When I select the Apple Symbols font from the list accessed from under Format/"Show fonts"/collection-all fonts/Apple Symbol, and then continue typing, I get normal letters, if in a slightly different font.
How can I type using the Apple Symbol font? I want to use that font to include keyboard and cursor selections of actual screen symbols to help write easily understood explicit computer lesson emails to my 92 year-old mom from a few hundred miles away.

Garbled mails after importing from Outlook 2011 to Apple mail

I want to migrate from Outlook 2011 to Apple mail. I found 2 ways to do this:
Copy mail folder by mail folder to a Finder folder as .mbox files, and then importing them into Apple mail
creating an imap account on Outlook, synchronizing mails with the imap server, and then connecting from Apple mail to the same server, thereby re-importing mails to Apple mail
With both methods I have the same problem: some mails arrive completely garbled, below is an example. It seems that mostly HTML mails and mails with attachments are affected, but there are also some ordinary text mails which look weird. The strange thing is: they all look absolutely perfect in Outlook 2011!
I have migrated my mail file from every computer I had since about 12 years, first some PCs, and about 1.5 years ago to a Mac. My suspicion is that mails dating back to the "pre-Mac era" are affected, because the latest ones are all perfect. Any ideas?

But, you are going to have to further explain what you mean by "sync local email"...there are several possible interpretations of those words, and we'd want to make sure we address exactly what you desire. For instance...new emails or a full mailbox sync? Is the mailbox truly local, or is it technically hosted at some email provider (with Outlook being merely the client access mechanism for the PC)? Please provide details of precisely what you are seeking so that we can address it correctly.

Can't sync multiple emails from Outlook 2007 into Iphone

It only listed the main (usually work) email, and does not transfer the home and other emails from Outlook. I can manually enter a second email and label it on the iphone, but that is not helpful as I have hundreds of business/friends with multiple emails in my Outlook... it does get home and work addresses...

The workaround is to use Cached Exchange Mode or "Shift + Delete", as the user doesn't want to delete the message permanently, using Cached Exchange Mode is preferred.
Based on my research, this issue is more Exchange 2010 related, and you mentioned the user also got the error from Outlook Web Access. This issue occurs after Exchange 2010 Service Pack 2 RU6 or Exchange 2010 Service Pack 3 is installed.
To resolve this issue, install the following update rollup:

Import email archives from Outlook .pst to Apple Mail

I'm (finally) switching everything over from Windows to Mac, and want to know the easiest way to transfer years of email archives (sent and saved) from an Outlook .pst file into Apple Mail. I'm not using Entourage, but I have it, if that's the best conduit, but in the end, I want to use Apple Mail.

O2M formally known as Outllook2Mac or I believe there is an add-on for Entourage from Microsoft that provides for importing Outlook .pst files.
After importing the .pst files into Entourage, you can use Mail's Import Mailboxes feature selecting Entourage as the email client to import mailboxes/messages from.

Can't import emails from outlook express into mail

Just bought a macbook, I'm new into MAC, I'm a MAC ROOKIE. I'm trying to import my email from my microsoft outlook express to my MAC MAIL, I followed the instructions to import from outlook but when I locate the outlook files for my emails (they have extension .dbx but it won't let me select the files. Besides in the outlook folder there are dozens of files (1 per email subfolder). What am I doing wrong that I can't import the emails, nor the address book?

Pay attention to the information Mail displays during the import process. It could be that it wants you to select the folder that contains the files to be imported, rather than the files themselves.
EDITED: Now that I've read your post again, I don't think you're going to be able to do this on your MacBook, as importing from Outlook Express requires that application to be running in the "Classic" environment, which isn't available for Intel-based Macs.
Disclaimer: I know next to nothing about how importing from Outlook Express is supposed to work, so take what I say with a grain of salt.

I would like to create a screen using jdeveloper/adf 11g where the user can fill in some information and drag and drop an email from a mail client e.g. outlook or thunderbird to the screen and have the information provided by the user and the email subject line, message and addressee list (including any attachments) stored in the database.
I can find lots of information about sending emails from a jsp page but have no idea how to "receive" one.
Does anyone have any thoughts on how to do it please?
I think I could work out how to do it if the email was being processed by a job running on the database or on a mail server using javamail but I really wanted to do it via a screen as it needs some user input to classify the email and provide some info for storage.

Importing eMail from Outlook Express into OS X Tiger mail

Am in the process of installing OS X Tiger on a G4 eMac for my wife, who is currently using Outlook Express on an older G3 iMac running OS 9.2.
I would like to be able to import her existing Mail Boxes from OE on the old iMac to Mail on the eMac.
Can anyone indicate which files must be transferred from the iMac to the eMac in order for me to import them into Mail ?
