How to manually patch OS X Server bundled outdated components?

Referring to OS X Server (v3.1.2), it is bundled with Apache (v2.2.26), and mod_ssl (v2.2.26).
In the latest stable version of Apache and mod_ssl, they have lots of security patches.
Due to security concerns, I need to update these components.
Since there is no OS X Server updates for now...
How do I manually update Apache and mod_ssl, on my current server which is running Profile Manager?
(without affecting the current server configurations and files)
Thanks.

If you manually replace components used by the server software you are going to almost certainly break things especially Server.app (for administration) and in this case you would also almost certainly break Profile Manager and the Wiki server.
If you want to use Apple's server software then you have no real choice but like the rest of us to wait for Apple to include any upgrades.
As examples the bootpd and racoon software and even the ntp client included by Apple are not merely different versions compared to the latest stable releases but are actually heavily customised by Apple and behave significantly differently. As far as I am aware the Apache used by Apple is pretty standard and the main difference is the name and locations of files Appe uses, i.e. not only do Apple not use the standard httpd.conf file and location but the process of installing SSL certificates is very different to a standard Apache system.
It is possible to upgrade some components e.g. perl with minimal risk of break Apple services, it is also possible to install separate copies of items like Apache and run them separately to Apple's. However such a separate install of Apache would not serve Profile Manager up for you.

  • How to download patch directly  to server

    Hi Guys,
    Thanks for all your help.
    Please I need to download patches unto the server.
    platform: 11.5.9
    OS: Solaris
    I know I can download to my desktop and ftp patches to the server... but how can I download it directly to the server?
    Please help

    I never liked relying on OAM patch wizard because even on ATG.H RUP4, it wants to download 11.5.8 or 11.5.9 recommended patches even if you are on 11.5.10.2 (or patches for a different family pack level like FIN_PF.G or HR_PF.K RUP1 for example if you are not there). You still have to verify the patches recommended one-by-one so it ends up saving almost nothing.

    How to do patch upgradation in citrix server (SAP B1 2005B PL41 to PL49) ?
    Whether i also need to do same in db server ?
    Jeyakanthan

    Hi Jayakanthan,
    Patch Upgrade is done on SAP Server only.After Completion of Patch 49 upgrade in SAP Server
    then open SAP B1 in server machine it start to upgrade DB after completed DB Upgrade
    In Citrix Server open the SAP B1 it start the upgrade process after completed
    restart the citrix server.
    There is no separate Patch instalation in citrix server.
    in Citrix server SAP client only installed so you can just open the

  • How do I patch xorg-server?

    Hi guys,
      I've been looking to a solution to a problem I've been having for a while now. I narrowed it down to a problem with xorg and I found a patch for it. My problem isn't World of Warcraft specific but the solution to it is in this thread : http://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=47239 (listed as #2 in the first post). I want to know how apply that patch. I know that the second post on that thread asks the very same question, but the solution that was given doesn't make sense to me eaither? Should i just paste that patch into a document and run patch? How will it find my xorg server configuration? My man page for patch doesn't seem to working and --help doesn't really show me much, so i was hoping that someone could explain to me exactly how to patch xorg-server.
    Thanks a lot,
    Gokul

    still no luck. I found that i did not have base-devel installed, so I went ahead and got that. I also tried makepkg -cs but it ran into the same exact error. I went into the PKGBUILD file and commented out all the patches, yet it still fails.
    it still have no idea what : 'libdir exec_prefix prefix' is and why its complaining about it, but i guess i'll go ahead and paste what line 1965 of configure.ac is:
           AC_SUBST([libdir exec_prefix prefix])
    thanks again to everyone who has helped. Hopefully we can figure this out soon.
    P.S. I found that in the AUR a package called 'xorg-server-gentoo', do you guys think that it'll patch the xkb ("key gets stuck down") error that I have. If thats the case I might as well just get that package.

  • Manually Patch Cisco ISE Deployment

    Is there a documented process for manually installing patch bundles in ISE? We had a bad experience last spring with deploying Patch 8 through the "fire and forget" patch installation through the GUI. We have held off far too long on patching our 20 node deployment and I will be asked whether the process failure was due to Patch 8, or whether the patching process itself failed. Please let me know if there is a procedure on how one would go about manually patching a deployment via the CLI.
    Thank you

    install a patch from a primary administration node that is part of a distributed deployment, Cisco ISE installs the patch on the primary node and then all the secondary nodes in the deployment. If the patch installation is successful on the primary node, Cisco ISE then continues patch installation on the secondary nodes. If it fails on the primary node, the installation does not proceed to the secondary nodes. However, if the installation fails on any of the secondary nodes for any reason, it still continues with the next secondary node in your deployment. Secondary Cisco ISE nodes are restarted consecutively after the patch is installed on those nodes. While installing a patch on secondary nodes, you can continue to perform tasks on the primary administration node.

    How do I go about setting up my Lion server to download updates for my other workstations
    Use Server Admin to turn on the Software Update Server. Give it a while to download all the updates. Done.
    What do I need to do on the client side as well so that they can download from my OS X server
    How do the clients connect to the server? Are they using central accounts via Open Directory? or are they local accounts on each machine.
    If you're using Open Directory you can control the software update server via Workgroup Manager, otherwise you'll need to walk through each machine and update its software update configuration. Apple have a tech note that describes how to manually configure each client to use your server.

    Not sure where you're getting tangled here or how much you know about OS X Server 10.6, so...
    AFAIK, Snow Leopard Server wasm't available as a download, it was a separate DVD distribution.
    Unlike more recent versions of OS X Server, the 10.6 server distributions were usually standalone DVD disks, as well.
    (There is a slight wrinkle if your Mac needs a newer version of 10.6 than your server distribution; there was a different streaming upgrade process for that.  IIRC, the appropriate OS X client version was installed first, then you booted that client version and loaded the DVD and installed OS X Server.)
    But if you have a Snow Leopard Server distribution that supports your particular Mac Mini model, then boot the DVD, use Disk Utility from the Utilities menu in the bootable DVD environment, wipe the disk, and then install OS X Server.
    You'll need a 10.6 license key, if you don't already have that.
    FWIW, here are the available manuals.

  • How could I create a "Linked Server" link from SQL Server 2008R2 64-Bit to Oracle Database 11.2 64-Bit?

    How could I create a "Linked Server" link from SQL Server 2008R2 64-Bit to Oracle Database 11.2 64-Bit?
    Let's say the SQL Server and Oracle Database are in the same Company Internet Network.
    I have the code, but I do not know how to use it. Such as what is System DSN Name? Where could I get it. What does it look like?
    Do I need to install any Oracle Client Software in order to link from SQL Server to Oracle? Or SQL Server has the built-in drivers installed already that I can directly create a Linked Server from SQL Server to Oracle?
    I need to know details. Thanks.
    USE master
    go
    EXEC sp_addlinkedserver
         @server  = '{Linked Server Name}'
        ,@srvproduct = '{System DSN Name}'
        ,@provider  = 'MSDASQL'
        ,@datasrc  = '{System DSN Name}'
    EXEC sp_addlinkedsrvlogin
         @rmtsrvname = '{Linked Server Name}'
        ,@useself  = 'False'
        ,@locallogin = NULL
        ,@rmtuser  = '{Oracle User Name}'
        ,@rmtpassword = '{Oracle User Password}'

    You need an OLE DB provider for Oracle. There is one that ships with Windows, but it only supports very old versions of Oracle. Oracle has an OLE DB provider that you can use. I don't know if it's part of Oracle Client or how it is bundled.
    You should not use MSDASQL or any DSN.

  • How to Starting and Stopping OC4J Server using Ant

    How to Starting and Stopping OC4J Server using Ant
    In the ant task definitions for ant-oracle-classes.jar (see antlib.xml) there are two tasks called
         name="restartServer" classname="oracle.ant.taskdefs.deploy.JSR88StartServer"
         name="shutdownServer" classname="oracle.ant.taskdefs.deploy.JSR88ShutdownServer"
    I thought that these would shutdown and start the OC4J server. I guessed the parameters as – (Does anyone know where 50 ant targets are documented?)
    <oracle:restartServer
    userid="${oc4j.admin.user}"
         password="${oc4j.admin.password}"
         deployeruri="${deployer.uri}"
    />
    <oracle:shutdownServer
         userid="${oc4j.admin.user}"
         password="${oc4j.admin.password}"
         deployeruri="${deployer.uri}"
    />
    This, however does not start and stop the SOA suite. To do that I've hacked this solution together -
    <path id="oc4j.console">
         <pathelement location="${oracle.home}/config"/>
         <pathelement location="${oracle.home}/jlib/startupconsole.jar"/>
         <pathelement location="${oracle.home}/opmn/lib/optic.jar"/>
         <pathelement location="${oracle.home}/lib/xmlparserv2.jar"/>
    </path>
    <target name="stop" description="stop oc4j server" depends="init">
         <java classname="oracle.appserver.startupconsole.view.Runner">
              <classpath refid="oc4j.console"/>
              <sysproperty key="ORACLE_HOME" path="${oracle.home}"/>
              <arg value="stop"/>
         </java>
    </target>
    <target name="start" description="restart oc4j server" depends="init">
         <java classname="oracle.appserver.startupconsole.view.Runner">
              <classpath refid="oc4j.console"/>
              <sysproperty key="ORACLE_HOME" path="${oracle.home}"/>
              <arg value="start"/>
         </java>
    </target>
    This sort of works – except when the SOA suite doesn't stop cleanly – and needs user interaction to press a Close button. This isn't very useful when doing a continous integration build and deploy.
    So, does anyone have any suggestions or alternative methods to do this?
    - frank

    Actually if the server throws exceptions when it stops (which it always has since we applied patch 10.1.3.3) this technique will pause until a user responds to pop-up ... So a better way (I think) is -
    <target name="start" description="start oc4j server" depends="init">
    <java classname="oracle.appserver.startupconsole.view.Runner">
    <classpath refid="oc4j.console"/>
    <sysproperty key="ORACLE_HOME" path="${oracle.home}"/>
    <arg value="start"/>
    </java>
    </target>
    <target name="stop" description="stop oc4j server" depends="init">
    <echo message="We expect OC4J *NOT* to stop cleanly, so we will timeout after 3 minutes ..."/>
    <java classname="oracle.appserver.startupconsole.view.Runner" fork="true" timeout="180000">
    <classpath refid="oc4j.console"/>
    <sysproperty key="ORACLE_HOME" path="${oracle.home}"/>
    <arg value="stop"/>
    </java>
    </target>
    <target name="restart" description="restart oc4j server">
    <antcall target="stop"/>
    <!-- wait for server to quieten down -->
    <waitfor maxwait="2" maxwaitunit="minute">
    <not><http url="http://${oc4j.http.hostname}:${oc4j.http.port}"/></not>
    </waitfor>
    <antcall target="start"/>
    </target>

  • How to getr StackTraces of all server threads

    Hi all,
    I've tried to get stacktraces for all threads on Sun Java Application Server V8. I followed the manual. I tried CTRL+\ in verbose mode. But i think i got only stack traces of some supporting java process, not of the whole server. So my question is quite simple. How to get stacktraces of all server threads on Windows 2003 server?
    I need to find some time consuming thread.
    Thank you for your advice.
    Dadman

    On the Windows server, you can get a full java stackdump to push the 'Break' key.
    I also verified in my env.
    Hope this help.
    Thanks,
    - Nocky
