How to make karl remember egon

Question

At the code below, main calls the class named karl. Since the variable egon was defined in main, karl dont know anything about egon.
How do I make the string egon eksist in both main and in the class karl?

String egon;
karl();
public static class karl
egon = "whatever";
}... Yet another problem: How do I make the program wait until the user press any key? How do I clear the screen? (Im playing with console mode)

screen?Write enough blank lines so that what's visible scrolls off the top.
(Im playing with console mode)Don't waste your time trying to make your console input and output pretty. Java doesn't have the facilities for that, and frankly console I/O has been obsolete for years now.
