tanks

Computers that now come with Lion pre-installed do not require a disc. They would be restored via the Internet Recovery system: OS X Lion- About Lion Recovery. You can create an emergency Recovery HD volume on a USB flash drive using the OS X Lion: About Lion Recovery Disk Assistant.
It is possible to make a bootable installer but the process is a bit involved:
Downloading Hardware Specific Lion Installers will enable you to get a copy of the Lion installer application from which you can make a bootable Lion installer on an 8 GB USB flash drive:
Make Your Own Lion Installer
1. After downloading Lion you must first save the Install Mac OS X Lion application. After Lion downloads DO NOT click on the Install button. Go to your Applications folder and make a copy of the Lion installer. Move the copy into your Downloads folder. Now you can click on the Install button. You must do this because the installer deletes itself automatically when it finishes installing Lion.
2. Get a USB flash drive that is at least 8 GBs. Prep this flash drive as follows:
Open Disk Utility in your Utilities folder.
After DU loads select your hard drive (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list. Note the SMART status of the drive in DU's status area.  If it does not say "Verified" then the drive is failing or has failed and will need replacing.  SMART info will not be reported  on external drives. Otherwise, click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.
Under the Volume Scheme heading set the number of partitions from the drop down menu to one. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Options button, set the partition scheme to GUID then click on the OK button. Click on the Partition button and wait until the process has completed.
Select the volume you just created (this is the sub-entry under the drive entry) from the left side list. Click on the Erase tab in the DU main window.
Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Options button, check the button for Zero Data and click on OK to return to the Erase window.
Click on the Erase button. The format process can take up to several hours depending upon the drive size.
3. Locate the saved Lion installer in your Downloads folder. CTRL- or RIGHT-click on the installer and select Show Package Contents from the contextual menu. Double-click on the Contents folder to open it. Double-click on the SharedSupport folder. In this folder you will see a disc image named InstallESD.dmg.
4. Plug in your freshly prepared USB flash drive. You are going to clone the InstallESD.dmg disc image to the flash drive as follows:
Open Disk Utility.
Select the USB flash drive from the left side list.
Click on the Restore tab in the DU main window.
Check the box labeled Erase destination.
Select the USB flash drive volume from the left side list and drag it to the Destination entry field.
Drag the InstallESD.dmg disc image file into the Source entry field.
Double-check you got it right, then click on the Restore button.
When the clone is completed you have a fully bootable Lion installer that  you can use without having to re-download Lion.

How do I make a dvd from an iphoto 9 shideshow with a macbook pro

You cannot export it as a movie, the only way is to export it as a slide show. Select the quality (bare in mind the higher the quality, the more space it will take up) and click export. It is compatible with ipod touch, iphone 4+, ipad apple tv, mac and PC. Select automatically send slidshow to Itunes, and you can sync it with any device.

  • Installing a new hard drive.  How to make installer dvd from current OS

I have a iMac G5 (PPC).  2004 when I got it.  And have the original HD.  150 GB.  Following Murphy's Law this HD is due for failure.  I have bought a 1 TB. new hard drive to install on this machine.  I forgot which OS came with it (10.3) I think. My set up is that I back up my iMac G5 (PPC) to a external Hard drive (300GB) with Time Machine. I have updated thru software update to 10.5.8.  But have no DVD installer for 10.5.8.
How can I make an installer for my new hard drive?  Or should I partition new 1TB hard drive with the same amount of space as my time machine back up?  I may not put everything on current system on new drive.

If the old harddrive is working, why don't you copy the old to the new?
In Leopard, you can resize partitions without loosing data.
Here are two utilities for making a complete backup of your internal hard drive.  I've recommend using one of these so that you can create a bootable system  on your external hard drive. ( PPC require a firewire connected drive. )  Once created, you can run your system from the external drive.  Hold down the option key on your keyboard then power on your machine.  This will bring you in startup manager click on the drive image you wish to boot then click on the arrow key to the right.

  • How to make a DVD from MPEG-2 clips without re-encoding?

I have many standard DVDs (in MPEG-2 unfortunately) with unedited video footage. I want to extract the best parts of those DVDs and compile them to a new DVD without re-encoding (no fancy scene transitions needed).
I have a program called Cinematize 2, that lets me rip the parts I want as "Main Video Stream" (QT), Elementary streams or MPEG2- Program streams. I can save audio and video as one or two separate files. Which ones works best with DVDSP? I would prefer to save as MPEG-2 Program Stream (one file), as these files can also be played back on the computer with the VLC player.
If I have many different MPEG-2 clips, if I make a DVD with DVDSP, can those clips be played back to back like a movie?
I would appreciate any advice on how to to this the best way I want to have as many options open to me as possible in the future. In particular, in which state or format I should save the files from the DVDs, so that I am both able to watch them individually with VLC as well as edit them together in FCP or DVDSP.
    Thanks,
    Don

    Don
You do need to use separate video and audio files, and Streamclip can do it right (I never used Cinematize!).
And can it work with AC3 as well as WAV and AIFF
You can use AIFF (uncompressed) audio and/or Dolby AC3. If you can try using AC3 audio in your DVD-R projects because first, it takes less space that AIFF (using AC3 you can fit 120 min of high quality video in a 4.7 disc) and second, because it has a lower bitrate. Using AIFF is a very common cause of formatting errors and playback problems, because highbitrate errors.
I have yet not used DVDSP, so I'm not familiar with the process.
You can visit [Drew13's site|http://www.dvdstepbystep.com> for some good tutorials.
    Hope that helps !

Apple no longer sells iDvd.  You will have to purchase an older version of iLife that has iDvd on it or use a third party application such as Toast from Roxio.

  • Recovery dvd from Lenovo

How much does a recovery dvd from Lenovo cost and is it different from dvds made thru One Key Recovery? Alos, How do I reinstall windows on a laptop with RapidDrive? thanks

    Hi,
Here is a partial answer to your questions, and it is based upon my experiences of about 2 years ago.
My R500 Thinkpad came with a 32 bit version of Windows 7 professional, and I wanted to upgrade to 64 bit, so I ordered the 64 bit recovery DVD's from Lenovo and they charged me $50 at the time.
The DVD's you create with Rescue and Recovery are not the same as the ones you get from Lenovo. They both will create a "factory image" but the content is different.
When you create Rescue and Recovery DVD set, the first one created is a BOOT DISC. That first disc you create can be either be to a DVD or a CD. Either works equally well, although Lenovo hints that the first one should be a CD. I have always used a CD, and recovered systems with no problems.
When you make a set of recovery media using Rescue and Recovery, you do not create an "Operating System CD", and this is normal. When you get a set of recovery CD's/DVD's from Lenovo, you will always get one that is labeled "Operating System CD".
The different sets go through different recovery processes, and Rescue and Recovery needs to know which type of set you have, so it can perform the correct process.  It does this by asking the question "Do you have an operating system CD?" Based on the answer it performs one process or the other, and expects different contents on the CD's/DVD's that are presented to it. You cannot mix the DVD's up between the two processes. If you tell Rescue and Recovery that you have an operating system CD (i.e. provided by Lenovo) and present it with media created by you using the "Create Rescue Media" process, the recovery will fail.
    I hope this helps.
Unfortunately, I have no experience with RapidDrive.

  • Cannot make Recovery DVDs for the G580 with Windows 8

I notice that Windows 8 Notebooks are no longer being sold with Licenses affixed to the underside.  So if anything goes wrong (e.g. we have to replace the HDD at a later date)  we cannot just use a Windows 8 disk to restore the operating system.
This means it is important to make sure we have recovery DVDs.
With previous versions One Key Recovery had an option to make restore DVDs - it misses that option with Windows 8.
Phoned Lenovo support who said that we should make the DVDs through the Windows Backup system, which again is fine but on both Lenovo's I have tried it on Windows 8 cannot make a backup to DVD.  Also even if we could make the windows backup or system repair disks they would not allow a complete factory restore to a brand new HDD.
How do we make Recovery DVDs that would be bootable and would restore the Operating System to a brand new HDD if the worst should happen and the existing HDD suffered unrecoverable failure?  So far the only option that has come up from my various phonecalls is "buy a set of recovery discs for £25-£35 .... which would be a bit unfair having only had this 2 days.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    thanks for the feedback.
Could you please check out the following link and see if it contains a possible solution, I am aware it states only Think products in the compatability list but there are "cross-over" points where something could be of relevance to other Lenovo products.

  • How to make bootable iso from download

how to make bootable iso from download

    This one - https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=5587
1st:  This is NOT a .ISO file!!
2nd.  It is a .MSI file which is a Microsoft Installer file.
    3rd:  Read the instructions:
    Install Instructions:
Click the Download button to start the download.
    Do one of the following:
To start the installation immediately, click Run.
To save the download to your computer for installation at a later time, click
    Save.
To cancel the installation, click Cancel.
When installation completes a file called readme.txt will open to provide instructions for burning a home computer restore CD. The file is also located
next to the ISO image file for later reference.
4th: If you are unable to read and follow instructions, there is nothing anyone in these forums can do to assist you.  You must be capable of reading and following instructions!
Please remember to click “Mark as Answer” on the post that helps you, and to click “Unmark as Answer” if a marked post does not actually answer your question. This can be beneficial to other community members reading the thread. ”
OK, well sorry to disagree with you but:-
    1. Using windows 7, the download does not provide a save but only a run option.
    2. In the MS predownload instructions you copied it refers to the readme text next to "the ISO image"
    3. This is a copy of the read me file attached:-
"This ReadMe document is one of the Windows Home Server Home Computer Restore CD files. Unless you changed the installation location during setup, the Home Computer Restore CD files and license terms are located in one of the following folders:
    * On Windows Vista: %HOMEPATH%\Documents\Windows Home Server Home Computer Restore CD (Dual Boot)
    * On Windows XP: %HOMEPATH%\My Documents\Windows Home Server Home Computer Restore CD (Dual Boot)
To use the Home Computer Restore CD software, you must write the ISO image file (restorecd_dual.iso) to a blank CD. A CD/DVD burner is required to write
the ISO image file to the CD. Usually a CD/DVD burner includes the software that you need to write ISO image files. Follow the instructions with your burner software, and then select the option to write an ISO image, not the option to write
individual files. Note that you cannot write the ISO image by using Windows Explorer to copy the file to the CD-ROM drive.
Burning the ISO image creates a bootable CD. To restore your home computer, boot the computer from the CD and follow the instructions.
Microsoft may update the Windows Home Server Home Computer Restore CD software. You can download the latest version from the Microsoft Web site at http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkID=109282.
If you want to review the license terms for the Windows Home Server Home Computer Restore CD, the file EULA_DUAL.TXT can be found in the same folder"
As you will see it refers to the downloaded .iso file. Nowhere is there a reference to a msi.  As there was only a run function on the downloaded file, it could not be saved. How is an ordinary Windows user meant to interpret the instructs
if the download function does not work? What you do is try and follow the instructions and produce a load of frigging coffee mats, as it seems did many of the posters on this thread. Are we all illiterate?
If Microsoft could think in the way of a user it would help a lot of people.
So Rick Dee, please inform me how I misread the instructions?

    Hi,
As you have found in the View Menu of iChat is the option to Display the Recipients Bar
This bar when clicked will display the Screen Names that you know for your Buddy and your own Screen Names.
The Buddy's names are in the "To:-" section whilst your own are in the "From:-"
Example pic from my iChat 6
The Chat window has to Be Open.
The Buddy's current name becomes a Drop Down that show the To and From names.
It appears to allow you to Connect Google or Jabber IDs to AIM Buddies but the tick will move to any valid Account if you change either the To choice or the From choice.
AS you say about the add Buddy drop down that appears - when your Buddy list are displayed as one an extra drop down appears fro you to Select the account/list it is joining as a Buddy

  • How do I download DVDs from home onto my iPad?

How do I download DVDs from home onto my iPad?

I would suggest that you use a tool like Handbrake to convert the DVD to MP4 video suitable form for putting out your iPad.
Rules governing the use of such tools and so on vary around the world, so you should be knowledgable about your own local copyright laws. In WIPO signatory countries like the USA, you are permitted to "format shift" media that you own for backup, personal uses, and interoperability reasons. However, in the USA, it's a crime to possess the means to do so if that tool could be used to circumvent any technical measure that makes it inconvenient to copy the content. So, Handbrake operates in a gray area as far as US laws are concerned. Outside the US, there ought not be a problem.

Trying to make a dvd from a project and this error message appears .The project could not be prepared for publishing because an error occurred. (-2125)

    Hi
    Error -2125
OK Error code - 2125 usually indicates that the movie is to large.
It use to pop up when going to iDVD !
iDVD - DO NOT CARE ABOUT Gbs at all. I got movies on 500Mb that do not fit and 50Gb that fits nicely.
iDVD - ONLY CARES ABOUT - Duration. Duration is Movie time + MENU TIME. Choice of
menu and animation of this can take lost of "DURATION" 15 minutes or even more.
Choice of encoding method and use of SL or DL DVDs determine the DVD limit.
    iDVD 08 & 09 & 11 has three levels of qualities.
iDVD 6 has the two last ones
    • Professional Quality (movies + menus up to 120 min.) - BEST
    • Best Performances (movies + menus less than 60 min.) - High quality on final DVD
    • High Quality (in iDVD08 or 09) / Best Quality (in iDVD6) (movies + menus up to 120 min.) - slightly lower quality than above
DL DVDs can store about double of these times.
ALTERNATIVE - The Error Code can indicate that free space on Start-up (BOOT) hard disk is
    less than 25Gb (my minimum)
    calbe - wrote
If you are getting OSStatus error -2125, I've seen this caused by the computer display sleep settings.
Try changing the sleep settings to never and see if you are able to export.

Why when I make a dvd from an album are my photos not in order?

Why when I make a dvd from an album are my photos not in order?
Simply because your Explorer/Finder only takes into account the file names and dates of your files.
For instance, in Windows, you have to tell the explorer to sort by 'date taken' otherwise the default sort orders are file dates or file names.
If you have given a 'custom' sort order to your albums, the only way for the Explorer to sort in the same way is to set the custom sort order in the album, export to a new folder with the 'rename' option - same starting text string plus order.

  • What is the best way to make a DVD from iMovie

What is the best way to make a DVD from iMovie?
    I am using iMovie 06 (Naturally) with iDVD 08. I have always used;
iMovie 06, File > Share to iDVD 08. And got pretty good results.
Some say the best way is to quit iMovie 06, open iDVD and import the movie from the Media button.
I have tried both methods in the results look the same. I'm interested in getting the very best quality possible.

You likely have one of the most expensive media converter boxes on the market today.
But does it work well with most macs? (my guess is that it does). But more specifically can it "handshake" with an intel based mac? I personally haven't tried it.
But you may want to read this for yourself if you haven't already:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1179361&tstart=2362
Assuming it works then the best format is .dv which this unit will support apparently.
