PS's online help only mentions to use the Ruler to measure a straight.
The are many of capabilities, but I cannot figure it out.
I have searched all of Photoshop's tutorials, but Help is the best.
All the online tutorials on show the rudiments of Analysis.

  • How to measure an angle in Illustrator??? HELP!

    Hi,
I have a big problem that seems very easy, but I can't find a solution on internet. The problem is. I have a rectangle, all angles are 90 degrees, I know that. But how can I make Illustrator to measure this???? Using Window - info I really don't know how to do it? Is it in another place? This is a basic feature I think and I can't believe it's not possible. Please let me know or I will go crazy before Easter.
If you happen to know how to do it, I have also another question. How can I measure something in Illustrator so that it leaves a measurement on the screen, like in Corel, if I measure something, a distance for example it shows it on the screen and it stays on the paper, so if I print it, I have it. In Illustrator, I only can see it in information window, but how can I make it to stay and be printed??
    Thank you.

    Silly as it is...
Illustrator's Measure tool is useless garbage. The Line Tool makes a better measuring tool.
    1. Make sure Snap to Points and/or SmartGuides is on.
    2. Line Tool: Drag to draw a "line" (it's actually a path) connecting the two points bwtween which you want to measure the angle.
    3. Delete.
    4. DoubleClick the Line tool. The resulting dialog will tell you the angle and length of the path you just drew.
Illustrator has never provided a proper dimensions toolset, as is taken for granted in programs like Draw and Canvas (just as it has never provided such basics as geometric primitive objects with editable parameters, like rounded rectangles on which you can change the radii, or polygons on which you can change the number of sides, or arcs on which you can change the angular sweep...)
My JET_DimensionLines.jsx script is a cumbersome workaround for only the very simplest kind of linear dimensions. It will not help you label angles.
I'd highly recommend your keeping that copy of Draw up-to-date and continue to use it. There is no law that you can only use one drawing program. And Illustrator is a very antequated program that falls very short in too many very basic functions.

  • As on elements 10 how to measure an area (in pixels or %) of certain color in a picture?

I need to separate the ratio of different colors in a thermal image; how many pixels ( or %) of certain red, yellow, white etc.
Is this possible in Elements 10?

You would make a selection of the particular color, read the pixels from the histogram and divide by the total number of pixels to get the percent.
However in reality that's harder than it sounds.
One way might be to use an hue/saturation adjustment layer to help isolate a particular color and then make a selection.
    Something like this:
    original
    1. add a hue/saturation adjustment layer
    2. select the color from the dropdown menu. For example yellows.
    3. move the saturation slider to zero
    4. move the lightness slider all the way left (turns the yellows black) or all the way to the right if you have any black areas in the original image (turns the yellow white)
    5. use the magic wand tool to select the black
    6. read the number of pixels in the selection from the histogram

  • How do I automate global vector shape, mask & path transfers to Illustrator?

Using: WIN7, Adobe CS5, PS, AI (but others may appreciate answers for CS6, etc.)
When I need to move a project from  Photoshop to Illustrator, I need an automated way to prep shape and vector mask items for export--preferably preserving the structure and layout that already exists as layer names and order, character and paragraph settings, and of course global registration. My scripting is limited to recording actions, so I need to find an existing script or get coached on this. Any recommendations?
I have googled and waded through numerous forum posts trying to research this on my own, so I know about the ability to export my path collection, but that's usually inapplicable in reality. It only deals with vectors from the Paths pallette. In Photoshop, I use the Paths pallet to store master and WIP paths, but all the working paths are either shapes or vector masks--or active type layers. Often enough that it's become an issue, I'll need to move the whole project to Illustrator. Obviously, the process has issues; I'm not expecting the rastor layers or Photoshop styles to carry over, but I see no reason why I can't capture text, shape and vector mask elements.
They all have a vector component, but simply opening a PSD in Illustrator flattens (badly) the layers. I select the "Convert Layers as Objects" but have yet to see it extract editable text. I'm not sure if it even attempts to do anything with vector shapes or masks. I've got a process for moving a project one element at a time, using registration marks--but this requires turning text into shapes most of the time, especially if I am trying to preserve kerning and leading crucial to the layout. Maybe I just have not found the right info, and there is a way to transfer editable text without losing character and paragraph settings. I'd love to hear about it.
For now, I'd be happy to stop wasting time doing a ton of conversions and renaming by hand, just so I can preserve the work I've already invested.
One suggestion, posted under a multiple path export question, was to use scripting... but no one explored or explained how to go about it. I'm not asking for the impossible, however. I simply need help working out my own solution: if there is no application method for transferring the elements, try to script a method to prep those elements for export. Before I even attempt to reinvent someone's wheel, I am putting the question out there:
Does anyone know of a solution that already exists?
I appreciate hearing your advice and thank you for giving this some attention!
edit:  I kept at it and managed to open my current project PSD in AI with text and shape/mask vectors successfully--not as cleanly as I'd hoped but the relative positioning of things was acceptable. I am still interested in hearing people's suggestions on better ways to transfer work from one tool to the other, though. I know this is going to come up for me again and again...
    Thanks!

    Hi,
It sounds like you have gotten this working for your project, but you might look at this thread for a few different solutions.  http://forums.adobe.com/thread/1045757

  • How to use imported paths from Photoshop/Illustrator as motion guides

    Hi folks,
I've been raking the internet with no success for an answer to my question, but I've had no luck so far.
What I'm hoping to achieve animation wise is to have a shape move around a set path that was created in Photoshop. The reason being, it's a very specific shape (near enough a square but with curved corners and a chunk missing out of one of the sides), and I used the paths feature in Photoshop to create it and stroke the path for the smoothest possible effect. What I'd ideally like to do is import the same path I used to create the shape into Flash Professional CS6 and then use that same path to guide a small symbol around the edge of the square.
So far, I've worked out how to apply motion to a symbol through basic tweens, and then I can draw out a line using the pencil tool and apply that to the tween so it follows the pencil line instead of just going from point A to point B. The problem is, this looks awful...I'm not good enough with a mouse to create absolutely perfect shapes freehand, so I just want to be able to use the Photoshop path as my motion guide instead of having to make another one from scratch.
I've looked around for various importing methods, the most success I've had is exporting the paths to an Illustrator file, and then importing the Illustrator file into Flash directly. However, I have NO idea where these paths go when they're imported, or how to access them. If I import them to the stage, they seemingly disappear before I've even seen them, and if I import them to the library they just aren't there.
I could also do with a brief description of how paths work in Flash - I'm familiar with the Photoshop layout, what with the paths appearing in a panel next to the layers one (makes perfect sense to me, as you can just switch between the two panels to view whatever you want). I just don't understand how they work in Flash and what I should be looking for....
Many thanks in advance for any help!
    Todd

I had a play around with some variations of this. What I can't grasp is why Flash won't recognise my shape layer as a motion path. I've tried breaking it down, that doesn't work... I traced it narrowly in Photoshop and imported it as a thin line with a gap (so essentially a line with two ends), and it comes into Flash as a bitmap or something of that sort. I found an option that traces the bitmap, and appears to convert it into a shape layer...I've managed to find the optimal settings so the line is joined all the way through apart from the start and end points. The only thing is, Flash seems to not even notice this as a guide layer when I apply it to the symbol I'm trying to animate. It just doesn't even notice it's there. The object moves straight from point A to point B in a straight line, the guide layer does nothing to adjust the motion... Is it not possible for the traced line to act as a motion guide? It's a shape, it is a single line with a start point and an end point, and there are no other instances of anything else in the layer - just the line and nothing else.
This seems way more difficult than it should be...I'm sure Adobe could have integrated a MUCH easier system for importing paths from Photoshop that actually exist in Flash rather than disappearing into some abyss instead!
Here is a screenshot of what I'm working with: http://gyazo.com/4c1046767e1ee8bf99f65751b9ba81b8
The long black oval is the shape I'm trying to animate. I've tried applying tweens to it while it's in shape form and while it's in every different symbol form, all to no avail.
The black line is what I'm trying to use as the guide. Having looked online, people seem to be able to just use the "paste in place" option and it somehow knows exactly what they mean and animates around the line perfectly. I tried that and it didn't work (no surprise there), and then I tried the motion guide layer setup and it also didn't work. I'm not sure if tracing a bitmap into a shape layer somehow removes any possibility of the line being recognisable as a line or something...could that be the case?
Is there a simple way to turn a shape layer (in this case the black line) into a motion guide that I'm missing? I thought just turning the layer into a guide layer would do the trick, but obviously not :/

InDesign CS5 is not opening after deactivation/activation. How can I fix this? Illustrator and Photoshop open and are working fine. Please help!

First of all, thank you for replying so promptly to my posts this morning!
I can't remember how I got the software on his computer, but I'm pretty sure it wasn't through migration assistant.
I was looking into doing an uninstall of InDesign and a fresh install. However, I initially downloaded the CS5 suite digitally and I can't find out how I am able to perform a fresh install of InDesign. Do you know where I find this info or gain access to download just InDesign again? I can't seem to find anything in my Adobe account that shows where I might do another download.

I had Acrobat Standard 9.5 on a laptop that broke.  Adobe Acrobat Standard is paid for and all I need. I had to get a new PC (Windows 8.1) and I did downloaded Standard 9.5 but when I went to install it the installer gave me an “Error applying transforms please ensure specified transform paths are valid”.  Any ideas on how to fix this?

    Rahul,
No error numbers other than the message I mentioned previously.
I tried the transforms repair and it reported no Acrobat product (correct, none yet installed) or no administrative privileges (I am the administrator and have done previous administrative actions).

  • How to get the measure of area in HTML by Java

    Hi all,
    I know in JavaScript,
clientheight and clientlength can get the measure of area of HTML element, but how can I implement this in Java?
I understand I may need to have a much complete browser component first (for weak HTML rersolving in JDK), but I would like to know how HTML rendering works in JEditorPane and JTextPane, maybe that can help me solve the problem.
Appreciate for any suggestions and references.
    Best regards,
    KaiLiang

    Thanks lots!!
So, the View class in JDK does not deal with the width and length information, does it?
If I want to solve my problem, I have to customize View class to make it can deal with width and length information.
Is it possible to get width and lenth of elements when JEditorPane render the HTML?

  • How to make photoshop paths visible in Illustrator

I work with images from various manufacturers of construction equipment and need to be able to put a stroke around the images at times. I have images from one manufacturer that are eps files with paths and they work fine but I have another manufacturer who supplies the images as tif files with paths and they do not appear in illustrator. Is there some trick to importing the images so that the paths are usable. Do I need to ask this question in the Photoshop forum instead?

    >...eps files with paths
    >...tif files with paths
I assume you are referring to clipping paths, which are created in Photoshop and saved with EPS and TIFF files.
Unfortunately, Illustrator does not recognize clipping paths in TIFF files. Page layout (DTP) applications, such as InDesign and QuarkXpress, do recognize TIFF (as well as EPS) file clipping paths, but, alas, not Illustrator.
If you receive TIFFs with embedded clipping paths, just open them in Photoshop and resave as EPS -- or, better yet, create the desired background transparency in Photoshop and save as PSD for placing into Illustrator.
If you need to do things to the clipping path itself, such as stroking, you can do it in Photoshop or use Export | Paths to Illustrator. Note that the latter creates an .ai file containing only the path, nothing else. But you can combine that path with the original image within Illustrator, creating, if necessary, your own clipping mask.
If you don't have Photoshop, have your supplier save as EPS (or TIFF or PSD)
and export the paths. That will give you the greatest flexibility within Illustrator.

  • How can I measure selected area of pixels using photoshop elements 12?

how can I measure selected area of pixels using photoshop elements 12?

    Show the 'information' panel F8).
In the middle horizontal section, select 'pixels' on the left drop-down menu.
Use the rectangular marquee tool to select your area: the dimensions in pixels of the rectangle is shown under 'dimensions' on the right.
I think there are other ways to measure a line segment, but you could use the above measure by adjusting the rectangular marquee tools to both extremities of the segment,
    - use the move tool to rotate the rectangle so that the diagonal measuring the segment is horizontal,
    - move the rectangle to the left, and check validate, which creates another rectangle including the first one
    - read the pixel dimension (L:) in the info panel like above.

  • How to calculate average if some of measure values are 0

    Hi
I created a webI report on top of a Bex query, I have a more than 10 different measure in WebI report column on which i need to calculate average.
If I  use the Average function provided with in WebI report it is calculating average for the measures which are having 0  values too, but i need to calculate average on a column only for those values which are not 0
Ex:  Measure Quantity has values in the report like
    100
    100
    0
    100
    100
Average function is calculating as 400/5
but I need 400/4, because one of the value is 0, so i need to avoid that count which is zero and should divide it by 4 but not 5.
One way is to custom create measure for all measures and make a if else condition and divided by that custom measure, but is there any other procedure?

    i hope this can help

  • I need to measure the area in a JPEG

    My JPEG is 600 x 600 dpi.
It includes a ruler and a cross section of a part,  The background is black.  The surface I am concered with border on the black background; it is the "white" outline of the part.  I need to find the "AREA" of this collection of "WHITE" color.Like the shell of a 2D egg.
    How do I do this?
It would be great to configure the SCALE reference for the picture, drag a "SELECTION" box over the area, use a "EYE DROPPER" selection tool to click on the white of the outline, and click on "MEASURE" as in Photoshop.
It didn't work in Photoshop and I'm asking if Illustrator can calculate the area?
    What steps are involved?
Is it aslo possible to measure Max Width and Max Height?
    What Adobe product would work?
    Thank you

    cadsvc,
You may try this way (depending on version), working in points/pixels:
    1) Place a copy of the image in a new document;
    2) Filter/Effect>Colors>Inverse to turn the desired area black;
    3) Click the border of the area with the Live/Auto Trace Tool, and Select the resulting area (with the black arrow);
    4) If the area has undesired holes in it, Object>Compound Path>Release and delete the paths of the former holes;
    5) See the W and H values in the Transform panel/palette;
    6) See the area in the Info panel or use the free Telegraphics Pathearea filter, see below.

Edit: Seemingly, the Telegraphics website no longer shows it, but you can find it under Graffix Path Area here:

  • How can I export an Adobe illustrator CC .AI file to a DWG or DXF file suitable for SolidWorks?

    Hi
    Can anyone help?
How can I export an Adobe illustrator CC .AI file to a DWG or DXF file,  without SolidWorks enlarging the file & converting every curve into hundreds of short little straight lines rather than a single continuous line/s.
I have made sure the file is ungrouped or has any compound paths or colours.
Opening it in Autocad 2010 still converts the DWG file into hundreds of short little straight lines!
The file is needed to laser cut out an aluminium shape using SolidWorks 2008 (Metal soft)?
    Formats they can handle are:
    DWG, DXF, IGES, IGA
There must be a way to export it without re-drawing the whole design in Soildworks again!!??
    Can anyone help?
    INCA

Not really. This is a limitation you will have to live with. Unless you are extremely careful, most paths will be converted to polyline segments by AI and in particular in AI CC this is somehow busted, so it happens more often. You might have much more luck opening a native AI file in DraftSight or a 2D CAD program like TurboCAD and exporting a DWG or 2D IGES/ STEP file from there. The sizing issue is a different matter, but without knowing what units you actualyl used, nobody can advise.
