How to make my iMac boot directly to Mac, instead of trying to boot to Windows?

I tried to install Windows 7 with BootCamp yesterday but something didn't work well and I canceled. I deleted the (already made) partition and I thought that everything is fine. I got my missing GBs back but today as I turned on my iMac i was expecting to see it boot into Mac, instead it said "Trying to boot from disk - no disk ...(something..)" Then I restarted the iMac, held the "alt" key and 2 things showed up. One was Mac OS X Mountain Lion and the other was "Recovery 10.8..."
How can I make my Mac boot into the Mac OS X instead of trying to boot into the Windows that I thought i deleted?

In System Preferences>Startup Disk, what is available and what is selected?

Make sure you installed the correct RAM. Installing the wrong type will cause the system to become unstable and slow.

How to make Address Book photos appear in .Mac contacts?

How do you make the photos from your Address Book appear on your .Mac account? The new .Mac interface leaves space for photos in the contact cards, but I cannot figure out how to make the photos from my Address Book appear there. Is it possible to syncronize in a way that syncs photos too?

I have the same problem, my photo IDs from my computer Address Book will not sync with my .Mac account. I've asked two Creatives @ the Apple Store in Burlingame CA but they did not know the answer. I also ask the deminstrator of .Mac at MacWorld but when he accessed the Demo version at the show it too was void of pictures. All those who I've asked promassed to get back to me but hae not yet. My only conclusion is it doesn't work but may working in future versions. Does anyone have their .mac Address Book show the picture ID photo's from their computer version or know how to desplay these ID photo's on line?

How can I set up Boot Camp/Windows with 2 SSDs?

I've got a late 2011 Macbook Pro running Yosemite. I have boot camp running Windows 7 on my HDD but decided I would like to change some things up. I am going to remove the optical drive and put in a 256 gb SSD in it's place and also upgrade the 500 gb HDD to a 512 gb SSD. I am hoping to have the 512 gb SSD in the primary drive spot running OS X and the 256 gb SSD in the optical bay running Windows 7. I'm hoping to just be able to copy over the OS X partition on my current HDD to one SSD and the Windows 7 partition to the other SSD. Would this work? Also, if my 256 gb SSD in the optical bay only has Windows 7 loaded on it would my computer be able to boot up Windows 7 without problems or is there more to this than I anticipate?

Here is the update from my situation. I'm posting it here in hopes of helping people who may be looking to do something similar to what I did. I followed Loner T's instructions and it worked perfectly.
I was worried about installing Windows 7 on it's own hard drive and running it on mac hardware but everything worked out. After I initially installed Windows 7, I did notice that there were some problems with the screen being zoomed in and it failed to recognize stuff like my wireless hardware so I couldn't connect to any wifi signals. I rebooted into OS X and simply used the Boot Camp Assistant to download the latest Windows support software from Apple and put that on a thumb drive. I booted into Windows where it was still acting funny and ran the support software installer. After a few minutes it rebooted and everything was working exactly like it should and it recognized all the right hardware for wifi and everything!
For anyone looking at doing what I did with my MBP, please don't waste time trying to boot up Windows from an external drive. I have seen lots of stuff online about people struggling to get Windows to boot up from a USB drive or external optical drive and it makes the situation way more complicated. Just follow Loner T's process above and it will work.

I have recently bought X300 14U and I am trying load XP as a dual boot. I have used floppy, I have done everything in my power to dual boot.
Please could somebody help? I have checked the forum to see how to do it but it keeps on telling the same thing what I have done.
I have tried to ask Toshiba what chipset it is using but they are just guessing.
Could some please point in the right direction tell which store manger I need?
Which chip set and SATA drivers I need an how to apply these to make a successful dual boot with XP Pro SP2?

I don't understand why you mean this notebook must support everything. As I can see this notebook model is not supported for WXP and if you will install it successfully you will still missing important drivers, tools and utilities and you will not be able to use WXP as Vista.
On one side I understand you but other way to have WXP with limited functionality is also not the solution.

I am working on an iMac, OSX 10.8.1, and would like to have a file that, when it runs, sets the mouse tracking speed at 7 (assuming that the far left of the bar is 0), deselects 'natural scroll direction,' and, in Mission Control, deselects 'show dashboard as a space.' It needs to be something that can be run from a USB drive, as I will be using it on a computer system that resets itself daily. While I have some (basic, Windows and Fedora oriented) programming knowledge, I am unfamiliar with the Mac OS coding environment and scripting languages. Does anyone here know how to do this, or where I should look for someone who does?

How you make an ssd boot disk?

I'm considering a 6 core MacPro. I'll want to replace the internal 1 tb drive with an SSD boot drive on an OWC Accelsior PCIe SSD card. It'll be a pretty minimal config. Apps, data files and Time Machine will live on mirrored internal 4 TB Hitach Sata drives.
Is it doable to move the O.S. etc over to SSD and then remove the internal drive to free up the drive slot? If so, what's the best way?

How to make smb:// links open directly in Finder?

Hello,
When I click on an afp or ftp link (such as ftp://abcd.defg.com/xyz/ or afp://mac.local/xyz/), in my emails (Eudora), the request is transmitted to the Finder, and I end up with a window opened in the /xyz/ folder.
This is the case because the email client is informed to do so with these links.
However, when I click on an smb:// link (to reach a folder on a PC), then Safari is chosen be default, and can't do much more than opening a window with an error message, of course.
When I try to change this, the email client asks for a program to do smb (Finder I suppose), but then, Finder is a strange software. It is there:
/System/Library/CoreServices/Finder.app
But when I try to tell Eudora to take is as the app for smb:// links, its icon is grayed, looking like a document and not an app (when all other apps are recognised as such).
How can I solve this?
It would be VERY usefull for my co-workers to be able to go directly to an smb mount from their email message.

Sorry about the misgiving adresses, folders and access rights. My question is not about these three (they were just here to tell the story). You're perfectly right to say that in a local network, there's not need to complete the full IP or ".com" name of the PCs (even if it works all the same).
When I said "of course" for the perms, it was just to mean, in the same way, that it's not this kind of problems here.
My question is much more a human/mac graphic interface problem than a network problem. I want the people (as well as myself) to be able to go in a folder on the pc network with a simple click on an smb link in an email message (as they do now on an ftp or afp link).

How to make Database calls without directly htting the DB Listener?

I have a frontend end (code sitting on user's PC) application that needs to call the database, say, to look up table data and populate a JTable.
So, I make a call directly to the database, on the default 1521 (yes, it's Oracle!) and get my data. However, I have other server side java code connecting with my application over a Java socket. (sending messages back and forth).
So, I've got two ports open, 3041 (arbitrary ) for the Java socket and 1521 for the DB.
I want to close 1521 and move the sql statements to the server.
I can't work out a way to do this effectively. At the moment, I'm sending a message through 3041 to tell the server side code to perform a DB call. Then the database returns the info and I send a message back to the client PC with the data.
It makes the DB call asynchronous (good or bad thing?), since I have a listener on the client waiting for messages from the server.
It all looks a bit messy....ie sending messages and waiting for replies just for a DB call.
Is there a standard practice for my problem that I can use?

In that version it should print out some lines as it processes which will confirm that you've found the web, list and item before it does anything.

Can I make a dual boot with Windows 7?

After taking every precaution I can think of for installing Windows 7 on my wifes laptop. System recovery disk, backups(2 DVD's),and an image I made over 6 DVDs.
I thought of why not just shrink the Vista Partition, install Windows 7 in the created partition and run Windows 7 to see if it will work on the laptop (gives me time to straighten things out so my wife can still use it). Then delete the Vista Partition. If the laptop was mine I would just reformat the dang thing and deal with what comes of it from there.
Then there is the Question about what to do about the EISA (Recovery Partition)?

....The partition for the Toshiba Application Installer, which allows you to reinstall the applications and drivers originally bundled with your computer, only contains those installers, and its various data. It will not restore your whole operating system. You have the 2 Restore DVD's to do that. There should be a shortcut to the Toshiba Application Installer, on you computer, that will show you just what it does, and what programs/drivers you can re-install, unless you've deleted the shortcut, or removed the .exe (or .cpl) program that the shortcut targets. If the program that opens the partition is gone, the partition's contents can't be accessed, at least by normal means. Even if you were to unhide the partition, it may hold compressed files, file types, and databases that only the user interface program/control panel Wizard could discern.
....I would exercise caution regarding the removal of the partition, as I don't know whether or not your Restore DVD's need files from this partition (e,g., your specific computer info, driver info, working data, installers, etc.) should you need to use the DVD's. The forensics involved in discerning the data in the partition probably wouldn't be worth the time spent to do so, just to see if you can recover 1.46 GB of space. Too, the EISA (Extended Industry Standard Architecture) partition can be re-created only by using an Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) system EISA utility. Furthermore, deleting and re-creating the partition on a dynamic disk outside of Windows, or by using means other than the OEM's utility to remove it, could lead to data loss, system startup problems, or an inability to boot, depending on just what the OEM had in mind for that partition, and how the configuration was configured. For example, an EISA configured partition may hold boot hotkey information used by your particular computer for special recovery operations, outside of Windows. (If your computer documentation has directions for a special boot hotkey, other than the usual Windows F8, then it's probably used to access the EISA partition.) This is why the partition is usually hidden in Windows, and protected by doing so.
....For the curious, on some computers, once the Wizard (if there is one) is invoked within Windows that uses the partition, the partition is un-hidden, and will appear in Windows Explorer with a drive letter. However, other OEM computers may invoke another program, such as PartSeal.exe, to continue keeping it under wraps while the Wizard uses the partition's files.

How to make my iphone sync with my Mac Book Pro without icloud

My iphone no longer syncs with Mac Book Pro now that I have downloaded Maverick. It just flicks open synching and flicks on to say "waiting for change to be applied" before it closes it's attempt at syncing and does nothing. I have read elsewhere it is because Maverick wants us to use icloud but I don't want to sync my contacts and calendar on icloud as it is not secure enough with the confidential information I have on my calendar and in contacts. I just want to make sure that my contacts are backed up on my computer as well as my calendar saying the same thing on my iphone as well as my Mac. My Mac calendar is the most up to date version at the moment and when I go out to meetings I want my iphone to be up to date too. All help appreciated in solving this syncing problem. Thanks

Plug yr iPhone to your compu in the old fashioned way with cable.
Just to cover yourself...select the iPhone in Devices of left pane of iTunes window, then on main pane, select radio button Back up to Computer. Right click on the iPhone in devices, do a backup. It shld then be on your compu'.
Then, back in main windo, select Info 'tab' from top of the right pane, and tick the Sync iCal events.
I'm sure this will help.
If it all goes pear-shape, u have the backup to restore the pre-sync device.

What needs to open in a new tab/window? The target APEX page? It would be interesting to hear the reasoning behind this.
If this is referring to each page view, as Matt points out there are a number of technical reasons in both browsers and APEX that would make this difficult to achieve. However these are dwarfed by usability and accessibility concerns. Using such a UI model would drive most users insane in short order. More seriously it would confuse infrequent users and users with learning disabilities, and present significant orientation and navigation problems for visually impaired users and people using assistive navigation technologies.
