How to mark as 'Not Junk' in Mail?

I no longer seem to have the option to mark mail as 'Not Junk' on my Mac.
I only have one mail account on my Mac (MobileMe) and recently some of my Facebook email notifications haven't been getting through. It turns out that a few of these emails are making their way to the Junk mail folder.
Unfortunately, I no longer get the option to mark the mail as 'Not Junk' when I open it. It doesn't matter if I open it from the Junk mail folder or move it first. Interestingly, the message isn't highlighted in brown even though it's in the Junk folder so it's as if MobileMe has decided it's junk rather than Mail on my Mac. Does that make sense?? I can't find a way to change Junk mail settings from the MobileMe web interface, though.
If anyone has any ideas, I'd be grateful!

Don't you just hate replying to your own posts??
It's not a very elegant solution (I am not a Mac expert) but I think I have come up with something.
I have created a rule in Mail>Preferences, such that if an incoming message contains the email address I want (e.g. from facebook), it will 'move' it to my MobileMe inbox. I reckon it should have gone to the inbox automatically anyway, but this seems to have worked.
Unless Apple have done something behind the scenes that I wasn't aware of?

  • Why doesn't Mail allow a Junk IMAP message to be marked as "Not Junk"?

I don't understand the behavior of Mail (Lion) when it comes to junk mail from IMAP accounts. Mail has marked an email from an IMAP account as junk (judging by the brown text color) and has moved it to the Junk mailbox. For some reason, though, Mail doesn't provide the usual function to mark it as "Not Junk".
Mail does allow marking the message as Junk, which suggests that Mail actually didn't mark it as Junk properly in the first place. Fortunately, this also provides a workaround. When I mark the message as Junk, it gets flagged with the brown paper bag symbol. After that I can mark the message as Not Junk, which removes both the bag symbol AND the brown text color.
Still, I would rather see Mail behave differently. Does anyone have an explanation for this behavior or tips to alter it?

    -Eric

Soooo, Apple, why don't your crackerjack programmers make it possible to have multiple message windows open at one time in Mail???!
It's always been available for as long as I can remember.
Eudora is archaic, ancient history, IMHO.

  • Mark as "not junk", then move to Inbox?

How can I make Mail move email I mark as "Not Junk" into the Inbox automatically, much like Entourage does?
    Thanks.

No it will continue to learn in Automatic, but it is a good practice to have your junk mail trashed after a delay of days or a week so you can intercept mails that are marked as junk but are not.

  • Mark as "not junk" on ipad

I use my devices so much that sometimes things happen in my dreams and i confuse them for being real! So I am not sure but if I'm not wrong the "flag" icon in iOS 7 Mail in a given mail in the Junk folder does give an option "Mark as Not Junk". Today I am unable to locate that option in any of my mails that were diverted to junk!
Can someone clarify this once and for all if there is such an option and if it is there why isn't it appearing on my iPad today!?
    Neerav

For mail in another folder, like the Inbox, the option is "Move to Junk", not "Mark as Junk"; the inverse operation (move out of the Junk folder) would be accomplished with the folder icon (and specifying the destination).
Since iOS Mail has no native junk-filtering function, there is no concept of marking as junk/not-junk. There is no one-button "move out of Junk" function because iOS Mail does not keep track of the original location, and it might not even be the agent that put the message into Junk.

  • 'Mark as not junk' not available

I have had some mail messages in brown indicating possible junk. There is an option under 'Mark' for 'Mark as junk mail', but not one for 'Mark as not junk'. What do I do, except file the message away and accept it? Or add sender to my address book? (I am new to Lion.)

    Hi David.
If you (successfully ) label the mail as JUNK, the Mail program eventually learns and when Mail arrives from that source, it auto marks it as JUNK.
Yes, simply highlight any unwanted mail, then delete and off it goes to Trash. Then review trash every so often, highlight the totally unwanted items ... and delete.
There is a bounce option under Apple menu > 'Message.   Not wise to use it as it signifys that the email address is open and manned ... the last thing you want them to know.
Hope this wraps up the rest of your inquiries.

  • How do I get "Notes" out of "Mail?"

When Notes from my iPhone started showing up in my desktop Mail program, I thought it was a glitch in MobileMe.
Now that I've switched to Lion and iCloud, I've notice that this is not a glitch, some idiot designed it that way.
I use Notes for things like shopping lists, to keep track of where I parked my car, what size dog collar my friends father's dog needs, etc. I don't need these bits and pieces in my inbox– they're in my iPhone in my pocket, just where they belong.
Is there a way to keep Notes from ending up in my Mail inbox?

In Mail > Preferences > Accounts tab > select account on left > mailbox behavior tab > uncheck show notes in inbox.

Try this first - Reset the iPad by holding down on the Sleep and Home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons. (This is equivalent to rebooting your computer.)
Or this - Delete the account in Mail and then set it up again. Settings->Mail, Contacts, Calendars -> Accounts   Tap on the Account, then on the red button that says Remove Account.

  • How do I mark things as not junk that end up in my junk folder

Sometimes I get an option right on the email to click "not junk."  However, these items don't seem to have this option.  I don't know how certain emails are pre-determined to go into my junk folder.  However if they some how got in there, it seems there should be a way I can mark them "not junk" for future emails from the same person or from the same group of persons.  Anyone know how to change the setting some how?   Thanks in advance!

I don't know what CurlyMolly's problem is. But I have a problem with an email that keeps ending up in my Junk folder...
"Mail maintains an internal database of information that helps it detect junk mail. When you mark messages as junk or not junk, Mail updates the junk mail database accordingly and your junk mail filter improves over time. If you change your mind about what is junk mail (for example, you want to receive someone’s messages that you previously specified as junk mail), you need to mark them as not junk."
That last part which states to "Mark them as not junk." Well, where is that? Because what is in the top part of my Mail app when I have that message selected while in the Junk folder is "Mark this as Junk". Fact is, I have a rule set up for messages from the senders email address to be moved to a specific folder. I actually have dozens of rules with emails being moved/copied here and there. This one email is my only problem child.

  • Problem with marking mail as Not Junk in IMAP account

    Hi,
I have an IMAP email account on Go Daddy that I forward all my other mail accounts for processing. I use Apple Mail to process this IMAP account and use Mail.app's Junk filter to move Junk mail to the Junk mailbox. This Junk mailbox is mapped in Mail.app to my Go Daddy Bulk Mail IMAP folder, and the Trash and Inbox are also mapped to their respective folders of this IMAP account's Mail.app is set to "Enable junk mail filtering" and "Move it to the junk mailbox".
When junk mail comes in, Mail.app correctly identifies the mail as junk and moves it to the Junk folder. However, if I find a message that Mail.app misidentified as junk and I attempt to mark it as Not Junk, the message gets a Not Junk status (not brown anymore), but the message stays in the Junk folder; Mail.app does not move it back into the Inbox.
I would assume that since both the Inbox and Junk mail (Bulk Mail) folders are IMAP and on the same account, that upon marking the message as Not Junk, this mail should be moved back into the Inbox, just like under POP.
Am I mistaken about the operation of Junk mail under IMAP? Should marking a message as Not Junk move it automatically to the Inbox? Do I have my folders and options set right? Should I possibly use a 3rd party Spam filter such as SpamSieve (where I can control its actions via Applescript)?
    Thanks for any info.
    Mike

Ah Ernie, I think you found out my "problem".
Before I upgraded to SN, I used SpamSieve to manage my POP SPAM. When I changed to SN, I did away with SpamSieve and POP, and used IMAP and Mail.app's Junk filtering. SpamSieve, since its "Mark As Junk" and "Mark As Not Junk" functionality uses Applescript, it must've moved the Not Junk message back to the inbox.
Thanks for the pointer; I may change back to SpamSieve to get back that functionality.
    Mike

  • How do you identify mail in the junk folder as "not junk"?

I came across this answer on the Apple support site:
Tell Mail that a message is legitimate by marking it as not junk. Click Not Junk in the banner of the message; or select the message, then click the Not Junk button in the Mail toolbar.
Unfortunately, I don't see "not junk" in the banner of the message (not entirely sure what a "banner" is, but I'm looking everywhere) or a thumbs up button on any toolbar.

    CTS wrote:
I do not see that option. The messages in my junk folder do not have those buttons on them.
Then they weren't marked as Junk by Mail.
Things can end up in your Junk folder in one of three ways:
    1) Mail's junk filter reviews the message and determines it is junk. It then marks it as junk and moves it into the Junk folder (if prefs set to do so).
    2) An email server marks the message with spam headers because it thinks it is spam. Mail will move those messages to Junk if you have the prefs set to trust junk mail headers. It does not mark those as Junk because it doesn't know why they have the headers set, just that they do.
    3) Your email provider has moved the message to the Spam folder on the server and you are using IMAP (or other server-based account). Again, Mail will not mark those as Junk as Mail did not make the determination that they were Junk.

  • Mark my mail as not junk

mail is moving some of my emails to junk and i want to label it "not junk".  Can't find that option anywhere with new Yosemite os x

Realized that only some of my junk mail allows me to mark as "not junk" and others don't have that option.  Not sure why.

  • In 31.3, how do you mark a message as Not Junk

T'bird help says there's a Not Junk button, but I can't find one. Thanks for your help

There are two ways to mark as Not Junk:
When viewing a message TB (or you) has marked as junk, there is a strip near the top of the message which says 'Thunderbird thinks this message is junk mail.' In that strip, there is a box on the right which says 'Not Junk'.
The other way is in the list of mail in a folder, if you right click on the message, one of the options is 'Mark'; then hovering your mouse over that you can select 'As Not Junk'.

  • How to set the flag of the mail when I read it for POP3

    HI,
    All
I know that POP3 does not support the flags. As per my knowledge the only flag POP3 supports is the DELETED. if i am not wrong.
Now what i have to do is when i fetch the mails programmatically and once i read that I want to mark that mail as read in the yahoo also. means when i reterieve the mails through my client from the yahoo mail and next time when I Open the yahoo account the mail that i have retrieve must be seen as read rather than unread.
Yahoo uses the POP3 Server for the incoming mails the same thing also happens with outlook you can find that outlook also uses POP3 as the incoming mail server and when we reterieve the mails from the yahoo using the outlook by some way Outlook marks the mails on the yahoo server as read the same thing I have to do for my client Program using the POP3 server.
If Outlook does it dispite of the POP3 server there must be some way to do the same thing for the POP3 server using the Java Mail Api.I dont know how to do that thing and mark the mails as read once I fetch them.
    Any Help is appriciated,
    Rahul.

I have tried to access the content of the message using the my program to fetch the mail but still Yahoo does not mark it as the read in its web interface.
so I want to know how to do that. and also want to know that when you are doing same thing for the outlook then it mark it as a read on the Yahoo web mail interface so I want to know how do they do it means how Outlook mark it as a read mail on the yahoo server despite of the POP3 server.
If anybody knows how outlook does that than we can do same using the Java mail Api.
    Regards,
    Rahul

  • "Not Junk" is grayed out

There's some mail I get that goes into my Junk Mail box that I'd like to mark as "Not junk", but for these particular pieces (some newsletters) the "Not Junk" button is grayed out.
Any way to force Mail to stop thinking these newsletters (but not all newsletters) are junk?
And is there a file somewhere with the sends whom I have marked as "Junk" that I can edit?

Well, it depends. If you download an application that's installed by Drag and Drop, then the application adopts the permissions of the user who installed it. That means that even though another user has access to the Applications folder, he/she could not have access to that application because he/she doesn't own it. On the other hand if an application is installed using a proper installer, then the installer gives the application the same permissions as the Applications folder meaning that all users have the ability to use the same application.
You need to think of the Applications folder like an apartment building. You can get into building but you can only get into the apartment unit (the application) for which you have the key. You can then think of the "admin" user like the superintendent who has the key for all the apartments.

  • How do you mark mail as "not junk'?

The "not junk mail" icon is not working---I highlight the mis-identified message, and the icon should change to a "thumbs-up" so I can say "not junk mail" but it doesn't change.  I have not been able to figure out how to mark things as "not junk."  Any ideas?

Which email? Yahoo, AOL, Exchange, etc.? I find that I have to do this on a webmail interface, personally.
