How to make Mail always open links behind Mail?

Love how you can right click and Open a Link Behind Mail in Apple Mail - is there any way to make this behavior the default?
Using Mail to do all my RSS-ing and click a lot of links - just want them to stack up behind mail (in tabs) then I can exit (hide) Mail and go browse and click away into oblivion.
Any clues?

Ha, answered my own question - thought, what happens if I Command-Click html links in Mail - sure enough they open in Firefox (my default browser) in the background behind Mail. Very nice

  • "open links behind mail" feature doesn't work

Since migrating to Yosemite, I can no longer  use "open links behind mail" feature.
The links do open directly to Safari or Chrome on top of mail.
But the "Open links behind mail" won't launch, regardless if the browser is open or not. I see it, it clicks, but nada... nothing ;-(
This feature always worked before migrating to Yosemite.
    Any suggestions?

  • Open links behind mail

Since migrating to Yosemite, I can no longer  use "open links behind mail" feature.  Apparently this is a bug and I see complaints about it going back to Oct 2013 at least.  Does anyone know if Apple EVER fixed this problem?

Bad syntax on my part. It's the right click Contextual menu. But I use it so much it's a shortcut for me, Sorry for the improper terminology.
No problem. I just wanted to make sure I wasn't missing something. I thought that maybe the problem was a missing shortcut which I was unaware of. I have the contextual menu, and it works. If there was a shortcut, I didn't have it and thought that maybe that was what everybody is having a problem with.
Do you have the contextual menu item? Or does it just not work? I've seen some posts where the contextual menu is missing altogether.

  • Mail won't "open link behind mail" in Mavericks

Is anyone else having this problem?  I get weekly digests from a number of groups as well as google alerts.  My usual workflow is to read through the digest right-clicking on any links that I am interested in and selecting "open link behind mail".  When I do this in Mavericks... nothing happens!  Safari opens but it does not load the page.  so that means that now I am stuck swiping backwards and forwards between Safari and mail - opening a link, then back to mail to open the next one.

I have the same problem with mail that I receive from LinkedIn groups that I follow. I found that if you press and hold the Command and Option keys when you click a link it will open behind mail, in Safari.

  • I am unable to "open link behind mail" using Mac Mail now. It used to work fine, and just clicking works but not right clicking to open behind mail. Please help

This used to work on my Mac using Firefox and Mac Mail but now it doesn't. Opening regular links are unaffected. I can still click and open easily. This only happens when I try to use the feature, to open links behind mail. When I right click nothing happens. Nothing is opened.

    Hi GetPaulHoward,
Thank you for posting your question to the SUMO support forum, however I am not sure this pretains to Mozilla. There is a help forum you can contact at Apple.

  • Mavericks "open link behind mail" broken?

In Mail, "open link behind mail" <option/control-click> doesn't open a tab (or window) in Safari under Mavericks as it did in 10.8. Is there a workaround? Thanks!

For me after the recent Mail update, some (but not all) still don't work when right-clicked and either "Open Link" or "Open Link Behind Mail" are selected. My digest e-mails from Salon.com are especially bad. They will open in my browser when double-clicked, so the problem is just a minor glitch. The nuisance of doing that is the browser becomes the active app, and then I have to return to Mail to continue reading messages.

  • Mail won't "open link behind mail" in Yosemite

I'm working on a MacBook Pro, late 2013, with a new upgrade of OS X 10.10 (Mail 8.0). I often have messages from lists that contain links (primarily reading curation or newsletters from NYT, the Guardian, NextDraft, etc) where it's most convenient for me to, with one hand, bring up the contextual menu and select "open link behind Mail". It worked inconsistently before and, now with the upgrade to Yosemite, does not work at all.
I know that Command-click (and, oddly, Shift-Command click, or Option-Command click) both do the same thing, but it takes two hands, and there is no feedback (arguably there is no feedback with the contextual menu, but the double-blink of the menu item when selected at least suggests action).
My recollection is that this worked inconsistently at least since Mountain Lion. I'm curious if others have the problem, and more curious about possible solutions.

Send Apple feedback. They won't answer, but at least will know there is a problem. If enough people send feedback, it may get the problem solved sooner.

  • How to ALWAYS open links in new tabs on IE10, desktop version? Settings Internet Options Tabs seems incomplete......

Hello, I know variations of this question have been asked already, but I'm not finding answers that seem to actually work.
For example, if I click on a link in my Favorites Bar or in my Favorites, they open in the already open tab, not in a new tab.
This is not the case for Firefox; in FF they always open in a new tab. In previous versions of IE there were plugins that enabled this feature, but in IE10, Desktop version, all we seem to have are the tab options in settings. I have tried setting it
to always open in new tabs, and in new a new window, but nothing works.
Please don't mention keyboard shortcuts, as that doesn't seem intuitive; who wants to remind themselves to use the shortcut every time?
And yes, I know I could go back to FF, but I'm not a quitter! I want to like IE10, and I'm willing to give it a chance in spite of a few shortcomings.
Is there a plugin or registry hack to really really really make IE10 ALWAYS open links in new tabs?

    Hi,
As far as I know, the behaviors of clicking some links are different due to how they are designed for some websites; there should be some purposes about why they are designed in such
way. There might be no other way to achieve this in Internet Explorer. Please understand that Internet Explorer and Firefox are different, such as on how they are designed and how they work; and Firefox needs an add-on to do this.
In Internet Explorer, there are many shortcut keys to reduce the operations and make it easier to use; I think you can have a try. I would like to share the following with you for your reference:

  • How to make a magnifying glass link to a look up table ?

    Dear Friends,
Hello. I am developing the accounting application of journal entry. In journal line, I use the image "magnifying glass" next to each chart field. When we click on the magnifying glass, it's supposed to come up a look up table( a chart and name mapping table), and we select the proper chart to input into the chart field.
I understand to create another record and page for the look up table. But I don't understand how to make a magnifying glass link to a look up table. Can anybody tell me how to do that ? Thanks.
    Lucy

    This is how it works,
Table A (which stores chart fields). You have used fields from table A on a page so that users can input data.
You don't need to put a magnifying glass image or create a new page to achieve look up page.
all you need to do is create another table say Table B which should have the chart field and corresponding description you want to show on lookup page. Then open record-field property of the chart field on Table A and mention Table B as prompt table.

  • How to make a safe copy of all mails or to export these?

Hello, I'n newbie on Mac OS X. I've been wondering how to make a safe copy of all mails in my inbox or to export all of them, like on Outlook with the function "Export". I don't find such function under MAIL. Can you please help me? Thanks
    Best regards.

    Hi
    Welcome to Mac Computing.
The folder holding your e-mail plus mailboxes etc. is located (via the Finder) in your User Account>Library>Mail folder. You can copy this folder to external media, such as another hard drive, or CD/DVD.
If you want to save specific e-mails, follow these directions from Mail's Help section (Help Menu):
    Exporting email messages:
You can save one or more messages as a separate file to archive messages or to import the contents into another application. You can open the saved message in TextEdit.
Open the message you want to export.
Choose File > Save As, and enter a name for the file.
Choose a location for the file from the Where pop-up menu.
Choose a format from the pop-up menu.
If you choose Rich Text Format, the text formatting of the message will be visible.
If you choose Plain Text, the colors, fonts, and other formatting will be lost.
If you choose Raw Message Source, the full delivery headers will be visible. If the message has attachments, you'll only see the encoded version of the attached files.
A Good way to familiarize yourself with OS X is to pick up a copy of Scott Kelby's book OS X Tiger: Killer Tips.

  • Mail on MacBook won't open hyperlinks behind mail.

After updating to Yosemite 10.10.2 I no longer can open hyperlinks behind Mail. I can open them by clicking on them which takes me directly to the web page, however, some emails have multiple links which I wish to open without leaving Mail first. Prior to the OS upgrade this problem would occur with a few emails but now it happens with all emails.

    LadyC,
Quit/Force Quit Calendar, then paste this text ~/Library into the Finder>Go>Go to Folder...window and select "Go." This will open the Users Library Folder.
Next open the Calendars and move any any files with "Cache" listed in the name field to your Desktop.
Also open the Preferences Folder in the same Library, and move the com.apple.iCal.plist file to the Desktop.
Log out/in or restart, and open Calendar.

  • How to make site root-relative links work in DW and Server both?

See details on buggy DW image link behavior, below. My question is:
    1) how to make site root-relative links work in DW and Server both? Or…
    2) how to reliably automate the change of several hundred legacy root-relative links of the form
    /images/image.jpg  to document-relative?
    That is, to
    ../images/image.jpg or
    ../../images/image.jpg or
../../../images/image.jpg etc…depending on where the directory is.
The old format (/images/image.jpg ) used to work fine in my previous DW 8 configuration but appear grey in DW after “upgrading” to DW cs5.5 mac. (they look fine on the server, but it’s hard to edit image-heavy pages locally when they are all grey).
I tried changing the files to how DW creates root relative links now:
/public_html/images/image.jpg, which is a very easy, attractive root flow since there’s a one-to-one mapping. These look great in DW but are broken on the server!
I looked at the “advanced” site setup, and it looked like it might be possible to nuke the /public_html/ part of my server info…but it also looked like there was the potential for doing damage changing these settings, which are automatically generated from our server connection settings, which seem to work.
The “links relative to document/ site root” toggle…does that change how DW interprets existing links, or just change the default when you are adding a link?  I have made 80% of the file links document relative…before wondering if root-relative isn’t better?
It sure seems less ambiguous for all those images if theres a way to make root relative work for DW design view, DW link check, and server.
Summary of buggy behavior: (see test with images here)
    "old style" site root link
          /images/img_book/WScover120x150_NEW.jpg
Design veiw in DW: broken (grey w/ broken icon)
Link check in DW: "external link" (i.e., uncheckable, + file could appear orphaned)
          Browser: good
Ease of switching: n/a (existing format)
"new style" site root relative link
          /public_html/images/img_book/WScover120x150_NEW.jpg
          Design veiw in DW: good
          Link check in DW: good
          Browser: broken
          Ease of switching: easy
    Document relative link
          ../../images/img_book/WScover120x150_NEW.jpg
          Design veiw in DW: good
          Link check in DW: good
          Browser: good
Ease of switching: hard (how to automate?)

    Hello again Jon!
    Thanks for jumping on this.
All clear and understood about where publc_html is etc.
No contemplation of nuking the actual public_html directory on the server, just the "/public_html" text string at the start of the DW-generated links.
"/public_html" is automatically added to the front of the link in DW if I create the link with any of the GUI tools, if I have "site root relative" selected. And ""/public_html" ends up in the code, and gets uploaded that way to the server, where it (obviously) doesn't work.
Doesn't sound like it is supposed to work this way. Also, what seems to be the usual root relative format (/images/image.jpg) shows as a broken link in the GUI and an external link in the DW link check. All this togther makes me thinkI have some obscure setting incorrect?
The setting that caught my eye is manage sites/ site setup/ advance settings/ local info/ web url,  which is automatically set to http://www.oasisdesign.net/public_html/
it gives an option to change it but it makes every effort to make this NOT look like something users should mess with:
Having gone through the more careful thought process during this post, I'm ready to do the experiment of changing the remote server web URL (why is it wrong by default?)...think I'll eat dinner first so there's 45 min to avert disaster if anyone knows this to be a bad idea!
    Art
PS--don't  have a local testing server...don't think this will solve the GUI broken link/ link shows as external problems.
Is there an easy, automated way to change links sitewide from document to root relative?

  • Not opening links from mail - firefox turns grey at bottom

firefox usually opens links from "mail" in a new tab. Sometimes
firefox greys out and will not allow links to open. Clearing history
or restarting firefox solves the problem somettimes. Multiple restarts
    may be required.

I suggest you to file a bug report regarding this issue: https://bugreport.apple.com/
I can confirm that Safari has serious issues with opening links from other applications. For example Content Guide links in Quicktime Player opens empty windows.
