How to make text message notification work without quitting the app

in the text message conversation view, there's only a soft sound alert when new messages are received.
even when the screen is off, you get no popup preview or a regular notification sound whatsoever.
the only way to keep getting the regular notification & previews is to quit the app each time you send out a text.
often times when you are in the middle of something and are unable to focus on the phone itself for the conversation, you forget to quit the message app, then you are totally not aware there have been messages coming in because it only gives you a soft sound alert that's totally unable to hear when you're outside walking, or other similar scenarios.
It's been bugging me for years, it's specially annoying when the other person I chat with isn't aware of this issue and ocassionally misses out my messages.
i mean, if apple insists that to avoid this problem, the users MUST remember to quit the conversation RIGHT AFTER EVERY SINGLE LINE, this is just absolutely unrealistic.
I now do it every time because I'm aware of the issue, but not the other people I have conversations with.
I've had too many situations where I had to wait for a long time to receive response only to find out that the other person wasn't aware the new text messages, because it was simply too soft to hear, and completely no other sort of things to notify you with.
so i wonder if there really isn't a way to change the notification behavior, cuz apparently it's impossible that I make everybody I send text to change their habits just for this.

Cannot start new project without quitting the app first, edited projects d

Hi all
I posted a similar problem earlier, and thought it was resolved, but now it's happening again and worse.
( I keep my imovies on an external drive, which has been fine before (maybe before snow leopard update?) )
Briefly:
I created an new event and imported clips.
I created a new project 1, edited but did not share.
Created project 2, edited. Quit imovie.
today, opened imovie: project 2 was active so I shared it.
Went to project pane: project 1 was empty. Recreated project 1 and shared it.
Created new project 3:.... project 1 would not leave the editing window so quit imovie.
Re-opened imovie:
Project pane: project 1 is empty, project 2 is empty, but shared indication is there. opened project 3 to edit and share.
new project 4: project 3 wouldn't leave the window to allow editing of 4.
Quit and deleted preferences (imovie8 plist as well as the iapps plist from my user/library/preferences). but no improvement: Now projects 1, 2, and 3 are empty (but shared)
What the heck is happening and how can I fix it? I'm tired of sharing and then quitting the app as the only way to work on a new project and am afraid that if i have a big project, and can't share the same day I start it, it will be gone when i reopen the app the next day!!

Well, as no one was able to offer a solution, i reinstalled the whole iLife 09 package. This at least allowed me to install the updates (which I couldn't do before).
A test movie creation works, without the edited work disappearing. I don't want to have to reinstall every time it happens, though, so I am keeping my fingers crossed that the problem is now solved.

In Linux, how do we cancel current OMB+ cmd without quiting the OMB+ mode?

I work on Linux platform,
when I run OMB+ command and if I want to cancel the statement by hitting ctrl+c, it always quit the OMB+ mode and I then have to run OMBPlus.sh again to enter the mode.
Does anyone know how to cancel it and still stay in OMB+ mode?

How can I get URL forwarding working without touching the obj.conf

It won't work right after it is set up from the Admin server. I have to manually edit the obj.conf so that the [NameTrans fn="redirect"] lines are ahead of any other lines NameTrans lines. Why the Admin server cannot do this when adding the "redirect" lines to obj.conf, or did I miss anything when I config the URL forwarding?

How to make a new icloud account without deleting the acount on other divices

I got an ipad4 and when I go into icloud to type in a new account email it is grey and you can't change it. I want to have my own account in my own ipad.

Settings > iCloud, scroll down and hit the delete account button. Any information on that account will be deleted from that device, but it will not be deleted from the cloud or any of the device logged into that account.

Nokia N97 - No Text Message Notification and a Few...

I love my nokia n97, but i'm rapidly falling out of love with it, i have owned it since the end of august and this is the first time i have really hit a major problem with it.
The main problem being is, that the phone no longer gives me a text message notification or noise in that it being on the home screen it does say "1 new message" and i have to constantly have my inbox open to see when i have a new message and constantly check it all the time, for a person who is texting constantly this is probably one of the most annoying problems. If it makes any odds its using the mass memory.
I called the support line and have tried the following:
- Upgraded the firmware (no effect)
- Hard reset the phone (without the backed up data on it, the text message notification works, after placing data back on it, problem comes along again)
- Cleared cache (no different)
- Hard reset the phone and restored data on phone without the settings (this has worked for a while, less than a day, and is now playing up again)
Along with a few other problems that have started which i am confused whether it is the actual application or my phone that is the issue with this:
Facebook - No longer works proberly, freezes regulary, excessively slow at loading any content up.
AccuWeather - Can never find my location through gps and sometimes unable to load data for a pre-set location.
-At points through the day i do get error messages too that don't really make much sense, "cannot retrieve data" "error" and "internal error, reset phone"
Also when hard resetting the phone the second time round, originally built in applications disappeared so i had to re-download them through Ovi Store again.
Other problems include phone basically freezing regulary mainly on startup, and start up time being long before it lets me push a button, and loading content for the homescreen, the 3 widgets and the speed-dail take excessively longer than they use tooo.
My phone is suppose to be getting 'repaired' within 48 hours, is this true? I got told by a friend that his took 2 weeks+.
Or a replacement and how does this work and who is responsible for giving me a replacement. (Nokia, t-mobile, mobilephonesdirect?)
Could all these problems be linked back to a faulty sim card?
What on earth has happened to my phone, is this fixable, isit a software bug that cannot be sorted, why has this happened, why now, i have never run into any problems before?
Is there something in the data, i can't think of anything, if so what?
This problem started totally randomly?
Isit somesort of weird memory issue?
If i was to get a new phone, will i not run into the same problem again, what happens if i do? Do they keep replacing it or fixing it all the time?

N97 is going back in again today for them to confirm it is un-repairable and then they are going to send me out a new one.
The guy said it was a software issue which was caused by t-mobile putting their own software on the phone, which is absolutely stupid, if operator's software is going to cause a phone to malfunction, then don't let it on!!!

IPhone 4 does not notify me of a text message while I am using another app

What gives?? I have not changed any settings on my iPhone but I recently noticed that when I am actively using another app (any app from social networking to games, etc.) my phone does not vibrate/ring/otherwise notify me that I have received a text. The only way I can tell if I have received a text is if I exit an app, then scroll over to my messages and see if there is an icon to show that I have a new message. How can I fix this? When I am not using my iPhone for anything else, my text message notifications work fine. Thanks for your help!

Nope, text messages are set to alert style, none of these settings has changed. Like I said, it's only an intermittent problem that happens while I am using another app or mail or Safari or whatever. Strangely enough, when I am using a music app (Pandora, etc.) that does not require me to actively use it (for example, I am listening to music but the lock screen is on, and when I unlock I'm just on my home screen... I do get text alerts. This is so weird and such a pain!

"Other" is data that the iPod doesn't know how to deal with (but on your nano, it isn't Apps). All iPods have some quantity of "Other" on them. Sometimes Other is corrupt files that cannot be read.
The usual remedy when the quantity of Other becomes too big, is to Restore the iPod. However, 0.26GB of Other doesn't appear to be very much and I suspect you won't see much change, if any, if you Restore.

I just purchased a soundboard, how do I set the sounds as a text message notification?

I just purchased an iPhone 4 off of Ebay and I am having a difficult time trying to figure out how to set soundboard sounds to my text message notification. It does not show under my sounds and when I hold down the specific sound it does not give me an option to set it as a notification. Unfortunately, I just found out the tech support etc are expired so I cannot ask Apple for help without paying for it. Does anyone know how to set a soundboard sound to a text message notification sound?

You choose whether to see text messages in Notification Center or not. If you elect to see them, they will display the phone number (unless they are from a contact in your contacts list).
You can choose not to see them at Settings > Notification Center > Messages.

mono 8 bit 8k is 64kbps, yes. 8 bits times 8,000 = 64,000 = 64k bits/sec.
And yes I think that's a typo - there's no such thing as 'Mone' that I've ever heard of...
But you might want to check to find out if this is a mu-law non-linear format, possibly - there are several ways that 8 bit 8k wav files can be encoded, and typically phone systems don't use linear ones. If you have a log-in to Zultys' user-base system they have an FAQ there, I believe - the answer might be in that, and it won't cost $500.
