How to manage remote users?

One of our designers has asked if she could install our CS6 on her home computer which, I believe, is allowed by the Adobe license. Can she use her Adobe ID, assuming she has one, to register CS6 or will she need to use ours? Would she even need to register it in this case?
How would we deactivate her home installation if the need arises?

Assuming you have single licenses, she could install on her home machine
using your serial number but should not register it.
If you have a volume license then you should check with the reseller for
the license restrictions.

At my business, I manage our Macs' preferences using Managed Client as part of Mac OS X Server 10.6... one thing I have not been able to figure out is how to enforce settings for Remote Management. For example: I want only the administrator user to be able to control a machine, and only run reports but not copy software, etc.
I have tried configuring a machine correctly, then importing com.apple.RemoteManagement.plist and com.apple.ARDAgent.plist into Workgroup Manager. No luck. I wonder if anyone out there has solved a similar problem.

I got my 8 year old an iPad mini for Christmas and I'm about to set it up but I need some advice on using multiple IDs on one computer. I have an iPhone 4s. I assume I will need another Apple ID for the iPad mini so she can use Facetime. How do you manage two devices with different IDs on one computer? Will my movies and music be available for the iPad mini ID? What happens when I plug the iPad into my computer? Do my iPhone apps on my account disappear? Do I need to log out of my iTunes store account? Is their a danger in mixing the two accounts? I was told to be careful if you plug another iPhone into your computer because it can wipe your phone and replace it with another users info if you don't log out/in correctly. It's very confusing so if anyone could give me some advice on how to set this up and manage two IDs and devices on one computer it would be helpful. Thanks:)

Your daughter is too young to have an Apple ID because the minimum age is 13 years old. You can use her email address for FaceTime and Messages. You add the address as the contact address when you activate both of those apps. But both apps will still have to be tied to your Apple ID.
I was managing 5 different devices with one iTunes library and all devices had their own unique content on them. It is not that difficult to manage.

You must use the AirPort Utility. Management via a browser isn't supported.

How to Manage Multiple Users' Playlists

Hi - Can someone tell me the best way to manage playlists from more than one user on a single computer running Windows XP. In my case, I have four people in my house using a single computer. Each person has their own iPod and there own iTunes library. I would like to be able to download my own library plus one other person's music library (not all four) onto my iPod. You are doing what I do at home. My music is stored on a network drive though.
This is one of the recommended methods for people to manage different iPods. The most important consideration now is whether you are using users accounts or if everyone is running as admin. Also, where the files are store matters. If you are using default location the it will be /user/My Documents/My Music/iTunes.

As long as a user can access files in the other users' folder then all you have to do is use the add file or add folder function to add the files to your own library.

How to manage two users?

I would like help with a very basic question. We have a MacPro, a new iMac, and a MacBook, each of which has a user account for myself and for my wife. I am considering buying an iPad to use when we travel instead of the MacBook. I understand that with an iPad one cannot establish two or more user accounts as can be done on a computer. However, is there a reasonably convenient way for two people to share an iPad? Specifically, could each access their iCloud based accounts for contacts and calendars? I use .Mac mail, but my wife uses Hotmail, so there is not a problem there. Bookmarks would probably also be a problem. On the computers I use Safari and my wife uses Firefox, but I understand that Firefox will not run on an iPad. Traveling with two iPads would defeat my goal of lighter; in that case I may as well stick with the MacBook. Any clarifications of how an iPad would or would not work for us will be greatly appreciated.

Your understanding is correct. Only one iCloud account can be on the iPad at any given time. And the only way to change to another one would be to delete the one that was there initially, so really not something you'd want to do.
You are also correct about the browser - Firefox does not have a browser version that will run on an IOS device - so no Firefox on the iPad.
Like the iPhone, the iPad is not a multi-user device. So maybe you will need to stick with the Mac.
One suggestion, however, if you are looking for lighter - not sure what type of Mac you have, but if you do not have the Macbook Air, I would say you might want to look into an 11" version of the Air. It is small, light, and very portable....

How to manage local user home folders?

We are using Mac OS X 10.6.8 in a classroom. Hard drive has two partitions, one for OS and apps, the other for student's files. Computers are bind to the Active Directory. Unfortunately, local home folders are on the boot parition. Over a time when apps FCP and Avid are frequently used, the boot partition gets filled with files and finally it's full. With zero kb available, users cannot even login anymore. Manually deleting files by admin is cumbersome and time-consuming task.
I'm looking for a way to keep /Users folder clean. Putting user's home folders to server is not an option, because of latency issues etc. Unfortunately the local home folder is the default saving place when user issues the Save As command. I've tried to tinker with the User Template to lock the Documents folder but apps like Microsoft Word and Final Cut Pro go crazy when they cannot save there.
Forwarding /Users to other partition does not solve the problem, it just moves the problem to another place.
Logout Hook to automatically purging the files could be an solution, but there's always one hapless soul who saves his or hers files to wrong place and loses them. Or maybe a script which looks at the modfication date and deletes old files.
Any ideas?

You need to set the scratch disks in FCP and Avid to fix the problem.
Files coming from word etc, will be so minor that it'll take forever to fill up the HD with that kind of stuff.
If you wanted to move the whole home folder to another place on the system, you need to do so using OS X server. It's called Augmenting Active Directory User Records.
If you don't have an OS X Server, you may be able to change the Users Home directory on each individual computer, but it's going to be pretty cumbersome. Do so in the Accounts pane in the System Preferences.
Once you've changed the User Home folder location, you need to copy the users home folder using rsync in the terminal.
Like this:
rsync -av /Users/*username* /Volumes/*drivename*/*homefolderlocation*/

How to manage deleted user from AD

I can see this question was posted several times , but I am wondering if somebody can tell me what is actually right process when user is deleted from AD or when user or when usrer’s properties get updated.
Here is the scenario:
All users are synchronized via AD connector to CMDB, and they can be seen in User View in SCSM (configuration item- users)
User A leaves the company. The our process is to disable uses’s account
and rename it by adding the date when user object was disabled . For example
(April 15<sup>th</sup>, 2015)user name
After the next sync in User View in SCSM I cannot see user object , neither old or with disabled properties.
The user object is also not in Deleted Items View in the Administration workplace.
If an analyst wants to create a new ticket , he can by mistake choose disabled user from the picker dialog.
It tells that user still exist in CMDB, but not sure why in that case it cannot be seen in
User View.
After one month user object will be deleted and from it will stay in hidden deleted container in OU for 3 months.
As per one article from Travis , run as account needs to have list object on that folder even I do n see that on any Microsoft document. Or at least I did not find it.
So basically I need to understand if per Microsoft design user object needs to be deleted from
CMDB after the user is deleted from AD or not? I think it should not. However, we have many contractors who
leaves and comes back.
I think when they come back in the picker dialog it will be listed same user several times in this case which can be a big issue.
I need to know what actually needs to be done by AD connector and what needs to be done manually in SCSM if necessary.

We could prevent the disabled Active Directory user accounts are not imported into the SCSM CMDB through the Active Directory Connector. This can be achieved by the LDAP filters in SCSM 2012.

SSO and how to Managing User Roles/Privileges with Forms using Oracle db

We are in the process of implementing Oracle Application Server SSO with our custom Forms application using Oracle database -- all 10.2.0.1.0 version.
In our Forms Applications, we have about a dozen roles we have assigned to various users. We need to identify each user using our Forms because we are using the GLOBAL USER throughout the application.
Questions:
-- Do we have to create users/passwords in both OID and application database?
-- Is there a way to easily manage the user and passwords between SSO and Forms App/database in one place? For example, how does a user change their password once, but actually change it in both the database and SSO?
Any advice and/or direction would be greatly appreciated.

Yes, you can have global roles in the DB and assign this roles to specific OID users, and the will heritage the privilages, you can do this using Oracle Identity Management Web Tool http://hostname:7777/oiddas is not complicated.

Need to know how to better manage revolving users in a group

I have a new Beehive Online group set up for a external partner collaboration. Members of the group are only from Oracle or that external partner. While the BHO group is new, the collaboration has been in place for a long time (since 2007). Initially at Sun Microsystems, and now Oracle.
In my description here... when I say "collaboration" you can translate that to roughly equivalent to "BHO Group"....
The nature of the collaboration is that both companies move people to/from the collaboration, depending on the work in progress. I'm not saying there are changes daily, but there can be changes every month or so. It also happens that people working on the collaboration may be moved from it for many months or longer, and then get moved back to the collaboration at a later time. Ie, the may revolve in and out of the collaboration. Trouble is, when they are moved from the collaboration there is no guarantee that they ever get moved back to it. When a person is not part of the collaboration, their access to collaboration info is taken away.
So my problem is understanding how to manage this better in BHO.
I need to allow a user to be removed from a group, with the possibility (but not certainty) of adding them again.
-- my understanding that delete user would then require SysAd intervention to add them back.
-- I also am not clear on whether deleting the user affects their other group memberships.
I tried to find out more about locking a user
-- but it seems like that affects more then the group.
Whats the recommended way to deal with this?

I tried deleting the "verified" user using the group creation/manage tool.
- click "View members"
- select the checkbox next to the user
- click the button "Delete (non-Verified Users)"
Doing that, the user is not removed AND I get an error message in red at the top of the page that says:
'Only selected non-"Verified" member(s) have been deleted. Go to https://beehiveonline.oracle.com/BOLAdmin.html to delete "Verified" users'
So I went to the Admin tool:
- selected my group,
- selected the user from the list
- clicked the "Delete User" button above the list.
Got the warning pop-up about the user needing to be added back by SysAd, ignored it and clicked "OK".
Got a success pop-up with all kinds of internal response tracking stuff in it. Clicked "OK"
And the user is gone from the group in the Admin tool. HOWEVER, the user still shows up in the group list in the group create/manage tool.
Will the user disappear from that list? If not, the list would be misleading.
