How to manage colors in RH8

Morning all,
RH 802 generating WebHelp.
Is there one central location for managing colors in RH8?
I've created some CBT colors and named them. Now I want to change the color, but keep the name, as the color I've chosen doesn't show up very well in the Project Manager pod.
I realize I can create a new custom color, but would have to use a new name, which I'd like to avoid. It seems once a color is created and named, there's no facility for altering it.
So, is there one central UI for managing colors in RH8? Or are they stored in a file somewhere I can edit directly? How about the ability to RENAME or DELETE a custom color?
Thanks for your brainpower...

  • How to manage colors when printing on colored paper?

I created a design with correct colors and of course when I do the "simulate colored paper" the colors are off (as expected), is there an easy way to alter the colors to match the original colors so that it prints correctly on the colored paper? I figured there might be a way to subtract the color of the paper from the object colors or something.  Any workflow help is greatly appreciated!

Inks are transparent and the colours are subtractive, so I’m afraid that any amount of ‘correcting’ will never get you to where you want to go. The colours will always be tinted (or darkened) by the paper. However it may not be necessary to do anything. Take for example financial newspapers. They are often printed on pink paper yet after a time you start to stop noticing the pinkness and colour photos appear normal.

  • Managing Color with LR and the Canon Pixma Pro 9000 10.1.2.0 printer driver

I would like help understanding how to manage color in LIghtroom with the Canon Pro 9000 10.1.2.0 printer driver. When I ask LR to manage color in the Printing Module Color Management Profile, it warns me to turn off the printer managing color. But I cannot find where to do this in the driver.
The Color Options menu in the driver gives an additional choice for "Color Mode", but there are no choices here except "Standard", "Linear" or "Tone". The only Canon documentation I can find shows a choice to turn off printer management here, but this driver doesn't give me that choice.
If I look in the driver's "Color Matching", I see only two choices: ColorSync or Vendor Matching. ColorSync brings up Canon profiles like "Pro9000 Fine Art Photo Rag", but selecting one of these gives a warning of unexpected results. This pushes me back to Vendor Matching. But is this turning off the printer driver and leaving it to Lightroom?
Right now, I am getting the best results from choosing "Managed by Printer" in LR's Color Management Profile, and setting "Color Matching" in the Canon driver to "Vendor Matching". If I instead choose one of the Canon profiles in LR's Color Management Profile (and it tells me to turn off the printer managing, which I cannot do), then my prints have a slightly bluer color cast.
Is there a way to turn off the printer managing color in this driver and turn this over to LR, or am I getting the best results possible with the printer managing color anyway?
I am using a 2.4 GHz Intel iMac with OS 10.5.4, 2 gigs SDRAM, standard ATI Radeon HD 2600 Pro video card. I downloaded the Canon printer driver from their website, so I assume this is the latest. there is another driver available at their website, but for a lower bit depth. Should I abandon the 10.1.2.0 for this other one? I work with Nikon D300 NEFs, and I assumed the higher bit depth printer driver will work better with these images.
Any help will be greatly appreciated!

Dear DYP: Unfortunately, those choices are not available in the 10.1.2.0 Canon Printer driver. There are only 2 radio buttons, ColorSync and Vendor Matching. ColorSync then provides a drop-down menu, with no choice for turning off the printer driver.
But I think I found the answer. I found a deeply buried FAQ on the Canon site (no direct URL; sorry!) Here it says:
"Issue: How do I disable the printer driver color correction when using the CUPS driver in Mac OS X 10.5.x?
Solution: Change color management options for printing (Mac OS X 10.5.x)
Change color management options for printing
Open the document you wish to print.
Click 'File' and then click 'Print.'
Note: If the Print window contains only two pop-up menus, click the triangle beside the Printer pop-up menu for expanded options.
Select 'Color Matching' from the Print Options pop-up menu.
Select 'ColorSync' if you want the application you are using, and not the printer driver, to control the color management of the printed output.
Note: If you are using Adobe Photoshop CS2 or CS3 and have selected 'Let Photoshop Determine Colors', the 'Color Matching' from the Print Options pop-up menu is automatically set to 'ColorSync.'
Select 'Vendor Matching' if you want the printer driver to control the color management of the printed output."
I tried it, and chose "Automatic" as a choice in ColorSync. The choices under "Color Options" are then greyed out, implying that the Canon driver is now turned off.
The prints came out great, with no color cast, and a little brighter than the printer managed prints.
So, Vendor Managed means printer manages, ColorSync means LR manages.
Thanks, everyone, for keeping me going on tracking this down!

  • How to Enable Color Management? (DV Compression Is Lightening Gamma)

This problem has plagued me with both After Effects and Premiere. I have a project with a number of .mpeg video files (I know MPEG is a bad file choice, but it's not causing the problem--I tested this with uncompressed media also). In AE, I have a darkly lit scene with gamma turned down to produce pure blacks in the shadowy areas. When I render as DV, Windows Media, or QuickTime and play the resulting file in Windows Media Player or Media Player Classic, the file has rather ugly dark grays where pure blacks should be. I read the article on color management and thought I had found the problem, but the "Use Display Color Management" option is grayed out and I've been unable to re-enable it.
Also, I don't know if this is of any major value, but the DV and Windows Media file versions look the same in Windows Media Player as they do in Media Player Classic. QuickTime files look slightly better in Classic than in the default QT player. This issue is especially confusing since the article only acknowledged that this can happen with QuickTime, whereas I'm having this problem with all formats except uncompressed. Thanks!

    > How do I enable display color management?
Have you enabled color management for the project (i.e., selected a working color space for the project)? If not, please read
"Choose a working color space and enable color management" for an explanation of how to enable color management for a project.
"Enable or disable display color management" contains information on managing colors using your monitor's color profile.
You said that you read "the article on color management", by which I presume that you mean the "Color Management Workflow" white paper on the Adobe Design Center website. That paper links to the
"Color management" section of After Effects CS3 Help on the Web and presumes that you'll consult that document for some of the basic underlying concepts and detailed procedures.
    > And I guess it's a redundant question, but are the answers to this issue the same for Premiere as for AE?
Premiere Pro does not do color management.

  • CS6: Can't switch off color management in the printerdriver when photoshop manages colors

So this is weird: I'm using CS6 Extended and Lightroom 5 on a Windows 7 Pro machine, printing to an old Canon Pixma Ip5200R. When i print from Lightroom, i am using a special printer profile for the pixma and my photopaper, so color management is switched off in the printer driver. The photos print fine.
Now when i print the same photo from CS6, it has a magenta color cast, so clearly something is wrong with the color management. Even though i am using the same printer, the same paper, the same printer profile and  - of course! - had set photoshop to manage the colors, and switched color managent off in the printer driver. The magenta cast could be an indication that the photo is double colormanaged.
It took my quite a while to find out what happens, and this is really weird: When i re-checked the printer driver settings, i noticed that the color management settings did not stick. The canon printer driver offers the options "driver matching" "windows ICM" "none", e.g. having color management done by the printer driver or windows, or switch color management  off. So when i go to the PS print settings and set it to "photoshop manages colors", add the correct printer profile, i have to check the settings in the printer driver and make sure that color management is set to "none". I set it to "none" and click OK. Now everything should be configured correctly. But it's not - because when i re-check the print driver settings, i see color management is set to "diver matching". I can go to the print driver settings again and agian, but whenever i check, color management is set to "driver matching". This setting simply does not stick. No wonder i get a mangenta cast on my prints, the colors are doublemanaged by photoshop AND my printer driver.
Now, this is getting weirder: Only the color management settings don't stick. I can change other settings like print quality and the stick.
But - how do i get rid of this? The culprit seems to be photoshop, not the printer driver. If i print from lightroom, i can change the color management settings in the (very same) printer driver and they stick. When i set the photoshop print dialogue to "printer manages colors" i can change the color management settings in the (very same) printer driver - and they stick! So this looks as if photoshop stops me intentionally from using the correct printer driver settings, that is from switching off the printer drivers color management if it is set to manage colors.
I have already resetted my personal photoshop preferences, but this changed nothing. What am i missing? What is going wrong? Your help is very appreciated.

Hi all, Just to let you know that I finally solved my problem myself.
Essentially what had occurred was that I had updated my Epson driver for my printer , but it hadn't installed, despite informing me that it had! To cut a long story short when I checked in System preferences the older driver for Leopard O/S was still the current driver. I proceeded to ask Epson support for assistance, bu despite their efforts I could not immediately resolve the problem. They were directing me to my Utilities program to remove all traces of my current driver from Printer Utility which did not exist. When I queried this they stated it was not always visible and I should proceed to the next step then install the new driver. Problem was they required me to access this invisible utility in order to complete this process, and yes before you ask I had informed them I was using an Intel Mac with Snow Leopard 10.6.2 O/S. Finally I ignored their advice and took the following steps:
    1. I opened System Preferences and double clicked the Printer & Fax icon.
    2. I highlighted my Epson R2400 Pinter and removed it by clicking the minus sign at the bottom of the Printers window.
    3. Next I did a search and deleted any old drivers for my R2400 that were on my system with the exception of the new Driver.
    4. I restarted my Mac Pro.
    5. I reinstalled my new printer driver which I had previously downloaded from Epson Support.
    6. I restarted my Mac Pro and found that the new driver had installed correctly and full functionality had been returned to the Print Features Dialogue box i.e I could now turn of color management and access advanced features to set the quality of printing using the full spec of the R2400.
Hope this post will be helpful to others if they have a similar problem

  • How to change colors of LCD/VFD controls from SGC-Tek?

Hi Anybody got idea how to change colors of LCD/VFD controls from SGC-Tek?
I have tried but could not. When I try to make myself a nest cluster of clusters of LEDs, I can change colours but I can't do the same thing with LCD/VFD controls.
    Please check at LCD/VFD controls
    Clement

I suspect this repsonse is somewhat mis-leading, the code has no effect on the control other than setting its state, although the route is somewhat tedious for the mod.
I would imagine that the control is set up so that the pixels didn't move around when they are being used as controls.
There are nested groups and locks on the controls, which might make the ordering in the cluster easier to manage.
The following should work....... ;-) it did for me
    Open  your own new VI
    Open the main LCD VI
    Open the Browse VI Hierachy
Drag and drop the LCD VI onto your own diagram
Create a cluster from the LCD VI's connector
Now ungroup the clusters and unlock them (this is tedious) if you create your own then you could be more imaginative in the structure, I leave that for homework.
Then import a new bitmap (gif) into the control
Now update the modified contol back into the master control
........ Told you it could be done, but I am not sure the pain was worth it.
    BUT
Try the alternative control..... with colour settings as well, ANY colour and even some size control.

  • Print and Softproof colors are bad for "Application managed color"

Hello... Not sure if my problem is a Mac OS X issue, or a Lightroom issue. Either way I hope it is just user error.
While printing, my prints look good using "printer managed color", both preview and printed output look good. I am used to using "application managed color" and am getting very poor colors, in both the preview and the printed output.
I am somewhat familiar with color management, and understand the basic concepts of profiles.
I have a new iMac 20" display, that is calibrated. I am printing on a HP 8450. It appears that both the printer and LR are trying to manage my color when I am trying to do a "application managed color" print. Not being familiar with OS X, I have not been able to determine how to disable the color management of my printer driver.
If anyone has any suggestions, please help... I have been fighting this off and on all day...
One other thing... off topic, but if anyone knows how to adjust a 20" iMac 20 RGB values, please let me know. I can't see how to manually adjust the individual channels.
    Thanks, Mike

Well, it sounds like you are not getting all your ducks in a row on setting up LR for "application managed color". There aresome excellent step by steps in one or two other threads. A key point is using the individual icc profile for the specific paper not the generic.
To properly calibrate you Monitor you should use a Calibration device, like a Spyder not tweek the numbers by hand/eye.
    It is just user error.

  • Understanding how BB manage HTML in emails and attacchments.

    Hi all,
I'm trying to understand how BB manage HTML in emails and in attachments.
I created a simple HTML table with some color and no particular complications.
If I send this table as a HTML email on my BB it will be showed correctly, with all color and attribute shown.
If I package this html code into a file named try.html and than I send it as an email attachments on my BB I lost many attribute, including colors.
Can you explain me why and eventually how to solve this problem?
    Thanks.

I too am somewhat annoyed by the manner in which messages are displayed using the standard e-mail inboxes. I recently started using the Gmail application for my personal e-mail and am very happy with how cleanly messages are displayed. I hope I can find a similar application to handle my other addresses, because it is very difficult to scroll through a large volume of mail that contains HTML and URLs every day.
If anyone knows of an application that more cleanly displays messages, please do tell. Otherwise, I'm going to be doing a bit of research this evening to see what I can find. I'll post back with my findings.

  • HP Photosmart 7525: Let Aperture or Photoshop manage color

I use a MacBook Pro with the latest software updates, along with Apple Aperture, Photoshop CS6, and a host of other plug in photo editing programs. I do exensive photo and color editing with these programs, and I calibrate my monitor regularly. So, obviously, I would like my prints to look exactly as they do on screen. I do most of my printing from Aperture. The problem is, there is no option I can find in the Aperture  (and photosmart 7525) printing software that allows me to choose "let computer manage color". The only option I get is "let printer manage color" when I print from Apetture (or Photoshop). When I have made numerous color changes with my editing software, and the printer manages color, the printer changes everything, so that the final product looks nothing like my on screen photos. The question is: Using the 7525 and Apple Aperture, how do I let the computer manage color?

    Welcome to the forums Steven,
I read your post about the color quality concerns you have with your photos. My best suggestion would be to follow the troubleshooting steps for a print quality issue with the printer and if that does not help, to post this concern on the Apple Support forums to see about a better answer about the Aperture program you are using.

  • How to make color consistent from Photoshop 5 to Photoshop 6?

Hi, I recently upgraded from photoshop 5 to photoshop 6, and the colors printing out so differently.
In phothsop 5, the color management setting was on Photoshop Manages color, Adobe RGB (1998) and Relative Colorimetric.
But on 6, Adobe RGB (1998) under Printer Profile is missing.  How can I set up the color management so the colors print out consistent?
    Thank you.

What printer? What profiles? What system? Sorry, but your post is not particularly useful. You have to be much more specific.

  • Why are printer managed color prints different from Photoshop managed color prints using the same color profile?.

I'm using Photoshop 13.0.1, Windows 7, to print images using custom color profiles made with an XRite colorimeter.  However, when I print the image using Printer Manages Color, it is not the same as Photoshop Manages the colors and selecting the Canon ICC profile that (Canon 7200 MP2) that is the same as the printer managed settings.  Why are these prints not the same if the same color profile is being accessed??

    Hi WA Veghe,
    >First: DO synchronize, makes sure you have the same profile settings and color mange settings.
I don't seem to be able to synchronize between CS4 (Photoshop) and CS3 (Indesign).
It seems I have to do without synchronizing..
    >I do not seem to find HOW you are diplaying images on you screen: with Soft proofing?
What happens if you soft proof in Photoshop and InDesign on screen: View > Proof colors. Do you proof with the same profiles, both simulate paper and black on?
I can simulate Proof Colors (working CMYK), but not simulate Paper, both in Indesign and Photoshop.
Problem is: SAME settings in Photoshop and Indesign BUT the image displayed in Photoshop is brighter and more saturated.
So which image should I correct after?
    thanks for all help

  • I have lost the photoshop manages color option from my print menu in CS6.

I have lost the photoshop manages color option from my print menu in CS6. It now has colorsync manages color as an option along with printer manages color.  I don't know how to reverse this and I can no longer use my printer with any assurance of accurate color.
What could have caused this & how do I reverse it?

Assuming you have not gone to a newer version of WORD and it is just an update issue, then you should be able to go to the addins in the options of word and enable Acrobat. Sometimes the updates of WORD seem to disable the plugin. Note that the plugin is PDF Maker and shows up in the save as menu as well as an Adobe menu item in WORD. The printer is a separate process and does no require activation.
A repair of Acrobat may also solve the problem.

  • How to get color group from illustrator into flash

    Hi,
I have difficulties with the color management between Illustrator and Flash.
I have the original vector files in Illustrator and would like to use the color groups, I have in Illustrator, also in Flash.
One way doing it is using the Kuler.
But I can not get the colors from Illustrator into Kuler.
Can someone advice how to manage that process?
    Many thanks in advance!

I'm fairly new to this having only recently started using these tools again after six years, but will try to help! Go to "Explore", find a theme you like and click the "Edit" selection when you mouse over it. From there you can edit it or save a copy of it as is as whatever name you wish. In Photoshop or Illustrator, they will now show up in Adobe Color Themes (Window > Extensions > Adobe Color Themes) under "All Themes" in the drop menu. In these apps (and others that are Adobe Color Theme aware), any themes that you favorite on the site will show up under "My Favorites".
If you're using Fireworks, it's different as it still uses Kuler (Window > Extensions > Kuler).  Themes you save or favorite on the site don't automatically show up there, however you can search for themes by name, and if you select "Custom" from the theme group dropdown, you can enter up to four names that will show up in that dropdown menu and produce as many results as the window can hold for an individual term. For instance, I saved a theme as "Copy of Industrial Calm" which if I enter in the search box, the "group" is a group of one. However, if I just type "Industrial", the window fills with options, yet there are MANY more results on the Adobe Color site and you would have to be specific to get the right one in that window.
    Hope that helps.

  • Managing color - Photoshop vs printer

I'm using a Canon Pixma MP950, printing out of Photoshop on Canon's pro paper. When I choose to have Photoshop manage colors and select the profile for the printer/paper combination I'm using the results are WAY off. When I simply let the printer manage colors I get results very close to those on screen. Why would this be? I thought that by choosing a profile that actually matched my printer and paper I'd get more accurate results, not less. Also, if I send this image to a professional printer will their results be more likely to match the 'printer manages color' version (that looks like what I see on screen) or the 'Photoshop manages color' that's giving me such off-base colors?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Make sure that you turn off color management in the Printer when Photoshop manages color.
This article describes how to do it for Canon i960, but the setup for MP950 may include similar settings: (I know that IP4200 and IP6700 contain similar set-up screens.)
    http://www.steves-digicams.com/techcorner/June_2005.html
In Photoshop's Print dialog, click Page Setup and set the printer as follows:
    Main Tab:
Media Type: to match the paper you are using
Print Quality: Custom, press SET command button and move Quality Slider to the right as far as it goes (depends on paper you have chosen), Halftoning - Click Diffusion (on right)
    Color Intensity: Manual.
Click Set command button next to Color Intensity.
Uncheck Enable ICM (Windows Image Color Management).
    Print Type: None
Click Effects Tab, and make sure all boxes are unchecked.
