How to make lower thirds

I am sure this has been covered, so I apologize.
I learned video on Adobe Premiere, and the Pro versions had title templates with lower thirds already created. I also sometimes would draw a box on my title screen and color it accordingly to make my lower third.
I like FCP 1000x times better, and since there are no lower third templates or title designer menus, I was wondering if someone could tell me how to make lower thirds in FCP. I prefer not to use Photoshop because I only have CS1 and it runs rather slowly in Rosetta on my machine.

An easy way would be to make a new matte solid then crop it to create your shape. You then could adjust color, opactity, shadows, etc. You could also apply a mask to make other simple shapes or feather edges. Then lay your text on top.

Exporting Lower Thirds from AE CC 12.2 to be used in Premiere

hi everyone,
I'm currently in the trial versions of adobe AE and Premiere for Mac. I'm stuck...trying to troubleshoot whether AE or/and Premiere is not properly set up.
I have dug up so many youtube tutorials and forum posts on how to export lower thirds with alpha channel from AE... and everyone has the same solution,
Here is my lower third on AE, as you can see it is transparent:
Export using the following settings as everyone has taught:
Import into Premiere, I layer it over my footage and it just doesn't show up...like it is not there.
Yet, the footage preview shows the lower third, but my preview doesn't...
Anyone know what is wrong?
I downloaded a free web-based sample lower thirds quicktime (Created with: Adobe After Effects CS5.5 10.5 Windows 64)
to test if all lower thirds don't work...sample works perfect... therefore, I conclude that it has to be that my mac AE is exporting in a format that Premiere can't show properly.

You have rendered at 1280x720 from After Effects. If your Premiere Pro sequence is smaller, such as 720x480, the problem would be that your lower-thirds graphic is offscreen due to the difference in frame sizes. If this is the case, you can scale the lower-thirds clip in Premiere Pro to the smaller size.

How to make a lower third with an opacity gradient?

There is a lower third (name title) I saw while watching a YouTube video that I'd like to replicate in Premiere, in which it features what I would call an opacity gradient, rather than a linear gradient, radial gradient, or 4-color gradient. Here's a link to the very lower third I'm referring to:

It appears to have a color stop opacity to it as well, but how can I get the lower third title itself to operate under an opacity gradient?

Taking another look at the opacity gradient lower third I referred to, it looks like the gradient doesn't begin to take affect until about 3/4ths of the way down. Up until this point, the opacity remains constant. It's as if they keyframed the opacity gradient to begin only at this point, but I doubt you can keyframe lower-thirds.
However, I just realized there is a way you can achieve this. It may not be the most efficient way, but it's the only method I could muster up and it appears to get the job done. Here's how: because Premiere does not feature a 6-color gradient (which would be ideal for this scenario), instead create two separate 4-color gradients under fill type. First, create one 4-color gradient, then specify each quadrant's color stop opacity all under the same percentage to ensure uniformity, say 60% for all quadrants. (I guess you wouldn't have to use a 4-color gradient for this first uniform lower third, but it may help to use it to visualize what I'm talking about.) Next, create another 4-color gradient and line it up flush with the first gradient. It is with this gradient that you will begin to level off the opacity. Set the color stop opacity of the two quadrants on the side that is flush with the previously created gradient to match the opacity of this first gradient (in this case, it would be 60%). Finally, move on over to the opposite side of this second gradient and pull down the color stop opacity to 0%. Voila.
I'd like to upload a YouTube tutorial to more clearly illustrate step-by-step how to achieve this, as you did, but I've never created screen-capture tutorials before. If I pick up some screen-capture software and post this tutorial, I'll share it on here.

Again, bro, just make a rectangle and mask it with a gradient, set the mask on luminosity. Done. Also make sure your project settings have a transparent background, not solid.
Overlay that .motn on any video. Done.
Not trying to be a jerk, but it's almost comedic...
You haven't posted anything about problems you're running into. Got any screen shots of what you're ending up with? What is your specific problem here.

How to add picture over video to create a lower third look

Here's one I've not been able to deduce. After creating a small JPEG label, I want to place it on the lower portion of the video as a title, but one that has been custom made. In this case the logo needs to cover the lower right of the screen. Therefore, I need to bring this photo over into IPhoto, import it into the video, and be able to manipulate it to sit exactly where I want it to go. Picture in Picture doesn't work because that deals with two video elements. Crop doesn't work partially for the same reason but also because the crop box won't go that small or that wide.
This lower third logo needs to be able to stay over the entire length of the video (as in this case) or be able to fade in and fade out at certain times.
Not sure if IMovie has this capability, and would sure appreciate the tips. Thanks.

If you upgrade to iMovie 09, you could do this with the cutaway feature.
You would create the lower third title in Photoshop or the like. Make the slide in the same dimensions as your iMovie project and the same aspect ratio. Set the lower third title exactly where you would want it on the frame. Use PNG not JPEG so you can make the only thing showing your title. Everything else in the frame should be alpha-channel transparent.
Drag this over your video in iMovie 09 and select Cutaway.

What version of Premiere Elements are you using and on what computer operating system is it running?
In the case of this theoretical lower third to be applied to more than one title at a time
a. Is there text in the lower third besides a graphic of some kind?
b. Are all the titles to which this lower third is to be applied all together on the Timeline or scattered?
If no text in lower third and titles all together, then, with text titles on Video 1 and lower third on Video 2, drag out the lower third to cover the length of the text titles on Video 1.
I do not find "lower third" title files to be in the same category as certain effects where the Copy and "Paste Attributes" or "Paste Effects and Adjustments" lend themselves so well.
Let us see what others have to say about all this. I will continue to experiment with what you seek and how you would prefer to get there. I am not optimistic but I will try.

I have an ipad with 5.0.1 and trying to learn how to use it. When I click on the icon Calender, I get the calendar presentation but I do not know how to make an entry. Every tutorial I have looked at says that you click on a + sign in the lower right corner and then make your entry. I do not have a + sign on my screen. Can some one help me.

It is not clear what you want to do.
a. Are you able to double click the template to open it in the program's Titler?
b. Can you select the present text with the Selection Tool to move it to custom locations?
c. Can you edit the existing text in the template?
The following uses the Aquarium lower 3rd template...where do you want to write text in the template?

How to get a photo inside the little box in the "Lower Third" Sports Theme?

In iMovie '11, in the Sports theme, in the Text page titled "Lower Third," how can I get a picture of a person inside that little box? That sports theme comes up/shows up at the box "Set Theme": Sports. They are all a fluorescent blue, very nice for name tags if I could get faces/pictures inside those boxes.
Important: Under :Windows" (in control panel) there is an option to click SPORTS EDITOR. I tried working with that. I tried to put a picture in one of those boxes, but the experiment failed.
Any ideas?

just drag'n drop from Finder any (... 'any' : shouldn't be a 16MBit monster-sized pic, just a small one, look at the aspect ratio) jpeg into it.

The digital keyboard on the iPad uses an "Up Arrow" as a symbol to represent its shift key(s). If it's highlighted, then the next letter typed will be upper-case. Just tap on the Arrow symbol and it should be unhighlighted. Now if you type any letter, it will be lower-case.

I have been using the original Apple charger cable that came with my phone (iPhone 5C) for a good year, but then it broke. So I bought this non-Apple cable because I didn't really wanna spend a lot of money for an original one. I have already charged my phone with third-party cables before, so I thought it would work. Are you seeing the EE (or T-Mobile) network name and network bars in the top right hand corner of the screen? Turn off WiFi (Settings>WiFi - turn this off). Is there anything next to the network name in the top right hand corner (3G, E or o)? E is Edge and o = GPRS.
If there's nothing next to the network name, turn off the iPhone and then turn it back on. To do this, press and hold down the button on the top until you see the 'Slide to Power Off' message. Slide and then wait for the iPhone to shut down. To turn it back on again, press and hold the top button again unti lkthe Apple logo shows on the screen.
EE and signal bars top left = Yes
Turned off Wifi and next to the EE is 'o' which you say is GPRS? What does that mean please??

I am doing news video for a site and they sent me their lower third graphic with their logo and it is in .PNG format. I imported it but when I put it in video 2 layer above the video I want on top of it nothing shows up! How do I fix this?

What is your sequence setting.
What is the size of the png?
If the png is way larger then the sequence settings set it to match the framesize.

Working with AE lower third creates master clip. How do I turn this off?

I've imported an AE lower third and I see in the bin instance that it has an asterisks next to it's name with the word Master. Each instance of the lower third throughout my timeline is to be different but if I change one instance it replaces the text of them all. How can I avoid this?

I've created a white lower third rectangle and I want an image of the newspapers logo to be inside of the white lower third rectangle.
I'm trying to drag the image into the title workspace but it wont allow me to do so......
How can I get this image of the newspapers logo inside of the white lower third rectangle?

Great advice! That's working fine.
But....my white lower third rectangle has a fill opacity of 88%. When I've inserted the newspaper's logo into this rectangle, obviously the logo (which is white with blue text) has an opacity of 100%. But when I lower the logo opacity to 88% I lose the logo's white, but also the actual text of the logo too which is a problem.
So I'm now thinking, is it possible to lower fill opacity from left to right in my rectangle? If so, this would allow the left hand side of my rectangle to stay at 100% fill opacity, which would match the white fill of the newspapers logo, and I could gradually reduce the opacity as the rectangle goes right, fading out towards the end.
Is it possible to use fill opacity in a left to right motion?
