How to manage Banners when Applications are Down ?

Hi folks,
Whenever applications ( productions ) are brought down for some maintenance reasons , we wanted to display a banner to the users of the system keeping them informed with a message.
Can anyone please tell us how to do that ?

Click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If Disk Utility reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit Disk Utility and return to the main menu.
Reinstall OS X: Select Reinstall OS X and click on the Continue button.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible because it is three times faster than wireless.

Is anyone else having trouble with Creative Cloud Tonight? ALLLLL Applications are down. None are working.

I have verified with at least 5 other people that all their applications are down and no one can sign in to the creative cloud on their desktop. I am experiencing the exact same thing. It started with Lightroom and then just stopped. I was able to just log into photoshop, but i can confirm lightroom is def not working any longer after the upgrade 2015 the other day. its horrible.

I can still launch applications, but for some reason the CreativeCloud app is hung on a network request.
I was able to force quit the Creative Cloud app, then relaunch it, and it is working.
Lightroom and Photoshop launch, but LR is hanging for about 20 seconds in the splash screen (when it normally does not).
So yes, there appears to be some sort of network/server issue with Creative Cloud right now.
But I can't find any errors listed in their status pages, so it may only be a slowdown due to a network issue outside the servers.

Using datasources: How to manage transactions when perform. update/insert?

I've been trying to find information on how datasources manage transacctions but I've been unable to find much information. I've read that for XA datasources you dont have to commit, save and rollback manually, but how are transactions managed for non-XA datasouces?+ I've only seen examples with select statements, such as in the example on this page [this page|http://developers.sun.com/jscreator/reference/techart/2/jdbc.html], but I've never seen a working example with insert and updates.
Can anyone point me to some examples?*
Also, when I use the DriverManager instead of the DataSource for doing updates/inserts I use the setTransactionIsolation(Connection.TRANSACTION_SERIALIZABLE) method. Can that be used with datasources?+

If you are using a connection pool, how are you guaranteeing that you are using the same connection throughout the same application? Look at the following:
1) You grab a connection from the pool
2) You call procedure A
3) You call procedure B and issue rollback in procedure
4) You call procedure C
5) You close your connection
Are you saying you made changes in procedure A and when you issued a hard rollback in procedure B, the changes in A were not rolled back?
I'm guessing the problem is that you are not issuing your statements using the same connection.

Router Managment Access when interface is down

Please see the topology attached.
We have a customer network with number of routers/switches. We have a management network to manage devices via telnet/ssh.
On switches we have a vlan interface for switch management while on routers we have sub-interfaces ( 802.1Q trunk, with encapsulation) connected back to the switch for the management.
Problem :
Customer has ask us to give them a access to router/switches, we have give them telnet/ssh access via management network, to access router remotely customer ssh router (the sub-interface IP address F0/0.10 on router), but when the router interface Fa0/0.10 is down ( because switch at the remote end is down), customer cannot the telnet/ssh to router.
How can I allow customer to keep accessing the router while sub-interface on the router is down ( which they are telneting to)? I am happy to change to router config, but not sure which bits.
I can't create the loopback interface and assign the IP address to it from the managment network as the router subinterface F0/0.10 is already have IP address from that subnet and router gives overlapping mask error message.
I created the new looback interface on router and give is the same IP as of F0/0.10 and configure F0/0.10 as a IP unumbered loopback 0, it;s not working either for me.
Can I somehow configure the router to respond to the telnet/ssh when subinteface is down- I am happy to move the addresses, create new interfaces , change routing etc. but I can't change the network subnet that is already assigned to customer.
Please see the topology attached.

I don't want to allocate the new subnet with /32 for the management as it will require many changes in the network such firewall etc.
There will be a single switch connected to the router physical interface F0/0, but there will be a multiple switches hanging off the first switch. ( all switches in the vlan10, including router sub-interface F0/0.10).
Customer will require access to both, switch(es) and router, customer understand that if the first switch ( that physically connects to the router interface F0/0 ) fails, access to all other switches will also fail, which is acceptable. At this point we must have access to router regardless we have lost access to the switch.
Customer want router to be accessible even if the switch(es) are down, as the router at the point router is fine and is still connected to the WAN network. Customer will lose the access to the switch(es) but should not lose the router access.
We have different IP subnets ( VRF's) for the customer data network ( LAN) and the router management, so I can't assign the router management IP address from the customer LAN subnet
Forgot to mentioned that we have three VRF's on router ( vrf-lite/ multi vrf) , one for customer data network, one for router management, one switch ( es) management.
Fa0/0.10 is in the switch management VRF, while router Loopback 0 is in the router VRF.
We have to maintain the vrf's to keep router and switch management traffic separate.
Router is always accessible to us ( not to customer) via router vrf hence its still available even if the router LAN management interface F0/0 is down.
Customer lose the access to both router and switch(es) if the F0/0 down.
The only option I can see would be to allocate a new subnet for customer router management and assign this to a new loopback and put under the switch management vrf.

How to manage Struts web application unavailbility ?

I have a web application (portal) based on Struts framework. And I am wondering how is the best way to manage the portal unavailbility (for maintenance reasons for example) ?
We can deploy a new web application/page saying that "the portal is unavailable for the moment" but it is a heavy solution and not proper for people that are currently using the portal. So not good.
Maybe I should check in the init Action of the portal in a database if the portal is available or not... but how to manage people who are currently logged in ? should I check this state in each action of the portal ? it is quite repetitive...
Do you have any idea ?

}Some user event could call a servlet which would set a flag in the DB marking it as down for maintenance and then call the static method SessionTracker.closeAllSessions( ), which effectively logs everyone out. Any attempts to access the app after that period would fail; the filter would try to connect and/or check the flag in the DB and would throw an HTTP 503 instead of executing the rest of the filter chain. No reconfiguration would ever be necessary, and you wouldn't be changing code, just adding these two new classes and a couple of entries in web.xml.

There is tab called Used By when we select a service from service registry. But it always shows empty.

How to replace sky when there are trees in the photo

I have several photos taken outdoors with a dull sky. I also have several sky shots to supply the blue sky; with or without clouds. I know a couple of ways to do that --as long as the horizon line is clear, such as roofs, etc. My preferred method is to use a tool; e.g., Magic Wand, to select the sky area and then copy/paste a blue sky image using Ctrl+Shift+V command. This makes the copied sky inserted into the original image and I'm happy with the results.
But when there are trees or other bushes between the camera and the sky, problems begin. No matter how carefully I try to include all the "holes" in those trees, the end result contains white spots where the selected section failed to follow the tree "holes". Anybody know how to fix these types of problems? I am somewhat familiar with layers-- which I have tried to use to solve this problem.

There are several ways to do this. In my experience the Alibony technique works well. You will be able to use your "good" sky pictures:

As I pointed out to you on June 5, 2014, this is how I do it after watching the Alibony video.
Open your picture (A) (File>open), and open the replacement sky picture (B)
On the sky picture (B), go to Select>all from the menu, then Edit>copy to place it on the clipboard
Go back to your picture (A), then Edit>paste. The new sky (B) should come in on a new layer
With the move tool, use the corner handles to reduce the size of the sky (B) to cover the old sky on (A)
In the layers palette, set the blending mode of (B) to darken
Set the foreground color chip to white
Get the Gradient tool out of the toolbox, and drag a foreground to transparent, linear gradient from below up to the top of the tree line, while holding down the shift key.
With a soft white brush, at reduced opacity, gently paint the horizon a bit, as we want the horizon to be a tad lighter than the rest of the sky.
If necessary, add a few clouds with the Return to Eden set.

How to disable alerts when OMS is down for maintenance?

Hi,
When we bring down OEM 12c application for maintenance for a period of time, lots of alert e-mails got sent out due to the fact the OMS is down. These alert e-mails contains the following info in the e-mail subject line:
EM Event: <Severity>:<target-name> - Agent is unable to communicate with the OMS. (REASON = Agent is Unreachable (REASON : Agent to OMS Communication is brokenFailure connecting to https://oem12-stg:4900/empbs/upload
These alert e-mails are not necessary and annoying. Does anyone know if there is a way to disable these alert e-mails temporarily during the OMS maintenance window?

How can I find which applications are using the most power?

I have recently noticed a full charge of power doesn't last as long as it used to on my iPad 2. Is there some way to determine which applications are using the most power?
I have been monitoring my home network router accesses and have noticed the iPad logs accesses every 15 seconds. This only happened recently. It had been well behaved and only accessing once or twice a day before. I installed the most recent iTunes upgrade, per suggestions during a Sync. The problems seemed to occur after this update. I have gone through all the settings and have minimized the applications requiring higher power (I switch off the location services unless I'm away from home. Likewise, I turn off my cellular carrier unless I'm away from home, etc.)
In short, how can I maximize my power usage (aside from turning it off)?

I'm really trying to find out why the battery is depleting much faster than it used to all of a sudden. I used to be able to put a full charge on it and it would last about 5 to 6 days with normal use (normal for me). Now that battery only lasts about 2 to 3 days with the same use.
I DO recharge it when it needs to be charged but this is indicating there is something else (new) that is causing the power drain.

How do I find out how much space OSX and applications are taking up on my HDD?

I am thinking of moving my OS and all applications to a SSD to free up space on my MBP.
My question is how do I find out how much space OSX and installed applications are taking up on my HDD so I know how big the SSD needs to be? Also, what is the best way to move these files across to the new SSD once installed?

If you do command-click or right click on your hard drive and select get info, it will tell you how full the HD is.

I replaced my internal drive with a SSD for performance reasons a few months ago. There are a number of ways to move your files over to the new SSD. I am a fan of the clean install, which might take a bit more time and effort but results in a very fast and trouble free mac. An easy way to do this if you are replacing your internal drive is to put the old drive in an external drive enclosure. Then you install the new SSD and install mavericks on it. In my case I used Diskmaker X to make a Mavericks installer (DiskMaker X (formerly Lion DiskMaker) . Then you can reinstall your apps from scratch, and finally move your documents over from the external drive.

Thanks Kurt. We are attempting to find the cause of the notorious two-minute spinning beachball delay. Not sure if you are aware of this problem, but it holds up Finder, Adobe InDeisgn, and other applications for two minutes while it is waiting for a response from a windows server. It shows in the log as:

Basically I have 2 machines named:
