How to make Mac accessible to workgroup

Hey,
I have a MacBook Pro with Mac OS X Mountain Lion version 10.8.4. I'm connected to my home WiFi. I have a printer connected, a Samsung Smart TV and there's also my roommate Laptop (which works Windows 7). For some reason, none of the other devices can find, through WiFi, my Macbook. I can use my printer from my Mac, but my printer doesn't detect my Macbook when I try to scan using the device itself. Same goes for my Smart TV and my roommate computer, who can't see my Macbook connected on our Network.
Why is this happening and how can I make my Mac detectable to the other devices (PC, TV and Printer) on the Network?

I am wondering how to make my mac sleep while this wireless-sharing setting is enabled?
Since I have enabled this setting, the mac will not sleep, however, the mac will sleep when I disable it.
I am also wondering ; [if it is possible to make the mac sleep while this setting is enabled], can I still use the mac as a wireless router even while it is asleep?
Or does it need to be awake to function as a router?

Yes, I kind of thought what you are saying would be the case.
It makes "sense" that when the computer is asleep, so are all it's functions,
but I *WISH* there was an option to keep the airport functioning even while the computer is asleep.
Bob, I don't think having the OPTION to leave the airport on while mac sleeps would defeat the power-saving feature of the computer (:
I know the "best" way to share wifi is with a router, but for me, a router just another piece of plastic I don't need. All I need to do is share wifi in a small space [my room] from my mac to my iPad and ipod touch.
I like to use my ipad as a reader, and when I am reading, I may be sitting down for many hours just reading from the ipad. It doesn't make sense to leave the mac running during these long periods just for a wireless signal, so I may sadly buy a router ):

When tried to give the hardcoded link in the browser like:

I got the following alert.
This screen is not accessible. Contact your company administrator for access.
This seems the screens are availble but we need to enable. Please note: I am working with Admin role only but I have clue how to make this enable.
Please help.....

These will not be available on your vertical and you will have to raise a SR with Oracle to gain access to these functions. I am not 100% sure they will turn these functions on as your only using a trail version.

How to make Mac Mini (Early 2009) sleep in Lion?

After upgrading to Lion, my Mac Mini (Early 2009) stopped going to sleep from the Apple menu or from the keyboard. The problem has persisted with all point releases of Lion. The computer went to sleep with the same peripherals just fine under Snow Leopard.
The display goes to sleep but the computer itself neither suspends nor hibernates. The power light is lit and doesn't pulsate. Measuring how many watts the device draws from the power socket shows that it's not sleeping. It wakes up so quickly that it must be only the display sleeping.
Console log shows nothing when trying to sleep.
Changing the hibernate mode from the default 3 to 25 makes no difference. Running the PleaseSleep app make no difference.

Open console in Applications>Utilities, check the system log for the date/time of the last problem & the Startup right after that for clues.
One way to test is to Safe Boot from the HD, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, Test for problem in Safe Mode...
PS. Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive
Reboot, test again.
If it only does it in Regular Boot, then it could be some hardware problem like Video card, (Quartz is turned off in Safe Mode), or Airport, or some USB or Firewire device, or 3rd party add-on, Check System Preferences>Accounts (Users & Groups in later OSX versions)>Login Items window to see if it or something relevant is listed.
Check the System Preferences>Other Row, for 3rd party Pref Panes.
Also look in these if they exist, some are invisible...

A login greeting is simple. Make a small application with Automator:
1. Choose Application from the Automator template.
2. Add one action: Run Shell Script. In this action, replace cat with say welcome.
Save the application and store it somewhere. (The Applications folder is a good choice.)
Open System Preferences, choose Accounts, then select the account you want to target. In that account, select Login Items. Drag your new application to the login item window to create a link to the file. Close System Preferences.
Each time that you login to that account, the application will run and the Mac will say "Welcome." Once it becomes annoying, return to the Login Items to remove the link to your application.

That page talks about Snow Leopard's Networking abilities, not Leopards.
Off hand, I don't know whether what you describe is a new feature in Snow Leopard or not, but I've never seen Leopard do it (and, to be honest, wouldn't want to).
In either case, it's basically just Bonjour telling the router to configure port forwarding. Given that, I'd start by enabling mod_bonjour in Apache:

but I don't know how other processes are doing it.

Use the Startup Disk control panel (Boot Camp control panel in XP).
You should have inserted and installed the Mac OS X DVD while in Windows and run Apple Setup.exe.

How to make mac address gmail contacts overwrite the ones on my HTC Android phone - I don't want to sync - that makes the phone scramble and overwrite my computer. I want to remove or correctly overwrite the phone information as I have done with iPad.

Please help - I am beginning to hate google, my android and gmail. I have just wasted about 5 hours in a futile attempt to try and get my current Mac contacts list on my computer updated to my phone. I'm not that computer literate but I have looked up about google phone accounts, vCards, backing up contact lists, what SD on phones are, and God know what else. I have searched the internet and tried all sorts of things and I still have a mac with a now correct contact list (after the iPad contacts scrambled it and I spent ages manually correcting them all) and a phone with an outdated contact list. If you try and sync them the phone wants to overwrite the computer one just like the iPad did (would it be so **** hard to give you a choice on the phone as to which overwrites which!). After all the advice on the internet failed, I got the bright idea to completely delete all the ones on the phone and if it was empty of contacts the computer one could be exported to it. Not as simple as it sounds. First I backed up (I think) my computer contacts list. Numerous futile attempts to go through the phone options to globally delete all contacts did not work - they gave a warning message and you got to choose whether to continue or not, I did, and it looked like it might be working as it changed to zero data on the phone, but then they all popped back up again from God knows where from, but without their little added bits like pictures of the people. So, I tried un- syncing the darn phone from google and then deleting them globally. That didn't work either. I tried deleting them all again and again and google would crash and not let me do it. It is absolutely ridiculous that this is so damned difficult to do (especially if you are not computer savvy) and that you cannot choose which device overwrites which when syncing. I gave up and ticked sync with Google again (not that it appears to do anything to the phone contact list at all). So after 5 hours I am back to where I started from, with a phone showing all the same incorrect contacts (but the pictures are back), which wants to overwrite the computer if I try any sort of sync, and no way to fix them except go into each one manually and try and do it - and how long would that take (and I've already wasted hours and hours fixing scrambled contact lists!). I think I will do a print out of the computer contact list and just carry it around with me like an address book - so much bloody simpler. So now I have a headache, am fighting an overwhelming urge to hurl the phone at the wall, hoping for a heat wave to evaporate icloud things and am wishing I had bought an iPhone instead of the stupid HTC Android. Can any one offer me any suggestions on how to get rid of the contacts on my phone and replace them with the ones in my mac address list - hopefully after that they can sync to their hearts content and not stuff everything up again (which was why I unsynced google a while back - because the phone's list kept making stuff ups and scrambling and duplicating my computer contacts list). Am I the only one on the planet having this problem or is there someone else out there who has had it and solved it.

Without "pretending" to be yourself on the other phone (change settings) there's nothing else you can do.
iOS devices are meant to be single user and can't view iCloud.com the same way a Mac or PC can do.
You need to find a desktop or laptop machine (Mac or PC) to log in at iCloud.

Next time you start up...
Open Audio Midi Setup in Applications>Utilities, see the input & output options & KHz setting there, some things will change it for their own use, then not set it back.

How to make Mac side files shared

I'm not sure if this is the right sub-forum for this question but here goes.
I have MacDrive installed on my XP partition which works perfectly but when the machine is booted into XP I want certain Mac-side folders to be available via the XP's partition in other Macs' Shared menus in a Finder window's sidebar.
At the moment all that appears is a folder named SharedDocs which contains My Music, My Pictures and My Videos. Where I can I put a shortcut/alias to one of the mac-side folders to make it available here and can I do this for all XP users whether they are administrators or not ?

Anyways what you ned to do is select the folder you want to share in windows explorer.
Right click and select sharing and security.
Click sharing tab and tick the share this folder on a network and the folder will now show in the finder.
You can also simply create more folders in the shared documents folder and save/swap files.

I have a Gestetner 3235PCL printer at the office. The printer is on IP address 192.168.1.10 using Port 9101.
I can't seem to find a way to make the computer print to anything but the default port.
Any ideas if this is possible using a Mac?

Bruce is correct, but be certain you select IP > HP Jetdirect-Socket. Then enter the IP address with the port number separated by a colon " : ".
You could also use the CUPS web page to add the printer. At the Device menu, select 'Appsocket/HP Jetdirect' and then at the Device URI menu, after socket you can enter the IP address with port 9101, such as
socket://ip_address:9101/
Do you know if the printer is using a Fiery controller? I know the Fiery's offer three ports alternate to 9100 so that you can connect to a specific queue. 9100 will print to whatever has been selected as the default queue in the controller config, such as print, while 9101, 9102 and 9103 are the direct, print and hold queues respectively.
