that, and frankly console I/O has been obsolete for years now.

  • How to make Illustrator remember color settings?

    Hello!
The quick color selector in the main toolbar (fill and stroke) always resets their thumbnail sizes whenever I quit Illustrator.
I use a 27" monitor and prefer large thumbnails in my fill and stroke palette in the toolbar - but is there no way to make Illustrator "save" the settings when I change it to large thumbnails?

Can't help you but just to confirm that this is the case (I'm using CS5 Win7). No way to make Illustrator remember the settings - they programmed it as bad as it is and I don't think there is a way at least using the UI.
You can use this link to post a feature request http://forums.adobe.com/community/illustrator/illustrator_feature_requests although I think this can be considered as a bug.
by the way, it is called the Control panel which by default is the horizontal bar under the main menu - the Toolbar is the vertical bar with tools on the left side.
Alternatively meanwhile you can increase the size of the swatches in the Swatches panel which luckily Illustrator remembers.

  • The add-on "Expire history by days" doesn't work for me. How to make firefox remember my history for longer?

Hi, With the recent updates firefox no longer keeps my browsing history for over 7 days. It makes things difficult for me because I could no longer keep track of some of the things I do. Is there any way to keep the browsing history longer?
Someone previously suggested the add-on "Expire history by days". It sometimes would keep the history for over a month and the next day all history older than a few days are completely gone! Any help is greatly appreciated.
    Thanks in advance.

Firefox keeps both bookmarks and history in the same database a file called ''places.sqlite''.
The addon may in fact restrict the options and prevent Firefox storing more History.
Try using the addon ''Places Maintenance'' and run the report option BEFORE and after any repair attempt. It may not help but at least produces a short potentially useful report in simple text format. You can paste the reports into your next reply.
    * https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/places-maintenance/
Note both addons are by the same person, someone that has worked on Firefox and the author even added a warning
    * https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/expire-history-by-days <blockquote>Warning: the Places expiration system works to provide you the best performances in an automatic way. Using this add-on to override its functionality, may create unexpected performance problems and is not needed. Thus, unless you have clear reasons to need the functionality exposed by this add-on, you should not use it.</blockquote>
You apparently already have plans regarding freeing up space.
If you are short on free space on the hard disk History is the least of your concerns. Window XP is happiest with at least 20-25% free space. Defrag attempts will fail at about 12%. Do not use the hibernate option if low on disk space, because that will free up an amount equivalent to the RAM memory installed. Defrag if you can. This is not a Windows support forum, so I may only post short tips and suggestions of where else to try

  • How to make Safari remember Zoom Lever

I would like to load automaticly with a certain zoom level. When the page loads I have to constantly hit the command key then the + key so the page is large enough to read. I don't want to increase the font size but just to save this zoom level so next time I load this same page it is at the correct zoom level.
How to do it without using the extantions or changing CSS? Or how to write to Apple about it?
    Thank you!

You can provide feedback to Apple here.
Unfortunately, there's no way to have Safari permanently remember the zoom level but check out the options in System Preferences > Accessibility.
    Select Zoom on the left.
Alternatively, the Firefox browser offers other ways of handling text sizes on webpages.

  • How to make PowerBook remember screen layouts from small screen to Cinema

I'm using a 23" Cinema Display with my G4 Powerbook. But I often disconnect the display if I need to take the Powerbook with me around the office.
When I do this, I have to reposition all my windows - finder and apps - where I want them on the small screen. Then, when I reconnect to the Cinema Display, I have to reposition them all over again.
Some apps seem to do this fairly well themselves - like Photoshop and InDesign - but others don't.
Is there some way for me to get the Mac to remember the positions of all the windows in each configuration, so I can just switch between them... a bit like the "Location" (under the Apple menu) does for my network settings?
    Thanks for any advice.

I don't think that you'll be able to use the HDMI port - I don't think!
Rather, what you would need is a Thunderbolt/Mini DisplayPort to VGA (if that's what the monitor has) adapter -> http://www.monoprice.com/Product?c_id=104&cp_id=10428&cs_id=1042802&p_id=5107&se q=1&format=2.
    Good luck,
    Clinton
P.S. Does your monitor have any other input ports? DVI would be best.

  • How to make firefox remember the main web address of each website instead of it remembering URLs history?

Whenever you visit a website such as youtube.com and have searched for videos on the site, firefox remembers all these URLs the next time round you attempt to type youtube.com into the address bar. I find it frustrating because all I want to see is a neat list of websites beginning with the letter 'y' when I begin typing 'youtube' such as youtube.com or yahoo.com, etc. I don't want to see everything else otherwise it just looks messy - you end up having to click on one of the URLs to get to the site again or you end up retyping the main address out yourself (some main web addresses are long!).
Is there an option in firefox where you can have it only remember the main web address of the sites you have visited instead of all the URLs visited on those sites? I'm not talking about deleting the entire history, just for the address bar to remember a simple list of sites such as google.co.uk, yahoo.com, youtube.com, outlook.com, etc.
If something like this doesn't exist then I wish someone would give us the option to do that.

Pick a page you like for that site, then bookmark it. In the future,
    just select the bookmark.

  • How to make LR remember the Crop Ratio

Is there a way to have LR remember a crop ratio so you don't have to always re-selected it again when you move to another image?
I needed to crop over a 100 photos to 5x7. I would select crop, then choose 5x7, adjust the crop to what I want, and move to the next image. The Crop ratio would be at the original, so I would have to re select 5x7 for every image. What am I doing wrong?

Select all 100 in Grid view, expand the Quick Develop panel, click the Saved Preset drop down, click the Crop Ratio drop down menu and apply 5x7.
Press R to jump to Crop mode and tweak composition as needed.

  • How to make Premiere remember the sequences in the sequence panel when re-opening the project?

I've got a project I've been editing on ( a feature film) which consists of 100 scenes which are roughly in 100 sequences plus about 100 more sequences from the dialies during the shoot. In the sequence panel I have usually a couple sequences open and of course the master. Then I save it, shut down Premiere, restart it and then later I load the project back in. The result is a complete random selection of sequences in the sequence panel (usually the old dailes) but never the ones I worked on when I saved the project. Anything I can do so that Premiere remembers which sequences I edited on when I saved it?

You did not state what version of PP you are using. However, this was a known issue and was fixed in the 8.2.2 update. What you have to do is create a new project file in 8.2.2. and import the entire project you are having the problem with then save.
Even though this issue was fixed in 8.2.2, just by opening and re-saving a project file will not resolve it. As stated, you have to create a new project file from within 8.2.2., import your current project then save. That will resolve it.

  • How do I add a website to remember the password after I have been to it before? I didn't know how to make the website remember the password initially.

I want to have firefox remember a password on some sites that I have already been to previously. When it asked me initially, I didn't know how to make it remember. Now I would like for it to remember that site. Please explain how to do this.

If you clicked "Never" then you have created an exception that you need to remove.<br />
Otherwise Firefox should offer to store the name and password on the next visit when you sign on.
    Remove site(s) from the Exceptions:

  • How can I make firefox remember passwords on ALL sites?

Firefox has a feature to remember my passwords, which is very useful. However, some sites mess with this so they won't save my passwords. In some cases these sites turn "autocomplete" off for the password field in their html; in other cases they appear to use some kind of javascript magic to stop me from saving my passwords.
First of all, why should websites try to stop me from saving my password? Do they really think its more secure if people have to write their passwords on stickynotes on their monitor to remember them--or worse, use the same password on all sites? I what way is it conceivably more secure? In any case it's MY business how I manage my passwords--not theirs!
I have had some success in battling evil sites that try to stop my from saving my passwords by editing the nsLoginManager.js file. But this is not convenient as I must keep doing this every time firefox gets upgraded, and it doesn't work for some sites like American Express which I think use some sort of javascript to stop me from doing what I want.
So my question is, how can I effectively make firefox remember ALL the passwords I want, when _I_ want to--and NOT obey evil websites that just want to practice CYA while actually making me LESS secure?

You can use the Remember Password bookmarklet: <br />
https://www.squarefree.com/bookmarklets/forms.html#remember_password <br /> ''Has worked for me when I have needed it to save a password on a web site that used autocomplete=off.'' As far as the Bug that '''cor-el''' linked, I can't remember ever running across a website that did it like that.
Or, you can use the Saved Password Editor extension, which includes a means of manually adding Username/Passwords to Firefox. <br />

  • How to make Nokia Suite remember the position and ...

how to make Nokia Suite remember the position and the size i set it?
because everytime i start it, it defaults in the middle of the screen and in the smallest possible size.
    Nokia Suite 3.3.86
    Windows Vista
    Greece Nokia X6 RM-559 v40.0.002

Again, are you talking about genuine Nokia firmware, not any of some 3rd-party customised versions?
For officially released firmware, you may force Nokia Suite to reinstall even if your firmware is already up to date. This feature might be missed in its GUI as its link is "hidden" in the prompt message, not on a button or highlighted with underscore. Try Nokia Suite, once the phone is connected, click the icon of Software Update on the top, then click the word "reinstall" in the prompted message.

  • How do I make Mac remember where I left off a TV Show on my Apple TV?

I have Lion OS and iOS5 on my iDevices. Still when I watch a TV show from my Apple TV, and then resume on my Mac, the Mac doesn't know where I left off the TV show. Nor does Mac mark a TV show as watched if I have already seen it on Apple TV.
Is there a way to remember where I left off in a TV show across devices?

I'd think ..... it will by default remember the playback poition on my Mac anyway. Or am I missing something?
That's not generally what happens when you open most other documents, by default you are taken back to the begriming or first page, obviously it's something you might want to do with a movie so iTunes includes this option (although yes it's set by default). many other movie applications don't remember where you left off.
    >>> OK, but just to be sure, Apple is not really leveraging iCloud in this case, which is unfortunate (See more below).
Second, does it mean that if I download the TV Show on iPad, it will remember the position there as well? Or will it start from the beginning only?
If you stream the movie from the iTunes Library on your mac to your iPad it will remember the position,
    >> How does one "stream" a movie from Mac to iPad? Streaming is only done to an Apple TV as far as I know
but if you play it from a file on the iPad (i.e. downloaded or synced) then it's essentially another file on another device and that device will have no idea where you left off in another file on your mac.
    >> Ok for the downloaded case. But in the case of synced, actually it does remember where I left off, doesn't it?
    >> What I am a bit baffled by is why Apple couldn't sync media playback position via iCloud. So, I watch a TV show on my Mac (or Apple TV), and it just syncs playback position periodically to iCloud and then to all devices, so that I can pick up on any device. Say I am leaving the house and now want to switch to iPad from Apple TV, iPad will remember where I left off.
