How to make Mac OS X Server auto-configure Airport Extreme port-mapping

Mac OS X Server can automatically configure AirPort Extreme to make services such as iChat, Mail, Web, and VPN accessible: http://www.apple.com/server/macosx/features/networking-vpn.html
I presume this configuration generally takes place during a fresh installation of the server.
Is there any way to re-run this process post-installation?

That page talks about Snow Leopard's Networking abilities, not Leopards.
Off hand, I don't know whether what you describe is a new feature in Snow Leopard or not, but I've never seen Leopard do it (and, to be honest, wouldn't want to).
In either case, it's basically just Bonjour telling the router to configure port forwarding. Given that, I'd start by enabling mod_bonjour in Apache:
#LoadModule bonjour_module libexec/apache2/mod_bonjour.so
but I don't know how other processes are doing it.

Wifi where I live.  Need Mac pro on net.  Have airport extreme.  Does apple disable this for marketing reasons to sell wifi internal card?  Or, can I use what I have?  Thanks!  Using Lion
BTW. Mac is less stable with Lion!!!!  Like using microsoft used to be :-(

2009 and earlier Mac Pros did not include a Wi-Fi card in the standard configuration.
Check the System Information app (in the Utilities folder) -> Network -> Wi-Fi and see if it indicates a wireless card is installed.

The video clip is a single screen capture video clip. This is what I've found by playing around with this more.
The original clip resolution is greater than 640x480. If I use QT Pro to convert the original clip to 640x480 and then use either Flip4Mac or PE7, then the resolution looks good.
Just trying to figure out if should keep all workflow on the MacOS side. There are several different version of Flip4Mac. $49 gives me 640x480, but if I ever want to make it slightly larger then I would need to go with the $99 or HD version.
I also tried to export to AVI with QT Pro and the import with Windows MovieMaker but it didn't work really good. I liked the simplicity (since PE7 hogs a lot of resources especially through VMWare).

  • Open AirPort Extreme ports  for directv whole home access, need 8080, 8843, 1701.  How do I make these changes?

My Directv Whole Home system is not recognized by my AirPort Extreme.  The Directv tech recommended making changes in my AirPort firewall opening ports 8080, 8843, and 1701.  Any suggestions would be appreciated.

The following are the basics for setting up one of the 802.11n AirPorts for port mapping/forwarding:
    AEBSn - Port Mapping Setup
To setup port mapping on an 802.11n AirPort Extreme Base Station (AEBSn), either connect to the AEBSn's wireless network or temporarily connect directly, using an Ethernet cable, to one of the LAN port of the AEBSn, and then use the AirPort Utility, in Manual Setup, to make these settings:
    1. Reserve a DHCP-provided IP address for the DirectTV device.
AirPort Utility > Select the AEBSn > Manual Setup > Internet > DHCP tab
On the DHCP tab, click the "+" (Add) button to enter DHCP Reservations.
Description: <enter the desired description of the host device>
    Reserve address by: MAC Address
    Click Continue.
MAC Address: <enter the MAC hardware address of the host computer>
    IPv4 Address: <enter the desired IP address>
    Click Done.
    2. Setup Port Mapping on the AEBSn.
AirPort Utility > Select the AEBSn > Manual Setup >Advanced > Port Mapping tab
    Click the "+" (Add) button
Service: <choose the appropriate service from the Service pop-up menu>
Public UDP Port(s): <enter the appropriate UDP port values>
Public TCP Port(s): <enter the appropriate TCP port values>
Private IP Address: <enter the IP address of the host server>
Private UDP Port(s): <enter the same as Public UDP Ports or your choice>
Private TCP Port(s): <enter the same as Public TCP Ports or your choice>
    Click "Continue"

  • How do I access external hard drive connected to AirPort Extreme via iPad

    Hello,
How do I access external hard drive connected to AirPort Extreme via iPad / windows laptop.
I donot have a Mac and I use windows laptop.

For your iPad, you will need an app, like FileBrowser, to access the external drive.
For your Windows laptop, you would access the drive like any other network share. The basic format is: \\<servername>\<sharename>, where, in this case, the servername is the base station name and the sharename is the name of the external drive.

  • HOW DO I CONFIGURE  AIRPORT EXTREME TO ENABLE HP EPRINT

HOW DO I CONFIGURE  AIRPORT EXTREME TO ENABLE HP EPRINT

Thank you.  Before seeing your message, I uninstalled the printer and reinstalled it on my Airport Extreme with WIFI protected setup using the PIN provided by the printer.  Next I followed instructions  from HP saying I should disable the eprint on the printer and epring on the embedded web server should be turned off. I did both and went about my work until I saw your email.  Upon seeing your message, I went to the HP OfficeJet 6700 Premium printer and enabled web services, then went to the console of nearby MacMini, clicked on the printer icon in the dock, clicked "settings" and clicked "show printer webpage" and the on the printer webpage, I went to "eprint" tab, turned it on and for the first time EVER, I heard  the connecting chime and saw a green check mark on the web instead of a red x. I returned to printer console, answered the questions and printed the instrucitons, logged into HPeprint center through Safari  and changed my password for this printer on the HP ePrint center using the code  receive on the instruction page.   Everything looks good to go.
Thanks for the advice on the caps. I really did not intend to send the question at all.  Glad I did.

  • How come my iMac and MacBook connect to my AirPort Extreme but my iPhone and iPad 2 won't?

How come my iMac and MacBook connect to my AirPort Extreme but my iPhone and iPad 2 don't?

Sorry, I should have been more clear. I am asking if the DNS IP addresses, not the IP addresses assigned by the DHCP service, are the same. DNS is like the Internet's version of the Yellow Pages. Your ISP typically will provide them to you or you can elect to use those provided by another source, like OpenDNS.
DNS is the service that translates a website's URL to its actual IP address so that you can access it. I am just trying to rule out that the PC is not configured properly with the correct DNS IP information.
The other thing to check is if the PC is configured to use a Proxy service. By default, it would not be.
Finally, what is the make & model of the PC. More importantly, if the PC is using either a PCI or USB wireless adapter, what is its make & model?

Thanks for the info.  On your Mac......
Open Macintosh HD > Applications > Utilities > AirPort Utility
Click on the picture of the AirPort Extreme
Click Edit in the smaller window that appears
Click the Wireless tab at the top of the next window that appears
Edit/backspace out the Wireless Network Name and type in a new name that you want to use
Click Update at the lower right of the window
Wait a full minute for the AirPort Extreme to restart

The new network that you named will use the same network password that you set up originally.

  • How to connect old aiport express to my new Airport Extreme? My Ipad says "base station e5713b cannot be configured" and my AirPort tool on my PC will not permit me to add my new Airport Extreme network (no network names to choose from)

How to connect old aiport express to my new Airport Extreme?
I have a PC running with Win7 and just replaced my Jensen With a brand New Airport Extreme.
I have set up the Airport Extreme to the internet, Iphones and Ipads and it work as it should.
I have downloaded latest Version of Airport tool on my PC. In addition i have downloaded the airport tool for Ipad.
I have reset one of my airport Express and it now shows up both on the Ipad and on the PC airport tool.
My Ipad says "base station e5713b cannot be configured."
I have wired the airport Express to my Ethernet to be able to "see it" on my Airport tool.
My AirPort tool on the PC will not permit me to add the airport Express to my new Airport Extreme network (no network names on the drop-down list to choose from). I wished for an easy set-up, but nothing seems to be plug and play as the Commercial says.. can you please help me?
    Sigve

    Hi
    Thanks for Swift reply.
Yep - I in fact have two A1088 and one A1264
I actually bought the new router because the Jensen
router always lost connection to the Airport Express after some hours or days. I
always needed to restart my Jensen to play music and that was driving my wife
mad. The hope was that the Extreme should fix this. Both A1088 have been set up
to only stream music to two of my stereo amplifiers from my PC’s Itunes library.
    Are the A1088 now useless?
The A1264 has been set up to feed internet into a Denon Reciever that needed Ethernet cable.
    Please advise
    Regards
    Sigve

  • How to divide Mac OS X Server for two users?

How can I make Mac OS X (Tiger) server to serve two separate users separately. What I mean is that server should have separate places for testing various stuff on it and room for presentations and such stuff. They should be separately so I wouldn't mess up something with presentation part. Should I create virtual disk or make some kind of dual boot for it and how should I do it. I hope the text is understandable.

It's not clear at all what you are trying to do.
Mac OS X Server is not designed to be used with
multiple logins at the computer itself, unlike OS X
"client" (the standard, non-server Mac OS X).
Why are you running OS X Server, it sounds like what
you want is regular Mac OS X (client, not server) and
    multiple local user accounts.
If you want the features that Mac OS X server
offers (file services with users & groups and
    granular permissions (via ACLs), centralized
authentication, NetBoot, etc. , then perhaps start by
    reading the documentation:
    http://www.apple.com/server/documentation/
I want to set up Debian Linux on My Mac OS X Server and make it into dual boot machine is it possible at all???I have made separate partitions for Mac OS X and Linux on the server.

Hello Thanks for your replys and sorry for being so fussy about this.
I have now seen that one of the options for exporting from Premiere 6.5 is Adobe MPEG encoder. So Do you guys think it would be a good idea to do it with that, Or Would it be better AVI or DV AVI compressor from Premiere before making the DVD?
I have the Nero Vision 4.9.6.6  But I may be able to look for another one if you think it is better...
Thanks a lot for your advises...

  • While using mac as wireless router ; How to make Mac sleep?

    Hi all.
I set up my macbook to act as a wireless router [sharing it's wireless signal, via the "Sharing" settings in System Preferences]
    using this guide
    http://www.macinstruct.com/node/118
I am wondering how to make my mac sleep while this wireless-sharing setting is enabled?
Since I have enabled this setting, the mac will not sleep, however, the mac will sleep when I disable it.
I am also wondering ; [if it is possible to make the mac sleep while this setting is enabled], can I still use the mac as a wireless router even while it is asleep?
Or does it need to be awake to function as a router?
Thanks very much in advance for any help!

Thank you very much everybody for your answers.
    Dominic23
    and
    BobTheFisherman
Yes, I kind of thought what you are saying would be the case.
It makes "sense" that when the computer is asleep, so are all it's functions,
but I *WISH* there was an option to keep the airport functioning even while the computer is asleep.
Bob, I don't think having the OPTION to leave the airport on while mac sleeps would defeat the power-saving feature of the computer (:
I know the "best" way to share wifi is with a router, but for me, a router just another piece of plastic I don't need. All I need to do is share wifi in a small space [my room] from my mac to my iPad and ipod touch.
I like to use my ipad as a reader, and when I am reading, I may be sitting down for many hours just reading from the ipad. It doesn't make sense to leave the mac running during these long periods just for a wireless signal, so I may sadly buy a router ):
Anyway, I get what you are all saying, and thank you for telling me the current limits of this function.
    Cheers! (:
