How to manage playlists with multiple devices?

We have multiple devices in our household that use the same Macbook Pro.  We all like different kinds of music and we are now having a difficult time trying to manage the playlists on the different devices.  How do we manually manage playlists for each separate device?  We have iPhones, iPads and iPods.

  • How to share account with multiple devices?

    3 kids with 3 devices - an iPod Touch and two iPads Mini - family shares one account with Apple/iTunes and one library on our family PC.  They use FACETIME and MESSAGES with their friends, and they all see each others messages and conversations.  How do I fix this?  Is there a setting or a way to create sub-accounts off the family account so they can still share the main library for music and video OR do I have to create separate Apple/iTunes accounts for each kid?  Is there a setting on their devices that can help?  Any help is greatly appreciated.  I'm not even sure the right question to ask...

    So I have an ipad 2 and an iphone 4s. Both are under the same apple ID. When my friends try to FaceTIme me, I only get the call on my ipad. Is there a way to to get the call to go to my phone? Or at least an option to chose which device the call goes to?

    I have a iPhone 5 and iPad but would like to find a way to communicate my calendar with others using apple and droid products. How would I do that?

    Sync your calendar with iCloud, then share it publically as explained here: http://help.apple.com/icloud/#/mm6b1a9479.  This allows non-iCloud users to view the calendar (but not edit it).

  • How to manage Undo with multiple models linked together

    Hello,
    I'm writing a java desktop application using MVC model. I'm using javax.swing.undo.UndoManager and related classes to manage the undo/redo capabilities. I know how to use it but I can't see how to implement it in a clean way when I have several models linked together. I hope someone can help...
    I have 2 models M1 and M2. M2 depends on M1, so M2 listens to M1 changes.
    Each model has its own view V1 and V2.
    Model's methods which change the model's state create an UndoableEdit to restore the previous model's state.
    UndoableEdits are combined together in a CompoundEdit created by the controller.
    Upon a user action on V1:
    1. M1 change
    => add UndoableEdit to current CompoundEdit
    => notify V1
    => notify M2
    2. M2 change
    => add UndoableEdit to current CompoundEdit
    => notify V2
    When we undo the CompoundEdit:
    1. Undo M2 change
    => notify V2
    2. Undo M1 change
    => notify V1
    => notify M2 !! PROBLEM
    3. M2 change !! PROBLEM
    => notify V2 !! PROBLEM
    And this is my problem: when undoing change on M1, I need to notify listeners (V1 and M2), but in this case M2 should not be notified because M2 has already restored its previous state in the CompoundEdit undo chain.
    A solution might be to inhibit M2 listener if we're inside a undo/redo, but I feel it's not clean and not sure it will always work... Is there another way to solve this ? Or is it my architecture which is wrong ?
    Thank you.

    Hello,
    Upon a user action on V1:
    1. M1 change
    => add UndoableEdit to current CompoundEdit
    => notify V1
    => notify M2
    2. M2 change
    => add UndoableEdit to current CompoundEditWhy?
    Do you need to be able to undo the M2 change alone in any other case than undoing M1's change?
    And if you don't add M2 change to the compound edit, doesn't the M2 update triggered by undoing the the M1 undo the M2 state automatically (thus performing the M2 undo)?
    And this is my problem: when undoing change on M1, I need to notify listeners (V1 and M2), but in this case M2 should not be notified because M2 has already restored its previous state in the CompoundEdit undo chain.
    A solution might be to inhibit M2 listener if we're inside a undo/redo, but I feel it's not clean and not sure it will always work...I agree it looks unclean (and quite dangerous actually if the app ever needs to support some form of multi-threaded model changes).

  • Can someone point me to training or guidelines on how to manage contacts across multiple devices?

    My Contacts keep getting overridden with extra entries from every email I've ever sent... I'd like to baseline and then just explicitly add or delete and have it propagate to all devices that are part of the account. It seems very cludgy the way it works, but perhaps it's user error. Please advise and thanks in advance!

    If your data is being changed without you doing it, then it could be someone else (wife, kids?) who is using the same iCloud ID.  They shouldn't be, but if that is the case for you, have them get their own iCloud accounts.

  • How does family users (with multiple devices) set-up email in iCloud?

    Husband and wife, two iPhones, an iMac, and a Macbook pro.  How do you set-up email in iCloud?  We want two @icloud.com addresses and would prefer two separate calenders.  We could share an address book.

    It is always good practice to have separate logins if more than one person is using a computer. This allows to have separate e-mail accounts, calendars etc. and share only required information.
    iCloud services are part of OS X Mountain Lion, therefore you would loose comfort as well as part of functionality if you need to switch/reconfigure iCloud accounts every time you need to access your personal information.

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
    That's simply not possible I'm afraid. You'd need to give them their own account and allowance or make it so you are required to be there to input the password when they wish to make a purchase.

    We have just moved from MobileMe, where we had a 'Family account' (and we each have our own @me.com email addresses) to iCloud. We share the Cal and Contacts on our iMac. How do we sync to multiple devices - we each have an iPad and an iPhone, but with different accounts set up for mail. Mine syncs OK to Cal and Contacts, but hers doesn't. There must be a way! Please help.

    According the this: http://www.apple.com/mobileme/transition.html, "After moving to iCloud, family member accounts are no longer linked to the master account."  You can share an iCloud calendar (see http://support.apple.com/kb/PH2690), but I don't think you will be able to share iCloud contacts unless you are signed into the same iCloud account on both phones.

    I would merge them before the migration.  Also, spend some time doing any batch changes of names and dates beforehand too.

  • How To : Sync playlists from iOS device back to itunes - Windows

    How To : How To : Sync playlists from iOS device back to itunes - Windows (May work on Mac too)
    NOTE - THIS WILL ONLY WORK IF YOU HAVE THE MUSIC FILES ON THE COMPUTER ALREADY
    If your like me and format your computers only to discover that you've lost all those time consuming playlists that you spent hours on, well your in luck.
    Without any Third-Pary programs it's possible to save those awesome playlists, and pull them back from the blink of oblivion.
    Step 1 - Connect iDevice to your computer and then open iTunes.
    Step 2 - Locate your iDevice on the left side bar on iTunes under the heading 'Devices', click the arrow on the left of the devices name and select a playlist.
    Step 3 - Right-Click the selected playlist and choose 'Export playlist', Save it as a Text file.
    Step 4 - In iTunes, up the top click 'File' then locate Library, move across to 'Import Playlist...', Select the playlist you just created and click open.
    Step 5 - Your playlist will appear on the left side bar under the heading 'Playlists', Select the playlist and attempt to play one of the songs contained.
    Step 6 - You would have been prompted that iTunes doesnt see the file, select 'Locate' and then go to the location of your music and locate the file.
    (Sorry dont have an image for this one due to having all my music already found)
    Step 7 - Doing this once will find all the music in the playlist given that it's in a similar location of the song you found.
    Congrats you have successfully moved a playlist back from oblivion

    There's a different method.
    1. On iTunes -> Devices -> <your device> -> Summary -> Check Manually manage music and videos.
    2. On iTunes -> Devices -> <your device> -> Summary -> uncheck Manually manage music and videos.
    done.

  • How Transaction Manager work with Resource Manager, like Connection pool?

    hi,
    I'm using BEA Webloigc8.1 Stateless Session Bean/DAO/Oracle stored proc.
    but I'm not quite clear how Transaction Manager work with Resource Manager, like Connection pool.
    my understanding is that, in a weblogic transaction, a stateless session bean interact with several DAOs, and for each method of DAO a connection is acquired from connection pool. I've heard that the connection will not return to pool until the transaction commits.
    My question is that, does it mean that for a weblogic transaction, multiple connections might be allocated to it? and if multiple connections are allocated, then how many oracle transactions would be started? or multiple connections share the same oracle transaction?
    I didn't feel it make sense to start multiple oracle transactions, cause deadlock might be incurred in a single weblogic transaction.
    any help appreciated!

    any help appreciated!Hi. If you configure your WLS DataSource to use keep a connection for
    the duration of a tx, it will do that, and in any case there can be
    no deadlock however many connections operate for a given XA transaction.
    Here is the best coding form for DAOs or any other user-written code
    for using WebLogic DataSources. This is important for two reasons:
    1 - Thread-safety is maintained as long as the connection is a
    method-level object.
    2 - It is crucial to notify WebLogic that you are done with a connection
    ASAP, by your calling close() on it. We will then put it back in the
    pool, or keep it under the covers for your next request if it's in a
    transaction etc. The pool is optimized for quick get-use-close scenarios.
    public void one_of_my_main_JDBC_Methods()
    Connection con=null; // Must be a method level object for thread-safety
    // It will be closed by the end of the method.
    try {
    con = myDataSource.getConnection(); // Get the connection in the try
    // block, directly from the WebLogic
    // datasource
    // do all the JDBC within this try block. You can pass the
    // connection to subordinate methods, but not to anywhere
    // that thinks it can use the connection later.
    rs.close(); // close any result set asap
    stmt.close(); // then close any statement asap
    // When you're done with JDBC
    con.close(); // close the connection asap
    con = null; // nullify it so the finally knows it's done
    catch (Exception e) {
    // do whatever catch stuff you want. You don't
    // need a catch block if you don't want one...
    finally {
    // It is important to close a JDBC connection ASAP when it's not needed.
    // without fail, and regardless of exit path. Do everything in your
    // finally block in it's own try-catch-ignore so everything is done.
    try { if (con != null) con.close();} catch (Exception ignore){}
    return ret;
    }

  • Can i make an iTunes playlist with multiple artist but only the best ratet songs? (Intelligent Playlist)

    Yeah I would like to create a Playlist with the by me best rated songs of selected artists i know i can have playlists with multiple artists but that is only possible if i tick match any so that it takes all the songs of those artists and if i select match all there is no song in the playlist...

    Bilu,
    It is a little tricky, but it can be done by using nested rules.  The playlist pictured below will do what you want:  all songs by the named artists, as long as the song has 4 or 5 stars.
    Note:  The ellipsis ("...") button is used to nest a rule.  It appears automatically on Windows, but on the Mac you have to use the Option key.

  • Playing a playlist with multiple albums in Grid View in iTunes 8

    Hi All,
    Here is a situation I came across, that was quite unexpected compared to the behaviour in iTunes 7.
    Suppose I have a playlist with multiple artists/albums. I have this playlist in Grid View. I choose this playlist from the left side navigation tree and press the play button. This playlist is set to shuffle by songs. I expect it to play a song and jump to the next song. iTunes 8 would just keep playing the same songs in the first album listed in the Grid View and would not jump to any other.
    http://img152.imageshack.us/img152/4726/itunes20080910191124oh2.jpg
    In this screenshot above, it will keep the songs in "The Very Best Of". If I press Ctrl+L (show now playing) then it would show only the songs in this album. This quite explains why it doesn't play other songs.
    To explain a bit more on what's happening:
    If I go to List View the song now playing does not have the Now Playing icon:
    http://img98.imageshack.us/img98/1113/itunes20080910191500vf3.jpg
    Notice it is playing "Opa Opa" but in the List View, it doesn't show it.
    This is because in Grid View if you play a song from the playlist, it has its own "virtual playlist"
    http://img98.imageshack.us/img98/5269/itunes20080910191525wl1.png
    Notice the now playing icon there.
    Why is this the case?
    I hope you guys understood what I was trying to explain.

    turingtest2: I had already done exactly what you described in the *"Missing Artist or Album not with others by same artist"* section of your article. But what I hadn't done was the advice you gave as the last sentence in this section...*"In addition if you change the Compilation status of tracks they may be temporarily treated as tracks from an Unknown Album, again things should resolve themselves if you close and reopen iTunes".* As soon as I closed and restarted iTunes, the Unknown Album with five tracks disappeared and the tracks were again displayed with the correct album.
    Your article is a great read, even for people who understand iTunes...there is a lot of helpful advice there to have bookmarked just in case any of the other problems you address are ever encountered. Thanks for taking the time to compile it and share it iTunes users.
