How to measure LTE signal strength?

Ive used LabView for years but have been away a while.  so much is new.    Can the USRP be used for testing LTE mobile signal strength? and decode various fields like mibs and sibs? signal to noise?  CIR?  if not, is there something that is able to?
thanks

Hello Bradley,
Here is a short video showcasing one application involving NI Software Defined Radio for an 8x8 LTE MIMO, along with an article describing the application:
http://zone.ni.com/wv/app/doc/p/id/wv-2864
http://www.ni.com/white-paper/14311/en
http://electronicdesign.com/4g/getting-ready-8x8-mimo
There is a lot of additional information about USRP available at the following sites:
http://www.ni.com/sdr/
http://www.ni.com/usrp/
http://www.ni.com/white-paper/8787/en
Note that the LTE application above utilized the FlexRIO with FPGA in their system.  Using the FPGA allows you to fully customize your I/O to match the needs of your application, such as ensuring you have the bandwidth to handle LTE.  USRP products have tunable center frequency options from 50 MHz to 6 GHz, which includes the frequency spectrum of LTE measurements.  What exactly do you want to try and do with USRP and LTE?  Are there any products in particular that you are interested in?

  • How to measure LTE signal EVM

    Hi All,
    I use R&S instrument(SG and spectrum analyzer) to measure LTE-TDD EVM,(Center Freq: 2.6G, power: -30dBm)
But I am at a loss that I get the the value 87.18(EVM PDSCH 64QAM) , it beyond the limit 8.
I donot know how to make it, can anybody do me a favor?
And BTW, who can provide the remote commands for measure EVM, I want to use Labview to control it instead of manually.
    Thanks a lot
    Amanda

    Hi Amanda,
Which specific Rohde & Scwarz instruments are you using?  We have instrument drivers at ni.com/idnet for a number of devices, including some R&S SG's and analyzers.  You can also download LabVIEW drivers at their website here.  These should help you interface your instruments with LabVIEW.  You should also make sure that you have NI-VISA installed on your machine.  You can search for, download and install the appropriate version of this driver here.
    Hope this helps!

    2.connect respectively A+/A- to PCI 6052E card's ACH0/ACH8 for testing
Could you tell me the details of the second project?and give me a illustration in measurement studio with visual basic 6. 0 about the second?
In addition,I would like to measure the audio signal frequency, could you give me a illustration in measurement studio with visual basic 6.0?
    Wait for your reply!

    Dear kelven,
Thank you for contacting National Instruments.
To address your question, there are Analog Input shipping examples that demonstrate how to measure an analog input differentially, as you specify in (2).
As for measuring the audio signal frequency, you may want to check out the following KnowledgeBase. The link is:

  • Measuring cell signal strength

iOS4 displays fewer signal strength bars than iOS3 did. It is clear that many people are interpreting this as less signal strength.
Is there a way to measure signal strength numerically rather than as bars?
Is there an app that does this?
Perhaps looking at strength as a number would be a better way to determine if you have a good signal.
For those of us who have not yet upgraded to iOS4, we could get a measurement of current strength in specific locations, and compare that another iphone using iOS4, or to our own phone after updating the OS.

It seems to that this would be a more precise way to determine your signal strength.
I agree with you, Ride1992, that the best measure is whether or not your calls go through (Can you hear me now?), but people are getting really bothered and perhaps confused about the new way of presenting the signal bars. A numerical rating might be a better way.
The number of bars displayed is based on a signal strength number anyway. Why not just display this number, and people can then determine what the minimum strength needs to be for them to place/receive a call.
Just seems to me that this might be a better way to display signal strength.

  • Any apps to measure wifi signal strength?

Want to assess signal strength in various locations.  Is there an iOS app or a Mac app to do this?

Where did you get that from? It displays signal strength and noise!!!
iStumbler does display signal strength and noise. I said that it does not display a reading for SNR.  Maybe you do not understand SNR?  Do you see a column heading for SNR in iStumbler?
SNR is the raw signal data minus raw noise displayed in dBm. The percentages that iStumbler displays are not very useful, but fun to look at.
It appears that you might be able to calculate the actual SNR by using the Inspector feature of iStumbler under the Edit menu, then do the math. Let us know if this works for you. Post back if you do not know how to do this. WiFi Explorer does this for you right on the main page.
    SNR Signal Quality Chart
    40+          Superior
    35            Excellent
    30            Very Good
    25            Good
    20            Fair
    15            Low
    10            Very Low
    5              Not reliable

  • How can I query signal strength FROM an Aironet 1200 AP?

We are trying to query the signal strength of each connected client on Aironet 1200 APs from the AP.
Does anyone know of a way to achieve this?
We have examined the MIB documentation for an SNMP solution and have not found the reqired OID/MIB. This solution would be preferable, but at this point we are open to ideas.
    Thank you.

Thank you and a follow up ...
Why is no data displayed in the Aironet 1200 SNMP MIB browse web interface when querrying this oid?
When I do a MIB browse from the SNMP web interface on an Aironet 1200 to OID 1.3.6.1.4.1.522.3.12.5.1.9 I do not receive any data in the MIB browse display. The extended statistics in awcTpFdbTable is enabled.

  • How to measure Pulse signals

    Hello, Friends
I am interested in developing a data acquisition program from a sensor that gives a pulse signal. I would like that send me please some information about what VI’s I have to use inorder to began the acquisition and How I can measure the pulse frecuency. Some examples will be very excellent.
Please, write me. I will be very thankful
    Pablo

You should be able to findout the output of the signal, is it an analog voltage or is this pulse a digital pulse (ie measuring TTL Width or some number of counts for a frequency changing pulse train)?  All this is either done with DAQMX analog in vis or counter vis.  You really need a clear picture of what the signal is before you can write code.  The code should be simple once you know your signal.

  • How to measure different signals with PXI-2501

    Hello everybody,
i have a an understanding problem.
I have a PXI-2501 switch and i want to measuere signals with the pxi-4071, so far so good.
I did some voltage- measurements and everything worked fine. Then i disconnected the power source and measured the temperature with a PT1000 in four-wire-mode ... also worked fine.
But i want to measure voltage and temperature, in the same VI, so i connected the voltage signal on CH0 and the PT1000 at CH5 (in four wire mode), and now i get problems. The temperature is fluctating. There are a few measurements that seems OK, and then i see some that are far away from the truth.
The VI consists of a state machine, the measurements are done in different states, of course with the correct scan list for each measurement.
Any suggestions? Am I doing something completely wrong?
    Thanks
(and excuse for my english )

    Hi Roman,
    id I understand you right:
The temperature measurement works fine, if the sensor is directly connected to the 4071, but if connected via the 2501 you see the big deviations?
Have you measured the the resistance of the Switch-Matrix yet?
    kind regards
    Heinz

  • 2.1 firmware update listed signal strength display fix in its release notes

Summary to those who haven't read Apple's latest letter to iPhone 4 owners:
Apple is saying 'death grip' only affects the graphics of the signal strength not signal itself. Who accepts that? And will therefore fix this in the next firmware update.
But wait! This seems to be fixed in the 2.1 firmware update already!
    See 2.1 firmware update changelogs.
Google it, I don't want to post direct link as Apple may start pulling that information down.

Letter from Apple Regarding iPhone 4
    (emphasis mine)
    {quote}the formula we use to calculate how many bars of signal strength to display *is totally wrong.*{quote}
    {quote}We will issue a free software update within a few weeks that incorporates the corrected formula. *Since this mistake has been present since the original iPhone*, this software update will also be available for the iPhone 3GS and iPhone 3G.{quote}
But the 2.1 firmware had in it's release notes as one of the improvements:
    {quote}improved accuracy of the 3G signal strength display{quote}
So in 2.1 they improved the accuracy of a totally wrong formula?

  • Signal strength worse since iOS 6.1.2.

Ever since I upgraded to iOS 6.1.2, my LTE signal strength on my iPhone 5 has depleted. Where I used to get 4 bars I now get 1-2. Sometimes places I used to have LTE are 3G for some reason. It only started when I got iOS 6.1.2. Is this a software bug that will hopefully get fixed soon?
I have Verizon in case that matters.

    Hi friend,
Try to reset your idevice, pressing and holding Home/Sleep buttons until restart your device.
If the issue persists, restore your network connections, in Settings>>General>>Reset.

  • How to measure the baseline of a noisy, pulsed signal

    Hi
I am measuring the torque exerted by a large motor on a shaft using a load cell and lever arm. The shaft runs at approx 150 rpm. I have attached a drawing that shows the output I get. This is a test rig.
I have written some code that measures the maximum peak out of a group of approx 5 peaks and writes this to a shift register. This gives me an idea of the maximum torque "spike".
I also wish to measure the baseline torque (due to the bearings in the machine). Even when highly filtered (my noise filter is set to 49Hz) the signal exhibits this noise which is probably due to vibration in the system. The signal is zeroed when the motor is not running.
Does anyone have an ideas on how to measure the "baseline" torque? The large spike in torque prevents me from doing a running average. Can anyone think of a way of averaging just the noisy part of the signal to get an average value? I aim to to subtract the average baseline torque from the peak value to get an idea of the torque due to the event which causes
    the spike.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Many thanks.

Thanks for the reply. I understand what you are saying. However, I might have to modify my method for measuring the peaks if I choose to implement your idea. I have taken a screenshot of my "peak finder" code and attached it.
Bascially, the reset terminal is wired to a timer which outputs a pulse every few seconds. This resets the vi (a standard NI one I think) and sets the peak magnitude back to zero. This way, I am windowing the signal and measuring the maximum peak in every window. This is what I need to do.
    So I could use a logical filter to feed data to the running average only if;
the amplitude of the signal is less than a certain threshold
and if the current value has similar low peaks either side of it
How would you construct the code to delay the evaluation so that the values in front and behind of the current data point can be analysed?
    thanks again

  • I just purchased a wireless connection for my Tivo but the signal strength from my airport express does not allow the tivo to load data. How do I increase the signal strength?

I just purchased a wireless N network adapter for the TIVO premier and am trying to use my apple airport express to connectand it  is in the another room. I am only receiving one  bar of strength on my network adapter. How can I raise the signal strength of my airport express.

There are several things that might help, not all of which would be feasible depending on your situation:  (1) Move the TiVo unit and AirPort Express closer together.  (2) Use another AirPort Express to "extend" the network of the first AirPort Express.  Put the second AirPort Express half way between the first AirPort Express and the TiVo unit.  (3) In the general case, Power-Line equipment might allow the TiVo unit to get a good signal, but it's likely that the Ethernet port of your AirPort Express is probably connected to your broadband modem, so that solution wouldn't work for you.  (4) Changing the band or channel that the AirPort Express is using might help.  If the TiVo unit is connection on the 5 GHz band, try one of the three-digit channels, which are allowed to use higher power.

  • How to measure a current signal with NI 6211?

How to measure a current signal with NI 6211?

    Hi Clecio,
This is a charge accelerometer. It is different from the IEPE accelerometers that outputs a voltage signal.
You need a charge amplifier. Then according to the charge amplifier output we can select an appropriate module to measure the signal.
It is not possible to measure charge accelerometers with NI 9234 directly.
