How to mark clips as having effects on them

In CS5.5, when a clip had an effect on them you could see a coloured line on the clip. How do I do that in Premiere CC?

Under the Time Display Settings (wrench) you can turn Show FX Badges on or off.
white: no effect
purple; effect
yellow: fixed effect (Motion etc)
green: effect + fixed effect

  • How to export clips to After Effects for Compositing

I want to export clips from my timeline into After Effects to add some compositing of clouds and sky replacement.
    FCP 7
    AE CS5
    OS 10.6.8
I dragged the clips from my timeline back into the Browser into a new bin but when I export from there, the dimensions aren't the same as my project.
My project is 1920x1080 and when I export the edited (spliced) clips from the browser, they're 720.
I don't want to go into my raw files and try and eyball where I spliced the clips b/c each video file is about 2 gigs and I'm only using a small section of each clip.
Any suggestions on how to do this?

It is much easier just to use Automatic Duck's Pro Import AE which will allow you to send your timeline to AE.
AE will use the existing media that is called for by the FC timeline, you don't have to copy/export the media files.
Used to cost several hundred dollars, now FREE as the creator has gone to work for Adobe.

P.S. The site says it is compatible up to CS5.5 which was current when development was stopped, but I use it in CS6 with no problem.

  • How to mark clip in the timeline in order to find out how long it is fast?

I think it is a shortcut which marks the clip in the timeline with in point as the start and out in the end of the clip telling me the length accurately, but what is that shortcut again?

Thanks. Works like a charm. Anyway to unmark the clip just as quick? (Deleting the in and out points set for that clip)?

The advantage goes to FCP7 if you allow that it can copy and paste filters, audio and video, transformations, and other attributes separately.
You can do that in FCPX too, as all the things you cited are listed separately in the inspector.
Here's a little gotcha. Let's say you've color corrected a few clips and you've applied an effect to one and want to paste it the other clips. You switch off color correction and copy the clip. You select the other clips and paste effects. What do you think happens? The effect is applied, but the color correction is applied as well, only it's switched off as it was in the first clip, so all the color correction on the other clips is lost. Fun, eh?
I'll try to replicate your gotcha - but no, that doesn't sound like fun at all!

  • How do I add a video effect to multiple clips in my timeline at once?

How do I add a video effect to multiple clips in my timeline at once?

or... you can command click to select all the clips you want to apply the effect to, then double click the effect in the Effects browser. (PS - you can't simply drag and drop an effect on multiple clip selections, the effect will only be applied to the clip you drop it on -- but double clicking the effect will apply it to all selected clips at once.)

  • How to add "clip marker" to clip in sequence?

    Hi,
i need to add markers to clips in my sequence. In 5.5 i'd just select the clip in the sequence and then go Marker > Clip Marker > Set.  I don't see this option in 6, was it moved or removed?  Right now i have to add a few steps and double click the clip in the sequence to load it into the viewer and then add a marker and that's a complete waste of time.  Is this the only way to do it in 6?
    Thanks

    Thanks Ann,
in case anyone else needs this. here's an image.

  • How do you preview the video effects?

    Hi,
I am just wondering how to preview the video effects in Premiere Pro without having to add them to the timeline to view them. Anyone have any idea?
    Thanks in advance.

    Kerri,
Much of where a Transition is positioned will depend on your Clips, themselves. Here's another topic for your "Autumn Reading List" - Handles.
The understanding of these will go a very long way to understanding the placement and operation of Transitions.
Here's a short bit on Handles, but the manual (if they still have those) and the Help files will give you a lot more info.
Initially, Handles are a bit of an abstract concept, but once you get it, you'll fully understand some of the behavior of Transitions. Well worth reading.
    Good luck,

I do not see a way to separate audio channels to edit them separately in Premiere Elements (any version).
Premiere Elements does have audio effects including Balance, Fill Right/Fill Left, and Swap channels, but that is not what you are seeking.
I would refer you to an audio editor such as the free Audacity for what you want to do.
Splitting and Joining Stereo Tracks - Audacity Manual
I am not sure if this is close to what you seek
    https://forums.creativecow.net/thread/3/883383
But, the opportunity seems to be in Premiere Pro, not Premiere Elements
Please review and consider and then let me your thinking on the matter relating to your Premiere Elements 12 (what operating system).
    Thanks.

  • The volume keys on my Logitech K760 wireless keyboard do not work with my 2.3 GHz, Intel Core i5 Mac mini which runs Mac OS X 10.7.4. Anyone know how to correct this without having to re-code firmware?

My first post to the Apple Support Community so it looks like all I wanted to know is covered in the title. The research I have done led me to solutions that I am not comfortable trying for fear of irreparably damaging my keyboard and/or Mac mini. Does anyone have a simpler solution? Please? Hellooooo?
Just in case the title is too long to show, I have re-pasted here:

  • Marking clips used in your edit?

How do you mark clips that you've used in your sequence?
If you have many clips in your browser/media library and you want to clearly see which clips were already used, without looking through them and comparing?
Even iMovie '11 had that function - sections of clips that were used had an orange line through them. Is it possible to do in FCPX? Other then making them your favorites?

    the best method I've found:
after you move a clip into the timeline, hit delete with the clip selected in the event browser.  This doesn't delete the clip, it simply assigns a keyword of "rejected".  Then, in the top left of the event browser, you can change the pull down menu to "hide rejected"
I do hope they just simply add another bar, but this is fast and works great in the meantime.

  • Possible to Start/Stop Mark Clips In Timeline?

    Hello,
    I'm using FCP5 on a Dual 2.7 G5 running 10.4.2
I captured a couple of DV tapes, added a Time Code Generator, and gave the footage to a client on DVD so that they could create a list of shots to not include in the final edit.
I took this list and went through making cuts at the client's listed start and stop Time Codes. The problem I am having is some of the clips left on the timeline have camera start/stop points. I would like to mark these using "DV Start/Stop Detect" so that I could create new edit points between each start/stop of the camera.
I can double click each clip in the timeline... opening it in the viewer... and then select "Mark>DV Start/Stop Detect" and this does exactly what I want. It is very tedious though. Is there anyway to automate this process for each clip in the timeline. I hope I explained what I am trying to do clearly. If not please ask questions and I can fill in details.
    Thank You,
    Matt

Thanks for the suggestion. Yes, it would have been alot smarter to run the Start/Stop Detection as my first step after capturing. I'm new to FCP, and my old NLE (Premiere Pro 1.5) would break the Camera Start/Stops into separate .avi files on the hard drive and in the project window / browser. I just didn't think about it this time... but definitely will next time.
What I ended up doing is using the track forward selection tool to select all the clips in the timeline that I wanted to mark. I created a new bin in the browser and put all of my clips in the timeline in this new bin (creating subclips?)
Then I selected all of these clips in the browser and ran the Start/Stop Detect tool. After it finished I sorted all the newly marked clips in my browser by their in points. I then selected all of my clips, dragging them back into the timeline. I put them on a new track so that I could make sure everything lined up correctly. It did. It ended up being a pretty simple fix. Just had to think about it a bit over dinner.
    Thank You,
    Matt

  • Image Button. How to mark it on slide?

    Hello!
I wonder how to mark, put attention on the Image Button?
I'm working on a project, where I use custom navigation pannel with Image Buttons. Some slides changes without navigation. And some slides paused till button pushed. I would like to pay attention on the image button, when user should push it.
Is there standart tool for it, or I should use hightlights maybe?
    Thank you)

You probably just want to use an effect, whichever one you like best. Select the button, then go to the "Window" menu, and select "Effects" to open the Effects panel. In the bottom left you'll see an "Add Effect" button, click that and experiment with your options.

  • How to get cross square pattern effect in AI?

    Hi Guys,
Please see the following screen shot. This effect how I can get in Illustrator CS4? Since there is no direction I am drawing lines manually.
FYI: I tried to create swatch for this. But not giving right results.
So, I just want to know whether is there any way to get this effect easily or this is the only way what I have now?
    Please share your opinions.
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi Jacob Bugge
Thanks for your reply. You mean that I did not create the swatch correctly?
FYI: I crated swatch like, how Mike Gondek told.
       1. To make a pattern of this draw a square with no fill or stroke on top of your lines.
       2. Cut the square, select the lines, and use paste in back
       3. Select the lines and the square and drag this to your swatches palette, you will get a icon for a pattern swatch
The empty square defines the bounding box for your pattern, and must be the backmost element in your selection.
    Hi Mike Gondek
Could you please explain clearly, how I can use the Transform Effect. Because I do have different type of objects like following screen shot. If you see the marked red color area, for that how I can apply this transform effect.

  • Mark Clip - X shortcut doesn't work for some reason. Is there an easy way to mark a clip without going into Source Monitor?

    Hi guys,
I'm using Premiere Pro CC on Windows 8.1 Pro. The Mark Clip function - X shortcut key by default doesn't seem to work.
I know that if I go into Source Monitor I can mark the clip in there but WHY ? In the old day of CS5.5 I can mark a clip (not timeline) as quick indicator for frame / sound issue of a particular clip. One key press and I'm done.
So, is there an easy way to mark a clip in Premiere Pro CC without going into Source Monitor?
    Cheers!

Hi Mark and everyone looking to find the answer,
After experimenting, I figured out the answer. This applies for the latest version of Adobe Premiere Pro CC (as of 01-Sep-2014) ver 8.0.1 (build 21)
Context: You want to add a marker to a specific clip instead of a sequence but you can't seem to do it.
    Why?
        - X key (or Mark Clip as Premiere Pro CC calls it) doesn't add a Marker to a clip. What it does is using the clip you are selecting as reference for Mark In / Out of your current sequence.
        - M key (or Add Marker as Premiere Pro CC calls it) will add a marker to your clip.
       HOWEVER:
If you are not expanding your clip to see the wave form or clip thumbnail, the marker on the clip will not show up. It used to show up in CS5.5!!!!!! Why not in CC!!!?!
It will only add the marker to the clip you are selecting. Track targeting does not matter.
If you don't select any clip, it will add a marker to your sequence.
Example: (This is the same clip and sequence)
How it looks with marker added.
Track targeting does not matter - reference number 1
Current selected clip is is the key - reference number 2
        2.  How it looks with marker added but you can't see
        3.  How it looks if you don't select the clip and hit M
    Hope this help!
    Cheers!

  • How To Annotate Clips For Later Use

All, long time user of Premiere Elements, but new to Premiere Pro....
I'm looking for an *easy* way to mark a clip (or preferably a point within a clip) as something I want to use later for an end-of-project montage.
One way seems to be to use the "insert marker" button in the timeline panel. Simple enough, but I don't see any way to later say "show me a list of any clip that has a marker in it".
I think I could click on each marker as I add it and enter some comment in the dialog box like "montage", and later find all those "montage" comments. But a) that's a few too many clicks and typing for my liking - too disruptive to my flow, and b) it's too dependent on me entering the exact word "montage" every time - any typo's or mistakenly entering "recap" or something instead, and the clip wouldn't show up.
Another way might be to check the "Good" box on the metadata(?) panel. But a) it only identifies a clip, not a point within a clip, b) I can't seem to find a way to later do a filter to bring up a list of every clip that's checked "Good", and c) I don't think I'd want to have the metadata panel open as part of my standard workflow, so every time I wanted to mark a clip, I'd have to switch the metadata panel, find the clip, and click the "X".
My perfect solution would be something like simply clicking the "insert marker" button on the timeline when I have something I want to use, then having a pre-defined filter (or something) that brought up a list of those marked clips (maybe even with an "in point" at the marked location!).
Thoughts? Seems like a fairly common workflow issue....

LOL!  Sounds like you should try FCP X!  Seriously, it's ability to automatically organize zillions of clips and sections of clips by **several** different keywords is far and away one of my favorite things about the program.
Barring that, however, I would suggest making subclips and naming them well.  You will also want to setup a keyboard shortcut (there doesn't seem to be one by default).  The menu item is under the "clip" menu.  I know it seems like a lot of work but, with a keyboard shortcut set up, all you'd have to do is mark in and out points, hit the shortcut, a dialog box will popup prompting you for a name, and you're good to go for the next clip.  Then make bins for each type of clip so you'd end up with a bin full clips names "montage_01", "montage_02" and so on.
I have found that taking the time, upfront, to organize your media **especially** if you have an awful lot of it, really saves a ton of time in the long run.  Best of all, when the deadline is looming and you need to find a specific clip, it's right there where you put it.
