How to make sure everything is saved?
I'm about to format my computer...
the entire C drive.. and reinstall windows... on the C:Drive is my Premiere Pro. .I have CS3..
I wish to reinstall it after the format.. but.. it would be a catastrophe to me if my current projects were to be deleted with the format
I have an extern harddrive..
I need some help to know what I need to move on to that harddrive.. to be 100% sure.. I won't lose my projects..
would it be more safe to just move the entire Adobe Premiere Pro folder too ?..
Do not move the PPro program folder... you need to have that, with registry entries, on the C drive
Do deactivate PPro (and all other software) before formatting, so you will be able to reactivate
Make sure all your video assets are on your external drive, and that your project works with the files there, and then do a SAVE AS and save your project to that external drive
Make sure that new project works, and you are good to go
Also, make step by step backups as you reinstall everything...
Hardware crashes or virus infections happen, so you should buy AND USE software to make a full backup of your hard drive to an external USB hard drive... plus, making step-by-step backups during a new install or major program addition makes it easy to go back a step if something doesn't work
This backup and then restore is, of course, only to the same computer with a new drive (or the same drive as long as you don't mind writing over everything) since doing a restore to a new computer won't work due to Windows and many programs having activation information that is keyed to your hardware (which is why Windows will force you to RE-Activate if you change very much hardware)

Image runs off of a bootable CD via Linux (the Zip you download includes a program to make the bootable CD) and it reads EVERYTHING on the drive, even the hidden registration information, so everything is restored when needed... and you may restore the image to a brand new drive in case of a crash, and not have to re-install anything
Please note that I own no part of Image, and I don't get a referral fee (that is just a plain web link) but I use the program and it has saved me a LOT of trouble when I had a hard drive die... and I was able to restore everything and not have to re-install or re-activate a single program, from Windows on up

Some of the apps previously downloaded have now become blank - white box instead of picture. Name of app still appears. Have tried hard reboot and sync to make sure everything is up to date. Anybody ever had this? How can I fix?
One more thing to try. Double click on the home button. Scroll in that bottom line of icons (swipe finger to left) to the app that are all white. Hold your finger on the app until the - sign appears. Tap it to close the app. Hopefully it will then show up correctly. (As they say about chicken soup curing a cold, "can't hurt")

How to draw a perfect circle and how to make sure it is perfectly centered inside a square in Photoshop elements using the Ellipse option.
1. Create a square canvas.
2. With the Elipse tool, hold down Shift (Shift forces a circle). Draw the circle anywhere on the canvas (Shape 1 in this example).
3. Simplify the circle layer
4. Ctrl-click the layer to select the circle.
5. Copy the selection to the clipboard (Edit > Copy).
6. Deselect the selection.
7. Paste from the clipboard (Edit > Paste). The pasted circle (Layer 1) will be centered.
8. Delete the original circle layer.
NOTE: Step 6 is the key. This guarantees that the pasted circle will be centered.
If you want a circle completely within a square you can simply draw and simplify a circle on any shape canvas. Ctlrl-click the circle to to select it and copy to the clipboard.
Then do File > New from Clipboard. This creates the circle cropped to a square on transparent background. -

Running LV 2010. I have an application in which I talk to some hardware via the USB. Values are stored in the EEPROM inside the hardware. I have a screen that shows these variables as floating point numbers, and allows the user to change the variables as needed, then save to the device. The problem I have is that, if I change a number, and while the numeric field still has focus, I click the save button, the program saves the previous vaue. It's as if the value was not entered. If instead, I click off of the newly entered number in the middle of the page somewhere, then click save, it saves the new number. In the save button routine, I have tried changing the focus to the save button, then "waiting" 10mS for the display to update, then saving, but this does not work. How do I make sure the screen has accepted the change before I do the save? Thanks.

Hi, Im just about to get a new Imac but I would like to know the most comprehensive way of transferring absolutely everything about Logic 8 from my macbook to my new computer. Including all my songs, settings, plug ins, everything.
Also the new Imac runs snow leopard, whereas my macbook is on Leopard, will this make a difference, should I ask them to put Leopard instead on there.
thanksIf it's a new iMac, then AFAIK you can't put Leopard on it. It has usually been the case with Macs that as a general rule, they won't allow you to install a system version earlier than the current version available at the time they are shipped.
If I were you, I'd update my current machine first.. I'd do the following: First step, buy a separate FW hard drive (or use one you have already that you can completely wipe, as long as it's at least as big as your system drive). Then using Carbon Copy Cloner or Super Duper, I'd make a clone of the system (as in the Leopard system you currently have) to this drive. That way you've got everything backed up nice and safe. Then, I'd go ahead and update the current computer to the latest version of Snow Leopard, and (me personally), I'd update to Logic 9.1 as well. I'd then do a comprehensive clean up and system repair on this drive (using onyx, disk warrior or your 3rd party utility of choice) just to make sure it's as lean and mean as possible. Then when the new iMac arrives, using Carbon Copy Cloner or Super Duper, I'd use the newly prepared system as the source to 'clone' itself to the system drive of the iMac, by connecting the MacBook to it in FireWire target disc mode. By doing this, you'll transfer your entire computer to the new machine, applications, plug ins and all, and it will be using a version of OSX that the iMac will be able to work with. The only possible hiccup I can think of is that if you have plug ins authorized to the MacBook, it's possible that the machine ID won't match anymore so you'll have to do authorization again. But just check with the manufacturer of your plug ins for the procedure on this. It may involve you having to de-authorize them first from the MacBook, so get informed on this before you do anything.
Anyway, this procedure should get you transferred relatively painlessly. I know there is also a way to accomplish the same thing using Time Machine and doing a 'migration' to a new machine, which (I think) is offered to you when you first startup the new Mac. This may also be a good way to do it, but because I've never tried it I can't comment. If you have an Apple store in your area, maybe it's a good idea to get an appointment with an Apple 'genius' when you take possession of your new iMac.. I think they offer assistance with the migration process, so if you went in with your old MacBook you may be able to just sit there and watch them do it for you. -
MacBook Pro 15" 2007 is dead. How to make sure it's the left I/O board?
My 15" 2007 MacBook Pro is now completely dead. No light on the 85W magsafe (which does work on unibody MBP 15), battery completely empty, no sign of life whatsoever. Apple Store says I need a new "logic board" but could not specify which one, main or left I/O. How can I make sure it is the left I/O board?
The computers' power circuits have been steadily declining in recent months. It has a checkered history - it's the one that ran hot, had kernel panics due to graphics card drivers, and had the graphics card hardware issue. The computer died in October 2008 and "the logic board" was replaced under Apple Care, free of charge. When AppleCare ran out I bought a unibody MPB and my son inhereted the 2007 model, using it for his music and being pretty happy with it, until the battery would not charge anymore. He then ran it on the power supply only, until it would not boot up. Apple Store did some magic with it (probably reset SMC), it ran for a while longer without charging battery, then did the same thing (not booting, but magsafe connector showing green LED). Searching on the web I found some hints as to how to reset SMC and this worked - once. Took the computer off the magsafe when going on a holiday, when I came back it had deceased.
Apple Store quoted $ 540 for a logic board replacement. The left I/O board is available online for $ 119 and I am able to mount it myself, would do so if I could make sure that this unit has failed and not the main board. And that, friends, is my question.Let the Apple folks - or an AASP - run diagnostics on the machine. They'll be able to tell if you need a new logic board or not. Get an estimate - if it seems outrageous then it's probably time to buy a new computer.

K, I am having trouble making a new instance of an object.
I have a class call File_Class that have a public static attribute call File_Name.
Now in another class, I have a linkedlist and each one of the element is supposely a File_Class object. The problem that I am having now is that whenever I create a new File_Class (File_Class New_Class = new File_Class (File_Name)), i am actually getting a reference to the old one so that anything that I change reflects on every element of my link list.
My question now is
1. how exactly do i enforce that a new instance of the object (File_Class) is created so i can make sure every element in my linked list is distinct.
2. why is this happening at all

This is how the TOC looks like in landscape. As you can see there is a chapter and many pages. I didn't use sections to make sure that they don't appeared as a list in TOC page.

How to make sure an applet runs with Java 5?
Hi all,
First let me say thanks for all the help in the past. You've help me go from noob to intermediate noob. I've just about finished my first applet game which can be checked out here .
Now I've been reading about problems with mac and 1.6. (note it works on Linux). I want to make sure that it runs fine and of course I don't own a mac. So I downloaded the 5 JDK. Selected it as the java platform in Netbeans, compiled and it ran fine.
Questions:
Do I have to always use 1.5 to compile and perhaps set it as default?
Since it works in 1.5, do I compile it with 1.6 and just upload?
I'm worried I'm not testing it correctly. I mean if I have both 1.5 and 1.6 installed on my machine, how to I make sure the applet is only using 1.5 to run?

There seem to be two issues. The first is what people are using. This web stats shows pretty poor penetration of 1.6.

The second is I've read that mac and 1.6 do not get along except on a 64bit platform.
So for applets there is not much choice but to compile on 1.5 for the broadest user base. I guess the good news is 1.4 and earlier are almost non-existent.
