How to make mail and safari

Dear Any one,
I am sick and tired of putting commands such as sudo launchctl unload -w /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/com.apple.discoveryd.plist etc. as I saw them in a discussion here
My Mail, Safari and all things don't work and I can't be connected to the internet. I am doing this through Chrome as it only works without any issues.
Please help
Apple should test this issue before releasing a new OS. Don't let third party apps etc. overpower the system so that system preferences changes.

  • How to restore Mail and Safari from TM

Here's the background... I posed this question earlier today...
Just got my daughter a new 2.4GHz/160GB HDD/Wht Macbook for college. when she was running the initial setup for User/Account/Shortcut name she input her email user name as her shortcut account name (the name that appears in Finder under Places with the house icon).
Question is - can the name she enter that appears in Finder under Places with the house icon be changed or renamed??
Niel answered/solved the question via the following instruction:
Open the Accounts pane of System Preferences, release the padlock, control-click her name, choose Advanced Options, and change the settings.
    end background info.
So, being the idiot Dad that I am... I decide to do the same on my 2 year old iMac (that was working wonderfully I might add) only to find out that my ALL my mail and associated folders "On My Mac" disappeared as well as ALL my Safari bookmarks, Dock, Menu Bar and you knows what else changed and/or dissappeared. Its like the system did an OS reset. YIKES! Niel's instruction didn't indicate this... not that it's his fault - its mine! Niel's instruction worked fine on a NEW Mac, but changed things terribly on my 2yr iMac.
So "my" question is - how can I recover from this??
Did multiple TM backups on 7/12/08. went to restore latest 7/12/08 backup but wasn't really sure what to backup. I hope I'm not messed up and can recover from this. My name change was so minor I feel like an idiot for doing it and these discussion groups have ALWAYS helped. So please - HELP me again. Can I or should I do a complete system restore to get me back or does this apparent OS reset mean I'm screwed? Also, never done a restore yet, so I'm kind of worried I'll make things worse. I LOVED my machine before I made the change and would LOVE to get back. Any and all input welcomed.
    Signed,
    Dummy Daddy

Should I call you Daddy, or just Dummy? (LOL),
You have one of two options. If you really want to use the new name, you can do so, but it will entail using the command line (Terminal). It's a pretty easy thing to do, though.
Another option is to just go back to the "Accounts" pane, and reverse the change you made.
Your old HOME folder, along with all the things you are now missing, is still there. If you have any doubts, look in the "Users" folder for it. Do not "monkey" with it until you decide which of the above options you would like to use.
Post back with your choice, and I'll provide instructions.

  • Safari and 10.6.2 upgrade. Mail and Safari will not open.

I upgraded to 10.6.2 and Safari. Now I cannot open my Mail or Safari. I get a message that says it Unexpectedly Quit. I see in the details it says unable to gather system configuration information. Does anybody have an idea how to fix this?

    HI,
    Try deleting this file.
    com.apple.launchservices.plist
    ~/Library/Preferences.
Move that file to the Trash, restart your Mac and try to launc Mail and Safari. If that doesn't help...
Download and install the Mac OS X v10.6.2 Update (Combo)
It's ok to do this even though you are running 10.6.2. Make sure and repair disk permissions after the installation.
Quit any open applications/programs. Launch Disk Utility. (Applications/Utilities) Select MacintoshHD in the panel on the left, select the FirstAid tab. Click: Repair Disk Permissions. When it's finished from the Menu Bar, Quit Disk Utility and restart your Mac. If you see a long list of "messages" in the permissions window, it's ok. That can be ignored. As long as you see, "Permissions Repair Complete" when it's finished... you're done. Quit Disk Utility and restart your Mac.

  • Mail and Safari still freeze all the time-help

Even with the latest Mavericks updates, Apple mail and Safari freeze contstantly to the point that I can't send email or use Safari. I had after the initial mavericks release gotten mail to function by shutting off 2 Gmail accounts I had on my MacPro. After the update that supposedly fixed the Gmail issues, I turned on my Gmail accounts and Mail started freezing almost immediately on startup. Was able to get in and shut the accounts don again, but Mail keeps freezing. I even removed the Gmail accounts from Mail prefs, but that didn't help either. I can usually get Mail to launch and for the most part can read email, but if I try to respond, once i type and email and try to send, Mail freezes and I have to force quit. Once Mail hangs Safari hangs shortly thereafter or if it's not even launched I can't launch.
I have been using macs for a long time and have never had such a bad time with an upgrade. Have tried most of the solutions posted, and am baffled as to how to make things work.
    Any suggestions welcome.

  • Mail and Safari no longer connect to the Internet, but connection is live?

I have a Quicksilver G4 running OSX 10.4.11 with Safari 3.0.4 and Mail 2.1.3, connected to the Internet via Ethernet and a BT home Hub setup. Recently the Mac refused to connect to the Internet although a PC connected to the same hub did. I tested the connection with a laptop and found the cable to be fine and a good connection. I ran system diagnostics which tells me the Mac is connected to the Internet and the connection is fine - except that Mail no longer sends or receives mail, and Safari tells me I am not connected to the Internet.
I've tried every test I can think of - the connection appears fine as far as the ethernet cable, Network Diagnostics state that I have a good connection, yet neither application will connect to the server. I have changed no software in years other than Apple updates, and this is the first problem in many months of trouble-free usage.
The BT Home Hub is showing as an active location in system profiler, all else that should be, appears enabled. Can anyone help?
What more can I do to get my Mac back on-line?

    Hi Heather,
In System Preferences>Network>Proxies Tab, make sure none are checked ON.
Then... Try putting these numbers in Network>TCP/IP>DNS Servers, for the Airport Interface...
    208.67.222.222

    Then Apply
DNS Servers are a bit like Phone books where you look up a name and it gives you the phone number, in our case, you put in apple.com and it comes back with 17.149.160.49 behind the scenes.
So if you put 17.149.160.49 in Safari's URL bar & it connects to Apple, then these DNS numbers should cure it.

  • How to make Mail stop marking messages from my Contacts as Junk?

I use Mail to access both my Gmail and Mac mail. Mail has begun marking as Junk messages from my Contacts, including VIPs. In Preferences, I have checked the boxes to have Contacts and Previous Recipients exempt from email filtering, yet they still sometimes end up marked as Junk and sent to the Junk folder. These are all Gmail messages: I use my iCloud account very little. I've unchecked the Trust junk mail headers... and Filter junk mail before applying my rules. I don't see how to make Mail leave my Gmail alone! Can anyone help?

Google recommends turning off Apple mail Junk filters if using gmail filters.

  • Images appear as a question mark in mail and safari

I have just noticed a new problem in Mail and Safari.  "Some" emails that contain pictures that are links are suddenly only showing the images as a small blue square with a question mark.   If I click the "view this email in your browser" link in Mail it opens in Safari but with the same problem!  Then if I paste the URL into Firefox or Chrome the email is displayed correctly.   The email is also displayed correctly on my iPhone 6.   I really can't figure out what has changed as it is has effected emails that are filed and that displayed correctly before.   Any help appreciated.  Many thanks Phil.

Is this perhaps an iCloud email account?
    iCloud’s Junk Filter
As of April 2015, Apple has made its iCloud server junk filter much more aggressive. It is putting a lot more spam messages (and also some good ones) into the Junk mailbox. It also deletes some messages so that they do not appear in any mailbox. This affects all icloud.com, mac.com, and me.com e-mail accounts.
There is no way to turn off iCloud’s junk filter and prevent it from putting messages in the Junk mailbox. There are, however, various ways to make SpamSieve put its spam into the same mailbox that iCloud’s junk filter uses. SpamSieve can even re-filter the messages in the Junk mailbox to rescue good messages that iCloud put there. However, there is no way to rescue messages that were deleted without being saved into a mailbox. Since iCloud’s junk filter cannot be disabled, your only choice is whether or not to use iCloud’s mail service as a whole. If iCloud is not meeting your needs, we recommend switching to a different mail provider.
If it's not an iCloud email account, download the demo for Postbox and see if it will display correctly. Reasonably priced at $9.95.

  • New MacBook Air backed up from my Time Capsule.  Now Mail and Safari won't open, I just bought a new MacBook Air and backed up from my Time Capsule.  Now Mail and Safari won't open

I just bought a new MacBook Air after my old one suffered a drink being spilled on it and died.  I used migration assistant to back up from my time capsule but now it won't open Mail or Safari and iTunes can't find all my music.  Any ideas how to fix this? I have downloaded software updates.

Thanks for that advice however now I have a duplicate of all my documents on my hard drive but the Mail and Safari will not open.  I have been able to open iTunes. I have tried to download software updates for Mail and Safari and this tells me that the download was unsuccessful ( after taking some time to download).  Can I reinstall the system?  Would that help?

  • Mail and safari crash after update to 10.4.10

I have recently installed the update to Tiger (OSX 10.4.10) and ever since I have installed the update I have a problem with both Mail and Safari. In Safari the browser just closes (no dialog pops up, it's as if I'd just quit it). This doesn't have a particular point when it closes, it could be after as little as 5 seconds, or as much as an hour or so.
Safari does something similar however it is only when I click "New" or Forward/Reply, to create a new email, it just closes. It recieves and opens emails normally.
I don't know what I can do, so far I've had no luck finding anyone else with this problem. However I need my email for work, so it's getting quite a problem.
As a note using Fire-Fox I don't have any problems with programs closing, it is only these two programs.

Problems arising right after installing a system update are usually the result of the problem already being there, or some filesystem corruption that should have been fixed first, or not having installed the update properly (e.g. applications running while installing it), or having ignored Apple’s “Important: Please read before installing” warnings, etc.
Quit all the applications and verify/repair the startup disk (not just permissions), as described here:
The Repair functions of Disk Utility: what's it all about?
After having fixed all the filesystem issues, if any, if you’ve installed Safari 3 Beta, uninstall that first, then reinstall the Combo Update for the type of computer and the version of Mac OS X you’re using, unless this is the version of Mac OS X that came with the computer:
About the Mac OS X 10.4.10 Combo Update
Mac OS X 10.4.10 Combo Update for PowerPC
Mac OS X 10.4.10 Combo Update for Intel
After installing the Combo Update, the computer may restart twice and the first restart may take several minutes. This is normal.
If you installed the latest Security Update, you may need to reinstall that as well:
    Security Update 2007-006 (Universal)
Take a look at the following articles for guidelines on how to properly install system updates:
    Troubleshooting installation and software updates
    Installing software updates
Basically, you should verify/repair the startup disk and back up before installing the update, no applications should be running while installing it, and you may experience unexpected results if you have third-party system software modifications (not normal applications) installed.
BTW, please update the Operating System field on your My Settings’s profile (and click Save), so that the version of Mac OS X you’re running now automatically appears in all your posts and not just in some of them.

  • Mail (and Safari) won't open after Security Update 2007-004

I have a PowerBook G4 running 10.3.9. The machine was running fine (I was checking mail, browsing the web) when my weekly scheduled update opened. Per it's suggestion, I installed Security Update 2007-004.
Upon restart, both Mail and Safari will NOT open. The icon for each on the dock simply "bounces" once when clicked then nothing else. Has anyone else experienced anything similar? Any thoughts on a fix?

Installing a system update while you continue using the computer as if nothing was going on there is a really bad idea.

  • Since upgrading to Mavericks, I can't run Mail and Safari at the same time.

Since upgrading to Mavericks, I can't run Mail and Safari at the same time.
Either Mail will crash or the iMac will run so slowly as to be unusable. With both running, the HDD spins constantly at a high rate of speed.

Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
    Step 1
Make sure the title of the Console window is All Messages. If it isn't, select All Messages from the SYSTEM LOG QUERIES menu on the left. If you don't see that menu, select
    View ▹ Show Log List
    from the menu bar.
Enter the name of the crashed application or process in the Filter text field. Select the messages from the time of the last crash, if any. Copy them to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Paste into a reply to this message (command-V).
When posting a log extract, be selective. In most cases, a few dozen lines are more than enough.
Please do not indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.
Important: Some private information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Anonymize before posting.
    Step 2
In the Console window, look under User Diagnostic Reports for crash reports related to the crashed process. The report name starts with the name of the process, and ends with ".crash". Select the most recent report and post the entire contents — again, the text, not a screenshot. In the interest of privacy, I suggest that, before posting, you edit out the “Anonymous UUID,” a long string of letters, numbers, and dashes in the header of the report, if it’s present (it may not be.) Please don’t post shutdownStall, spin, or hang logs — they're very long and not helpful.

  • Mail and safari problem

Hi All busy week for the boards.
Has anyone come across this one? Was trying the Mail contents of page ideas for creating custom
mail and have found safari saying
"Safari couldn’t create an email message because it couldn’t locate an email application.""You can use the Mail application included with Mac OS X to send webpages. To do so, you need to install Mail using the Mac OS X installation CDs."
I have done the install of 10.5 which went smooth, then tried a seperate install of both mail and safari from the 10.5 disk but still nothing.
    Any ideas you gurus?

B, Genius, that did the trick. It was down as default but just selected it again and bingo, the warning
from safari went away, Had to restart mail though to make it all work but work it did.
Thnx so much, that one had me, It's guys like you on the boards that help make mac great
not just the genius of elJobso.

  • Mail and Safari say goodbye in Leopard

I installed Leopard and so far have encountered this problem: Mail and Safari will, although open and running, not open new windows. Regardless of how I try to open a new browser Safari just sits there. Same in Mail: after a while it just hangs, no windows can be opened, but new mail is received and diplayed in the dock mail icon. It seems to have to do with sleep mode, I first linked the problem to Time Machine, but the freeze still occurs although I switched Time Machine off.
    Any hints anyone?
If I log off and back on the programs will open correctly, just quitting them has no effect, i.e. no windows.

I am not alone with this problem. But thankfully, someone has already helped.

Anyone know when Apple plans to release 10.5.1? They better hurry.

  • Mail and safari not responding

Mail is not updating and both mail and safari show blank screen when touched. There is a general delay in 4s response to commands, phone is 2 weeks new, any help greatly appreciated

The errors that you found in Disk Utility may have led to your OS becoming corrupted. You may eventually need to reinstall the OS using an Archive and Install, but you do want to make a good backup before attempting this.
You might want to run the extended version of the Apple Hardware Test and see if you get anything in the form of an error code. If you do, then you have a hardware problem which Apple will need to fix under warranty.
If the AHT shows no problems, you might want to try running SMART Utility:
    http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/systemdiskutilities/smartutility.html
It is somewhat more critical than Disk Utility and may detect impending hard drive failure sooner than Disk Utility will. If your drive is actually failing, then it needs to be replaced. If your drive has started to fail, it could easily have developed the errors that Disk Utility repaired and caused software corruption. Remember that Disk Utility only repairs the drive's complex software--it cannot repair it physically.
You could also try creating a new user account to see if the problem is widespread or just in your main account.
If SMART Utility shows no problems, then the next step would be to try reinstalling the OS using the Archive and Install option.
    Good luck!

  • Mail and safari crashes and don't open

    mail and safari crash

    Hey petershohdy,
First, try force closing the two apps if they're running in the background:
    Double-click the Home button.
Swipe left or right until you have located the app you wish to close.
Swipe the app up to close it.
from: iOS: Force an app to close
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5137
And if that doesn't help, I would reset the device:
Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button together for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
from: iPhone, iPad, iPod touch: Turning off and on (restarting) and resetting
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1430
And if that doesn't resolve the issue then I would backup the device to iTunes and restore it. Just be cautious and back up first, since restoring deletes all content and settings:
