How to manage video files?

Hi!
I have installed the development media server, played arround with some of the demos and now i'm looking for the possibilty to manage my VOD video files. But i can't find any tool, or informations delivered by the server how much video files are in the vod directory.
Do i need an extra tool?
Thx!

Okay - so i have to code something - the server doesn't deliver any informations about the video files by an webservice or by http? There is no possiblity in the administraion API to get this information?
Is it possible to say that the video file "example.flv" is only avaible for streaming in the vod directory between 08:00 am and 05:00 pm?

  • How to manage video files in FMS 3 ?

Hello, I have a doubt regarding file managment in FMS 3. I
want to create a video on demand aplication using FMS and I want to
catalog the videos ( to associate data such as Director, Year,
Producer, Actors, Genre, Price, Format, Duration, Language, etc.).
Where can this be done? Do I have to create a external
    (external to FMS) database?
And what about playlits? I know is possible to create
server-side playlists? Where are they created and which data do
they support? I plan to use xml playlists (rss 2.0 compatible) and
to to add all the required data ( Director, Year, Producer, Actors,
Genre, Price, Format, Duration, Language, etc.) to the playlists.
In resume, my question is: Do I have to create a external
database or is there a internal database inside FMS that can be use
    to catalog the videos?
If I have to use an external database, which is the best way
to relate the data with the video?
    Best regards

  • Where to download and manage video files at...

I take most my videos on my iPhone 4 now. I notice I can download them in iPhoto. They then show up in iMovie.
#1 - are they working off the same database/same files or is it copied over into iMovie?
I just purchased Aperture 3. It is supposed to work with video files.
I also do use a handheld HD video recorder on rare occasions, but haven't used it in a while to be honest.
I was pondering all this and am wondering the best way to manage my video. I use Final Cut Express for most of my video editing, although I do now use iMovie some since I purchased a macbook pro.
So I'm all over the place, I suppose. iPhoto to download, iMovie for some editing, FCE for editing, and now Aperture enters the picture.
I'm not sure if Aperture works off the iPhoto library or if I have to download it separately into Aperture.
Somewhere in this mixture, I guess I'm wondering the most simple direct way to manage my video files. What method should I import my video files: iPhoto? iMovie? Aperture? or does it matter? Do they all access the same basic structure of files or do they do their own thing and copy from one source to another?
And if I'm going to mix files from my iphone and hand held HD, I'm wondering the best way to basically download and manage video files.
    Suggestions appreciated.

Saving into iPhoto certainly works. If you save it there, iMovie can access it, but iMovie will not duplicate it.
You should have the option in Aperture to have Aperture be the default application and if so, your videos would be there. Once again, iMovie can see them and edit them without duplicating them.
However, to me, the most straightforward way would be to import the movies directly from your phone into iMovie. Then you can use all the library management features of the iMovie Events.
To do this, I would open the Image Capture Utility and plug in your iPhone. You should see the iPhone listed as a device in Image Capture. Right click on this device, and select iMovie as a default application. It has been a while since I did this, so that is approximate, but it should get you there.

  • How to Manage Archive Files in Oracle 10g

    Dear all
I have 10g Database server running in Archive Mode, there are huge number of archive files have been increased ,
    (1) how can i find old and obsoleted Archive files that will not be needed for recovery in future.so that i can delete them inorder to free space.
    (2) How to manage Archive Files .
    Kindly help
    Thanks
    Regards
    Farnaw

    Hello,
    (1) how can i find old and obsoleted Archive files that will not be needed for recovery in future.so that i can delete them inorder to free space. It depends on your Backup policy.
If you use RMAN you can follow the advices previously posted, if you use "user managed" Backup then, you don't need the
log files archived before the begining of the last full backup of your database.
To know when the archived log was generated and the first change included in it, you can query the v$archived_log as follow:
    alter session set nls_date_format='DD-MON-YYYY HH24:MI:SS';
    select recid, name, first_change, first_time, completion_time
    from v$archived_log;
    (2) How to manage Archive Files . You must backup the archived logs so as to be able to apply them. After making a safe backup of them on a tape, they can be
    deleted from disk.
Of course you can also keep the last archived logs on your disk (beside of backup them on tape) so that you don't have to
restore them and save time if you need them.
It depends on your needs and the free space you have.
    Hope this help.
    Best regards,
    Jean-Valentin

  • How to play video files that are in Drop box on iPod?

How to play video files that are in Drop box on iPod?

I am going to have to write a technote about this, because it comes up a lot.
Flash Player itself is designed to play SWF content as a browser plugin or as an ActiveX control (when it's IE Windows).
There is a standalone Flash Player, but that's something Adobe  provides directly as a feature of Flash CS4 Professional. It gets installed with Flash. We have made some standalone players available on http://www.adobe.com/support/flashplayer/downloads.html, but not all (and I don't know why.  Looking into it)
There are numerous 3rd party standalone SWF players out there though.  Some designed to just play video, others that play full SWF. I suggest a google search of 'play SWF standalone' and read the results.
On the Mac, consumers who want to play SWF content off their desktop can use the Adobe Media Player. You can import a local SWF (and FLV and other video) and play it in AMP.  Get it here:
    http://www.adobe.com/products/mediaplayer/
That's Mac only, doesn't work on Windows.

Why is there over ten thousand file in my "All My Files" on my new MBP. I'm very new at using ICloud. I don't understand syncing vs time vs time vs syncing! I simply have not idea how to manage my files now. I read short comments & how to's in the support sections, but nothing I've read so far explains"best practices" or turning iCloud off to get a grip on managing files. I have 250gb fast storage on the MBP itself, and 200gb in the ICloud, one would thing that's enough. The files seem too be multiplying like rabbits. IPhoto's Faces has created hundereds of "somethings" not sure what. I am sure I am very frustrated! Please comment with kindness.

Yes,I am confused. To say its just another drive is a "buzz statement".
OK, for example. If I download a document, song, or photo from ICloud, as I understand, it goes to Download in Finder. If I want to move it to a local folder of my choice on the solid state drive in my new MBP, does a copy always stay in ICloud? How do you housekeep? I have always  used to a physical drive. What is different about the mind set.  I used ICloud to store the contents of my old MBP. Once I download all the files I need, should I turn off ICloud and manage the file locally? I don't like the automatic movement of files when I don't understand the locations.
    Nope, you don't understand it.
If you download a song from the iTunes cloud storage (which is not iCloud) it goes into the iTunes music folder (generally to a subfolder therein)
If you download a document from the iCloud drive it will go wherever you chose to put it.
If you download a photo from the iCloud Photo library it will also go wherever you choose to put it.*
If you move something you have not copied it, if you want to keep a copy on the iCloud drive and in a local folder, you would copy, not move it.
There is no 'automatic' movement, you decide what to store on the iCloud drive (exactly like any other drive) and what to remove.
The iCloud drive appears as a folder in Finder, you use it just like any other, copy/paste, save, delete etc.
You can turn the iCloud drive off whenever you like, download the content to a local drive first.
    * Because the iCloud drive appears as a folder in Finder there is in fact no need to ever download anything to your Mac, everything on the drive is already on your Mac.

You don't. File transfer, by Bluetooth, has never been supported on any iPhone. To import pics/videos in your camera roll, read here:

  • Ideas of how to manage voice files on iPod

This might be a wierd one ... I bought an iPod on Satuday, really happy with it! But aside from having all my music there was was 1 other main purpose.
I'm a medical student and record all my lecture notes so I can listen back to them to help me learn it all. I travel a lot and it would be a great way to multi task and listen to lecture notes on the move. However there are loads of lectures and loads of notes so I'd really have to categorise them otherwise it will all get very confusing.
I asked 3 separate assistants in the iPod shop about folders and subfolders, they all said that I can create folders and subfolders and subfolders in subfolders in itunes and transfer them across to my iPod ...... great! Exactly what I wanted. Got home, and haven't worked out how to do it - searched online and still no luck and read in a few places that I cant even do it!
Here's what I want to be able to do, so if anyone has any ideas please let me know.
Will have folders like the following:
Neuro -> Eye -> about 10-20 voice recordings
Neuro -> Anatomy -> Neck -> about 5-10 voice recordings
Neuro -> Anatomy -> Face -> about 5-10 voice recordings
    Muscles -> Anatomy -> chap 1
    Muscles -> Anatomy -> chap 2
    Muslces -> antomy -> chap3 .... etc
    Mucles -> physiology ....
    etc
anyway, you get the idea. Probably need about 3 levels of folders.
Also, I also asked one guy if I was able to add folders to the very first menu screen you get (the one with music, photos, videos etc) ideally I would want to have folders for my modules (neuro, muslces etc) there and then the subfolders leading off from it...
Big question: is this possible? and if so, how?
If not - anyone got any ideas on how I can manage the files without having a huge long list? Or using the iPod efficiently for what I want to do.
Also - I do want to have my music files on it as well (although for me its a secondary function) - it would be nice to keep the music and the audio files separate ..
Any help would be great. Thanks

anyone have any ideas about this?

  • Aperture Library on Internal HDD with Managed Video Files

After spending quite a few hours reading through the discussions on how to set up Aperture Libraries and the best practices on where to import files and how to treat them (managed/referenced), i'm finally about to dive in, but there's still one unresolved question which i hope someone can shed some light on ...
    From what i can gather:
    1. It's best to keep the main Aperture Library on your Internal Startup Drive
    2. Use a mix of Managed and Referenced files
    3. Keep Highly rated Photos and Recent Ones as Managed
    4. Relocate older Managed Photos to an External HD to limit the size of the main Library
    5. Managed and Referenced files are not fixed, they can be changed at any time
    6. If possible, it's best to keep everything on one big Library so that all files can be found in one place, instead of using multiple libraries
My Internal HD is only 212GB and there's only about 100GB free at the moment. I've got a 2TB and another 1TB (USB connected) External HDD as well.
If i am just working with photos, i could probably juggle things around with the 70+GB avail space on my Internal Drive (assuming 10-15% is left free), but even then, it will be quite a tight setup that doesn't leave much room for growth. The thing is, i've got lots of large video files which are taking up most of the space, and there doesn't appear to be much option to keep them as managed files within the main Aperture Library.
As it is, my iPhoto library (which i've just moved from the Internal HD to the External HDD) is already about 90+GB (over half must be from videos). And i've got 200+GB more photos and videos to import into Aperture too. Before starting, i really want to make sure i've got a suitable infrastructure and system, but the rather limited space i've got on my internal Drive and the large storage requirements for my video files has got me stumped on how to proceed.
For users who have quite a fair bit of videos, what's the best way to use Aperture with managed files on the Internal drive? Is it just a matter of getting as large a Startup drive as possible, getting a Firewire connected external drive (that's faster than the USB connected ones), or is there some better work around?
One option is to keep the videos as referenced files, but (i think i read) that they won't be visible in Media Browser (and iMovie?) unless they are managed. After importing and cataloguing the videos in Aperture, i would like to access and edit them in iMovie, which is why i thought it would be essential to keep them as managed files.
Thanks for any advice and thoughts shared. It's been a long journey over the last few days to do backups, upgrade to Mountain Lion, buy Aperture, upgrade iPhoto, and read through countless discussions in these amazing forums. Hopefully, that first import is only around the corner.

    Thanks for your feedback Kirby.
You're welcome.  Sorry more knowledgeable folks haven't chirped up.
You're right, getting a larger internal drive is the way forward. It appears that (from Apple) 750 GB seems to be one of the largest sizes
I would call OWC (or browse the site) and see what the largest drive you can install is.  You might also look into replacing your system drive with an SSD, and putting a large drive in place of the Super Drive (if you have on).
750 GB should be big enough to comfortably hold your currently-being-worked-on video files.  If it's not, you should probably upgrade to a Mac Pro.
You can put not-currently-being-worked-on files on external storage (in Aperture-speak, convert them from Managed Originals to Referenced Originals).  Aperture makes it very easy to convert your Originals from Managed to Referenced and back.
(Just to be clear, the distinction is whether or not the files are inside the Aperture Library package.  You could have Referenced Originals on your system drive.)
    I've currently got a mid-2010 MBP, so i think there's a USB2.0 and a Firewire 800 port. I presume getting a External HD connected via Firewire 800 is a good temp solution.
Yes, it is.  FW-800 works fine for Libraries and for Referenced Originals.  I don't recommend relying on USB-2 (FW-400 is OK as a part-time compromise).  Note that the performance needed for a Library is much higher than that needed for Referenced Originals (they are read into system RAM).  If you need to cut corners, the first place to do it with the storage for your Referenced Originals.
There must be many other video heavy iPhone users who come across this issue with iPhoto or Aperture, but it's strange that there aren't too many discussions about this topic.
Aperture is really a photography workflow tool.  The DAM is excellent -- and it can handle video.  But nearly everyone who works regularly with video uses other programs for their workflow.

  • Anyone know how to encode  video files with 5.1 sound

So now that TV officially accepts and handles 5.1 sound....
Does anyone know how to encode their video files to include 5.1 audio?
(assuming that ones video files contain audio that is 5.1 from the original source)

    Saw this somewhere:
Ok, I managed to get Dolby Digital from a Video file. The steps are very easy:
Create an mp4 from your DVD or other source with Handbrake or Visual Hub - Audio Settings are not important
If you are ripping a DVD then open Mac the Ripper, choose Chapter extraction, open streams and select the Audio File you want to be extracted
You will now need Quicktime Pro
Open both files (the mp4 and the ac3) in Quicktime. Copy the ac3 stream and paste it to the mp4 file
Save the file as a MOV movie
    Import it in iTunes
    That was it!!!
I am now trying to figure out how to extract ac3 audio from mkv files...

  • How to detect video files in Aperture Applescript?

    Hi,
I'm writing Applescript for exporting images based on certain criteria. I do not want to include my video files in the export. How can I determine in the Applescript that a "image version" is actually a video file? Or even better, is it possible to get a list of "image version" items from an album excluding video files?
My starting point is to get "every image version" as below, and this returns also video files (which I do not want):
    tell myAlbum
set myAllImages to every image version as list
    end tell
Aperture Applescript reference doc does not contain anything with words "video" or "movie", so I'm quite stuck here...

    Hi,
the aperture suit in apple script does not know about media kinds, but once you have selected the image files like you planned, you could use the Finder suit to parse the file name and return the file extension. If the extension is "mpg" or "mov" or any other movie type then exclude it from your list.
set myfile to -- whatever you select in Aperture
    tell application "Finder"
set theext to the name extension of myfile
              return theext
    end tell
