How to manage podcasts within iTunes?

Is iTunes just really deficient in managing podcasts? I just started using iTunes since I just bought an iPod, and I am subscribed to 10 or so podcasts. Some podcasts I like to keep all episodes, some I only want to keep the most recent. But it seems like the management features within iTunes only has global podcast settings (ie not for individual podcasts).
If that's true, that that will make it a huge pain in the butt to keep track of my podcasts.

oh, yeah.
You can also turn off the 'sync' function under the iPod device settings.
If you do this then you can manage your podcasts manually. This will allow you to have podcasts that are partially played without being deleted by the evil 'sync' function.
The downside to this is that you'll have to manually select and drag each podcast to the iPod. You'll also have to manually delete each file from the ipod.
hope that helps. not the best way, but it will work.

Just wanted to kick my question back up. to see if anyone had any idea how to get my video podcasts to sync from my iPad Mini to iTunes on my computer.

I need to know .. How many arabic podcasts on iTunes?

Problem with implementing that logic in a calculated column is that the value only updates when the row is modified. What you might want to do is have the logic to update the value based on your calculation as part of a timer job, that runs and updates the
value on a schedule asynchronously in the list for existing items. Sorry the solution isn't OOTB but a better way to do this.

  • How to move podcasts from iTunes to iPod...nano 2nd gen with iTunes 8.2.1,

...that don't have the little blue dot indicating that they've not been listened to? These podcasts aren't sync'ed to iPod bec iPod thinks that they have been listed to and they haven't. How to 'restore' these podcasts to their original 'unheard' status? The solution appears to manually manage podcasts, but I couldn't follow directions which I think were intended for iTunes 9 --such as find the Source and go from there (no "Source" on my iTunes).

You can also change your settings from iTunes under the 'podcasts' tab of your ipod. If you set it to sync all episodes instead of all unplayed episodes it should work just fine.
If you wanted to pick which podcasts sync but don't want to manually manage, you could also create a smart playlist that chooses all 'checked' podcasts and sync that playlist instead. Then only the podcasts you check will be synced, regardless of whether or not they've been played.

  • Manually managing podcasts in iTunes 7

    Hi,
I installed iTunes 7 for XP last night and I've had all sorts of problems. This is the one that's kiling me:
I usually use iTunes to download podcasts. I then manually drag and drop the podcasts to my iPod from iTunes. Now for some reson, iTunes won't let me drop a podcast on my iPod. I can drop a song so it seems like it is a podcast specific problem.
Does anyone know if this is a bug or some type of new "feature". If it's a bug, I might just wait for a fix (I can use iTunes to sync on my other PCs). I'm concerned that it might be some new way to manage podcasts. If so, I'll downgrade.

I found that when new Podcasts are downloaded, they show up in my library under each Podcast feed, but they are grayed out and not selectable. This NEVER happend in iTunes 6. You are able to find the file on your hard drive and if you change anything in the file name (add a space, delete a character) you can then drag it into your library or directly on your iPod. This is definetly a bug in 7.

  • Made site on iWeb, third-party host. How to get podcast on iTunes? HELP!

HELP! I want to put my podcast on iTunes, but am having major trouble figuring out how to do it. Here are the details.
I created a website using iWeb, and it includes a podcast. The website is www.insidestories.info. I am using a non-Apple host, namely BlueHost.com.
I put the first episode of the podcast onto my site. Now I want to make the podcast available on the iTunes store and other podcast directories. iWeb automatically created a subscribe button. I know I need to get the URL for the RSS feed to proceed. So what I did was publish the site, clicked on the "Subscribe" button, and that was the URL that showed up on iTunes (though it said there was no valid feed at that address). Though I'm not sure that's the right URL for the RSS feed. The URL I got was www.insidestories.info/SFAUDIO/Podcast/rss.xml
Anyway, I then tried to submit that URL for the RSS feed -- both to the iTunes store, and also to FeedBurner. Neither one recognizes that URL as having a valid RSS feed. So I'm stuck!
So my questions are: Is that the right URL, or even the right format for the URL for an RSS feed? Or is there something else I need to do to create an RSS Feed, before submitting it to the iTunes store or Feedburner? Once I get the RSS feed validated, I think I understand the steps from there. I really need to get this podcast out there soon. Thanks for any help!
    Best regards,
    Paul

  • How to manage books in iTunes 12?

As far as I can see, there's no way to manage books in iTunes 12. Or is there?
"Books" does not appear as a separate media library icon (like "Music", "Movies", "Audiobooks" etc.), so there's no way I can manage them.
They only show up in my iPad tab, where I can select/deselect them to be copied to the iPad. But there, I cannot right-click to select "Show in Finder" or some-such. I don't seem to be able to add new books (or, say, a PDF file) to the iTunes library. At least, the ones I tried do not show up in the "Books" section under "iPad" to be selectable.
Meanwhile, the books I already had in my library before are there in the "Books" folder under "~/Music/iTunes/iTunes Music". There's a playlist called "Books", but it does not contain anything. Neither the books I have in my library do show up there, nor do PDFs I tried to add to the library with "Add to Library" (drag and drop doesn't work either).

Use the ellipsis ... to enable the sources you want to see such as Books. Most sources allow you to enable a Playlists sidebar. Not quite the same as it used to be, but not too different. Other view controls are available from the drop down at the right-hand side.

  • How to manage podcast episodes by: marking favorites, writing notes, etc.

I realize this is probably only a dream, but I would love a Podcasts app in which I could mark certain episodes within a station I listen to as *favorite* so that I could come back to these favorite episodes from time to time and review their content.  What would be really cool is if I could not only mark them as favorites but also write a small note to myself as to the main info points from the podcast episode, so that when reviewing things, I could find what I am looking for easier.  Since I glean information from the many podcasts I listen to for business purposes, having a library of the single best episodes (an acompanying notes) would really enhance my podcast experience.
Is there any way to do this with the Podcasts app?
Is there a different app I should explore for this?
Does itunes support something like this (or for that matter any other type of app for my iphone 5)?
    Thanks much.

i dont know how the programs work, the ftp and rss updater and whatever, but if u use feedburner, or u can change what the name of the file it edits is, or u can create a .htacess that roots it, just stick all old episodes under what it updates in the file iWeb will update and when it updates, new episodes go on top

  • How to manage contacts in itunes?

I have synchronized my new iPhone 6 and ended up with hundred of unwanted contacts.  All email addresses and phone numbers I ever contacted ended up as contacts.  The staff in the Apple Shop told me that "you just need to manage your contacts in iTunes to delete multiple contacts at a time".  Fine, but how?  I cannot even find my contacts in iTunes.

Synchronized to what (in terms of contacts and with what type of computer)?

  • How to shuffle podcasts in itunes

I have hundreds of podcasts and I want to shuffle them in itunes. I noticed when I play one the shuffle button is there and I can push it but when the podcast is over it stops and doesn't go on. What is a way to make them shuffle? Also I have a 7th gen Nano and would like to shuffle podcasts on there but there is no shuffle button.

    Hello there, freshmotty.
The iTunes Help menu provides information that indicates playback and shuffle should be available for your podcast:
iTunes Help: Play music, video, and more.
    http://help.apple.com/itunes/mac/11.2/#itns26681
You might also try creating a podcast station using the following information:
iTunes Help: Download podcasts and educational media
    http://help.apple.com/itunes/mac/11.2/#itns3125
         Create a podcast station
Choose Podcasts from the Library pop-up menu and click My Stations.
Click near the bottom-left of the iTunes window.
Type a name for the station.
    Do one of the following:
Add podcasts to the station: Click next to the podcasts you want to include. A checkmark appears next to any podcasts you include.
Add all podcasts you subscribe to: Click On next to “Include all podcasts.”
To customize the settings for the station, click Show Settings. You can set the play order, which and how many episodes to include, and whether to include audio podcasts, video podcasts, or both. To include only episodes you haven’t played yet, select the checkbox for “Unplayed only.”The station’s settings apply to all podcasts included in the station.
    Click Done.
To view a station, click My Stations, then click the station in the list on the left. To play the station, click . To view or change the station’s settings, click .
In regards to shuffling playback on your iPod Shuffle, I also found this article which you may find useful:
iPod shuffle: Playing audiobooks and podcasts
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1831
Playing Audiobooks and Podcasts on iPod shuffle
When using iPod shuffle (1st and 2nd generation), if iPod shuffle is set to shuffle songs it will play all the audio files on iPod shuffle except audiobooks and podcasts1. To play an audiobook or podcast, set the switch on iPod shuffle to play in order .
When using iPod shuffle (3rd generation), podcasts and audiobooks will not be played when content is played from All Songs. If content is played from a playlist synced from iTunes, audiobooks and podcasts will only be played if the iPod's switch is set to play in order. In addition to playlists synced from iTunes, iPod shuffle (3rd generation) will create a special playlist for each audiobook synced and one for podcasts. When accessing these special playlists, audiobook and podcast content will play whether the iPod is set to play in order or shuffle songs. Podcast are sorted by alphabetical order and then by episode date.
Thanks for reaching out to Apple Support Communities.

  • How to manage podcasts?

I want to subscribe to a podcast, keep all unplayed episodes, and play back from oldest to newest. If I select "keep all" then literally every available episode is downloaded. After marking the 50+ I've already heard before I got the phone as played, the podcasts don't go away. If I delete them and change settings, they are all downloaded again. The windows phone desktop app doesn't appear to manage subscriptions, it mostly just transfers files. How is this supposed to work? I really want it to but this just doesn't seem right.

Previously on my Lumia 800, I was using Zune to subscribe and sync from laptop to phone.
On the 920, I now use a free app from the store called 'Podcast'. The interface is a bit weird but it works for me but doesn't support video. Benefit is that I can manually sync direct to phone, no laptop involveed.
However I understand their is a better app (not free) that I will try, called 'Podcatcher'.

  • How do get podcasts in itunes

I have a folder on line with about 50 or so podcasts (mp3) and I am trying to figure out how to add them so that people can find them from itunes. I am using Joomla for the site. Any help would be appreicated.

Could I ask you to read my page on making podcasts here:

This will work you through the process better than I can do in a forum post: then you will probably have some questions following on from it and do please post back here with them.

  • How to manage Podcasts as normal files?

I have Podcasts that I have updated and auto-deleted regularly. Sometimes, I want to treat a few files differently, and save them or put them in smart playlists while not having them show up on the main Podcast menu of mine. However, as soon as I delete them from my Podcasts folder they disappear from everywhere else. How can I stop that?
Alternatively, if I right-click an individual episode and mark it to not be auto-deleted, will it apply to just that episode, or the entire Podcast?

I'm marking this answered to get rid of it and I made another thread on the subject anyway. I'm still really annoyed that this can't be done though.

  • How to manage playlists using iTunes Match

I've read a lot of postings regarding smart playlists and horror stories of people losing their entire playlists etc. My problem seems a little smaller but frustrating at the same time. Have a 40 song dance music playlist i was going to bring to parties to use Djay to play off of. synched it to my phone no problem. Then i signed up for Match and had no issues and love the service. But when Djay told me i couldn't play DRM music, i made changes to the playlist on my iMac and go some warning that it couldn't be included on iCloud. I didn't realize it would remove that playlist from my iPhone however. Now i can't seem to sync it back onto my iPhone.

Just make the change you want and it will be pushed out to the other devices.
Your description doesn't provide us with any details to work with.

  • Why can't I manage my iBook collections within iTunes?

    Hi,
I manage my ebooks on my iOs devices within collections using the iBook app. I'm surprised to find that my iTunes software on my mac doesn't allow me to organize ebooks by collection though -- I have to do everything one at a time on the ipad.  Very frustrating, and it seems like a very stupid design flaw.
Does anyone know how to manage collections via iTunes?
    Thanks,

Thanks for the reply, but you didn't read my question apparently.
Yes, there is an Books tab. Great.
However, I can't seem to manage any collections via iTunes -- only on the iOs version of iBook. Since iTunes is meant to sync with iBook, then I would think that I could manage the core features such as collections via iTunes as well. This doesn't seem to be the case.
In short, is there a way to manage iBook collections via iTunes. Or.... do I need to go through my books (all 178 of them) one by one and manually place them into collections on my ipad -- which would be a huge pain.
