How to merge aperture 1 library to aperture 3

I have been running aperture 1 successfully on leopard. i upgraded to snow leopard and i couldn't open ap 1. i upgraded to ap 3 and tried to import my 1 library and ap 3 says unsupported library. how do i recover my photos or successfully merge libraries?

Ethan, couple of thoughts,
Have you tried double clicking the .aplibrary file?
How large is the library file and how much free disc space do you have on that drive?
What format is the drive that your library os residing on?

Can anyone tell me how to merge my iPhoto Library into my Photos System Library or how to import photos from iPhoto to Photos?

How many did you trash at one go? iPhoto will baulk and possibly corrupt if you try trash too many at one go. Expereinced users recommend getting rid of them in batches of about 100 or so.
What's your plan for the remaining images in the iPhoto Library (the 2k photos and 4 videos)?

i have never attempted such an operation, so no step-by-step guide !
you will be able to restore the other Mac's library to the iMac. go here and follow the instructions: http://web.me.com/pondini/Time_Machine/17.html. restore whatever you need to a temporary location, i.e. the desktop.
if you only want the media files, just restore the iTunes music folder. when restored, use +add to library+ from the file menu or just drag the folder you restored to the +automatically add to iTunes+ folder inside the iTunes folder.
if you also want playlists, playcounts, and ratings, you should restore the entire iTunes folder.
take a look @ PowerTunes. this app should enable you to merge the two libraries.
    good luck !

  • Merging iPhoto's library with Aperture's

What I want to accomplish: merge my iPhoto library with my Aperture library, creating one Aperture library while removing any duplicates.
What I've done: copied my iPhoto library to an external disc.
What I've tried to do: use "import library" on the Aperture File (while in the current aperture library on my internal disc) menu to import the saved iPhoto library on my external disc.
What happened: iPhoto library is visible but not selectable.
    What went wrong? Thanks.

Got it working--not sure what happened.
Probably your iPhoto library needed upgrading to the latest iPhoto version that is compatible with your recent Aperture version. If your Aperture version is currently Aperture 3.5.1, you need to open any iPhoto library that you want to import at least once in iPhoto 9.5.1.  Otherwise you cannot select it.  See this document:

  • I merged Aperture libraries, Now I have a duplicate library!

I recently bought and 'am starting to work my way through "Aperture 3" Apple Pro Training Series, book.  In the course of attempting to merge the "sample" library with my already established Aperture Library, I now find that I have achieved this, but I also have 2 identical libraries, Projects, Pictures, Folders, everything, that appear when I open Aperture!  Is there a way to 'delete' one of these without doing damage to the other?  Thanks, Vic

I have one library with everything duplicated in it.
Then the merging did not recognize the original image files as duplicates. Apertures notion of duplicate is very limited - only files with everything identical (name, size, format) are considered to be duplicates.
There is no built-in feature to detect and remove duplicates. You will need to do it manually, and frankly, it might be easier to restore the previous version of your library (before you merged) from the backup and to start from there again.
But if you have invested to much additional work already, create a backup before you start deleting.
It is hard for me to give advice on what you can delete and what not, since I cannot know exactly, how you did merge the libraries and what you see as duplicates.
You cand delete projects, if you see a second project that contains similar images. Compare the resolutions of the images and the states of the edits, to be sure to keep the best versions with your recents edits, when you delete the duplicates. Be careful not to mistake images in an albums as duplicates of images in project. The gray icons in the library Inspector can easily be confused.

  • Merging Time Machine Library with Blank Aperture Library

I have a 2008 aluminum uni-body MacBook with 2GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, 4GB 1067 MHz DDR3 memory running Mt Lion, with 367 GB available on the hard drive. For various reasons, I recently completed a clean install of Mt Lion after backing up via Time Machine.
The first thing I re-installed was Aperture, downloaded from the Apple Store.  I didn’t put much else back on the laptop because my first priority was getting the pictures back. I also checked for software updates.
For a week now, I’ve been fighting with Time Machine to get my 133.75 GB library restored. I kept having permissions errors or unable to reinstall errors or, when I tried copying the individual folders (show package contents) I’d get the thumbnails as if they were the actual pictures. Frustrating!
I’ve tried several different methods, techniques, recommendations, attempts to restore, including going into Time Machine and pressing restore. I finally deleted everything that had been placed on my computer related to Aperture, including Aperture and the file in Application Support for Aperture. I re-downloaded Aperture, ran the software updates, opened using the Option command, switched to the Time Machine library, and then restored the permissions.
After a certain amount of nail-biting agony, I had the first correct view of my library in more than a week!
Then, I began to stumble again because I couldn’t figure out or remember how to restore this now agreeable library to my fresh installation of Aperture. So, I created an empty library in Aperture, then merged the corrected Time Machine library using the Import Library function.
19 hours later, Activity Monitor shows that Aperture still has activity, but the monitor bar is stopped at probably 9/10 of the way and has been like that for 13 hours. The library on my hard drive has grown from nothing to 87.75 GB.
Is this normal to have hours and hours for a large library to merge?
Should I give up and Force Quit (even though I’ve read that causes damage to the library), and then try to restore via Time Machine?
If this merge library action actually works, will my backup be ruined? Or, better said, if this merge library doesn’t work, will my backup be ruined? I have another one I could use, but it’s a bit older.

    Alison in Sunny Florida

  • How to consolidate aperture 3 libraries

I have 3-5 separate Aperture 3 small libraries. I would like to get them all consolidated into one library. How do I do it?
    Thanks
    Bob

Do you have plenty of free disk space, Bob?
Select a drive with enough free space to hold a merged library plus plenty of working space. Aperture will blow up the library considerably while merging libraries. Back up all your libraries before proceeding, so you can revert to the original versions.
Then repair all libraries that you want to merge into one library by running the Aperture Library First Aid Tools on each of the libraries; see: Repairing and Rebuilding Your Aperture Library: Aperture 3 User Manual
Then select one of your libraries - preferably the largest library - and open it in Aperture. To merge another library into this libraryuse the command "File > Import > Library" and select one of your other libraries to be imported.  If your libraries contain duplicate images, Aperture will ask you, if you want to merge the libraries and only keep one of the images, or if the duplicates should be added.
Proceed to import your other libraries in the same way.
Check the merged library carefully, before deleting the original libraries. It has been reported, that occasionally images have been missing in the merged libraries, e.g.images imported from Photo Stream, so check the numbers of the images in the separate libraries and the combined library.

  • Unsupported image format after merging aperture libraries

I've experienced a large number of files with 'unsupported image format' after merging aperture libraries from separate external hard drives.  I did not have this problem in either library prior to merging them.  Can anyone advise how to rectify this issue?  Thanks

Try running  library repair on the merged library and see if that helps.
To run the repair open Aperture while holding the option and command keys down. Select Repair from the menu.
Post back if you still have the problem.

how to install Aperture on Mac OS 10.6.8?

But the current AppStore version needs MacOS 10.7.5 or 10.8.2; there is no way to install it on Snow Leopard. The Trial version can be installed, but you need to purchase a serial number, and that you will find only with the retail version in the box.

  • How to install Aperture 2 over Academic 5.1

I have academic Aperture 1.5.6 installed on my 17" PB. I have purchased the full Aperture 2 since there is no academic upgrade. How do install Aperture 2 over Aperture 1.5.6. (There are no instructions in the material that came with Aperture 2.)
    Thank you,

Aperture is pretty much self contained. Just install it (or, if you prefer, delete Aperture 1.5 from your /Applications folder and then install Aperture 2).

If you purchased Aperture from the Mac App Store, just RE-DOWNLOAD it, from the Mac App Store. The re-download should be FREE.

Do you still have the Aperture 2 and Aperture 3 registration codes? Then you can download the Trial installer and use that to install Aperture on your new Macbook.
You can download the Aperture 3 trial installer to reinstall Aperture from this webpage - there is a link to the trial and instructions on how to reinstall - don't let the title of this page distract you :

The Aperture 3 serial number will be available in the about panel, when you are running Aperture on your old mac (from the main menu bar: Aperture > About Aperture).

  • How can an Aperture slide show be burned to a DVD?

I see Aperture can be exported to Facebook and Twitter or MobleMe for use by other "freinds" on their computers.  How can a Aperture produced Slideshow be provided to those that only can see the show on a tv set with a DVD player?  I want to use the editing feathers in Aperture and not be limited  to those available in the IDVD application.
    Message was edited by: vaunfromsyracuse

You can't do that with Aperture.
What you can do is export your Slideshow as a Quicktime movie. You need a special application to create a DVD that can play in a DVD player. If you don't want to use iDVD use Toast or another such app.
