How to migrate lion to other mac - free

I have downloaded lion to my imac and want to download to my macbook. I understand the migration is free.

Just go to the Mac App Store from your MacBook, sign in with the same Apple ID you used on your iMac and select Purchases at the top of the window.  Lion will be there; you can download and install for free by clicking on the Install button.

Incorrect link to "OS X: How to migrate data from another Mac using Mountain Lion and earlier". Should be http://support.apple.com/kb/HT6025

I think the OP is saying OS X: How to migrate data from another Mac using Mountain Lion and earlier (which should be a link to HT4889) just links back to OS X: How to migrate data from another Mac using Mavericks (HT5872).
It does indeed do that, & HT4889 seems to be MIA.

  • Lion Migration Assistant - Your other Mac stopped responding

    iMac version 10.7
    MBP version 10.7 clean install
I'm trying to migrate everything from the imac to the mbp.  I've done this before in snowleopard.
I'm getting hung up just after the code is shown on both screens.  the imac says "your other mac is ready" and the mbp says "your other mac stopped responding".
they are connected with the same ethernet i've used before.
the mbp can't find the imac.

    I have the same problem,
I want to migrate from a Lion computer to another Lion computer,
and the source computer says "Your other Mac is ready.", and the destination computer says "Your other Mac stopped responding.".
I disabled the screen sharing in my source computer.
Now I don't have any shared things in both computers.
However, I still have the same problem.
    Any idea?
    Regards,
    David

  • Duplicate Mountain Lion on others Mac from the one issuded of update programme

I baught a MBair that I have update to Mountain Lion from the update programm. Is it possible to duplicate it on my others Mac without paying a new licence?
    Thanks for your response.
    jldpolux

The OS X Mountain Lion software content code must be used solely with the products that qualify for this offer.
    http://www.apple.com/osx/uptodate/
The update program is to provide a "free" update for a machine that was purchased a short period before Mountain Lion was introduced (or machines sold right at that time that still had Lion installed).  The purpose is to basically let you get the most current version of the OS on your newly purchased system.  It's not appropriate to use it on other systems as it is essentially considered the shipping version.  Other people have to pay to upgrade their machines and it's no different in your case.  If, after making the purchase, you had other machines to upgrade, you could do that for free.

  • New Macmini - Lion on other macs?

Hi everyone, I just bought a brand new mac mini from Apple which has Lion pre-installed. I was wondering is there a way I can install Lion on my other Macs?(The MacMini didn't come with any discs). Maybe i can download the OS from the app store.
    Thanks
    lister
sorry just noticed I posted this in the imac forum, please move if need be..

I don't know how that works if you bought a new machine with Lion on it?
The Lion license agreements can be found at http://www.apple.com/legal/sla/.
Section 2 of the licenses describes permitted use. All say about the same thing: if you buy Lion via the app store or on the USB thumb drive, you can install it on every Mac you own for personal, non-commercial use, provided each of those Macs have their own licensed copy of Snow Leopard. But the preinstalled copy that comes with new Macs is licensed for use with that Mac only.
That's a pretty good deal, especially for the downloaded version, since there is no limit on the number of Macs you can use it with, subject to the terms.

  • How to load lion on multiple macs?

I've downloaded OS X Lion on my ,macbook, have two other macs at home I want to put it on - how is the easiest way to do this?  Thanks

Go to the Mac App store on each of the other computers (You'll need for each of them to be running 10.6.8 to do this) and Sign in using the same account that you used to purchase Lion with on your first machine. Then click on the "Purchased" button at the top of the App store. It should show Lion among your purchases. The button to the right of Lion should say "INSTALL". Click it and the download and install process should begin.
That's pretty much it. Best of luck.

  • Can I use Lion on other Macs at home

When I dowload Lion can I share with my other computers with same licence or have to download for each one ? How to go about it ?
Also I  would require to upgrade to more memory, how to see max amount of memory my can have I read that is better to have more than 2 GB and where is best place to buy in Italy or Europe to get a good price or Apple store is the best ?   Is it really necessary to upgrade to Lion ?  Thanks

I have the same situation.  I own five Macs and wanted to install Lion on all.  I download Lion to one of them and since there isn't a disk anymore I wanted to copy and move the downloaded file to my iDisk so that I could download the install files to whichever Mac i was installing it on at the time.  Since the install file is no longer a .dmg file it can't be moved to the iDisk FYI.
As far as installing it on the other Macs, I called and talked to support and the first person wanted me to install Lion on an external drive and make it a bootable copy.  Then plug the external into each computer, boot it so that it would boot from the external and install Lion that way.  Whatever!  There has to be an easier method.  that guy must have been drunk. The second time i called I got a much better answer.  Simply login to Apple using your Apple ID and go to the area where you purchased Lion.  Do this on every computer that you want to install Lion on.  Click on the Purchased tab and there should be an INSTALL button that you can click to download the install files to that computer.  According to Apple, each license is good for installs on five different computers.

  • Lion and others Mac 10.6, I cannot see Screen Sharing on the network

    Hello all,
Since I've install Lion on the Mac Mini I cannot acces (and see) on the network in Screen Sharing. I can access all other Mac on 10.5.8 and 10.6.x easily. In the prefs all is exactly like before I upgrade this OS...
Is someone can give me an issue.
Thank and have a great day!
    Paul Dionne

I'm not sure what you are and are not seeing from which computers on the network.
Note that whatever your prefererences were before has no bearing on fixing your problem.
Which computers can you see, and from which computers.
What type of file sharing do you have enabled on the 10.5.8 and 10.6.x computers, AFP or SMB?

  • How to install Lion on older Mac Pro

I had a Macbook Pro that I installed Lion onto. The Macbook pro overheated and is now dead. I'd like to install Lion on my older Mac Pro (can't install Maverick on this computer) and when I go to the app store it says Lion isn't available in the U.S. Anyway to get it onto this computer? If not, I have no way of syncing this Mac.

  • Installing Lion on Other Mac

    Hi all,
I have just recently purchased a Macbook Pro with Lion pre-installed.
Before this notebook, I have a Macbook running snow leopard. Now my question is, am I entitled to upgrade my old Macbook to Lion for free (without repurchasing Lion from App Store)?
    Regards,
    Yusri

No.  You only get additional free copies of Lion from the App Store if you first purchased a copy from the App Store.  Your MacBook Pro doesn't qualify because Lion came pre-installed.
    Hope this helps

  • How to Migrate Mail from One Mac Computer (MBP) to another Mac Computer (MBA)

I just bought a Mac Book Air (OS X Mavericks, Mac Mail) after a couple of years using a Mac Book Pro (OS X Mavericks, Mac Mail) and need to migrate my mail from MBP to MBA. Is there any steps to follow

MVP - if you still need the advice, or if any others come across this thread hoping it will help.
The simplest way is now that you have your mail files copied from the old Mac (as per:
    Grant Lenahan
Simply move over your users/you/library/mail folder ( it has all the mail files).
Now launch Mail on the new Mac and go to File > Import Mailboxes
Select the mail boxes you want to import and Bob's your mother's brother!
    Works a treat!

  • Install mountain lion on other mac

    hello,
I buyed a macbook pro retina with mountain lion. So I want to update my imac with it. I can't download the osx from the app store or anything else to get an installdata.
You're welcome to post some help!!
    thanks

You can't do that. Your license is for the retina.
For the iMac you'll need to purchase Mountain Lion.
    iMac (Mid 2007 or newer)
    OS X v10.6.8 or later
    2GB of memory
    8GB of available space
Some features require an Apple ID; terms apply.
Some features require a compatible Internet service provider; fees may apply.

  • HT1349 How do I transfer programs between macs without having the serial number?

I previously ordered a 2010 macbook pro and had both microsoft office and aperture pre-installed.  I now have a new macbook air and am trying to transfer the two programs over.  I do not have the original packaging since they came pre-installed so I am wondering how I can install them on the new mac without the serial number?

    Hey kdoy071,
Thanks for the question. Moving your information with Migration Assistant should do the trick:
OS X: How to migrate data from another Mac using Mountain Lion and earlier
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4889
If you have OS X Mavericks, see this article:
OS X: How to migrate data from another Mac using Mavericks

Note that if your previous software is not compatible with the new system or OS, it may not function properly.
    Thanks,

  • I bought a macbook pro with Mountain Lion installed.  Can I install a copy of mountain lion on my other mac for free?

I bought a Macbook pro with Mountain Lion. Can I install Mountain Lion on my other mac for free? How do I do that? Thanks!

On the bright side, it's only $20.
And I would certainly like to have the ownership (and even a copy of the installer on my archive drive), "just in case."
Here are some questions -- which I cannot test because it's not my situation:
Has anyone acquired a pre-owned Mac with Mountain Lion installed but which shipped with an earlier OS version? For those in that circumstance:
Have you been able to apply Mountain Lion update(s)?
How about reinstall ML with Recovery HD?
After either updating or reinstalling, does ML appear in Purchases in App Store?
    Just curious.

  • I bought a Mountain Lion upgrade for $20 off the Apple site. I have four other Macs all under the same ID. How can I share the new OS with other computers. Or can I?

I bought a Mountain Lion upgrade for $20 off the Apple site. I have four other Macs all under the same ID. How can I share the new OS with other computers. Or can I?

You can share it with other Macs under your control (not your neighbor's).  You just need to be logged in under the buying AppleID for updates or to download again.
Use this thread to find a method of copying the ML download into a USB drive to make other installations easier: https://discussions.apple.com/message/16639520#16639520
