How to "manually add songs" only

A few simple steps to manually manage your music in your iTunes so that your manually add songs to your iPod (provided the song amount, i.e. the Gb used, is less than the storage capacity of the touch device used).
Step 1.
Create a playlist and drag every song into the playlist you wish to be on your iPod/iTouch/iPhone.
Step 2.
Return to the music section in iTunes and press "cmd" and "select" at the same time on one of the 'ticks' to unselect all songs.
Step 3.
Return to the playlist and press "cmd" and "select" at the same time on one of the 'ticks' to select all songs in the playlist.
[Note in doing step 2 followed by step 3, only the songs in the playlist are checked in the music section]
Step 4.
Return to the music section and sort by checked songs
Step 5.
Select all the checked songs and drag them onto the iPod/iTouch/iPhone.
Step 6.
Return to the music section in iTunes and press "cmd" and "select" at the same time on one of the 'ticks' to select all songs.
[Now what you have is only the songs you want on your device and all the songs will show up in the manually added songs section on your device. Also by reclicking all the music in your iTunes library you avoid the unnecessary complications of songs not playing/transferring while listening to music on your computer]
A bit time consuming but it works well who like to carefully manage their library.

Hi Chris,
I will delete this thread and repost with correct terminology to avoid confusion. Also I will include the rationale behind why you would take this approach so that people can choose to see whether they will benefit from it. I'd have liked this to exist prior so I can manage my music statistics.
Your way is right also, but is not the only way to do it and is certainly not the correct way for me. You don't "manage" your music your way.
A few simple steps to manually manage your music in your iTunes so that your manually add songs to your iPod (provided the song amount, i.e. the Gb used, is less than the storage capacity of the touch device used).
Reason: This is a good approach (not the only approach might I add) if you wish for your playcount to be tracked and a failsafe way of managing your songs individually so you do not need to rely on playlists.
Step 1.
Create a playlist and drag every song into the playlist you wish to be on your iPod/iTouch/iPhone.
Step 2.
Return to the music section in iTunes and press "cmd" and click on the "touchpad" at the same time on one of the 'ticks' to unselect all songs.

  • How to manually add songs and playlists to ipod with new version of itunes?

So I didn't have any problem adding songs to my ipod nano manually until I updated itunes a few minutes ago, and found the settings completely different than previously.  I can no longer just drag songs and playlists to my ipod.  I have "manually manage music" and "enable disk use" selected.  I do not want to sync my whole library to it.  I have more songs in my library than can fit on my ipod.  And I already have my playlists set up how I want them.  Can someone help?

go to iphone, then on the page below click the Add To... icon on the top right.
then its easiest to view them by songs. and then you can drag and drop from them and click Done when finished

When I manually add songs to iphone 4s many appear gray and won't play. How do I fix this? I have the manually manage music button checked, and I can play them on itunes, but on my iphone they appear gray and won't play.  There doesn't seem to be any reason, as one song from an album will play, but the other 9 won't....

  • Can't manually add songs/video

So I've read the help file, which says to go to the "Summary" tab and select "Manually manage music and video" or something like that.
The only problem is, no such button or checkbox or anything exists on the Summary tab, or anywhere else that I've been able to find.
Truly, this is why I hate iTunes, and I was reluctant to buy an iPhone because of it. It's ridiculous that all I want to do is a few simple things that are easily done on non-Apple products, but with iTunes, there always seems to be something that makes the process painfully tedious.
So, IS there a way to manually add songs and video?? Or must I put EVERY song and video on my computer on my iPhone, or else none at all?

It's great that you've found this forum, and a quick search would have found the answer. Make a playlist, put the songs you want to put on your iphone in the playlist, sync that playlist to your phone. Anytime you want to change what's on your phone, just change what's in the playlist, then sync. Add tunes, remove tunes, whatever you want. It all works through the playlist.
If you find this process so tedious, consider that if you have different devices you might want them to have different tunes on each of them. Playlists accomplish this brilliantly. You can even have several playlists for different kinds of things, and sync multiple lists to your different devices. For example, if you've got some audiobooks, some tunes, some movies, etc., you can make separate lists for each kind, and sync only the lists you want to any of your devices.

  • How can i add songs to a family members ipod without erasing existing songs

How can i add songs to a family members ipod without erasing her existing song list.

For future reference, since I came here for the same reason, I'd like to add to the solution.  The link was not complete in explaining how to, but then again I'll just trying to attempt to fill in the gap.
After opening iTunes, on the upper left hand side is a small icon with an arrow pointing down. Click on the arrow and a menu pops out.  Click on "Show Menu Bar."  On the new bar(Older iTunes File, Edit, View, Controls, etc. bar at the top).  Click on View and then Show Side Bar.  There you can just click and drag new songs into your iDevice without any problems... hopefully...
Seriously, this helped me, so if Apple finds a way to not allow me to do this simple task of adding purchased songs into my idevices from another computer, I'll have to resort to other means.
The one idevice that's having trouble with is my iShuffle(2nd).

In the Playlists section of the iTunes Store, click All Playlists By This User.

    Do any of the following:
To change the playlist’s title and description, type any changes.
To add a song, click Add Songs, select a song, and then click Add. When you’re finished adding songs, click Done.To find a song by album, artist, or song title use the Search field. To hear a 30-second preview of the song before adding it, double-click the song’s title or click the Preview button .
To remove a song, click the “x” to the right of the Buy button for the song you want to remove.

How do I add songs from my iPod to my iTunes??

Within Windows' folder options, select the option to view all hidden and system files. Then access your iPod through My Computer. Go into the transulcent iPod "ipod_control" folder. There's a folder in there called 'Music'. All your songs are in the several folders within this folder.
Sadly they're all renamed by iTunes, but all artist, album and song name information is retained within the files. You can simple copy the files from this folder onto your hard drive and add them into iTunes as normal.

  • How do I add songs to Itunes 12 playlist?

My computer operating system is Windows Vista. How to I add songs to a playlist in iTunes 12?

    Hi Esaurus,
    Welcome to Apple Support Communities.
The article linked below answers your question about adding songs to a playlist in iTunes for Windows.
Create a playlist - iTunes Help
    Edit a playlist
Select the playlist and do any of the following:
Add items: Click Add To  above the playlist, and drag items to the playlist.
Change the order of songs: Drag the songs into the order you want. If you can’t drag a song, click the column heading above the numbers.
Remove an item: Select the item and press the Delete key (this does not remove the item from your library or hard disk).
    Cheers,

  • Manually add songs with itunes match

    Hi All,
I am wondering if it is possible to manually add songs to my new iPhone 5s via iTunes and the lightning cable.
I use iTunes match and love the service but it seems crazy that I would have to download 1200 songs plus across the internet to have them on my new handset.
Is there a work around that lets me manually put the songs on my iphone and then enable itunes match without loosing all those songs?
I am on a very slow and data limited internet connection and it will take me months to get all my music across.
    Cheers for any help,
    Elle

I think Apple has to comply with the reality; lately this company I adore is gettin on too much new things way before they work as it's supposed to.
Itunes match is great if I can download my songs on the go, it's a nightmare when I have to add new songs.
Why can't I manage them manually?
Why am I forced to spend money to upload them and again spend money to downolad them when I can use a cheap usb cable?
Apple stop you run and come back to do simple things that seamlessy works, that's what you're famous for; not the "200 new functions" a year that nobody is able to let work...

  • Add songs only to playlist

Is there a way I can add songs only to a playlist and not to thye itunes library? I want to make a playlist for my mom,but I don't want her songs on while I am listening.
    Will someone please help me?

If you put it in the library and then delete it, the title will still be in the playlist but it will simply have an ! at the front meaning iTunes cannot locate the song.
I want to make a playlist for my mom,but I don't want her songs on while I am listening
Do you mean that you have you music and your Mom's music in the library and you do not want to listen to her music?
Create a new playlist (File -> New playlist).
Drag the songs you like form the library to this new playlist.
Click on this playlist and press Play to play only the music on this playlist.
Do the same for your Mom's music.
