How to make PPC2 as the default reader

I have an O2 atom exec PDA phone running WM5. It came preinstalled with another pdf reader (clearvue pdf). I have then downloaded and installed Adobe reader for PPC2 and it works fine. My only problem is that PPC2 is not the default reader on the pda. I cannot directly open PPC2 by clicking on the pdf files on the memory card, but has to first open adobe reader and then pick the file. Is there any solution..
Thank you

The association problem related with ClearVue has been addressed in other forums as related with a second registry key, see:
http://www.howardforums.com/showthread.php?threadid=889935
and
http://mobilitytoday.com/forum/showthread.php?t=12836
Adobe seems to be aware only of the open key, and does not touch the opendoc key.
This has worked for me. If, as I understood, your problem is that the reader starts BUT crashes on first page, then the issue is most likely with your reader installation, not the file association.

  • How to make an applet the default one ?

    Hi everybody,
    I have a NXP JCOP41 72k JavaCard, Eclipse 3.2 with jcoptools 3.1.2, jre 1.5.
I have read in a lot of places that it was possible to make a specific applet the default one, meaning that my applet will reply to APDUs as soon as it is powered up... I don't want to go through the Card Manager and select my applet everytime it is power up.
How can you do this, and at what level will I have to do it ?
This is what I already tried:
1- I have read through the GlobalPlatform specification, and they say that it is possible to put a certain flag on a application in order to make it default. So this is what I tried... I had my card in the OP_READY status mode, and I tried to put the application in the 'LOCKED' mode in order to make it the default application using the set-status APDU command from GlobalPlatform. It did not worked.
2- After that, I tried something else. I put the card in the SECURED status mode, and I tried to put the application in the 'LOCKED' mode, but then I think I locked the card. I was not able to authenticate to the card anymore using the init-update command and the 255 keyset. How come the default keyset is not available anymore when you are in SECURED mode ???
Again, how do you make an applet the default one ???
    Thanks a lot for answering,
    Richard Leroy

    Hi everyone,
I finally have found the answer to my question, and felt important to let everybody know it ...
In order to make an applet the default one, you need to upload it and install it with specific privileges...
With gpshell, you need to add "-priv 4" to the "install" line in order to activate the default option. This will enable a specific flag for the applet.
Once this is done, you will have to select the applet with the appropriate APDU, and your applet will be the default one.
You can also get more informations on globalplatform spec 2.1.1 on page 107.

  • How to make list view the default in finder?

Is there a way to make "List view" be the default view for all folders opened?
I know that with a window open, you can hit CMD-1, 2, 3 or 4 for icon, list, column, or cover view, but I want "list view" to be the default.
I know that in some windows I can set the list view the way I want it and then close the folder, knowing the next time it opens, it will remember it, but that doesn't seem to work for encrypted sparse-bundle drives. They ALWAYS come up in icon view, regardless of the previous view it was in.
So hopefully, setting the overall default will help me solve this problem.
    TIA for any advice/tips!
    Steve

I could swear that I've done this before, in exactly this way, and it worked fine on my internal HD, but not on my encrypted sparse-bundles. But now it's working.
Sorry to have created chaff in the group. I should have tried again just before I posted....

  • How to make scim-bridge the default inputmethod for QT application?

I am using gnome with SCIM. I installed scim-bridge for QT application, but xim is the default IM instead of scim-bridge.
I put these into ~/.bashrc or ~/.xprofile or ~/.initrc but it didn't work. xim is still the default IM for QT. You must right click the input area, and choose scim-bridge for input menthod
    XMODIFIERS="@im=SCIM"
    QT_IM_MODULE="scim-bridge"
    or
    XMODIFIERS="@im=scim-bridge"
    QT_IM_MODULE="scim-bridge"
    They both won't work.
The reason why I must use scim-bridge instead of xim mode of SCIM, is because in xim mode the input panel can't follow the cursor.

  • How to make iBooks as the default PDF reader

    Hi,
I have both iBooks and Adobe Acrobat reader installed on my Mac running Mavericks. I'd like to use the sync feature, since I have a lot of PDF and Epub files on my iPad. I read PDF files on my iPad using iBooks without any problem. I added my PDF files to iBooks on my Mac but when I want to read them, the file opens up in Adobe Acrobat reader. I want to read it in iBooks so my books and bookmarks are synced with my iPad.
How can I make PDF files in my iBooks liberary to open only in iBooks and not Acrobat Reader? Any suggestions ?
    Thank you.

Sadly it doesn't appear that iBooks in Mavericks actually can read PDF as on my machine it opens with Preview.
I have no idea if this is by design or what but at least with Preview the annotations actually do get synchronised but I'm not sure about Acrobat Reader.

  • New to MAC from Windows...How to make list view the default global view

Hi Everyone...I know there are several posts already regarding this topic but I still cannot figure it out...I am brand new to Apple as I have used Windows based PC's for most of my life.
My question is...in Finder when I open a folder it displays all the contents in Icon view...which is not a very efficient way to display information.
Is there any way to make all folders (regardless of whether I have previously accessed them or not) display in LIST mode?
Please remember when posting your answer that I am new to MAC's...so please keep your answer in terms that a 5 year old could understand and implement . Thanks everyone...and I really like my new MacBook Pro laptop!!!

I had the same problem when I first used Mac OS X. I wanted to rezize the finder window and alter the view etc. What I did was open up a window and customize it exactly how I wanted it, then hit command-N to get a new window. Usually this turned out to be how it used to be, but sometimes (maybe if you just change one thing at a time with a single drag or click or something) then the new window would be the changed version. Then close the finder windows making sure your changed one is the last one you close.
This is by no means an exact science for doing this, but it seems to work occassionally just by fiddling around changing things then opening/closing windows.
Hope this helps in some way!

  • How Do I Set Reader 9 to be the Default Reader Over Old Acrobat?

Since a crash from an unrecoverable virus, I formatted my HDD and loaded Office, etc. I downloaded Reader 9 and installed it, then reloaded my old Acrobat 6. When I try to launch a pdf file from the net, I get the statement, "The Adobe Acrobat/Reader that is running can not be used to view PDF files in a web browser. Adobe Acrobat/Reader 8 or 9 is required. Please exit and try again." When I click OK, Acrobat launches, but doesn't open the file.
I then got the report that my Acrobat could be config'd to read files in a browser, and clicked OK to do it. However, the process began, then the blank Acrobat sat for a very long time, and while I assumed it would report that it had been done successfully, it never happened, so I carried on assuming it was done. Now it just opens, but doesn't say that it can be config'd.
Even though the notice refers to the Acrobat/Reader that is running, neither are running. I've checked startup, and it doesn't show either one to be launched at startup. Task Manager doesn't show any Adobe running except when they are launched.
I have Reader 9 installed? I never had the problem before with whatever old version of Reader that I had (7?)
Tried everything I can think of and looked at every option trying to find a config that makes either one the default reader so I can disable acrobat and enable reader.
Any ideas other than uninstalling both, then reloading my old Acrobat that serves me just fine, followed by Reader 7.1 that worked just fine would be appreciated. (my fear is that soemthing from reader 9 will be left behind, and 7 won't work)
    Cheers,
    Bill

    Hi Mike:
Thanks for your response. However, it doesn't work.
On reflection, I had kept the old adobe reader software in archive and loaded it, not reader 9. Then installed acrobat 6. Both worked fine in all applications that I used, as it did previously. I can't tell you which application would view the files, but do recall that it would open the file in a separate window from the browser (fine with me). Neither application has stated it couldn't run along with the other program when loading...?
My firewall kept alerting me to adobe wanting to update to 9, but I denied it all the time until I inadvertently clicked on OK. It was after that, that all the problems began.
This is so typical of doing upgrades, and I've always refused them unless functions failed. For the most part, a bunch of extraneous crap and the need to download a lot of utils happens with upgrades - with little value for me in the "wonderful new functions" added (and I'm absolutely certain the download includes new ways to snoop in one's system).
I'll cite Netscape as an example. I used it for a very long time, and it "just simply worked" for all functions. I upgraded to ver 5, and suddenly, I had to download this player, and that whatever, and still had issues (so did my friends). Of course that was dealt with patches that were called further updates. Then came new versions with the need for more util downloads, or upgrades to them.
I had also archived version 4.7 that "just simply worked", so I cleaned all old versions out and reinstalled it. Again, it just simply worked! I used it just fine up to version 7 coming out when I went over to Outlook/Explorer. I burned the s'ware onto a CD and it went around to a bunch of friends who "went back" to the good ol' reliable as well.
I do recall having to upgrade DirectX and Windoze Media Player, but after that, it worked fine. If I clicked on a video file, it ran, no need to download another player, images opened in whatever I had - didn't need to download Quicktime or ? to view a jpeg as was the case with the newer versions, etc. It just worked!
New versions were just more crap added to make money for Netscape (and annoy the user) ie: to view a jpeg, one would have to download a utility like quicktime and netscape would get a nickel(?) for every download done through it.
I'm a firm believer in "good ol'" as opposed to new and improved - whether in software or hard goods/products. New and improved most often = lower cost, cheaper components, bigger profits for the maker, and disappointment for the user. In the case of software: sent to market full of glitches/problems that the user will likely have to find out and possibly even resolve for the maker who will then write patches on top of patches until it becomes stable - usually in time for the next flawed version to appear.
I absolutely hate having to waste time and go through this kind of frustration when something worked perfectly fine, but guess I'll have to go through it and load up the old reliable versions that will function as before. Will have to do permanent denials in the firewall for things I don't want upgraded in the future so I don't screw up.
Again, thanks for the response (and sorry for the venting)
    Cheers,
    Bill

Hi skymedic: Quite easy to set the default program actually. Find a file you need to open, single click. then Right Click and select "Get Info". When this window opens, select the program to be used then click "Change All'. Please note you will need to do this for all file types you want to open with Office. EG: .DOC .PPS .PPT .XLS etc..

  • Make Acrobat the default reader for pdf-files.

Since some time (probably after I installed Mavericks) pdf-files are by default opened
in Preview. To open them in Adobe Acrobat, I can right-click the pdf-file, choose Acrobat,
and indicate that Acrobat should be the default reader for pdf-files.
This works, and after logout and login, it does still work.
But after a reboot, Preview is again the default reader.
Also, if in Finder I right-click a pdf-file, and via Get Info I configure Acrobat
to be the default reader for the specific file and all other pdf-files (by clicking
Change All), this only works for the current session. After a reboot Preview again is the
    default.
How can I make Acrobat Reader the default reader for pdf-files, and make this setting
    permanent?
    Where is this setting saved?
    Regards,
    Kees.

I finally solved this, but I still don't understand how.
To begin with I have 2 hard-drives in my iMac. The OS is on the primary HD, and data are on the secondary drive. My Home directory too is on this secondary HD.
To check whether the location of the Home directory might be the problem, I copied the Home directory to the primary HD, changed the path in my profile, and did a reboot.
The next step was to configure Adobe Acrobat as the default reader for pdf-files. To my surprise,  after rebooting, Acrobat still was the default reader for pdf-files.
So it looks as if this problem has something to do with the location of the Home directory.
The original Home directory was still present on the secondary  HD,  So the next step was to change in my profile the path to the Home directory again (pointing again to the original Home directory on the second HD), do a reboot and delete the copy of the Home directory on the primary HD.
So now the situation was back to as it was before: the Home directory on the second HD.
To my surprise now Acrobat still was the default reader for pdf-files.
And I could also change the default reader to Preview, and back to Acrobat, and this setting was saved across reboots.
I'm curious to what solved this problem, and where the setting of the default pdf-reader, or more general, the default application for file types, is stored.
So I hope that someone who reads this, can shed some light on this.

Re setting a default app for email -
Start up Mail. Open Mail's Preferences (Preferences in the Mail menu). Go to the General tab if it does not open with that chosen. First item in that screen, "Default email reader" - use the pulldown menu to select the app you wish to use. Then close the Preferences window and quit Mail.
Re setting a default app for a given file type -
Select a file of that type by clicking it once, then press Command-I (Get Info in File menu). Look down in the Get Info window to the section "Open with:" - use the pulldown menu there to select the app you wish to use for that file type, then click the "Change All..." button. From then on, double-clicking any file of that type should open it using the app you set.
