How to manage ALL of my photos

I haven't found a good way to manage ALL of my photos, across multiple computers in my house (3 laptops & an external hard drive with large photo archive). Currently have different iphoto libraries on each machine. Want an easy way to merge all photos into one easily accessible archive. When I try to access the large archive over my wireless network, it usually crashes iphoto, because it takes too long to load.

The only way to merge iPhoto Libraries is with the paid version ($20) of iPhoto Library Manager
I've not heard of a slow network crashing iPhoto, why do you think that's the cause.
Note: A strong warning: If you're trying to edit the Library (that is, make albums, move photos around, keyword, make books or slideshows etc.) or edit individual photos in it via Wireless be very careful. Dropouts are a common fact of wireless networking, and should one occur while the app is writing to the database then your Library will be damaged. Simply, I would not do this with my Libraries.

Photostream in the cloud only keeps photos from the last 30 days (subject to a 1,000 photo limit). When photostream syncs the photos to your device they will stay there (subject to a 1,000 photo limit) until deleted, which means you may well have more photos in your photostream album on your device than there are in photostream in the cloud.
The consequence of this is that if you turn photostream off and on again on your device (or enable it for the first time), it will only be populated with photos from the last 30 days, which may not be all the photos that were previously in the photostream album on that device.

How I figured out how to get all of my photos to Sync

Try this, hold the opt + cmd key when opening Iphoto, Check all the boxs to rebuild your library. Go get a beer (it could take a while **took mine 4 hours for 6543 photos**), if the rebuild is done. Quit Iphoto, launch Itunes (make sure all your ipod photo sync prefs are right) , and pray. It worked for me. Finally.
Exporting 6500 photos, re importing them and creating albums.... umm I don't have time, much less years to do that, especially when it shouldn't be doing this in the first place
Btw, I had this problem, made several posts, and NOBODY responded.
Look at my posts, you'll see. All of the postings I replied to are steps that got me on the right path, to making it worse. This is about as frustrating as it gets. So I called apple. I was on the phone with them for FIVE hours and no one there could help me. They said, "We'll get an engineer to help you, and get right back to you" I haven't heard a thing. VERY DISAPOINTED in apple care.
Don't count on anyone or anything from here, just takes time away from our short lives, a and replaces it with angst. Same with Apple Care. Im glad I paid for that nonsence, NOT! At least I will get a battery change out of them.
If worse comes to worse, sit back relax, and be thankful your ipod isn't floating in Mississippi.

I tell you how. dumb luck. Certainly no thanks to "Apple Care" or maybe we should call them apple "careless." I told them my issue , and what I did to fix it so far. They tell me to delete the ipod photo cache and resync. They kill me.
What kills me even more is * I preface this by stating that I am in no way a racist, and this has nothing to do with race, color, or creed, it has to do with getting good customer service. I, myself, am disabled. I have an artificial pelvis and left leg. I know my limits, you wont see me trying to get a job where my disability affects the job I was doing. Id call apple care again, but Im not fluent in some of the languages the telephone customer service agents speak. Funny, youd think that apple would try and get customer service people that can be understood over the phone. Its like hiring a blind guy to drive a school bus. They will get you somewhere, but probably not where you wanted to go. Maybe we should call the Apple HR dept and have them hire some deaf people to field service calls, would be just as smart as hiring someone who was mute, or in Their case someone that can not be understood by an English speaking person. Just my two cents. Feel free to pass it on.

HT1386 how to delete all of my photos on my ipad 2

I have an ipad 2 and am out of memory. The only thing I can remove are my photos (close to 4K of them) but am having trouble removing them.
When I go into edit and check certain photos, the delete button does not allow me to delete. I need to update to ios7 on my ipad.
I just spent several hours on my PC and have all of my photos as I want them on the PC so I am afraid to sync my ipad as I don't know
how to make sure that the control will be from the PC and not the ipad.

Photos that were copied to your iPad by syncing with your computer can be quickly removed by doing another sync. But before you click on Sync be sure to deselect the albums in the photos tab that you want to remove. Deselected albums will remain on your computer of they are there already but they will be deleted from the iPad when you click on Apply or sync.

How to filter all portrait format photos?

I would like to export all portrait format photos from Iphoto onto my digital photo frame. Is there any feature that can filter them automatically??

Slim chance of being useful in making it easier to keyword them as portrait: All the portrait ones will show up in a Smart Album based on Photo Is Edited, because the auto-rotation counts as an edit.
In my case, because I almost never edit any photos, this would mean instead of sorting through 15,000 photos looking for portrait ones, I only have to sort through 1000 photos looking for landscape ones.

How to find all audio and photo files?

My system stats say I have 400 megs of photos and 1.95 GB of audio. I have not put anything on this computer yet. It's brand new. I want to erase all the crap I don't need so I have maximum space for shooting photos and videos. I can't find what this audio and photo crap is from. I have searched in finder for any format I can think of and I just can't find them. How can I track down this stuff?
Also does anybody know roughly how much space is typically used on a brand new Mackbook Pro 15" out of the box with all the OS stuff?

There is a program call Grand Perspective that will scan your drive and show where everything is located. You can create filters for the things to scan for and list. It presents a graphical presentation based on file size and location on the drive. Hovering over an item will show the name, size, and where on the hard drive it is located.
Filtering for Images and Audio, I had 1.95 GB in the Library folder. Most was in the Application Support folder.

I need to get away from iphoto.   I use pixelmator for editing almost exclusively. I have a Sony disc hx200v camera and a Kodak.   I will need to know if my cameras (on mac) will be seamlessly supported and how to get all my existing photos safely to lig

I have several questions.   iPhoto does not meet my needs.    I would use lightroom mainly for organization and downloading photos from my camera cards.   My cameras are Sony disc-hx200v and a little Kodak I will need to know if they are fine with light room. Also I use pixelmator for photo editing and likely will use iskysoft dvd maker for mac to create my dvds once edited.      I am desperate to find a way to make my work flow work.   i.e.   I need to get photos somewhere on my mac, in this case it would be lightroom then I need to edit them in lightroom and pixelmator, then be able to get that album/slideshow/folder whatever you call it Into the dvd maker to voiceover and finish the project.      It looks like aperture would have been more to my taste but they are
also taking that away.   Yeah! Go Apple.   About all I will have left of use is an operating system and mail.     Will appreciate any help. I am 73 and doing dvd's for Amazon so I really can't afford any more programs that are snatched away and learning curves that change every 6 months.

Are you shooting in raw or jpeg?
I’m not sure there is raw support for your Sony model and you don’t say which Kodak you have. But for jpegs Lightroom will normally work.
For your existing photos it would usually be necessary to export versions to the desktop or create new folders in Finder. Those duplicates will contain the editing adjustments you have already made and can be imported into Lightroom using “Add” in the import dialog.
I would suggest you download Lightroom and use it free for 30 days. You can then test it to ensure it meets your needs. You can download from this link:

Had a new hard drive installed on my Mac. Now how to get ALL my music/photos from iPhone to Mac?

I had a hard drive crash on my Mac laptop over Xmas, and had a new one installed. The iCloud contains all my purchased music, but I need to sync from my existing iPhone to get all the songs I previously had uploaded to my library from CDs. (Don't want to do that again if I can avoid it!) My iTunes library (actually on iCloud now) is about 600 songs short. Is there a way to do this? Every time I attempt to sync, I get a warning that all my songs on the iPhone will be wiped and replaced with what's in the library. That's exactly the opposite of what I want to do.

The iphone is not a backup/storage device. It simply mirrors the selected content of your computer. The sync is one way - computer to iphone. The only exception is itunes purchases.
It has always been very basic to always maintain a backup copy of your computer for this very occasion. Use your backup copy to put everything back.
If for some reason you have failed to backup, not good, then you can purchase third party programs to retrieve the other music, at your risk.

How to sync all folders in photos

I have lots of pics on my computer that are organize in folders and sub folders,
Once i sync the ipad, i cant see folders !!! just all the pics.
Is there an option to keep the folders and sub-folders ?

Thanks, but it give you the first folders.
Any folder under the first do not show.
So, if i have 3 folders with my kids name and every kid have 4-5 folders, then i cant see there folders just all the pics together.
i would like to see for every folder its sub folders... much more easy to find the pic you want to see,

How to manage photo albums in iPad?

Well II6 is here and looks like you can create albums on iPad now. Great. However, also discovered that once you add photos to them, those albums dont sync back to your mac (itunes) or iphoto.
I use iphoto, and can sync albums down to my ipad (this is nothing new). But i cannot add photos from my ipad (or taken on my iphone) to an album downloaded from iphoto. However, you can add photos to an album created on the ipad.
Am I missing something? This seems to make no sense. If i spend all my time organizing in iphoto why would i not want those same albums i organize in ipad saved to iphoto? Ipad organization won't scale to manage all of my photos, and that is only ONE device.
Is this an oversight by Apple, or am i missing some key use case that i need to embrace? Would really appreciate input on this one.

How to manage my daughter's new phone account

We just got my 11 year old daughter her first phone (a Samsung S3 Mini). The salesman told us we would be able to use the "Family Base" to control/ turn-on-off her phone, text, web access and email and we would have full control there. Our main goal (as we explained) was to let her have the phone, texting, and gmail, but to turn off her web access (unless she was being supervised - at home). He told us we would definitely be able to keep GMail on, and separately control her web access. Now that I am looking through the Family Base control center, I'm not really seeing all that. I see you can manage phone and texting (which we've decided to let her have on), but I don't see management of web access, and I don't see exactly how to manage that separately from her ability to email.
My second issue is... I would like to activate a "Find my Mobile" or "Find My Phone" type service (because I'm worried about her leaving her phone somewhere) but I'm wondering if this service requires that her phone have web access (and maybe location services on?) so that it can function.
Surely there are other adults out there trying to manage their kids the same way I am. Can someone please give me some tips/ best practices or suggestions on how to manage all this?
In addition to my concerns about managing her web usage (while maintaining email), what's the best "find my phone" that I should implement?

A few things you can do here.
1) The Verizon Rep Lied to you
2) You can download Parental Control Apps from the Play Store that are password protected and work much better then Family Base. Look at those and dump Family Base
3) Download Where's my Droid. It will do all of the find my phone options and much more. check it out
4) You might also want to download something like Phone Tracker which will allow you to track the phone and its whereabouts near real-time so you can see where she is at all times. (Check local laws in your area first though to make sure you are legal doing this)

How to delete all the events and create new events from scratch?

I have all my photos separated into albums and I would like these albums to be considered events in iPhoto. The problem is that there are already lots of events in my iPhoto library that are not "real" events. It just so happens they were uploaded at a certain time and during one of my upgrades of iPhoto all these different uploads became different events. Of course, there are some albums I would like to become a single event as well...but I am not sure how to strip all of my photos of events and then add the photos to new events?

Select all the pics in an Album and Flag them.
Then go Events Menu -> Create Event from Flagged Photos
A new Event is created that moves the pics from their existing Event
Unflag the Photos then move to the next album. Repeat.

It just does't sync. I connect it to itunes, but nothing happens. Where it says how much space I have, it's just on ebig bar that says other. I can play my music on itunes, but not when i unplug it.
All of my photos were gone, i took and saved them with my ipod.
The photo app is saying restoring.

5 devices (6 if you count the video camera) and one family
The result is our family's photos are all over the place.
I am working on a Mobile Me Gallery to get the best shots of our kids finally in one place.
But what about ordering? Do we really have to pay shipping 3 times if we order from each of the 3 Mac's ?
*Or can you build up ONE LARGE photo order from different Mac's?* And review it?
Or can the Gallery function somehow be harnessed to create an order 'compilation'?
*iPhoto family sync* - that's whats needed!
OK I think I have described the problem - I look forward to any input from the MacSperts for solutions, work arounds, suggestions!

Sometimes an issue can be fixed with a change of software or hardware, sometimes with a behavioural change by the user(s).
Bluntly, you’re going to need to instill some discipline into this Family Jules. Wave a big stick, beg, plead or whine, but if you will insist on putting data from five devices into any of three computers there is nothing that will prevent a mess!
The best thing you can do is to use one Library as a Master Library. Then use iPhoto sharing to make all the pics available to the other machines. It’s not really that hard. The obvious candidate is the iMac, as that’s always home...
Simply tell folks to upload the pics into the iMac. Then you’ve all your pics in one place, and all problems are solved.
Does this seem a tad draconian? We the advantages are clear: backing up one library backs up all the photos. Currently, do you have a back up? What if one machine breaks? Has database corruption? How do you know you’ve got all the photos? Yes, you will have to pay shipping for each order from each machine, so it will be cheaper too.
You can gather all the pics from all the machines into the iMac library by using iPhoto Library Manager to move photos, albums, events between libraries.

How to manage photos from multiple accounts

Hi,
i am trying to solve one problem. I have one iMAC where i have two user profiles connected to different AppleIDs. Next to it there are two iPhones and two iPads. I am trying to find out, how to manage photos from all these devices using one account on iMAC. Second question is if there is any finction in iPhoto that can publish images to NAS server? Second alternative for me is to byu iCloud drive space and use Family sharing for publishing photos. Bellow text schema is attached, it is only my idea and i dont know if this could work like this. Did anyone somehow solved this configuration? Thanks
