How to migrate Library/DB from Windows to Mac

I am moving my photography business from windows to Mac (Vista convinced me). I already figured out how to get from adobe the Lightroom and CS3 licenses transferred, but I wonder how to deal with my pics? I have all my pics in a network hard drive and the library on my laptop with a backup on the network drive. My new configuration would be one iMac for doing all the work and one Mac Book for working on the road and sharing wit customers.
How to migrate my DB and photo collection?
How to set things up so I can use lightroom in both: My Macbook and the iMac? I ran a quick search and found many responses but I could not quite understand what needs to be done or confirm whether this scenario of two machines accessing same DB is supported for a NAS drive.
Thanks!

Thanks Don, I am a writer and a photographer and probably not as savvy as you with technology or forums. I ran searches before posting my question, but nothing came back when using the keywords windows to mac, migrate DB, etc. So obviously I cannot even think about the right terms. Any link you can provide me with? So far after reading many posts around looks like LR will not work for my business because it does not support multiple PCs, but at least while I find another software solution, I want to be able to use my Macs with lightroom :-)

  • ITunes library xml from windows to mac using external drive.

    Hi there!
I'm a newbie on mac computers.. I've recently purchase a macbook pro retina.
So, I used to use iTunes in windows XP. My old computer crashed and I can't re-open it and save files...
Now, the only file I have from my windows library is an "library.xml" file.
The mp3 files that I had in previous iTunes playlists are in my external I: Drive. (not in Itunes folder).
I was searching in apple communities to see how I can transfer playlists in my new iTunes on mac.
But I can't find a solution to my problem... and unfortunately I don't know if there is...
I've try to set the iTunes media folder location my external hard drive, from Preferences-->Advanced-->iTunes media folder location.
Then I go to file-->library--> import playlist and I open the "library.xml".
The result is that I have all my playlists in tact, like it was in my previous iTunes.... But THERE IS NOT ANY FILE ON THEM!!!
So, I have only the playlists... Could you help me to set my I: drive as default path of itunes library, to get my playlists WITH the mp3s?
    PLEASE HELP!
    Thank you in advance.

Should I change the Preferences-->Advanced-->iTunes media folder location back to default folder?
That should be set to wherever you want iTunes to store media in the future (though it sounds like you are planning on keeping this unchecked anyway).  It has no effect on where iTunes looks for existing files.  That is already determined when you first add the file to iTunes or through later consolidating.
In theory you should be able to start iTunes with a blank library, use the import function to add that .xml file and it should still point to the files on the external.  If that is not working then I guess it is possible all those %20 space designations may be causing problems.  It's strange you are seeing those coded that way but  it is likely some carry-over from Windows.  The purpose of adding a test file to the external, then adding it to iTunes, then looking at the .xml is to see how Mac iTunes lists the path for a file on the external added when using the Mac so you can use that as a model for changing other paths if necessary.
Holding down the option key while starting iTunes (make sure you are using the correct key) or immediately after starting it should invoke a screen asking if you want to make a new library.  If this is not working for you then I have no idea why because it works for hundreds of other people I have told to do this.

  • Migrating Palm Desktop from Windows to MAC

I have just ordered a MAC and will receive it within the next few days.
I need to know how to transfer my present data to the MAC. I hotsync with the Palm Desktop as that allows me to password-protect files, which Outlook doesn't. What are the steps involved in preparing and performing the first hotsync on MAC?? Also, I use "Documents to Go", will this application just tra sfer to the MAC? Thanks for any help.

Hi Bruno! Are you Portuguese or Brazilian?
Do you have an iPod, which you could use as a transfer way? If not I would recommend you to use the "Back up to disc" feature. Then just insert your DVD's in your new MacBook and import your library.
If you want to use your iPod, then read this:
First sync your content to the iPod.
If you have purchased songs from the iTunes Music Store, then those are pretty easy to transfer to your computer. You'll just need to follow [this instructions|http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=305465].
All your other songs (for example, those ripped from your CD's), you'll need to use any 3rd party program to transfer them to your iTunes library!
Use one of this programs (all of them will preserve your metadata):

  • How to migrate thunderbird email from pc to mac version

I have been unsuccessful in locating proper information on how to migrate a windows version of TB to the MAC version. Seems to be no clear cut way to do that.
    Any suggestions?

Install TB on the Mac, but don't bother installing any accounts. Close TB. Overwrite its new empty profile with one copied from your Windows installation.
Speaking as someone who has successfully moved TB profiles between Windows and Linux, I can warn you that there may be some Windows-specific pathnames in your profile that will need to be fixed. Some add-ons are poorly behaved in that they store absolute pathnames, which do not work when transferred from one computer to another of the same kind, let alone when transferred between operating systems. If your profile has been tweaked to store its data on a separate drive, for instance, you'll need to adjust the path stored in ''profiles.ini''. either by direct hand-editing, or by use of the profile manager.

  • Migrating Lightroom 4 from Windows to Mac?

I just bought a new MacBook Pro.
My photos are on an external hard drive, NTFS formatted.
Mac can read NTFS just fine.
How can I migrate my catalog to Mac? Is it even possible?
e.g. I'm concerned about Lightroom importing the catalog but not "finding" any of thoe photos, and then having to point it at each one manually. I have, of course, thousands.
    Thanks!

  • Migration iTunes Music from Windows to Mac

Hello, I currently have a PC on Windows Xp, I usually use iTunes for Windows to manage and buy my music for my iPod and iPhone.
I would like to buy a Mac mini to replace my Windows XP computer.
I currently stored my music managed by iTunes for Windows on a Buffalo Raid NAS and that work very well.
    My questions are :
I would like to know if I will able to use my music from the Mac Mini ?
Is there any migration process to be able to use my personal music and my music bought on iTunes store on the Mac Mini ?
I will lose all my personnal data on my iPhone, if I connect my iPhone to iTunes for Mac on the Mac Mini,
Is there any migration process to be able to use my Apps bought on iTunes store on the Mac Mini with iPhone ?
On my Windows Xp computer, we have 2 windows user accounts (one for me and one for my wife to be able to our own contacts each other on our iPhones), so we have one iTunes library for each account and we are using the same iTunes Store Account for the 2 iTunes Library, will we be able to do the same on Mac Mini and iTunes for Mac ?
    Thanks for your help.

No, but encourage it.  Hold down the option/alt key while starting iTunes and guide it to the library.itl file in the iTunes folder.

  • Migrate a catalog from Windows to Mac with Lightroom 3?

    Hi there.
So here's what I've got:  Photoshop Elements 7 for Windows and Lightroom 1.4 installed on the same PC.  I am in the process of migrating to Mac.  If I upgrade from Lightroom 1.4 to 3, which as I understand is a cross-platform license, will I be able to move my catalog with me?
I am a bit of a Mac newbie, so I'm not sure if there is equal functionality between the Mac and Windows versions of Lightroom.  Clearly there is a big functionality gap the on the PSE side (no Organizer on PSE for Mac).
    Any thoughts?
    Thanks in advance!

They're pretty much functionally the same, but no DVD burning on 64 bit Win.
PSE Mac has a version of Bridge rather than Organiser. I'd do the catalog import on Win first, before moving it all over to Mac, as in import your PSE catalog in Lightroom. (It's not foolproof, I believe stuff gets lost-there's not full compatibility).
PSE is not cross platform, so you'll need to contact Adobe to make the switch.

OK.  You'll need to Contact Customer Care

  • How to convert adobe sw from Windows to MAC

in 2010 I purchased Indesign CS4 V 6.0, Bridge CS4 V.6.0 and later PSE V.9.0 on to a windows platform. Now I need to convert these to a MAC platform?
    Best regards
    Morten

To summarize, Adobe only allows this for current versions so you have two things going against you.
    1. You have an old version.
    2. There is no upgrade pricing
Your choices are to buy a full CS6 license or move to Creative Cloud. Creative Cloud has the benefit of being crossplatform and your CS4 license qualifies you for intro pricing of $29.99/month for the first year.

  • How do you change the format from Windows to Mac

Does anyone know how to change the format from Windows to Mac? When I first bought my iPod I had windows but now would like to change this. Also is anyone aware why some tracks pause for 2 seconds and then carries on.

Restore the iPod in iTunes for Mac. Restoring will erase and reformat the iPod's hard drive, reload the software with the Mac version and put it back to default settings. Once the restore is complete follow the on screen instructions to name the iPod and automatically sync your songs and videos onto the fresh installation. Press Done and the iPod will appear in iTunes and start to sync. If you want to sync using selected playlists uncheck the box beside the sync automatically instruction and press Done, it will default to manual mode and you can choose whatever setting you like: Restoring iPod to factory settings with iTunes

  • How to switch CC from Windows to Mac

I have Creative Cloud on my Windows desktop and laptop. I am considering moving to a new Macbook Pro. How do I switch CC from Windows to Mac?
    Thanks,
    Mike

I appreciate the advice, but I've discovered that my OS has to be updated first (was 10.6.8) and am in the process of upgrading to Yosemite. Then I will try to login to Creative Cloud on the Mac and from there navigate as you describe. I hope to report this worked!

  • Migrating Applications from Windows to Mac with new iPhone

My original first gen iPhone died a horrible death a few months ago. I had always synced it to my Windows laptop. I just recently acquired a new iPhone and want to sync it instead to my iMac. However, I have a dozen or so iPhone applications that I still want and I cannot figure out how to migrate the applications that are recognized by iTunes on my Windows machine and transfer them to my iMac. I even attempted to download an application I already purchased from my iMac, and I was charged the fee for the iPhone application instead of it just recognizing i had previously purchased the application.
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.
