How to connect Cinema Display A1081 to Mac Mini 2009
This may seem an obvious question but the problem is that I am currently abroad, having bought a Mac Mini to replace my very old PowerMac G4, so I cant check if the cable that currently connects the old machine to my Cinema Display will also fit into the new Mac Mini.
Any help or suggestions are gratefully received.Just other users here, no replies from Apple itself.
Besides the included adapter working, there's a MDP to DVI adapter you can buy...

HT4614 how do I connect a mac cinema display to a mac mini
Is it possible to connect both an Apple 30" HD cinema display and an Apple 23" cinema display to a Mac Mini and use both as dual monitors?
Yes with the current Mac Mini. Connect the 23" to the Mac Mini's HDMI port with the HDMI to DVI adapter that came with the Mac Mini.
If the 23" display uses ADC (Apple Display Connector)
<http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/0/09/AppleDisplayConnector.jpg>
you will also need a DVI to ADC adapter.

Connect the 30" display to the Thunderbolt port with a Mini DisplayPort to DUAL-LINK DVI adapter.

HDMI to TV as Display for New Mac Mini DOESN'T WORK
I bought a new Mac Mini and was told I could us HDMI to my TV as display. I was using this TV as display for older Mac Mini (VGA) and for a Windows PC, and DVD via HDMI. TV is one year old.
The Genius at the store who sold me the new mini said all I needed was an HDMI cable. Which I purchased.
The screen comes up for the Setup Assistant but as soon I select continue is goes to gray, mixed color scanning garbage mode. If I turn the TV off and back on, the screen returns (now at the next prompt in the setup assistant) but again it goes gray after hitting continue. Unusable, CANNOT set up my new purchase.
Unfortunately, the DVI to VGA adapter on my old mini is different and doesn't mate to the HDMI to DVI adapter that ships with new MacMini, so I can't test VGA. The old DVI to VGA has extra pins not on the new one.
My purchase is not usable and is extremely poor. Buyer beware I guess.I have been using MacMini's for commercial digital signage/video conferencing gateway usage for sometime now, they all have HDMI output, about one third are on Lion the others still on Snow Leopard, here's what I have found.
Toshiba & LG tv's are generally reliable, Samsung and Philips generally are not, Panasonic, Sony, Sharp & Viewsonic all work, somtimes with a bit of work from me.
Cables are important (always look for compatibility with HDMI revision 1.3 or greater (1.4 preferred), don't waste your money on exotic brands, adhere to the distance limitations, I generally send the HDMI signal wirelessly (cost of labor to add wiring to an existing space can be very high) so am limited to less than 50ft, same as with a wire.
READ THE TV MANUAL, find out what HDMI choices your tv possesses, is there a 'parallel' audio input available for the times when your signal origin is a MDP or DVI.
Some TV's just don't work well, cut your losses and get another when faced with this issue. -
I have a mid 2011 27 inch iMac and a late 2012 mac mini. I am using the 27 inch iMac as the display for the mac mini with a thunderbolt cable. I was trying to use bootcamp on the mini but after I started downloading windows I can't get it to display on the iMac.
Hi there,
The simplest way is to drag it across wirelessly using the 'Airdrop' application once both computers are near one another. 'Airdrop' can be found near the top, on the left hand side menu, within 'Finder'.

My thuderbolt display is 3 weeks old which I'm using as display for my mac mini. I no longer get the display on but can hear the sound. Please suggest.
Make sure the mini-displayport/TB plug is fully seated. It may look fully plugged in but isn't.
Make sure the Displays system preferences has an Arrangement tab. No Arrangement means the monitor is not being detected.
Do a smc reset.
If none of this works I suggest you take it back to apple (along with your mini). -
Is it possible to use an iMac as the display for a Mac mini?
Is it possible to use an iMac as the display for a Mac mini?
iMacs late 2009 or newer can be used in Target display
mode. Any older, no can do.
The only other way is via network Screen Sharing or
some otherVPN network like solution. The issue here
though is that video performance will be pretty severely
hampered. -
How to connect old Apple Cinema Display to new Mac Mini?
Hello,
I'm considering replacing an old Mac Mini with the new model, but I intend to keep on using my old Apple Cinema Display 20" with it. But i'm having some trouble finding the right conversor (it seems there isn't any from Apple...)
Any suggestions?
Thank you.If by "old" apple cinema the OP is referring to the aluminum displays of the later mac models, then yes, that's a no-brainer, the problem is that if the OP is referring to the "real" old apple cinema displays, which have a DVI-type connection with power included on the same cable, like the displays the former Mac G4 or G5 had, then he needs a ADP to DVI port, which in most cases it cost more than the actual monitor itself.. I guess the OP needs to specify what does it mean by old apple displays or throw in a link to an image..

Can I use an old Apple Cinema Display with new Mac Mini?
Currently I have an early PowerMac G5 that I bought used recently. It came with an Apple Cinema Display (20", I think - resolution is 1680x1050). The Cinema Display does not have a separate power cord so it must be powered from the PowerMac. My question is this - would I be able to use this monitor with a new Mac Mini - would it be able to power it the same as the PowerMac is currently.
Thanks in advance for your help. This is the first Mac I have owned since a "Fat Mac" many years ago (one of those with the 9" black and white screen). Are you sure you have a 20" CINEMA display? I have 2x 20" CINEMA displays and both have their own power cord (and power brick). Maybe yours is a STUDIO display??? IDK if STUDIO displays worked that way or not, I've never owned one. Anyways, I have a 20" CINEMA display connected to my new Mac mini (early 2009) via the MiniDVI>DVI adapter and it works fine but is powered through the power cord though. I too have a PowerMac G5 (quad) but my PowerMac cannot power the displays without them being plugged in via their power cords. I am thinking you must have a STUDIO display or maybe there was an earlier version of the CINEMA display that could work that way.... idk. Mine were purchased at the end of 2005 along with the PowerMac G5 (quad).

Two 24" LED Cinema Displays from 2009 Mac Mini?
I have been using two 24 inch Samsung's with a Mac mini for about 6 months and it's been great until one of the monitors failed me last week. After some research I purchased a new 24" LED ACD and it's a beautiful monitor that blows away my other 24" Samsung. I'm thinking about getting another 24" LED ACD and my question is: Has anyone connected 2 24" LED ACD's to a Mac mini using: http://www.atlona.com/Atlona-DVI-to-Mini-DisplayPort-Converter-p-17859.html
My plan is to use the mini display port to connect one ACD and use the Atlona Converter to connect the other ACD through the mini DVI port on the Mac Mini. I have the Atlona converter ordered and it will be here early next week and I'll report back on the results unless someone else has already done this and knows it works.Jim Stewart1 wrote:
Just one further question, though - doesn't that mean I lose out on other uses for the Mini's only Thunderbolt port?
No, because Thunderbolt can be daisy chained. Just make sure that whatever Thunderbold Drive Enclosure you get, has dual Thunderbolt ports so that you can chain your second monitor to it.
see > Displays: Mini DisplayPort display must be last in a Thunderbolt chain
Also, can I ask why you suggest putting the 20" on HDMI? If it came to running a single monitor + Thunderbolt RAID setup, I'd like to have the 23" on the HDMI.
Mostly because the Thunderbolt/Mini DisplayPort supports higher resolutions than the HDMI port.
HDMI to DVI only supports 1920x1200
Thunderbolt port supports 2560x1600
Would that be problematic?
Not as long as the 23" monitors native resolution is 1920x1200 or less. -

Can I use iMac as display for new mac mini?
can I hook my early 2008 24" Core 2 Duo iMac to a new Mac Mini to use as a display?
I love the display, but my iMac is getting too slow, even with the maximally upgraded RAM to 4 GB. I don't want to get rid of my iMac, so I was thinking of buying a Mac Mini to attach it.
I'm worried that the OS X Yosemite will make my iMac even slower.
Any suggestions?
NickNot without a standalone monitor; that iMac doesn't support video in.
